Hey Hello everyone, i know this laptop doesnt have the best battery out there, but how many hours do you think i can get with wifi off and screen at min? or more simple with everything at min?
-
I am thinking of getting a N56JR EH71. How is the wifi on it? any drop outs? Is the signal good? There are very few reviews on websites and I saw a post on here about it having bad wifi but it was just one. thank you

Got the Intel 7260 AC in the mail today. The N56JR recognized it without any problems after I installed the drivers. Haven't tested it on the bad wifi yet but I'm sure it'll work better than the atheros card.
-
In my case Hamachi was at fault, same problem in three computers. When the computer would wake up (and sometimes randomly while it was still ON) I would be connected to the wifi but no internet connection. As soon as I disabled the Hamachi Service and Network adapter everything went fine. Hamachi adapter has some ways to get on top of the wifi and Windows tries to connect to the internet through its adapter.
If you don't have any program like that installed then it's probably the wifi card! -
- moderate usage / wifi + screen at medium brightness / keyboard lights on / only web surfing on Firefox
- 10 min - 5%
- 30 min - 12%
- 20 min - 8%
1h - 25% => that means that you can get around 3.5 hours with my settings.
If you keep settings at min and no Wifi you should get at least 4.5h maybe even moreNicolas MT likes this. -
Please can anyone tell me the difference between the N56JR-S4023H and N56JR-S4023P ? The first one is nearly £60 cheaper than the second on a certain popular website, but the specs look the same.
Also can someone just confirm this is a 1080p laptop, and not 768? It doesn't seem to be what it says on the ASUS website. Are there 768 models?
Thanks very much, -
Only seen 1920 x 1080 models.
Model differences might be as small as one batch being newer than another, nothing else. You have to check the specs to see if there is differences like memory etc. -
Yeah the most common difference with trailing letters etc is in the warranty.
-
Does anyone tried SSD? I'm wondering if there are any known issues, because I'm planning to buy Intel 530 SSD Intel 530 180GB SSD bulk | Alza.sk and ICY BOX AC642 caddy ICY BOX AC642 | Alza.sk.
-
Is it correct that this model allows 2 msata ports? Those are the options available under Reseller website options for this specific laptop.

Anyone here bought the EH71 model from BHPhoto or Newegg? Can you tell me what default wireless card model did it came with?
-
I ordered from newegg, i still dont have it but i think it has the Qualcomm Atheros AR9485WB-EG
-
When do you get it? Let me know when you get it pls -
-
If I have an SSD with a caddy in my Asus U30SD, would it fit in an N56JR with the same caddy or would I have to buy a new one?
-
Anyone have power adaptor issues?
I dropped mine from hip level onto hard carpet and it stopped working. Sent it into warranty and the replacement's coming in tomorrow. It worries me that such a short drop could make it stop working, especially since ASUS only allows for 1 adaptor replacement. -
Does anybody know if there are any differences between the N56JR-MH71 offered from microcenter (besides the HD / 4GB gram) compared to the N56JR-EH71 from Newegg/B&H?
-
Do you know if problems with the graphics card in N56jr are consistent and random or do they just occur when you upgrade to windows 8.1? Thinking of buying this lappy, but I see many people having issues with the nvidia card here
-
No problems under win 8, only under 8.1 for me.
But note that you can't update the drivers, nvidia driver packages do not have support for the device ID asus has given the card. So it refuses to install (yes even tried unofficial .inf files, still no go). So you are stuck with an old driver. -
some one on youtube managed to update the driver, or you can let windows 8 install it's driver after uninstalling asus ones
-
-
You will loose game optimizations found in newer drivers, so yes it might affect performance over time.
Hopefully asus will provide an driver update some time. -
here is the last nvidia 332.35 driver ( INF moded), so it will install without problem on the N56JR
v332.35 Windows 8 64bit | ASUS Mobile - 33x Series GeForce Driver release - LaptopVideo2Go Forums
since i didn't get my laptop yet i can't test it yet
it is for W8 but if some one can test it for W7 it will be great, thank you. -
Oh, btw any idea what's the difference between Asus N56JR-S4023P and Asus N56JR-S4023H?
They're both sold on amazon, I can't see any difference, yet the first one is over 50 quid more expensive -
-
if it is same with here in France, one has Blueray plaer + 1x8gb ddr3 ram + 2 year waranty and the other has only dvd player + 2x4gb ddr3 ram and only 1year waranty, but better to ask amazone to be sure since for France it is N56JR-4029H and N56JR-4030H, so not same model number
-
Thanks a lot to both of you, will ask
-
So they told me the difference is in size - one is wider than the other by 10cm... What even...
-
It's not size. sigh. They're just reading the web page to you instead of really looking it up.
-
size ! realy there is only one size of the N56JR

Maybe they are identical be meant to be sold at different places. I know Asus will name models differently that are made for other countries, they also sometimes name them differently for different resellers in the same country.
-
Does anyone else sell this asus model in the UK btw? Can't say it anywhere at all, bizarrely
-
Do you guys think ASUS ever update drivers to support Windows 8.1? My laptop videocard dies in less then a week after I've updated to 8.1, now I've got the replacement and I'm kinda scared of upgrading, unless they make new drivers.
Btw my suggestion to everyone: not to upgrade to 8.1, coz it can cause dead Nvidia videocard. And I'm pretty sure it was hardware problem, coz I've restored OS from recovery partition, and still got error code 43. -
no dead card here with win 8.1 after 3 months
-
Just unboxed my n56jr eh71...a great machine buuut. I have some problems with the atheros card inside. The speed is not stable and the connection drops even after i have updated the driver.I have to say that i purchased the laptop from best buy in America but am using it in Europe. Might be an issue on location and are there any settings i can configure?

Can you check it under device properties?
FYI, you may be able to find the newest driver from Station-Drivers - News. -
UPDATE: i updated the driver from station-drivers. I downloaded the 279 version, installed successfully but when i check under device properties it says its the version 276. It seems very weird to me. When i move like 2 meters i can get 4 bars of 5 with full download.. -

Is the issue resolved though? -
Well, i think is fixed! I am getting full speed now, after the install of the driver i had to do a restart to take effect though. I will see how it goes! Thanks!!!
-
I'm having problems with a clean installed Windows 8.1. I let Windows Update deal with missing drivers and apparently it found drivers for Intel and Nvidia graphics. The problem is that everytime the Nvidia GPU is "called" to do some work (or so it seems) i get a BSOD with a video related fatal error. After the restart i get the code 43 some have reported but I can get rid of it by disabling and enabling the card in device manager.
I've seen people having no problems with Windows 8.1 on this machine so i would like to know what driver combination works. Is it possible to update the Nvidia one to the latest version, 332.21 ? What about the Intel one, is it possible to update it or do we have to stick to the outdated ones Asus has on the support page ?
I noticed that N56VZ and N56VB models have support for Windows 8.1 and the drivers provided by Asus are newer, for both Intel and Nvidia. Has anyone tried to install those drivers on the JR model ? -

Uninstall and delete the current drivers from the device manager. Download the latest from intel and 5hen the latest from nvidia.

AIDA64 | PC Benchmark | System Diagnostics | Stability Test .
Also, the Nvidia 332.21 is somewhat buggy, maybe update to the latest beta 334.67 instead.

Also tried the ones provided by Asus on the N56VZ model support page(for Windows 8.1). No problems installing them, but the problem i described in my previous post persists.
There are INF modded drivers that have the device id of this model, those will probably be my next attempt. -
modded INF driver is the only solution before RMA, but lot of people have solved the problem with them.
i have posted the link before, just check it.
Opinions on the N56JR..
