so basically what they offer for express upgrade is different from the one the sell on the shelf? Or they are just exactly the same?
-
One is an upgrade, one is a standalone product. We get the upgrade.
I still wonder if anyone has an idea how or if we can change what we receive. I would love to receive Home Premium or Ultimate instead of Business edition. Home is actually cheaper too.. -
I think what they give you is according to your previous OS, if yours is Window xp Home edition then they will send you Home Premium.
-
Yes we understand that is the case - the question is about finding a way to change which version we receive.
The moduslink process gives 2 options when upgrading the XP Pro which came with my Asus: 32 bit or 64 bit Business edition. Nothing else - I have emailed them but so far no response, and a phonecall to Asus told me it is out of their control. It would be nice to even receive the 32 AND 64 bit versions but it seems they are intent on having me purchase the OS and put the upgrade to waste. -
- fdisk the hard drive
- boot off an XP disc
- wipe out the partition
- quit the process at that point
- start over with the Vista upgrade disc
Thoughts? -

When you put a credit card in through most online shopping carts, a "hold" is placed on your card the moment you hit "confirm"..... It doesn't mean it's charged yet.

To be honest, I don't know anything more than what I typed. I typed it out almost exactly as the guy said it. One guy said that he did the clean installs with the upgrade disc (but he was kind of vauge about it) and the other guy did a recap and I typed it out as he said it.
I have installed XP more times than I can count, but I'm not clear on what they mean either. I'm hoping someone here does and can shed some light on it for us. I prefer to do a clean install and when my upgrade disc comes that's what I would like to do. -
I have a asus g1 and when i fill everything out and put my creadit card info. in it says error. I dont knwo what i am doing wrong.
-
Finally, my status has changed to "COA Validated".
I guess we just have to be patient. (I did fax them again yesterday, though... so perhaps my first fax got lost or something along those lines.) -
status is now at "POP/COA validated"
i wonder when it's going to ship. -
I just found this:
http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=5932
''Boot from the Windows Vista Upgrade DVD and start the setup program.
When prompted to enter your product key, DO NOT enter it. Click "Next" and proceed with setup. This will install Windows Vista as a 30-day trial.
When prompted, select the edition of Vista which you have purchased and continue with setup.
Once setup has been completed and you have been brought to the desktop for the first time, run the install program from within Windows Vista.
This time, type in your product key when prompted.
When asked whether to perform an Upgrade or Custom (advanced) install, choose Custom (advanced) to perform a clean install of Vista. Yes, this means that you will have to install Vista for a second time.
Once setup has completed for the second time, you should be able to activate Windows Vista normally. You can also delete the Windows.old directory which contains information from the first Vista install.
There's no telling why Microsoft left this loophole wide open with Windows Vista Upgrade DVDs, but this means that any retail upgrade DVD can be used as a fully functioning full retail copy of Vista.'' -
30 day trial... Just like shareware... LOL.
-
That article just hit Digg. That's really good news. My only question is what this does to other partitions on the disk. Hopefully you can still specify what to kill and what to keep.

I did this with some versions.... not a problem at all.

FYI I'm having a hell of a time getting hold of someone at Moduslink. Not only do I want to try and change from Vista Business to Premium, the upgrade is declining my credit card (even though the bank says the process is being approved in their records).

... good luck with that. Asus is the one that's allowing upgrades only to certain versions... you may want to call them about that. In terms of your credit card, we see stuff like this every single day and it's not easy to deal with. When you hit "confirm" on 99.9% of online shopping carts, that information is encrypted, sent to your bank, and approved or declined SIMPLY based on your credit card number and your exp. date... and on credit left on your account. As long as that checks out a "hold" is placed on your account. Your name and address aren't processed automatically, but a "Y" (yes) or "N" (no) is pushed along to the merchant for your name, your street, your zip, etc. If one doesn't match, the "charge" can't go through.... but the "hold" will remain for a couple days, until the CC company removes it. I'm sure since they're trying to automate things as much as possible, if any issue came up, they're simply voiding it out...
-
Whats going on? I tried upgrading and at the end my credit card says failed. I tripled checked all the info and everything is perfect. Just to be sure I tried my other credit card and it still didn't go through...grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr that is one buggy system. Obviously, there's nobody to call right?

They're not very helpful... but it's worth a try.

Raven I am having the same issue. I called my credit card company and they verified that I have *FOUR* successful attempts with them, however the website says otherwise.
Nrbelex you would have saved me a lot of long distance calling, I got that number the long hard and grueling way -
OK folks...
Am I missing something here? Or is Microsoft doing business as usual?
I bought an Acer 3690 notebook that came loaded with Vista Home Basic. I have read that the upgrade to Windows Home Premium would be discounted 50% to buyers like me? Not so it seems so far in my quest??? Microsoft had to know there would be thousands of us wanting to buy this upgrade. Yet I have not been able to find ANY information about how to do this??? All I can find is the full upgrade from XP, etc...
Anyone know more about this?
thanks, friend ~ Brick -

Keep us posted on those who had to call in. I won't call until I know calling works thx

I have a W2PB on its way. Since it comes with XP MCE and I want to put Vista Ultimate 64-bit on it, I don't want to install Home Premium 32-bit on this computer. Can I still take advantage of this offer and upgrade another machine of mine that has XP Pro on it?
If so, I'll just order the Vista Ultimate OEM upgrade for $200 and install that on my W2PB.
That should be 100% legal right? -
Question though...Since the ASUS G1 has Core duo, can I install the 64 bit version or do I need to install the 32 bit of vista? thanks -

With these Vista Express Upgrade offers, do we get an OEM shipped product, or do we get an actual Retail Upgrade of Vista that comes with the plastic box, manual, cds, etc?

yeah..both my credit cards dont work either...this sucks.
-
I tried three of my credit cards (amex, visa, mc), all with high limits, and one visa check card that's tied to my checking account. They all have much higher limits than 6 bucks. The same cards that work with newegg, paypal etc do not work on this useless site. Also I hate that they don't have United States but just N. America to choose from and none of the centers are in US.
Anyone had any luck calling the 800 number in this forum? -
Here is an update, I called them today and had success. Here is my review:
It took a few calls to get a ring tone rather than a busy signal. Eventually I got through on the 800# and was put on hold for 10-15 min while a line opened up to speak to a rep.
My conversation began with explaining why I was calling - the application process would decline my card. She explained this is a known issue and is being worked on and is quite possibly fixed today (Friday) - and if it wasn't that it should be by Monday. *NOTE* Before calling I filled in the upgrade info up to the credit card validation.
I then asked her if it was possible to give me Ultimate instead of Business, this is not possible - phone operators *ONLY* have access to the same application we do, if you do it over the phone they are filling out the *exact* same website.
Upon hearing all this news (that the processing might be fixed and I can't get Ultimate) I clicked accept and kept her on the line. The upgrade procedure was a success. It appears all Asus upgrades are now working at Moduslink - however she told me Toshiba had failed earlier for her. *NOTE* an email is sent to you with a confirmation number meaning DO NOT SIGNUP WITH A FAKE EMAIL ACCOUNT.
You must fax a copy of your receipt and the number provided in email to them (or mail it). The fax # is 1-801-431-5616.
Hope this helps (ps - my card was Visa) *PRIOR* to today I was getting declined (however my credit card company verified that Moduslink was the problem and not my Visa). As of today it appears to work. -
I'm from Australia so which address should i mail/fax to?
Thanks -
Thanks for the info!!! I now managed to pass my order with my credit card.
Question though, I bought my ASUS G1 through a nationwide online store and received an email receipt for my G1 purchase. Can I just forward my email or do I absolutely need to print and fax my email receipt?
Thanks -
Raven!
Just FYI... I faxed a printed copy of my NewEgg e-mail receipt to the MODUSLINK Fax number to no avail. I then emailed a Word DOC with my order number, COA and the NewEgg Receipt to the [email protected] address and now my order status is 'POP/COA Validated'
HTH!

I ask this because mine says "COA Validated", and I am wondering if perhaps I still do not have my POP validated. -
jywc...
Yeah. Mine says POP/COA Validated. For awhile, it just said 'POP Validated'. You may want to resend your POP...
Best of luck!

I just finished sending all the info and receipt by email. Now its waiting time
I already installed a purchased and installed a copy of Vista Home Premium on my G1 but this will become my 2nd copy as I have several PCs. -
anyone have an idea of when these are supposed to ship?
-
shipping in 4 weeks+
-
This is quite frustrating. I thought I was through with all the hurdles already! -
normally how long does it take to change the status after you sent the receipt to them? i just email mine to them
-
uhm. I put in my credit card information and it said that it couldn't be validated. Yet, when I checked my online statement it says that there are pending transactions. What do I do?!?!
