I had my first experience with Asus support for laptop repairs over the last week or so and I gotta say - I'm not sure I'll ever buy anything BUT Asus going forward.
The only bad part of the whole process was the time and expense to ship the notebook in and guess what - that has nothing to do with them - I know what "brown can do" for me now.
Once received, they had it repaired and returned to me within 3 business days (not counting the weekend). The replaced parts without giving me any trouble or calling back...etc. WOW. I was a big proponent of Asus before but now I feel personally obligated to buy from them again given how well I was treated. -
Sorry to hear of your bad experience Karado58
My G1 is my is my first ASUS but will definetly not be the last!
Only issue I had with is was I got one of the Vista ones and it was very unstable even after removing the bloatware.
A format and load of XP Pro and a download of drivers from ASUS's site (easy to find, slow to download). Ever since my machine has been right as rain, nice and speedy.
Plays a mean game of Command & Conquer 3. Though since i've gotten it my desktop has been gathering dust
So in 2-3 years when I buy a new notebook ASUS will be at the top of my list -
Not quite as satisfied with my new G1 as I had hoped..
The keyboard has a pretty annoying flex (top left corner) and the laptop's bottom feels very flimsy.
Also, I think that the provided ASUS software is seriously lacking... who the hell came up with the brilliant idea of having the side lights flash instead of being on constantly? Media keys are almost useless because they can't be customized to work in your chosen mediaplayer. -

I got an Asus Z8000 series barebones about 2 years ago, the heat handling is pretty bad and it is a puzzle to take off the keyboard. The heat has caused breakage of most components, and basically shattered the chassis. I largely attribute most of this to the reseller though, who packed it literally with desktop parts. I was inexperienced at the time and they offered a good deal so I took it, but now I understand more and realise this was more my fault and the reseller's fault than Asus'. I plan on buying the G1S soon because despite the poor planning of the other parts, the parts Asus made have stood up well and are able to still play many current games on mid-high settings. (Though that is shifting downward lately, another incentive to buy a new one).
Overall, I am satisfied but I regret not knowing more before buying. -
I am a graphics artist (and gamer), and last year my workplace bought me a new laptop, which I researched heavily, and settled on the Asus W3J. After having previously bought a Dell (shudder) for myself before, and have it begin to decay on me not long after getting it, and Dell's lest than stellar support, I new for cetain what I DIDN'T want.
Asus impressed me from the start, and nothing has changed my mind since.
I just ordered my own Asus C90 from GenTech, quite different from the W3J, but it's going to meet my needs. It's specs easily outpace anything else I could afford, including the G1S, that I was interested in, but the C90 I could pretty much configure the way I wanted and still afford it with some room to spare, while the G1S was just at what I could get away with (without a cold shoulder from my wife for weeks, and my spending crime going in to the queue of "the list" she keeps on me), but still not exactly what I wanted.
So, at any rate, I have been impressed with Asus, and intend on coming back (while firmly keeping Dell [shudder] at arms length). -

*bump*
To ASUS members : The thread was closed accidentally, sorry. -
I am extremely satisfied with my G1s. It is the best laptop out of the past 3 I have owned(Compaq, Dell, and Toshiba). The build quality is really good, and surprising weighs less than my past laptops(and is also thinner). Some people complain about the looks, but I find the aesthetics very pleasing. Also, the price-performance ratio is perfect. It will really be put to the test when I take it to school with my next year.
My next laptop will almost positively be an ASUS. -

I really like my F3sv but there is one regret... the geforce 8600m gs that comes with this is very underclocked @ 500/400 when the official nvidia says it should be 600/700 wtf .. oh and the battery life isnt very good either -_- ah well
-
Hrmm, I guess I should give me 2 cents.
A8Js owner since October/November 2006. I am currently satisfied, but of course I would liked a bit better quality. Bit of wear on the palm rest, but that is natural. -
just got my W5Fm a few weeks ago and am quite satisfied with it.
The only problem I'm really having is the expandability with the RAM. On the site, it says maximum 1.5GB which means I can only replace the 512mb RAM with a 1GB one since the other 512mb is onboard (which I find isn't all that great). I really want to try to upgrade it to a 2.5GB or something but have unable to find anyone who tried so...
the other problem (minor) is the graphics card is only Intel 950...I hope they could have used nvidia or ati mobile or something.
that's pretty much my regrets. Otherwise, I'm loving this superb desktop -
I'm EXPLAINING
ASUS F3Sv Series needs XP support, i'm sure i'm not the only one who would take XP's ok look and great performance, over Vista's amazing look and low performance.
I guess I don't really "have regrets." Just complaints -
Asus C90 barebones upg to -> 3GB ram/8600GT 512MB/6700 dual core proc/120GB sata. Will test ubuntu later.
Overall, awesome system, even though I got mine a little pricey the support has been top notch. -
I have a F3Jp and i almost clicked the "completely satisfied" vote except that i wish it could have been better designed with regards cooling. airflow thru the inside doesn't cater too much for the cpu and gpu (mostly just the memory), so i suffer temperature problems. maybe they should make the cases out of metal like vaios, plastic seems a little crappy. apart from that... i love my f3jp!
I used to have the A6Ja, but it got stolen 6 months ago. Absolutely gutted. No insurance. I would even say i loved it more. It was the first laptop i brought and it was perfect (a little quieter than the F3Jp, near silent most of the time). I'm definitely happy with asus as a brand. They're spot on, although i've had no experience with their customer support. But if they make their laptops right, i shouldn't ever have to. -
Nice to hear you've had some positive experiences with Asus, fistycuffs. The general trend over the past little while appears to be that the Asus machines are slightly going down in quality - more issues are arising, namely battery wear and cooling issues. The older Asus machines rarely had these problems. Let's hope Asus can pick it up in the new year!

I regret not having checked up more on the sound card. I bought for recording, so my bad. I was focused on the 7200 RPM drive.
The sound card is pitiful via a midi, and if multi tracking it starts to skip after just 3 or 4 audo tracks even thought the CPU is only at 14%.
I've ordered a Creative Express Card upgrade that should do the trick. Other than that the laptop is awsome. -
You mean the Creative X-Fi? You should be aware that there are complaints about it. Check some of the recent pages on this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=112643&page=17

i bought my Asus X51Rseries... and at first i was sooo freaking happy bcoz i manage to buy a low-cost 15.4 inch laptop with my very own money.. and with the Ati 1100 128mb graphic cards i was able to play certain games smoothly... i used to have an old notebook.. it was acer, and only meant for doing assignment that was why im so freaking happy to get a 128mb graphic cards.... im a student BTW.
However, since there has been many advertisement about the G1s and G2s, i was down in the mood every time hearing that advertisement and saw a g1s or g2s at the IT shop... if only i collect more money during that time..i would bought a G1S... i've fall in love with it!!!!!! my friends got the g2s, but i would prefer the 15.4 inch screen... -
The G1S is a popular laptop with good specs, however it has a few issues, that you should perhaps be aware of before investing your hard-earned money. None of them is really seriously impending usability. It heats up a bit more than other laptops, for instance. There is a bug in the BIOS that prevents the CPU from running full-speed while the battery is charging and is below 90% (this can be worked around with a simple fix though).
It's also a bit heavier and bulkier than your typical 15.4 incher so you should be aware of that.
Other than that, there are no repeated, confirmed issues that I am aware of with this laptop. -
wow for real?? guess, i should be more careful... currently im thinking of getting the F3SA that has Ati HD2600 512mb with 1204mb hyper memory..... its seems to have the same spec as g1s but the price is good...
-
The F3 is a consumer/budget ASUS notebook, so expect somewhat poorer build quality than on the G1S. There are some confirmed build quality issues, check here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=212031
I would recommend the G1 over the F3, at this point, due to these issues. -
I would recomend F3 over G1 because business class laptops are usually overpriced and they don't justify amount of money which are invested.
I usually buy my PC's/notebooks after three years because I want to run the latest software/games smoothly. My F3 notebook does it perfectly and there has never been any build quality issues. It wouldn't call those "confirmed" build quality issue. Should I find a similar story about G1, maybe HP 8510 or Lenovo T61 as well and call "confirmed"? -
Well when 5 or 6 people have the exact same issue I would call it 'confirmed'.
Just a note: G1S is not a business laptop, it's a gaming laptop -- somewhere in-between.
I also think that business laptops, if they are indeed well-built, do justify their price, since they will typically last twice as long as consumer notebooks with similar configurations. -
I can get almost two F3 notebooks for G1 notebook. If I will want to run newest software/games after 2 or 3 years I'll need to replace my notebook anyway. G1 will be as outdated as F3 after this period of time. In my case G1 is overpriced and with F3 I am reasonbly saving my money. In the worst case I can even buy another laptop for the saved money if F3 breaks...
I am not sure that the life of F3 is two times less than G1 though. F3 should last for 3 years and it also has 2 years warrnity. I doubt that G1 with its reported problems will last 5 years. -
You're mostly correct... except in assuming that the F3 will last 3 years
that is not at all certain, with the quality issues that have been surfacing, I have strong doubts that will be the case.
On the other hand, as you say, it's not at all certain that the G1S will last longer. Although it's better-built (I know of no reported build issues), the heat in that notebook will be a killer in the long term...
But again, G1S is still not a business notebook. -
F3 has 2 years warranty. Do you think it will stop working on the 1st day of the 3rd year? Many other brands give only 1 year to consumer laptops.
-
I've got the G1s, and the only problems I have are screen issues (which isn't Asus' fault except they keep using crappy ass screens!). -
i really need that g1s or at least F3, my bro is getting AW m15x.. crap, i dont want to lose to him...
-
-
guncha, a warranty is not a guarantee that the computer will work for the warranty period... in fact, I fully expect that budget laptops are more likely to develop problems in the warranty period, than business laptops. Especially when this warranty period is long, like 2 or 3 years.
And now that you mention it, I've heard multiple instances of electronics (including laptops) failing in their first weeks or months after the warranty has run out... they might be designed that way, as ugly as it sounds. -
in my case for M51sn
X. -
My only regret with my A8Ja is the common hinge problem and the "dirty" 6-bit LCD from AUO. This is balanced out by the excellent service I get in Hong Kong, but it might become hellish after the warranty expires.
-
I'm fairly satisfied with my F3SV. It's a solid system with no real problems. It's just sad that I couldn't wait for that 14" with a 8600GT that was around the same price when released. Also, Asus not putting up XP drivers for this specific system was annoying but I got past it. If I was going to get another laptop I'd definitely go with Asus.
-
i own an f8sv-a1, overall i am satisfied with my purchase
, excellent gaming performance, great looks, i love it. the only con is vista! must be because of my ram, only 1 gig
-
It doesnt cost that much to upgrade to 3GB ya know
-
Currently satisfied with my F8SN-C1.
-
I have an A8Jp and it's still under the 2 year warranty (which I think is fabulous). The single touchpad button is getting flakey (which they will fix under warranty). It's also been overheating and shutting down, if playing games without a cooler underneath.
All in all, a year or so after purchase, I'm still very pleased with asus. I've already had the screen replaced, under warranty. They still have the best power:size:cost ratio, in my opinion.

I had faith in Asus till I bought my G1S-A1. What a disaster.
-
Really happy with my m50vm
My only qualm about it is the loudness of the speakers. Other than that, its pretty much good to go.
-
Only regret i have is that i should have waited a month got the g50v-a2 right before the g50vt-a2 came out by about 3 weeks

I bought a S$5500 ASUS VX2S Lamborghini +Vista Ultimate- it was filled with bloatware from Asus and unnecessary security and updating software. The finger print software was crap. It took forever to startup. It got better after I removed the Asus bloatware. The battery failed and Asus charged for US$220 for a new battery. The sound jack failed to but thankfully Asus repaired it for free - had to replace the motherboard.
I did a fresh installation of VISTA recently and it totally failed - now it a dead machine. -
have had two and will never buy another brand
g1sn-x1(modified with a t8300) sold to a friend just wanted something new and shiny
current in sig -
I am very happy with my dealer, the G73JH itself, but I really did not know what I was getting into. I thanks god for this forum because of the generosity of others I have avoided many mistakes (Driver updates, BIOS updates) that could have lead to an RMA.
The email support from ASUS has been very good also. I have always owned Dells (15 + years) and I am glad overall that I purchased this computer. -
I've had my second ASUS for almost a year know and I still love it, but I knew what I was getting from the start.
I definetely consider ASUS a good laptop maker and not hesitate to buy from them again.
