i will try to upload the one i have and give you the link, i don't remember from where i've got it, but it is official elantec with no manufacturers at all.

as i promised, here is the driver i'm using Touchpad_Elantech_Win7_64_Z…zip (143,18 MB) - uploaded.net
-
It's too bad there doesn't seem to be a place to get the stock drivers. So I appreciate you sharing. Thanks!

i hope it will work just fine for you, just let me know if all went ok
i found soem driver here http://www.station-drivers.com/index.php/downloads/Drivers/Elan/
and here http://www.techspot.com/drivers/driver/file/information/16466/
if the one i gave you doesn't work, you should try these, but the files are smaller than te one i uploaded for you, maybe it lacks some options. -
m using it since 2 months now had some issues like wireless card stops working i.e. it will not detect any network available bt fix itself on restating. also i m unable to see the intel control panel in taskbar sometimes error pop up saying intel driver stopped working and has been fixed etc etc. i had refresed once the windows to fix the unresponsive touchpad issue which was resolved so should i refresh current windows 8 or should i update to 8.1 ? also updating bios necessary for updating ? nd will all the drivers be working well with 8.1 ? also sorry for my bad english.

Imagine this laptop with a GTX 860m Maxwell refresh. Let's see if Asus surprises us

Heads up guys!! The N550JV has been refresh to N550JK sporting a GDDR5 Maxwell GTX 850m which is slighty faster than Kepler GTX 765m. This is a huge gpu upgrade compared to the anemic ddr3 gt 750m on the old N550JV.
-
Not huge, but significant.

It is huge over the 750m ddr3, I'd wager 50 to 70 percent.

just received my n56jr today. i'll be doing the 8.1 update using the advice given in this thread, hopefully to avoid problems encountered by some.
so far i'm impressed with build and picture quality. my biggest fear, tenuous internet connection hasn't materialized. no dropped connections after a few hours of use. the only thing that concerned me was that i received my laptop with just the manufacturer's box it came in, no outer packaging. just curious, but has anyone who ordered their laptop from micro center received their laptops in the same manner? i've had vitamin pills shipped to me more securely. -
Asus just released Windows 8.1 drivers on its support website.

Is there a new control panel item that should show up after that install of the Elantech software? Or taskbar item? If so what is it called?
-
Has anyone had trouble booting from USB? It doesn't matter if I change the boot devices from BIOS or go through the Boot menu, nothing happens. Works on another computer though and tried different flash drives as well.
Edit. I think I need to make the flash drive UEFI boot mode compatible. -
-
bought a 120 gb ssd. does anyone know what size hdd caddy i should buy? I want to use it along side my hdd.

Hey guys, I've just ordered SSD for my laptop - Samsung 840 Pro. I've got a few questions, hope you can help me
1. How do I clone my original HDD? So my thoughts are: I can buy caddy, to put my SSD in a DVD-rom slot -> clone my HDD to SSD -> swap HDD and SSD to boot from SSD directly.
2. Is it hard to replace HDD and DVD-rom? I've never had laptop before, but I have some experience with desktops
Thanks! -

I would suggest not cloning and doing a clean install. We see many post of people having problems doing this since HDD and SSD write to sectors different. Its pretty easy to swap the ODD and put a caddy in there. If you're comfortable installing hard drives you should have no issues with the ODD bay swap.

Hi, I bought this laptop 2 days ago. It's a version with 6GB RAM and no OS preinstalled. So I installed Windows 8 Pro 64bit and then all drivers. The driver for GPU seemed to be working, but during installation of drivers from Asus DVD the BSOD happened (something with memory) and after restart, there was a yellow triangle by the GTX760m in the device manager and I couldn't open Nvidia control centre. I followed some steps and in the end (hopefully) managed to fix it by reflashing (I was already on version 204) the BIOS. Now the yellow triangle is gone and the Nvidia control panel is working.
My drivers are:
latest intel driver from Intel website
and Forceware 337.50 from laptopvideo2go
I tried running the 3DMark11 and it scored with 3609 points - that's ok, right? But one thing is odd, there are no informations about the hardware whatsoever. Eventhough I have the latest version of 3DMark installed and futuremark system info enabled. See: Generic VGA video card benchmark result - Unknown, How to fix it? -
Try downloading the driver from nvidia, no need to get from other sites. And use its driver clean option to uninstall as much of the old stuff it can.
-
Well, the drivers from laptopvideo2go are basically drivers from nvidia, but with custom .inf files, so they can be installed on mobile gpus. Without the modified .inf file it will not recognize the gpu hw. And it also didn't detected the CPU & RAM
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
That score looks fine
-
ehhh.. they stopped doing that years ago. the GTX 760m should have no problem being detected by the normal drivers. I had zero issues with the 745m in my q550lf.
Infact modified driver sets like those are usuly using older drivers from legacy sets, because the chipsets they are made for are 5+ years old. -
Well, all I know is, that when I first tried to install those 337.50 beta drivers (=latest drivers) without the modified nv_dispi.inf, the installation failed. So that's that. I don't really care that much about the hw not being recognized by the 3DMark11 as long as the score is adequate and all works good.
-
@DanceDance, I actually purchased the same ssd as you (samsung 840 pro) and I just used the software that came with it to clone/transfer my data from the hdd to my ssd... it was easy and the transition was smooth... Seriously all it takes is a couple of clicks.
On another note, has anyone tried updating their graphics driver through Geforce Experience? It has started bugging me for the past few days, to update to a new driver 335.23, and was wondering if anyone has updated to that driver? Thanks! -
java, it is clear the driver is not installed correctly.

Hi!
Today I tried running some stress tests. I left Prime95 and Furmark on for cca 15 minutes and measured the temps and frequency of the CPU and the GPU.
The results are:
- GPU temp max: 87°C (until then it was quite a long time on 86°C and 718Mhz, but as soon as it hit the 87°C mark it clocked down to 653Mhz)
- CPU temp max: 93°C (at first the frequence was stable 2,4Ghz, but after a while it started fluctuating between 1,6-1,8Ghz)
Viz:
Is this OK, or should I be worried? -
Seems ok, lower than my temps if I stress mine. Your temps is around what I have when gaming.
-
Hmm, isn't it weir that in the notebookcheck review the let the stress tests running for over an hour and the temperatures were only around 80°C for the GPU and 89-92°C for the CPU and the CPU core clock was still at 2,8Ghz (mine does underclock below the standard 2,4Ghz frequency). viz: http://www.notebookcheck.net/fileadmin/Notebooks/Asus/N56JR-S4080H/N56JR_Stress.jpg
Why are their temparatures lower and the CPU freq. higher? Can it be the case that I ran the Furmark in burn-in, rather than in stability mode as they did?
Btw, I played some Battlefield 3 (the second mission after the subway).
The FPS were 30-45 outside (mostly 35-37) and 40-55 indoors. I played in Full HD resolution and Ultra detail except for MSAA turned off (If I turn on 4xMSAA it loweres the framerate to around 20-30fps). Is this good? (and the GPU temps were at 86°C max. I didn't measured the CPU temps however) -
Can someone tell me which cooling pad of cooler master or deepcool or belkin which is compatible with this laptop ? as summer is very hot here (40-45 degree C) in need of one. Also as the vents in the bottom of laptop are exhaling wasnt able to find details of any cooler mentioning about pulling of air.

i have found a colorimetric profile for the LG full HD LCD of our N56JR laptop, you can download it here :

Hey,
I've had this laptop for a few months. It's a beast. Everything works well. The only problem is "this laptop + windows 8 or 8.1 + Avast" = Bsod. Anyway without avast all is good.
When I first got it I updated to 8.1 and all hell broke lose. Now I see some of you updated to 8.1. Any chance of having problems if iI go for the update? I have a lot of stuff on it and don't want to go through the whole full restore and reinstall everything.
If i update, any steps necessary to be followed?
Also, do the new Nvidia drivers recognize the gpu or only the official asus one's work?
Thanks. -
I have to restore windows, and install all drivers again. But nvidia didnt work at the first time, so I have to use the trick of get out the battery and disable-enable nvidia graphic. And now works well. -
I just got my ASUS N56J and have been having some problems... none of my USB items are recognized by Device Manager when I plug them in, nor do they show up in C://. I've downloaded almost all the ASUS drivers for 8.1 (all the relevant ones to this problem I believe) and nothing seems to work. In fact, my mouse (Logitech M305) worked at first but after downloading updated drivers, ceased to work.
I am trying to connect things like a Western Digital MyBook external hard drive that has 3.0 capability, flash drives, as well as some more difficult/questionable things like an older printer (HP Photosmart 1215). I have tried to find product-specific drivers for these as well and downloaded what I could, but many of them don't have Windows 8 or 8.1 updates/options. However, *even the ones that do* fail to connect or show up in Device Manager. They will power up but remain unrecognized by the notebook.
I know it was at least possible for my mouse to work on Windows 8.1 until I updated drivers, so I'm very confused by the inconsistencies. I will call ASUS when they open this morning but would really appreciate any advice or fixes you guys might have. It's been a nightmare and I can't do any work on my computer until this is sorted - only have 30 days to decide if I need to send this back and they're half gone already. Thanks! -
windows 8.1 have some problems with this laptop, before update to 8.1, you had
should install driver first -
I don't believe. You want yo tell me that if I install windows 8.1 and then drivers from Asus site and drivers feom NVidia site for gpu, that I will experience problems.
I just though that I found laptop for me. -
I would take it with a grain of salt. Most issues I have read occur during the 8.0 to 8.1 upgrade process. People who install 8.1 have had few issues.
-
the N56Jr has been renamed G56Jr, and painted in all black color with red light since it moved to the Rog side of asus line.
http://www.asus.com/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/G56JR/ -
Did people who installed 8.1 directly (without upgrade) experienced issues with GTX 760m drivers?
Thank you verry much for your answer. I'm in big "trouble". I need laptop asap, and this one is the most decent one I've found, but these issues are problem. Laptop is for my wife so Asus ROG is not an option, and this one is with most powerfull cpu and gpu that isn't ROG. And it has CPU like laptops with 2 or 3 times greater price, so why throwing money away. -
you mean you want to do a fresh instal of W8.1 not an upgrade from W8, since asus provide now drivers for W8.1 for this laptop, there is no issue for it, i run W7 pro and i have no problem at all, you just have to install correct drivers for the OS you want to install, and everything will be ok.
-
No offence, but I would like to hear that from someone that installed win 8.1 directly
Thanks anyway.
I saw G56jr and cant believe. Thay literally painted it black and replaced led lights to red.
Opinions on the N56JR..
