I emailed gentechpc, and they told me that the K51AB and K70AB aren't coming because Asus is focusing on "Selling Intel based notebooks" in the US.
Sounds like Intel using its lobbying power.
-
arent coming?? -
i will be EXTREMELY disappointed if it "doesn't come"
-
there is stil hope for AB series, Asus has not announced the High end intel/Nvidia versions of K50IO and K70IO as well as AB series. -
whats the lobbying power exactly anyways.
-
Lobbying is when you use money / other methods to influence a person/company/politician etc's position, such as selling AMD products.
Intel has already been found guilty in other countries. -
-

I somehow believe the Gentechpc guy, he sounded like he knew what he was talking about.

they are very reliable so i am bit nervous. i hope he is wrong though!

I confirmed from a computer dealer of mine in canada/ontario/toronto that the k51ab should be shipping out at the end of this month along with the rest of the k series models.
Source: PCVOnline.com -

4. Does pcvonline.com handle international or U.S. orders?
Unfortunately, we are unable to process orders outside of Canada.
Sorry to burst your bubble bro. But since it is coming out at the end of the month for PCVOnline, i expect to see the k series in the U.S. at a similar time from your local retailer.
I will keep you guys updated though as i receive notices from the son of the manager that owns the place. -
Looks like a beast?
What are we talking about here?
1200USD? or more?
Should I wait for this baby or go for the X5? -
wait man
the hd4860 it is better than the x5
and if the asus K-AB does not arrive here( i hope that does not happen)
then u get the X5 or even the X1 or X6 because u know for sure that the have here -
But what is the price difference?
The wait I don`t mind.
And I would really need to read a couple review because this really has NO FRILLS,
and lets be honest if preformance isn`t superduperamazingasskickin`and it`s $1000USD or more
I presonally would go for the X5. -
The performance will be pretty amazing considering the battery life is probably going to be better than previous models.
Now all we need is the 45nm die shrink to hit the AMD Mobile processors. -
Unfortunately I believe the same thing is happening here in Japan.. The only AMD models I have ever seen out here are the really old ones, based on not the Turion ZM or RM processors but even older models.
Nor have I seen any of the new AMD 4xxx series or even the higher end AMD 3xxx series. -
I haven't been notified of the price for the k51ab specifically yet Xcon as the cost is influenced by the U.S. currency as well. However with things currently looking as they are, i would assume that the cost of the k51ab will be close to around 1300-1400 Canadian. So lets take the specs of the asus f50sv-a1 and compare it to the specs of the k51ab at pcvonline.com
ZM-84 vs P8600
4860 vs gt120m
320gb 7200rpm vs 320gb 7200rpm
4gb ddr2 ram vs 4gb ddr2 ram
15" vs 16"
1366x768 res vs 1366x768 res
1.3MP Webcam vs 1.3MP Webcam
Now the f50sv-a1 goes for 1229.95 at pcvonline. Consequently i assume that the p8600&Mobo combo costs more than a zm-84&Mobo combo. next we take into account that the gt120m is significantly cheaper than the 4860. All specs aside, they are about the same so i come to the conclusion that the k51ab should release for about 1300-1400 possibly being closer to $1400. -
Here's an article on the K series from notebookcheck. Nothing on the 4860.

$1000 bucks is a little out of my price range, and the more I look at this laptop the less it seems like a gaming laptop and more of a multimedia laptop. Even with the amazing graphics card, the performance should not be all that much better than the X5.
Even without the prices being released the X5 looks like a much better bang for buck deal.
Only time will tell. -
just making sure..
the 14'' and 15'' K-series models dont have esata and hdmi ports..? -
the specs might still change, but for now you can probably assume no.
-
-
i would hope so. an option for a higher res screen would be awesome as well...
-
you thinking of switching over to the k series?
-
The screen res does not bother me, I just hope they at least use a high quality screen.
Waiting sux! -
lol funny because you own a monster sager laptop :O, maybe this asus laptop can be used for "casual" gaming lol.
At any rate we got 18 days to go before the end of may! Lets hope we hear some good news about the screen.
Priorities List:
Screen Res
eSata
HDMI
Bluetooth -
Oh.. can't wait....
-
if they release a higher res model with hdmi under $1500 CAD or so, im sold.
-
-
I love my SAGER, but and it's a little bit impractical to lug around man!
And this ASUS model intrigues me, it's smaller, lighter and could potentially be a power house and yes be the perfect "casual" gaming rig.
Plus I think I have a problem with laptops, it's some sort of sickness that makes me want to have more laptops.
I need help
The main thing is I want to see if the 4860 GPU is really all that we think it could be!
Never had a AMD/ATI laptop.
YET! -
Yea for the most part we just need to wait until they come out with the actual specs of this rig and price before we can make any speculation at all.
After that why will have to sit helpless in what seems to be an endless waiting game. Then we should wait out on good long review because there are some things on this laptop that are great for price cutting, but make me think about the performance.
So until then... we are in the waiting game. -
This game is pretty hard!
-
You can say that agian.

Apparently K40IN-A1 is out in the US for $850.
http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/16/asus-k-series-k40in-a1-laptop-hits-the-us/
Seems 14" ones will use C2D T6400 + GeForce G102M (16 stream processors)... -

-
more than doubtful of that racerman119
-
thanks for the response. guess I am waiting longer for the u series
-
backlit keys would be nice.
-
The K40-IN is looking very attractive for my needs... I'm a bit concerned about the slower processor, though... I guess it's too new for a review to be out for it yet, hopefully somebody here will get their hands on it.
