The K40 with the 102M GPU is a little underwhelming for my needs, we need the 4860!
C'mon ASUS, we need some sort of timetable.

I am still betting that Intel is trying to delay the AB especially with the news that they definitely paid companies not to release new AMD products :(

    Record anti-trust fine ftl..

I wonder what kind of innovation we might have seen had it not been for this anti-competitive behavior :(

A german site states that "Tigris" comes in September. Sadly enough the Asus K-Series comes with the aged Puma Platform... That's ridiculous. Thanks Asus, I'm out of the K-Series.

Keep in mind that Puma systems will likely have a price drop to make room for Tigris.

pcvonline officially has the k50ij-b1 out for $839.95 CAD and the k40in-a1 for $949.95 CAD, looks like the k51ab might really make it under $1400 CAD when it comes out, my hopes are up. but i guess a k51ab for under $1000 US was wishful thinking.

interesting, it would be only so lovely if tigris came out for the k series which seems highly unlikely. Maybe another series of asus will come out with tigris and a 4860 before the end of august ;D

Ok so seems the 14" models of the K series are out, although the long awaited K51 which is basically what half the people are waiting for is showing no sign of life lol :p

    Exactly!
Don't get me wrong the K 40 is very nice but we all really want the K 51, hopefully this means the whole K series line of laptops will be released soon, and yes I too am awaiting word on the 4860 GPU's.
    Soon.Soon. :crosses fingers:

They'd probably beat Dell to the Studio XPS 16 update. I'd assume it wouldn't be too far off as I don't think Dell would release BIOS adding support for it months early.

Do you really think the K51AB with 4860 GPU is NOT going to be released in North America?
That would be a very bad thing and upset a lot of people around here who have really looked forward to this laptops release.
    :eek2:
I will be totally bummed if this laptop is NOT released for us

Iv been searching for other Amd laptops with turion ultra and mobility 4000 series, i found this one HP Pavilion dv7-2045ea available in UK. i cant find it on any US shop that sells this AMD cpu laptop, seems less likely for K51AB series to not be released in the America.

excusez moi? I care about Canada! That and their Tim Hortons :p

All kidding aside, AFAIK, i don't think there's any plans for Asus to release a K50 series notebook with a dedicated GPU since the US/Canada already has the N51Vf and the G50Vt. In terms of marketing strategy, it's not quite ideal for Asus to release a model that would directly compete with their other models (aside from their eeepc line).

possible, but computex 2009 is just the showcase of tigris. I'm not sure if production could start so soon after an showcase. That is unless they plan to delay the k51ab by a few months and raise the price of the product.

Dman too long! Hard to wait. Any news from Asus would be great! Like a possible release date... or maybe a confirmation on the specs so then we could have a reason to wait!

instead of focusing on information that asus is giving us, we should focus on what asus is not giving us, and that my friend are the specs to the k51ab and the k71. The only reason i can see this occurring is because they are making revisions to the top end models which make include the possibly tigris chipset from AMD. It seems to fit seeing as how there have been many complaints from different people including us saying how there's a necessity for things such as e-sata/hdmi/bluetooth and a need for better AMD processors capable of delivering more performance then a t5800. Manufacturers listen, and when there are demands/opinions that seem to be relatively the same to a manufacturer, they change in order to fit the needs of the consumer.

They're still playing with fire. If Intel really has taken action against AMD in the US(wouldn't put it past them since they have in the past), then the K51 may simply be put on hold until it all gets sorted out.

I would prefer if this wasn't the case however so yes, the tigris platform would be nice :D

Asus is making a leap by using an AMD CPU(even if it is the new ones as it'll be a free ballgame as to how they perform in real life), but considering the K series is supposed to be "budget", I suppose that's in their goals and we may all be pleasantly surprised :)
