I'd like just add my two pennies...This is my first laptop. I was shocked at the size of it when it arrived but after having it for 6 months, it isn't really that large afterall, hmm, I work on an IBM mainframe, so I guess I should be grateful.
I've always built my own computers, and I've always used ASUS mobos, so it was only natural that I would end up with ASUCH after doing the required reseach. It was still a challenge to have someone else build my computer, but I'll have to say I have fallen in love with this thing. It's only a a Core Duo with a 7200 HD and 2 GB mem that I upgraded immediatly, because I know how crappy lappy's are w/o a fast HD and lots of mem.
Anyway, I have not any problems with my W2Jb so far. It is a beautiful machine... I will hate to have to replace it with a Core2Duo, but wait isn't it a drop-in processor replacement?
Hey, I just want to say that there is no conflict just because I'm a Taiwanian.

nice to see ur post, youda
i'm in taiwan too, and wanna buy this laptop -
Howdy ASUS evaluators,
Regarding the survey: I am pretty dang happy with my machine and even more with the company. If you want to hear my customer service tale read on....
I haven't been back to this page since I bought my notebook a year ago (for shame), but I had a significant enough experience with my Z70VA that I wanted to let you all know about it.
I'll do what I can to keep my story brief and useful. My notebook has seen a lot of travel and gotten shook around a bit. The button for the PCMCIA card eject had broken, and the clips that hold the LCD down had snapped. I attribute this more to abuse than poor construction, but they are fragile. Additionally I had some problems with the touchpad buttons when I first got the machine--they would get stuck and require additional clicking, al documented anomally that had largely resolved in my machine. Finally, the big issue that got me to the point of acting was the apparantly known sound board defect that made my computer continue to broadcast audio through the speakers when headphones are plugged into the jack.
So finally I called up the guys at ISTNC who sold me this thing and asked if they would help. They were VERY helpful with advice on returning it, telling me how to get the RMA number, who I needed to talk to at ASUS (apparantly there is a bit of a language barrier with some employees) and what I needed to do in terms of removing parts to prep the laptop to ship it. They also offered to take care of that stuff for me, but with only a couple of weeks until my warranty ran out, I opted to do it myself.
The folks at ASUS were exceedingly helpful as well. The tech politely took down my laundry list of issues and did not balk at any of them (even the ones due to me beating up the machine). Truthfully, though I did not emphasize that point... Anyway, I sent the thing out by 3 day mail before Thanksgiving weekend and had it in my hands about 10 days later (by next day air). Pretty freakin good, I thought. Not only that, but I was sure they would say that something wasn't covered by warranty and I would get a phone call--NO. I got the computer back with every problem addressed.
Lessons learned:
1) Quality control at ASUS might occasionally be a bit suspect--the defective board
2) This particular machine, the Z70VA, is many things, but not rugged.
3) ISTNC was very helpful in walking me through the process
4) ASUS customer service in my experience is FULL UP! They took care of this guy.
It's worth mentioning that aside from the problems I detail above, which developed over a year of use, I have been very happy with the machine. -
I love my new laptop. I have the W3j, everything about is aside from the low end Core 2 Duo offered was great. Other than that its flawless.
-
Another vote for Yes! My A8js is great, i had no problems since i got it
-
Just wanted to say that the Asus support is awesome here in Canada.
I was having problems with my battery for my Z33a. It takes roughly 1-2 days for a response and about just as long for them to send a purolator guy over to pick up the battery to be exchanged. Unfortunately the battery I got back the first time was still a dud, another email or two and another purolator guy was over to pick up the battery for another exchange.
I never had tech support respond as fast and without hassle as Asus. -
I just ordered the A8JP off newegg, my first laptop and my first Asus. I can say that I feel excited and nervous at the same time. Why? Well, stories and experiences about new laptops doesn't help me too much. That and lemon laptops.
However, I'm excited about the Asus laptop. It looks great, people say the customer service is great, performance is nice, and the price is beyond excellent. I'll be voting soon, and hopefully have a review and good stories to tell about my first laptop. -
I bought a W3V from PortableOne. They have been great support-wise. I haven't been 100% satisfied with my laptop though. The buttons on the side are annoying and too easy to accidently press. The power button failed within a year and had to be sent in to replace. P1 did a great job and went above and beyond - cleaning out my system and checking it for other problems. They even fixed an odd little hair stuck inside the monitor screen.
Battery life is good and the machine performs fairly well. The finish is wearing off of the palm rest - badly. It runs a little hot. Even though I've cleaned the software out to bare minimum and have the max amount of memory available to me, it sometimes has glitchy issues when hibernating. The CD drive also has issues with Memorex CD-Rs and won't burn on them which is too bad because I have 2 spindles of them.
For a machine that I've used every day, I'm fairly happy with it. I almost wish I had spent a little less on a comparable Dell so I could just replace it sooner. I'll probably have a new laptop this time next year when Vista has been out for awhile. I'll probably stay away from the boutique next time and go with a major name brand - only because I seem to grow tired of my laptops after 2 years. My laptop before this was an HP (and before that an IBM), and my Asus has been my favorite so far and also the most problematic... the HP did have a power cord connector problem though that rendered it useless, but only after 2 years of daily use and abuse. -

I bought an ASUS V1JP from MilestonePC.com, love it, great service, the laptop is pretty darn good.
Looking forward to my next Christmas to see what laptop I get next
Thanks,

I've had the A8JP for two day and voted "yes with regrets" for a couple of reasons.
Out of the box, the system was just crapped. USB ports didn't work, any time I plugged in something it generated the new hardware wizard which didn't do anything. Finally, had to do a clean install of the OS, a selective install of drivers, and only two of the Asus programs. That fixed the problem.
The keyboard is too small for me to work with. Ended up buying a wireless keyboard, since I do a lot of typing. And the Asus boot up tones are annoying and no apparent way to turn it off
Otherwise, I'm happy. Much faster than my Compaq Presario, cleaner colors on screen, game play (only about 15 minutes so far) is noticeably better compared to both the Compaq and the Gateway desktop, quick bootup, Intel ProSet Wireless is excellent for wireless, great size and weight for portability (much better than the Compaq), quiet fan and the unit seems to stay very cool (I still use a cooling pad), 5 USB ports (much needed), solid CD/DVD drive that doesn't feel at all flimsy or cheap, great video with dedicated RAM.
Other than the initial problems out of the box, it seems to be a very sweet little NB. -

"you just lost another customer" i take it very personally. As if i am here to please sell everyone. I am not. I am here to talk and i say what is on my mind. -
I have a a8js bought in october last year. I'm satisfied with performances, connectivity etc... Just what I regret is the build materials. Although it is used primarly at home, with little transport etc... it already has lots of scratches on the cover, and the keys of the keyboard already show some tear ...

i have this notebook by asus, and fully satisfied. i can't find anything that would dissappoint me.
-
Hi everyone,
I just bought an F3Jc, my first notebook, and while I am satisfied with the notebook, I have one small regret, being that I did not get a Windows CD with the notebookto allow me to do a fresh Windows install to get rid of unnecessary junk, meaning that the notebook runs slower than it should because of all the pre-installed rubbish. This can be reversed through add/remove programs, however removing all of the programs you don't want and cleaning up the rubbish is not easy as you do not know what you need and what you don't need through not knowing what all the programs do and what they are used for!
Besides this, however, I am very happy with my notebook and glad I made the purchase, and would recommend this notebook to anyone who needs features, decent performance, good looks and good build quality at a decent price!

I have had my A8Js for a week now and am loving most all of it.
The few drawbacks are personal preference issues. Fn and Ctrl are switched (I knew it before hand it just takes getting used to), the speakers aren't the greatest, viewing angles can be poor, and sadly my screen suffers from some light leakage on the bottom.
Other than that I feel I made a great purchase and am satisfied with my notebook. -
Yes Asus needs to correct that problem on all models, not just the ones people pay premium for.
-
completely satisfied with v6j, z63a, w5f. i wont buy anything else
-
-
I have regrets, I purchased my W3J when it was first released...soon after they upgraded the specs making my current W3J obsolete. Also just recently (Jan 07) my hard drive pooped out on me, though Asus customer service was great and I got my laptop back fast, it'd be better if it hadn't of happened in the first place!
-
I researched Dells & Alienware. I didn't like anything else. Once I heard about all the problems with Alienware I went to Dell. I was about to buy a Dell laptop until I stumbled upon the Asus G1 by chance. Oh my, what luck!
Being an avid user of Asus mobos, I never thought about Asus notebooks. Boy was I wrong! I am now a very proud owner of the G1 running Vista and there's no looking back. If the G series continues, I will be there to buy them. -
Asus Are Absolutely Astonishing! Aye!Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
Just got my A8jm early today and this laptop is such a bad boy! Quite a sturdy built, no dead pixel (not that I expect any), built-in cam and voice recorder, speedy cpu with core duo which is perfect for multitask - ie youtubing, downloading, and installing simultaneously, not to mention I still haven't tried out the dedicated graphic card yet. The only thing I am not completely satisfied is the DVD/CD rom/writer which is quite slow IMO, and the DVD rom design is also weird, the eject button takes time to get used to because it doesn't give you a proper feedback with while left fingers searching for that button. But its PROS FAR FAR outweigh this insignificant cons. I would recommend it to everyone who needs a powerful, quiet, solid built, fairly appealing designed, and loves to enjoy playing some recent games.

I have an L5GA I bought 2 and1/2 yrs ago. I plan on replacing it with a G2p(c) in the next month
-
Bought my W3J in summer, so I've had it for around 5 months now.
No problems whatsoever, have installed Vista with no problems, it's quick, gaming is great (max settings and still smooth, though only played HL2 so far), it's quiet, NO overheating and it looks so slick.
Don't regret it one bit, in fact, I'm pretty sure I'm sticking with Asus for the future. Have tried Dell and Toshiba before, but they always lacked in one department. W3J is the complete package, and really well-priced for what you get. Will prob get a new one with C2D and DX10 graphics next summer (hopefully if released), since the W3J is my moms and she'll need it back then. Can't wait. -
I have an Asus A2K barebone, customized to the top at that time. At first, Asus told me there was 2 years of warranty. Later on, they changed and told me there was only 1. I complained about it over the phone, and Albert (tech) fixed it up for me to 2 years.
More problems during the last 2 years:
- Motherboard burned (3 months old)
- Combo DVD Drive jammed (4 months old)
- Spacebar does not pop (7 months old)
- LCD hinge broken, LCD bezel replaced (11 months old)
First year service was done by Supercom, the supplier of Asus in Canada. They are only 8km away from my house.
- Video card (R9700) overheated (20 months old)
- LCD hinges broken (20 months old)
- Right mouse button not clicking (21 months old)
The 2nd year service was done by Asus in Ontario where they cover FedEx Express. The last 3 repairs took 3 seperate round trips to fix.
I used to own a Dell 8200, I never have these above problem. The notebook 90% stays at home, does not play games that often. Moreover, the LCD hinges just cracks for no reason, after inspections by Asus tech... because the top of LCD is plastic, therefore the nut is molded into the plastic. As the plastic gets old, it hardens and once it cannot withstand the pressure of opening/closing, the nuts just pop.
I love my notebook, it just have too much problems... I am still deciding if I should get an Asus again or stick with Dell. -
I've had mine for a couple months now and really can't complain. The screen complaints seem to be pretty well known, but for the most part I can live with the poor vertical viewing angles. Performance is what I expected and quality seems good so far.
-
Just got my w7j, maxed our ram and running xp pro. I am VERY pleased with everything other than the warmth under the palm rests and the vent being so close to where I do my mousin' about.
Other then that this is the best notebook i've ever owned! -
Hmm, put completely as it fits best... But...
The laptop is great, on my second asus as my first if 5 years old and still have the power to mix it with todays machines (albiet todays cheap machines).
The second (W2Jc) is a year old can can still play new games at almost native resolution and lightning fast framerates.
But...
The quality of driver availability sucks. On a 6mb downstream connection it still downloads at <10bps - the asus X1600 driver takes 4 hours to download. This is unacceptable. And Vista drivers are difficult to find for the machine (although they do exist - thanks to this site for helping me to find them!) -
And the fact that they got it sorted so quick is quite impressive. -
Yes i am completely satisfied with the quality of my Asus. It's way better than my older Turion based nx6115.
-
Well... after 485 votes, it's good to see ~65% satisfaction; more than half is definitely good. Let's hope this keeps up for the rest of the year.
-
Of the people who were not satisfied has anybody got an email address other than for the repair section? The repair section have sent me to the Taiwanese Asus site, given me a postal address for the repair section and finally a telephone number for a sales section that was supposed to enable me to complain the UK service manager!
-
bought the first gen W3J..i've been tracking asus ever since the W3N..but by the time i finally got it, I had graduated from college and really only gamed on it for the couple months between that and starting my real job...so my regret isn't a fault of asus but more on my side..if anything i should have picked up the z62f then and added a 9cell
summary: W3J great machine for gamers with compromise in heat (not a "lap" top) and maybe battery life (3ish with 8cell, about 5 with extra mod bay battery) -

i've used a dell e1405 and that thing only gets warm..very usable on the lap..which is why i implied that the z62f from asus should perform similarly in the heat department since they're both integrated..i definitely didn't expect the w3j to be cool by any means but im just making a point here..it wasn't a hit against asus

I am really loving my V1JP... after years of Toshiba Tecra and others I was looking for a laptop that had a pretty decent graphics card for some gaming as well as a laptop that i could use for business and did not scream gaming rigs like the G1, Alienware Dells or other impractical laptops if you travel or lug a laptop around everyday like myself.
The V1JP fits the spec I need and is built VERY well. A great LCD adds to the cool factor. On top of it all the BIOMETRIC finger scan was huge for me since i have become very used to this feature on my last Toshiba Tecra. It is great for more Vanguard, Flight sim and many others are running great.
Cons: Getting used to the keyboard layout... keyboard has a great feel. I am not used to this one though and when typing in dark coniditions ... i am making typos since I am hittin thewrong keys. One thing I am not happy with is closing the DVD / CD drive. I close it and it does not stay closed many times. -
I <3 (heart) my Asus G1. I also have an Asus MyPal 620BT handheld and <3 it too. I have to say, Asus is a really great company. I use my laptop for gaming and school work. my G1 is actually faster then our newly redesigned dual core xp computer that has a ATI card in it with a 120 G hard drive.

The jury is still out for my G2p. I got it less than 2 weeks ago and im trying most of the benchmark games on it with ultra high settings and so far its runs great.
Ive been a Sony laptop owner for the last 8+ years.
I bought one of the very first XBrite screens that Sony made 3 yrs ago. Back then all laptop screens were all a mat finish.
I will say the G2 screen side by side with my Sony is a close close second. The whites are whitter in the Asus but the Sony blacks are just a tad bit better.
The light leakage on the bottom of the G2 screen and the light leakage ripple at the top is a lil dissapointing. -
I absolutely love my W3J - but I regret that I didn't wait longer for 1) prices to drop, and 2) a newer model (the V1J or the G series seem pretty nice...and the Lamborghini one - though I'd never buy it).
That said, I wouldn't trade my laptop for any other...except maybe a newer, faster one =P -
I think the screen coloration is not right. The white is tooo white and gives no real contrast with black text typing against the white. I've tried to adjust the settings, but none of the settings meet my satisfaction. the W7J's screen is tooo bright i would say. it's not sharp i guess is what i'm trying to say.
-
Still love my G1, but I'm having battery problems. My battery fully charged won't last more then about 30 minutes, and it doesn't warn me before shutting off, it just blips the low battery, and then turns off. I am going to be going back to Best Buy to see what needs to happen. Anybody experiencing battery issues?
-
Completely satisfied with my new V6VA, no Core 2 Duo but its ok since I dont really need it. Rock solid build and BEAUTIFUL screen, X700 is not too bad either. But my battery arrived defective, couldnt hold a charge. Took three calls but finally got Asus to give me a RMA number and send out the replacement. Also have slight leakage on lcd. Customer service and hold time is above average but imo IBM/Lenovo is still the best at that. A few problems here and there but nothing too bad. 9/10 from me. I dont think I can go back to a non IPS screen
-
Well I have had my Z96Js almost a month now and am completly satisfied with it.
The display is beautiful and I get decent battery times out of it. I don't intend on using the built in speakers for more than a XP 'beep' so it doesn't bother me they are horrible.
The built in wireless and wired network card is great and the built in DVD is fast as compared to my old Pioneer A04 that is in my desktop.
Things I want to still get - another gig of ram, another AC adapter, external USB 2.5" drive.
Jeff -
I just have my V2JE for 5 days and I completely fall in love with it.
Its screen is beautiful, with 2 bateries, 1.3MP webcam, magnesium alloy, bluetooth, finger reader... Nothing can be better..., except the price is a little too high, and I managed to afford it.
I did have some problems with Vista, not Asus. The drivers were messed up a little bit with Vista, and it took me a while to get over it.
I just wish this notebook to be smaller, 13.3'' is probably the best size for me. However, I cannot get the same configuration with a smaller notebook. -
I have an R1F that I bought last Oct. From the get go there was static on the headphone port (a whine so loud that's it's impossible to ignore), the battery is showing excessive wear (on battery power, the laptop now shuts itself down after only 20 minutes!), and the wireless adapter shuts itself off in about 15 minutes if I plug in the laptop (which I of course have to do since I can't run it on battery power...If I let the laptop sit unused for a while, the wireless will work again, but until I let it sit/cool, you can't turn it back on).
So I'm in the completely unsatisfied category. I've gotten an RMA number and I'll pack it up for repair in a couple of days. I hope their service department is better than their manufacuturing process.
Chalk me up as one VERY unsatisfied customer. It took me a year of scraping by to save up for this laptop--which for me is essentially a very expensive paperweight. -
I have an A8Jp.
Dimensions and weight are listed everywhere, but it ended up being a little bigger and heavier than I wanted. That's not the fault of Asus, but still.
I'm not much on the little letter stickers on the keys and I find the keyboard odd to work with. I have to hunt and peck a lot more than with desktop keyboards. I hear that the thinkpad and macbook keyboards are a lot better.
The case feels flimsier than I expected.
The touchpad is kind of lame. The buttons/scrollbar are odd to work with.
Now, that sounds like bad bad bad...
It has a kicking gpu/cpu/ram. For the power, it's about as small/light as it can get. Honestly, though, I'm probably never going to use it to 50% of it's ability, so I probably would have been just as happy/happier with a 12" with gma950 graphics.
I did get a good deal on it, though, at <$1000.
If I found out that I could get a 12"/t5500/2x512mb/g7700 for <$1000 I would be very unhappy. Unfortunately, no one makes that laptop, so the A8Jp is about the best of all worlds.
JJ -
If I had to do it again, I would not buy a G1!
The drivers Asus puts out are just PLAIN ****!
-Memory errors
-Shutdown freezing
-Bootup freezing
-Logitech webcam problems
- Sound SUCKS
-Major feedback on sound
-On and On -
Karado58...
Are you aware that you get get official drivers from most of the hardware manufacturers' websites?
The synaptics touchpad software I even downloaded from Dell's website, as it was the version that I wanted.
