When does the 14inch come out, Any expected release date? I see all this talk about DDR3 VS DDR5 whats the main difference? I only use my laptop to watch movies, youtube browse the web and use office suite a lot. I will also play D3 when it comes out..

looks pretty good, can't wait to see some reviews.
lol, I love how this is the n6 series forums and now we are all talking about different laptops because of how disappointed we are. -
well asus didnt give us anyhting to be exceited about
-
The only thing that I like about the asus, is the design, specs is just average. -
but yeah design needs to go along with beastin specs for it to be good
-
Though in all fairness these are multi-media laptops, one cannot expect the best of everything.
It's an all-around class, so seeing a 650M in them is already a nice bonus.
Not to mention they are Kepler's even, don't think the difference can be seen on a 15'6 screen.
Since some want to play their games at 1080p and all, perhaps they should be looking at GTX675 or better cards? -
its obviously possible to put a 660 into a 15.6 chasis. 675 is a fermi card, will produce a lot more heat and use a lot more power. thats why i want a 660
-
going from ddr3 to dd5 wont need a design change.... thats all i want and the asus is a prime contendedbut ddr3 will just be too much of a bottle neck for 1080p
-
Yeah I hear ya, why settle for less if you can get more for a few bucks
Gigabyte is a small player when it comes to laptop or something, as there's no dedicated forum for that brand.
If this Asus comes with GDDR5 then I'll totally buy it, if not then probably the Gigabyte with a 660M -
-
-
that laptop looks really nerdy though :S not something i want
-
-
This or Gigabyte might be my next laptop..
-
-
i am guessing april 29th or sometime close
-
------
hmm its thicker than other notebooks with gt 650m -
i feel just plain yellow is fine, but that msi is too many diff colors and strange drawings on it, i dont like that
-
-
I really hope they don't drop the bomb on the Asus, I mean the thing has a nice design, sound, backlight keyboard, 1080p screen, Ivy Bridge processor at 2.3ghz.
Now all we need in it is a GTX 650M with GDDR5 dammit! and the picture will be complete -
but what drawings are on there?
-
-
-
Lol true but it's not like other flashy gaming laptops

GenTech is now selling a version of the MSi without the crazy lines:
GenTech PC - MSI GE60-0N-006US 15.6 inch with nVidia GT650M
Also a new review of the Asus popped up, since IB was offically released today:

This is from the review i posted earlier. Obviously horribly translated, but what are they trying to say here?

i still prefer the gigabyte to be honest, it has far easier access to its guts (gpu, cpu, heatsink) than the asus N56. the gigabyte has a hatch at the back for all that -

another review of a pre-release N56VM just went up on AnandTech:
AnandTech - Mobile Ivy Bridge and ASUS N56VM Preview -
also, i dont think its acceptable that the acer timeline can both outperform the N56 and at the same time have a better battery life -
itsfuntodobadthings Notebook Enthusiast
eg. they mentioned the drivers were really out of date -
As for the Acer Timeline "outperforming" the N56, ignore the PCMark benchmarks as they're very biased towards laptops w/ SSD's, though it is true that SSD's make a large difference in laptop performance. The Asus N56's gaming benchmarks should also considerably improve with the expected GPU upgrade.
From the benchmarks, the Asus N56's i7-3720QM has very good CPU performance, faster than any non-overclocked Sandy Bridge laptop's. The LCD panel is also far above average, offering full sRGB coverage and good contrast. I'd say that the Asus N56 will be a solid buy when it's released, especially if Asus decides to go with the GT 650M w/ GDDR5. -
i will be sorely tempted and forced to reconsider if asus puts ddr5 in the 650!
i dont think they will be putting in the 3720 will they? i think the release CPU will be the 3610 right? i personally dont care too much about the CPU, since GPU is the bottleneck in most cases.
by the way, anyone know if the thickness listed on anandtech is with lid closed or open? -
"While it appears like the palm rest could be aluminum or some other metal, in actuality it’s just silver plastic, but it still looks nice".
I thought that part of the notebook is aluminium. Maybe it´s plastic because it´s a pre-release version?
P.S. I don´t follow any others notebook launchs in the past, so i have one question. It's common to manufactures to change the components frequently? I have this question because some of you are expecting that asus put the GDDR5 on Asus N56, but we alrealdy know that they put DDR3 version. Or your expections is not to May, but for december? -
I am not sure about this, but did asus say anywhere that the palm rest would be made of aluminum? i usually just look at pictures and not much of the words...
they might have other versions of the same model down the road, e.g. right now they have two version of N56, one is N56VM and the other is N56VZ, they have diff graphics card i think, with VZ version being more powerful. maybe in the future, they will have an ATI/AMD card version? -
but not everyone has the time to wait for themto release amd card one
-
I wonder if they removed the backlight from the keyboard, I was browsing through the Finnish manual of the laptop and the Fn 4/5 keys are not covered.
The manual skipped those 2 keys in particular when illustrating.
Here's a link: Finnish manual N56V
Hello DDR3 GT 650M < I guess this answers our questions. -

Too bad for Asus this round then, my money is going to Samsung: Chronos '17, GT 650M DDR5

Hello DDR3 GT 650M < I guess this answers our questions.[/QUOTE]
Yes we alrealdy know that. That information is like in 20 different stores. That's why i made the question, why are some people with hope that will be different from that. But Silverfern already explain why
.
I personally believe that different cards will be avaliable, but not until september or october, but i really want to be wrong =P -

-
How much gain do we get from DDR3 vs DDR5? Is it really substantial to warrant this hue & cry?
-
when you are gonna use it for 4 years, yes, and it was already stated that ddr3 will be a big bottleneck at 1080p. plus if it really doesnt matter that much, why would asus not put in the ddr5? it would obviously attract more buyers. asus want the G series to perform much better than the N series so that people will be willing to buy G series as well.
Release date and price for N6 Series?!
