Modded INF driver didn't work either.

I haven't completely run out of possible combinations but I'm starting to feel it's just not going to work until Nvidia or Asus do something.

It's working now. I searched for "VGA" in the support page and got the latest versions Asus has there for Intel and Nvidia. I think it's the 332.33 and it's the latest in that "VGA" category although it seems you have a more updated version. Asus really needs to sort that support page out, it's a complete mess.

You must install the Intel HD Graphics driver first before you can install Nvidia driver.
There's no need to modify the INF to get it installed.
Glad that you had it resolved though.

    Hello guys,

I just bought a N56JR-MH71 from Microcenter. Unfortunately the laptop came with an Atheros AR9485 card and I am having terrible connectivity issues (slow and unreliable connection) with my Netgear WNDR3700 router. I really like the laptop but the wireless card is a disaster. I pretty much read through the whole thread and find conflicting information in regards to how easy it is to replace the wireless card. Is it really installed in the HDD-memory bay under the laptop? Is it easy to replace it? Does this void the warranty?

    Thanks a lot.

    Hello,

Just to confirm it, if I do a factory reset and I still have a code 43, does that mean that my GC is dead ? :(

    Thanks

I'm not entirely sure that factory reset is equivalent with format because after I have done it some settings were still from previous system version. Maybe you should try to install the system from DVD.
I had the same problem with graphics card and I sent it to RMA and now I have new one.

Ask asus. Could be differences like different HDD model, different wifi, different RAM config (1 x 8Gb vs 2 x 4GB) and so on, probably just minor things.

You can see it, but there is a piece of plastic blocking the screw for the wifi card. So either you have to either cut that plastic away, or unscrew the whole laptop so you can open top and bottom half enough to unscrew the screw. Either way it will probably void the warranty.

Asus N56V Disassembly Guide - YouTube N56VZ video, N56JR basically has same chassis. You can stop at 7:20, no need to disconnect the cables since you now have access to the wifi card screw.

That is pretty hardcore. I am not sure if I want to try that on a brand new laptop. I wonder if the Fry's version of the laptop comes with the Intel card.

Yeah it's not really designed to be user accessable as a rule. Maybe if you find a unit on display you could look in device manager.

Got my N56JR-EH71 from B&H and the touchpad is TERRIBLE. Its wayyy to sensitive and just got off the phone with tech support and they have NO application or utility to change its sensitivity! Was able to download a app called Touchfreeze to stop the ghost clicks when typing, but uhh.... Does anybody know if Elantech drivers/utilities will work?

FYI: The EH71 I bought has also been a bit iffy-- slows / stops working (Atheros)

abcgiant, interestingly, the touchpad in my N56DP is much much better under linux. However, if you have noisy ground (stupid 3 wire system) then you get really jerky behavior when it's plugged in, but very smooth performance when it's on battery. Laying my palm of my other hand flat on the aluminum top deck reduces the noisy motion quite a bit. But under windows I almost exlusively use a trackball because of the mediocre performance of the trackpad there. It's weird when Linux isn't just a little bit better but much much better at something like a trackpad. I'm very used to the other way around. Replaced my atheros in the N56DP with intel btw and it's MUCH better. Like night and day. Of course in the N56DP the wireless card is easiy accessible from the drive bay. Go figure.

Well I (foolishly) just upgraded to Win 8.1 and boom - windows updated the display drivers and now i have the code 43 error as so many others :-S
Is it true that the versions of the Intel and Nvidia drivers for this machine are linked and that i need to use matching drivers? i have tried different combinations so far to no succes.. - the Asus support page is utter crap

You can use Elantech touchpad driver since it's what the laptop uses.

For Windows 8.1, you have to update everything first including BIOS, every driver before you can upgrade the OS.
It's unfortunately since Win8.1 is considered a major overhaul of the OS rather than a minor update/service pack to Win8, even though in reality it is just a minor OS update.

You can try updating the BIOS/drivers now since you had already upgraded to Win8.1 and see if issues can be resolved.

Hey guys! I just recently bought this AMAZING laptop at microcenter (Asus N56JR - MH71 $999.00)!! Been playing around with it for about a week and a half now and decided to take the plunge and upgrade it to windows 8.1... with my fingers crossed and about a half hour later I upgraded and fortunately had no code 43 error!! I actually updated my graphics to 331.65 beforehand through the device manager and also the BIOS to 204 before I upgraded to 8.1..... and if it helped at all I did most of the required updates for windows 8 before as well....
Unfortunately, I just have 1 small quirk with this beautiful machine. Has anyone that bought this same model experience some slight light bleed (or something like it) around the corners of the screen? Its not too bad, but on really White or really Black screens, you could see a slight shade of color difference on the corners.. for white its a slight yellow hue, and for the black it gives out a slight greyish hue.... is this normal???!

Light bleed is a frequent issue with any LCD screen. My N56JR is very good (mine has Samsung panel, most seems to have LG panel), only very minor light leak at the right side. But I'd say this is a pretty common issue.

ok cool thanks for the quick reply OC-Freak. Also, another MINOR issue is that when I first boot up the computer, and about 20 seconds in, the color contrast? or color scheme changes.... Hard to explain in words but its a bit sharp blue/gray at first then it changes to a lighter yellow tint... and I'm talking about the whole screen.. does yours do that as well? To change it back, I have to go into my color management settings and do a recalibration and it sets it back to the original boot up color...

Nope, not had this issue. But this sound somehow software related. Can't see how this could be hardware related.

I once had a similar issue on another Laptop - and found out that it was caused by buggy intel Graphics driver, installed an newer driver for the intel GPU and problem went away.

How hot does your Asus N56JR run when gaming or doing anything cpu/gpu intensive? Mine topped off at 92 degrees celcius for the CPU.... and 77 degrees celcius for the GPU.... while playing Planetside 2 on High.... I'm kind of afraid my CPU is gonna melt or is this normal??

Kevin, do you have this notebook yourself? - im asking because I haven't tried a single non-asus-driver yet that would recognize my 760m and start to install, I will try the driver you suggested, but i suspect that it wont work...

    Hello,
I had some error 43 problems, that I've solved and I want to share solution for you...
First of all, I had error 43 problem twice, both times I was running Windows 8.1 with nvidia drivers from Windows update, I suggest not to use them. Now I'm running on Windows 8.1 and ASUS nvidia driver (VGA_nVidia_Win81_64_VER918133235) and so far is everything working fine.

When I got error 43, I tried everything: windows restore point, reinstall drivers, reinstall whole windows 8.1, restore default disk image and nothing works ...

Only solution that I found was to install clean Windows 8.0, copy eSupport (If you bought laptop with windows, it was on C:\eSupport\, maybe it is also on included DVD ) folder to c:\ and install all drivers form that folder. After installation error 43 should be gone and you can reinstall Windows 8.1 or any other OS.

I got my laptop replaced, after updating to Win8.1 (and getting error 43, even after recovery), so I decided not to update my replaced laptop and just wait for the official ASUS support, but probably it would take some time :)

I know that some people have done that successfully but i wouldn't recommend it, you need a specific set of drivers for win7 to work, and Asus doesn't support win 7 for this model, you run the risk of ing up the 760m in the process, as i have..

you mean the gtx760 will not work any more even if i go back to W8 ? so it will be a hardware issue !
i hate W8 + i have W7pro key so i will for sure put it on the SSD.
i will do a list of the driver i have used here if all goes well for me with W7.

I'm not an expert and I wish you the best of luck. i'm not sure that its really a hardware issue, but once you get the 'code 43' error its very hard to get rid of, I have tried almost all of the suggested solutions and failed, to me it seems very random what works for people.
Check out this thread from the Geforce forums: https://forums.geforce.com/default/...m-driver-for-asus-n56jr-s4044-laptop-with-/4/

i will take off the original HDD untouched from unboxing, so if i get the code 43 i will put it back and see if the original W8 get the same problem, if it is the case this mean it is a hardware issue, if it will work well i will search a solution for W7.
thank you for the link, i will see it.

It goes through there and through the keyboard, so a pad is unlikely to add a lot of cooling, you could maybe find one with movable fans but the difference wont be very big.
