Just got a chance to play with a 7 month old z70va today that came in for a screen replacement. I must say it does creek somewhat more then a new model but i cant say the creaking is out of the ordinary. The only way i was able to make it creek is by pushing and probing. Picking it up by the corners moving warping the screen, pressing abnormally on the palmrests. This one has alot of use on it. Its probably the most trivial observation i have had to make thus far. I think the fact that this has lots of screen frame on the top and bottom or the backwards fn / ctrl keys dwarfs the creeking issue and thats trivial in it self. Tahts just me though. To each his own i guess is the saying?

if i get a new laptop creaking would bother me if its 1 or 2 years old i would probably care less. but when you first get a laptop or anything that cost that much it should be in solid condition.

I just got my ASUS yesterday and I enjoy it so much. I have used other laptops and for the price I am VERY impressed.

Well, I finally voted. I've got a Z71v, and I said that I am satisfied, but have regrets. The regrets I have are that I've had to replace the battery multiple times (I'm on my 4th now) and that Asus came out with the V6va long after I needed to buy a notebook! :p In all seriousness, though, my Z71v has been rock solid: basically, everything I use it for works, and works well. I have never had to worry about anything regarding fuctionality, durability, wear, heat, weight, etc. And that's what I expect from a well-made computer. This is by far the best computer I've used, and my next computer will be an Asus.

Hi, this is a great day for me. I'm just going to order my ASUS A6JA. Hurry! I have to go.

I'll tell you my impression when I'll have my new machine.

    love my z63a
the weight caught me off guard, didn't know it was only the barebone itself

the heat on the right palm is nothing people describe. it is just a tiny patch of warmth which could be pleasant to have in the winter time.

i voted yes with some regrets though.

i have a z70va that had the ghosting problem since day 1. I had already sent it in 4 times (imagine the down time) and the problem still remains. the worst part is i sent it in after asus told my reseller that new LCD panels without the problem have been released.

oh well i'll keep sending it back in until the problem goes away.

other then that, it is truly the most beautiful machine i have seen yet with all the features i could want out of a laptop when I purchased it. i still love the laptop, but i just wish it wouldn't have the ghosting problem. once that is fixed, i'll be a happy man :p

That really is a rare occurence. We had one customer that returned for the same issue 3 times. All three times ghosting was about 1% of the screen very minute and hard to screen for. ALl times developed after some use. 4th time we had to refund his complete payment, eat the restocking and eat 6 round trip shipping costs. perhaps you should seek aid of asus directly??

This is a good post, I'm in the process of picking up a notebook myself, and I've been searching different company like Sony, Toshiba and IBM, but when I learn Asus makes notebook, I immediately forget about the other brand. and right now seriously debating between z70va and w2v, customized off course.

I've read alot of heating problem while I was reading review and info for the Asus notebook, and I have to say I don't think is as bad as the Sony F650 I'm using right now. when I play game on this POS or leave it on overnight it not just heat up the palm rest it heat up the table it was seting on, and I swear it raise my room tempure by 4 degree C.

roger roger :)... the only problem now is I'm still trying to locate a ASUS notebook with Chinese keyboard... sigh, I might end up going back to taiwan to buy it. wish they made some kinda sticker that I can just stick on my keyboard but I guess that's not happening.

All you really need is to get a chinese keyboard...... The US will some times do this at a high cost and a long ETA...... for those who simply can't get along with their US keyboard, but technically it's a part you should order from the main office.... Legally Asus Taiwan has a problem with allowing other countries to order keyboards they aren't meant for distribution in that particular country....... We used to have a high demand for UK M3 keyboards after a big review in the UK. After we placed that order and got it delivered Asus first banned future shipments, but then required an order of 100 keyboard to bring them in. So, basically no dealer with bring in 100 keyboards just for the W5, just for you to get one.......

The real issue was Asus keeping the markets for the dealers they had....... really didn't like us shipping as many units to the UK as we did...... So now, they can still buy the systems, but they've got to replace the keyboards themselves and must get them from Asus directly.

I got my z63a from Eddie a about a week ago, and I love it. Completely satisfied, all around.

I'm running Ubuntu 5.10, and if I keep the monitor relatively dim (but useable) I can get 5 hrs of battery life easy. Heat is steady in the mid-40s, which is much better than my old notebook which would hit 65 before the fan really got serious.

Hmm... well I've asked my friend in Taiwan to look at the Asus model back in Taiwan for me, about the specs and price, and how much cheaper I can expected to bargin for it. God I love that country, I can bargin everything. Because than it will also come with a Chinese window which save me a lot of time reinstalling things.

Good to know! I've always been a fan of Sony's Vaio industrial design. But their support is mostly terrible. I see Asus as the new Vaio *but* with good support.

My next machine is looking like an Asus..

I am 100% happy with my A6J. Its perfect. I know the other models like V6J may look a little nicer but really when it comes down to it im only interested in what it can do. This baby is fast. I've used several other brand laptops lately (Toshiba / Dell) and i can say that the ASUS is by far the better unit. The keyboard is just perfect, and the screen is crystal clear.

Overall i am 100%, no actually make it 1000% happy with my ASUS!!!!!

My first Asus...white W5F. Nice build, good keyboard, very quiet, not very hot (compared to my old Sony).

Tried Asus tech support, for the first time, regarding bluetooth setup (in my other thread). My problem got resolved. Process was pretty smooth.

    Overall, quite happy & satisfied.

ceiph have you tried the dead/stuck pixel unstick tool?

Do a google search of it. Some guy made a video of a whole bunch of colors being shot onto your screen rapidly. It has unstuck pixels before and fixed lcds. I do'nt have a success rate number for you, but it has worked for some people so you should give it a try.

Some people had to run it overnight and some only a couple of hours.

    Cheers,
    Mike

I live in Australia and recently bought the M9V, quite happy with the overall laptop but there are some features that do bug me. One being that the maximum resolution of the screen size is only 1024x768 despite having a x600 (256mb) mobile edition. Another problem is that the screen is quite faulty, I have talked to Asus and they have confirmed this. The back light seems to turn off by itself, without me turning it off manually. Then the only way to turn it back on again is to close the laptop and opening it, then having the screen flicker a number of times before returning to normal. It's my first laptop so I'm not sure about other Asus models. I give this laptop a 7/10. Not that impressed about Asus though.

I've had my Z70VA for a few weeks now and I absolutely love it. Everything about it is great. The P-M and X700 definitely show their age, but they've been on the block for a while. It's a pity the z70va is going to be EOL. I just love the chassis. I honestly wouldn't mind having a 2 GHz Core Duo and a 256 X1600 all wrapped in the sexy chassis of the z70va :)

drak0n I totally agree, I wouldn't mind seeing this chassis live on with upgraded hardware.

Hey the P-M and x700 aren't THAT old, come on now.

    Update on my baby Celia.

She's back in the shop to deal with scratches that the service team put on her when she was in last time to replace her messed up screen.

Also her speakers don't turn off when you plug in headphones into the jack. My creaking problem is still there so I have requested once more to fix it, because I have compared my system to 2 other Z70Vas and 1 M6bne, and they don't do what mine does. After I got my system back from them for the panel replacement the keyboard rattles so I have listed that problem too.

Other than these little annoyances, I still freakin' love my Z70Va, Celia.

Don't let this deter anyone from buying a Z70Va or an Asus as my problems are just due to badluck on my behalf. Remember ALL laptops creak to some degree, but mine isn't normal creaking, it's from a piece of the body not fitting properly with the base. The keyboard rattling is probably due to those service jerks, and of course the scratches.

The audio problem was a known problem with the Z70Va, only a few had, and mine had to be one of the few that had this problem, but is easily remedied by replacing the AudioDJ soundcard thingy on the board. Thanks to Justin for that info on the audio problem.

Still love my baby though, I miss her. *sob*

I have a Z63a, and I love all the aspects of it...other than the paint job. I picked up my laptop and put it together last October for a b-day present, and by the middle of November all of the paint where my wrists lay had come off! Other than this, everything about my laptop rocks.

    Hi All,
My name is Serge and i'm a noob :) this is my first post. I just bought the Z63a last week and for the most part i love this notebook. The looks, the performance, the build quality, the weight, did i mention the looks ? My only complaint is the screen. Yes it's very bright and bright is good but the colours seem washed out and i'm having a tough time trying to set the colour correction. The settings on the 915 graphics just don't cut it so i'm looking for alternatives. Any suggestions ? I'd love to hear them. I used to own the M6NBNe and i loved everything about that one, absolutely no complaints. I sold that and went postal and got the Dell XPS Gen2 That's right, "The Beast" had that for about 9 months all the while thinking i would love to have an Asus again. So now the the beast is gone and here i am right where i started with Asus and i'm never going back to anything else. Now, i'll eventually get rid of this one but i will always replace it with an Asus because we all know Asus Rocks!! Now, if i can only resolve the colour correction problem this sexy little machine will be perfect and i will be 100% satisfied

Making another post, still with the same laptop. I've sent it to the ASUS Repair center to have my screen looked at and they told me it was a motherboard problem so they took a week to change and replace it for me and for the first 5 hours I was using it, it was great. But then the same problem happened. So it looks like I'm sending my notebook to the repair center... again. Second time in a month. and the notebook is only just over a month old.

my experiences with Asus both in the motherboard world, and in the few powered by Asus laptops have always been extremely pleasant. i never regreted my recommending of Asus products with friends who asked for honest to goodness recommendations. they too have been happy with their decision to get Asus.

in the laptop world i had experiences with the Asus A1000 (PIII machines), L1000 (P4 work horses), and the Desknote Degatto D1T (monster first gen. desktop notebooks). i would say these machines are still running smoothly. their parts are still in very good condition. and for what they were intended for when they where bought in the first place, the machines run like a well-oiled and well-taken cared of machinery.

currently, i have a spare 1.73 Pentium M CPU, 2x 512mb ddr2-4200, and a 2.5" 60gb 7200rpm hd that came out of upgrades to my current notebooks. i am thinking of putting it in a barebone notebook. at present i am seriously considering using it on an Asus Z33ae barebone. the only thing preventing me is the price for this 12" baby. for less the price i can get a bigger screen machine either from Aopen or MSI. but i really want a 12" machine and Aopen or MSI do not carry barebones which would employ these parts I have. if only Asus would be cheaper. but hey its an Asus. but of course we should always give room that even in a highly technological environment lemons do crop up every now and then; escaping strict quality control. then they go to the market to be sold unwittingly at premium prices only to be experienced as an expensive nightmare by a user. whew! so far i have not been there yet.

I do have a major problem with Asus...

They have given me the best screen I have ever owned on any notebook. The problem is now I won't settle for anything less... So its kind of hard to find a new notebook with IPS. :D

i bought a z71v a few months ago. the biggest problem i've had with it is the battery not charging properly. also, the keyboard is not very good at all... the buttons are a bit stiff. the screen is not that great either. the resolution is good (1680 x 1050), but it isn't very bright. my sisters-in-law have sony laptops. they aren't as powerful as my asus but the screens are much nicer and brighter and the keyboards are excellent. they are also thinner and lighter. if i had to do it over again, i might have to overpay a little bit and get a sony.

i am not completely dissatisfied with my asus, though. it has been pretty reliable and i can play a few games on it. it has good battery life (when the battery is actually able to charge).
