Well, you are probably not right with 8x multi on U7300.... R u sure? Does performance bench (maybe superPI ? ) are higher ?

Im writing this because CPU-Z makes error when reading our LOWERED multi (cpu throttled) and instead of saying for ex. "4x266=1064 MHz" it reads multiplier as 8x , and CPU at 2128...

    It's a bit faster than SL9400.
5-10% faster clock speed, FSB, faster ram clock speed and lower power consumption

That's what mine is doing too! Only I have never used Cpuz before. So I don't know if it was doing it before I overclocked it to 1.9. I just have it on normal now, and it's going from 1066 to 1733 back and forth. and when I turn off turbo 33, it goes from 824 to 1.3 back and forth.

I would also like to know if this is normal. I have the ul50vt.
-ok, and either there is something wrong with my computer (I think there is a bunch wrong actually) but either that or this over clocking is not safe because I just tried to over clock it to 1.9, and then play left 4 dead 2, and after about 5 mins my computer just turned itself off.

Ok, ckthepilot I solved our core speed fluctuation problem.
It has to do with the power options. You have to set minimum processor state to 100% or the core speed will keep fluctuating. I can tell this is the solution, because when I set it to 5%, it drops to 1066 instantly, and then when I set it to 100%, it goes back to 1733 instantly, while idling.

Although I noticed something strange- that it doesn't work when I'm playing left 4 dead 2. It still fluctuates even though I have processor minimum state set to 100% (I can see cpuz while I am playing because I have 2 monitors). But when I exit to windows, the core speed pops right back up to 1733.

mine runs great at 1.9ghz.. loving it..
BUT! what would be the steps to get it working at 2.0~2.1ghz? that would be the sweet spot I think..

Ok, I'm pretty sure now the crashing had nothing to do with the overclocking, because my whole hard drive crashed completely and is unreadable, and my ul50vt is now at asus repair, so i'll have to wait till I get it back to play with the overclocking some more. Damn i blame myself though because I should have sent it back the day I got it b/c i knew there was something wrong with it when text files I was working on occasionally unsaved after rebooting and were missing the last few paragraphs... But I didn't want to believe that my brand new computer was broken.

Well, here we go again...I haven't had time to really deal with this the past week, but tonight I do have a little time and I went on battery mode and specifically used SetFSB to overclock, again, to 2346Mhz, checked the CPU-Z numbers once and for all again, and it's still reading 8X multiplier (weird), sure as shootin'...

So not wanting to cause any further issues without some different source for backup of this deal I used OCCT on CPU/Linpack cycle, and sure as shootin' OCCT v3.1 reads the CPU @ 2346Mhz, and proceeded to go ahead and test the CPU @ 2346Mhz-- and after 3 minutes and 8 seconds there was all of a sudden BLACK SCREEN on the little laptop, and no response for about 1 minute, when my screensaver came back up... :(

I used the Force Quit sequence Control/Alt/Delete/Esc to get out of OCCT, and bring back the desktop and sure enough it came back (Yaaay!). Checked the Documents files for OCCT files, and there it is in black and white (and red/green), the CPU being torture tested with LinPack in OCCT @ 2346Mhz, and it continues to read up to 3 mins and 8 seconds, and documents the error there and shows the temp all the way up to 95-degrees or so, and 100% CPU usage to boot, @ 2346Mhz.

    So go figure! :p

What do you all think about this now? I don't know what to think, except that the laptop will run @2346Mhz on battery with SetFSB active, and with moderate use I do not get any errors, can play video using Flash for example aok fine (Dresden Files, Full HD screen, Hulu for example), and do other silly things and have no problems whatsoever...even passed LinX last week as I told you all and showed you all, but it did not like OCCT today...Big ERROR!

That's the story, and I'm sticking by it until somebody tells me differently about what is going on with this machine because it IS generating 2346Mhz, and I have to believe 4 different utilities at this point, and the crash in OCCT @ 3 mins 8 seconds into that test shows 100% CPU usage @ 2346Mhz, et al... ;)

So I don't know what to think honestly, I do not! :D :D

If it's indeed real, then it's questionable if it can handle it if OCCT can crash the computer, while LinX does not...go figure that out, too!

Any opinions on this deal? I am totally, 100% confused by the results today/tonight, but it seems real @ 2346Mhz and regular browsing, normal computer use is fine, and it's faster than sin on the Bible @ that speed, much faster subjectively than 1906mhz is...as you might imagine! :)

I will stop now, but check out today's graphics, and tell me what you all think!

    Later/Rex

Hey Rex! Are you going run benchmarks? I've very curious to see how it holds up to similar frequency chips. I agree also, that the 1366mhz ram is a key component in allowing the system to work at that speed. nice work!

Need some wprime 2.0 results so can compare against a P8600-2.4 to see if you're getting similar numbers. If not it could just be a glitch with your system's frequency reporting.

Hi All, I've just received my new UL30vt-X1 and I'm going through the rounds of getting set up. Although, I managed to follow the directions here, I however am unable to get the SetFSB .exe shortcut to run on start-up.
I've checked the start up tab with in CC Cleaner and it indeed does list setfsb.exe but it still doesn't appear to auto run.

Is there something I am overlooking?

are you allowed to overclock from normal 1500 or do you have to do it from turbo mode? rebooting is quite annoying so if someone could let me know, that'd be great

    rexrz,

Would you have an update on your experience with the VT at your 2.4ghz speed? Have you had a chance at perhaps benchmarking it? If scores are good and the pc is stable , I'm sold. Much appreciated for your input.

    rex,

Sorry if I'm missing something, but what exactly do you have to do to get the 30vt to run at 2.4 (or anything higher than 1.9)? Do you have to do something additional with setFSB? Or, do you have to utilize some other tool?

He referenced in his earlier post that he had 1366mhz ram installed when he had it repaired, as opposed to the usual 1066mhz. I found it curious that xoptic pc also had a customizable option when choosing ram, an option that included 1366mhz. I believe this is the key.

Can't find any reference online anywhere to anyone else who has achieved this speed. Thinking of going for it myself. :D

well I want to beable to set the ratio of memory, IE, keep the memory @ 533 or what have you and continue increasing fsb. I guess the other solution is to find ram that can run at both 1066 and 1333 and set the timings @ 533 to it's 667 settings with that tool, and then bring the clock up via set fsb. that should be stable up to 1333

I think there is some 1600 cas 7 ram. we already have cas 7 but it's 1066... so maybe we can run that at 1333 cas 7 or 1066 cas 5

If you flash your eeprom on your ram with the tool that i linked, you can make your ram run at 1333mhz at cs 9 if you like.

well when i turn off the turbo software i can only overclock to 1.4 but when i turn it back on it will then go back up to 1.9 so i think you may need the software that we have or maybe it a hardware thing as we have to turn it on the the bios to make it overclock to 1.7. When i received my laptop it would only go to 1.5 until I turned it up in the bios. You may be able to play around with setfsb to make it go up to 1.9 though.

I have run a LinX test, with the same settings in this screenshot, but with the cpu @ 1.9ghz...

The results are the same, in terms of seconds, or GFlops, it should be noted that at 2.4ghz the GFlops should peak at 16...

Just got my Asus UL80VT, already did the setfsb thing to get it up to 1.9ghz. Had to set min power option to 100% to get it to stay at 1.9 all the time. Can we get this CPU any higher. Looking at faster ram upgrades in the 1333 or 1600 range. Setfsb freezing the system if I try and up the fsb manually. What is a shortcut I can use use to make the fsb run at 133 if I add some faster ram?

    Thinking 4gb Kingston 1333 cas 7 or 8gb corsair 1333 cas 9?

Awesome. But does this mean there is a limit to the amount of calculations this cpu will do , regardless of cpu speed?

Will you be running other tests such as passmark etc?

I don't think that there is a limit, because GFlops scale up and down with the speed.. For example, the same test with the cpu working at 1.2ghz reported 7.X GFlops...

I will be running some tests, so feel free to ask for anything you want, as long it is possible I will be reporting back soon.

Here is the PassMark score, with the cpu @ 1.9. Note that I was comparing against another UL30vt with the same cpu speed, and the score difference (+15% on my favour) should be because of different software running on background..

Im not sure if all the laptops have it as all I used was power 4 gear and changed the setting in my bois.

I think that its funny that I have to turn turbo on to be able to get to 1.9.

Anyone know of of a way to get ot 1.9 with out having to have turbo on?

I was testing the underclocking with the cpu @ 1.9, and sadly LinX crashed at 0.9875v... I was hoping to be closer to the bottom 0.9v, because it would lower the temps a lot...
