Well arguably it's not just North America; I haven't anything from anyone anywhere lol![]()
-
-
prepseb its almost impossible for anyone to provide you with an actual date, lets just trust the user who posted that it would be coming out july xD
-
Oh ok I see, shempmalone I hope you are right because you will be in real trouble
-
If it's July I suppose that it'll still use the Puma platform? Or is Tigris supposed to be out by then?
-
I asked my retailer, but got nothing back. They're usually pretty good about sharing info, so that probably means Asus won't tell them anything.
-
so the stated July release date is still only from one retailer. Bummer.
-
More waiting game >.> That's all there is to it lol
-
They might be imported units and not official US/CANADA models?
No news is really starting to get irritating! With the G51 being released soon it's starting to look better and better everyday.
Man, I hope it's not only one reseller selling these laptops, everyone of us will be tripping over each other to grab one
-
If Tigris is going to be released this summer I'd rather wait anyway.
My assumption is Asus didn't want to release the K51AB at the same time as their G51. Also, the 40nm process problems don't help either. -
Has anyone been able to get their hands on a K40-IN? I'm eager to read some reviews, but this laptop seems to have slipped under the radar entirely!
I'm also hoping the graphics card on it (Geforce 102M) is strong enough to handle the likes of TF2... I'd like to get some light gaming in this summer while I'm waiting for university time to roll around.
-
The Geforce 102M isn't going to handle much of anything to be honest. If you have any desire to game with your laptop this is not the card to get. Its faster than the Intel 4500M but thats not saying much. The 102M is really designed to accelerate video.
-
The 102M is just a glorified 9400M and with that card don't expect to much.
-
Well the 9400M is adequate for the occasional game as long as that game isn't demanding. If you crank everything down you can still play games and it gives a hell of a better battery life than most GPUs.
-
Yeah!
But who really wants to game with low res and the eye candy turned off.
That's what so exciting about the K51AB it would potentially play every game out there relatively easily. -
true, the k series is only really defined by the k51ab, so sad.
-
Well depends. Back in the day all I played was WC3 and the Sims 2 on my laptop. a G105M can definitely handle those 2(as my old GMA950 could lol
). Anything old can be played more or less maxed and newer ones aren't so bad.
And yes I concur, the K51 is the main appeal of this line lol
I want that "good performance and good battery life' combo
-
u think the sims 3 would run relatively well on a 105m?
-
If you cranked down some stuff I'm sure it would. My GMA950 was way below what was asked(well ok, not way below, but they asked for dedicated VRAM) for the Sims 2 yet I maxed it
Arguably the graphics haven't exponentially powered from the Sims 2 to the Sims 3. -
The Nvidia 105m is almost twice as fast as the 102m which the poster asked about.
-
how much faster would you expect a gt130 to be then dalingrin
-
A GT130M is akin to a 9600M GT so it's far far faster lol
Like more than twice >.>
btw isn't there a K model with a G105M anyways? -
yes there is. its not really anything to mention though
-
A lot faster. GT130M is 32 shaders and a 600mhz core vs 16 shaders and 450mhz core in the G102M. Not to mention many GT130M's come with GDDR3 vs DDR2 in G102M.
-
interesting, too bad the 4670 in the EX625 is so competitive with pricing against asus's gt130m offerings.
-
I think the 4670 is faster in a lot of situations too. Interestingly, ATI's 4670 doesn't look that impressive in 3dmark 06 but the real world benchmarks I've seen put it closer to Nvidia's 9800M GS than I would expect.
-
Which is odd since ATI is normally the GPU which does better at benchmarks, but worse at real life gaming performance. Well props to ATI for sealing that level of the market ^_^ Nvidia had too high a strong pint up until last year anyways >.>
IIRC, an HD4670 can perform close to an Nvidia 9700M GTS. And to think you can get a laptop with that GPU for like 700$USD >.> -
Wow.... umm i never knew that lol, speechless. Maybe the EX625 will be my laptop to be when CAD dollar hits 1-1 with US.
so in the range of a 9700m gts / 9800m gs must be amazing then. I was thinking that the video card was only good up until it dealt with crysis and gta 4 XD. Maybe it can hold its ground at lower rez. -
Check out reviews of laptops based on the Compal KHLB2. It has an 4650 which is the same but 50mhz slower and its gots some nice benchmark results.
Here's an example, albeit in German:
http://www.notebookcheck.com/Test-mySN-MG6-Notebook-Compal-HLB2.16314.0.html
Check the crysis benchmarks at the bottom of that page.
Another example...and in German:
http://www.notebookjournal.de/tests/deviltech-fire-9060-881/2
As you can see in those benchmarks not as fast as 9800m GS but really not bad at all. I wish they ran their benchmarks with less Anti-Aliasing as the 4650/4670 really aren't built for it (128bit memory bus) -
It holds its ground at lower resolutions yes. At high resolutions the smaller bus size becomes more apparent as a bottleneck(since more data needs to be transferred faster).
-
Agreed. "Luckily" the new round of laptops are coming with lower resolution screens
-
Where is the k51AB? ahhahahah back to the topic...
-
The 9400M G can run TF2 so the G 102M should be able to.
-
I would be really iffy running TF2 on a 9400m, even though the requirements aren't steep, i would hate to be playing at 1024x768.
-
I've ran it on my 9400M G at 1280x800. It ran great on my 9500M GE.
-
Bare in mind TF2 is running on a slightly enhanced 5 year old game engine. Its performance is not indicative of more modern and future engines. TF2 doesn't stress the shaders much, however many newer games do which will cripple the 9400M today and in the future.
As such, I would hesitate to recommend it even for "light gaming" since you can find laptops with much better video cards for the same price. -
Thank god im not purchasing a lappy with the g105m or 102m then XD. 17 days until july comes....
-
And I definitely agree with you. That doesn't mean it can't run TF2 though XD. I would never recommend integrated graphics for anyone planning on doing many graphically intensive tasks.
-
Bah we've gone from expecting the HD4860 to talking about the G102M/G105M lol
Aim high people!
Ona side note, where will you be purchasing the K51 assuming it comes out soon: the cheapest place possible or do you hvae a preferred vendor? -
pcvonline, i know kevin who's the son of the manager so i go to get all my computer parts for him. He's a good guy, was willing to drive 2 hours to get me a comp part one time but i decided against it. It's also good that they are up to date and usually get the newest laptops first. So i will probably be either getting the K series or the G51 depending on scenario. The Sager will occur in the event that i can receive neither of the above laptops.
-
Any place that sells them!
I really do hope that every reseller has them -
Lowest price possible; there's no point in demoting competitive pricing.
-
Well lots of places do price match and sometimes you have a preference for one place or another(either for customer service, fast delivery or whatnot).
For example, NCIX might have higher prices but they price match other places AND I only have to pay 5% GST tax rather than the full provincial tax if I buy from a store which does things "by the book"
-
Hey guys I found this on Asus Support:
http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?model=K51AB&SLanguage=en-us
BIOS 203
First Release 2009/06/04 update
Look like the k51AB is coming... -
I'm getting giddy now!
Looks like it has an Elantech touchpad. Anyone know if you can get multitouch working on it like a Synaptics touchpad?
Edit: Really great find btw, Prepseb. -
Yay! Hope is never lost if we have faith
Sometimes I felt like guessing the presence of the K51ab was worse than proving God existed >_>
We have something to work on now lol
-
nice stuff prepseb, i found that a while back myself. We still gotta play the waiting game though.
-
Good things come to those who wait(or can wait in this context lol
)
I'm in no hurry anyways as I've said lol. Besides, it's nice to have updates on new technology
. Nvidia is bringing out their 40nm GPUs as well so it'd be nice to see how the HD4860 from ATI compares to those.
-
it is soooo long. I need more patience. I hope this one is in the good price range for me. I dont wanna wait for nothing...
-
i think it will be 10% faster than the ati hd4850 so it will the same thing as the gtx280...
idk man thats what think it would be -
I hope we get some good CPU's to handle the GPU well
