You know I keep hearing these people getting BSOD, however I haven't seen anyone post what exactly the BSOD says. Sometimes it can help to figure out where the problem is occurring. For example if it is a wireless/network issue it'll usually say theres a problem in the file NDIS.sys. Its a good place to start so you're not shooting in the dark.

Well, the laptop should be on it's way. Says "Ready To Be Shipped" on my order status. I ordered the laptop on July 20th, and I was told by Brian that it would be shipped on the 10th of August. Hopefully they stand by their customer service rep's word. I would LOVE to have a comp that can run more than Windows Media Player.

Hmmm not exactly where the log is. However, you can "freeze" the BSOD and just read what it says.

"When you are running Windows XP, you may have noticed that every so often (rarely) that Windows reboots without you asking it to. This tends to be caused by a Blue Screen error. If you want to see what this error is, you will have to check the error log list because Windows reboots too quickly for you to read what happened. Well with this tip you can disable the Auto-Reboot so you can finally read, and see the blue screen error.

    1. Go to Start -> Control Panel -> System
    2. Go to Advanced
    3. Under the Startup and Recovery section, click Settings...
    4. Under System Failure un-check "Automatically restart" "

    from http://www.tunexp.com/tips/maintain_your_computer/disabling_blue_screen_of_death_auto-reboot/

So I've got a pressing question. How long does it normally take one of the reps from gentech to contact about the order? I ordered a C90 with 3 gb RAM and the Intel Pro WiFi card late friday. Pressing into evening monday, ... nothing. I'm probably just impatient, but I'm under the impression that as soon as you order and it's not the weekend, they call you about the order. Now it was late friday when I ordered, probably around 4 or 5 pm time frame. So I could understand. It being monday evening now, I'm begining to wonder what's up.

Hey thanks for the tip Cancer. Sent Ken a message and immediately got a call. I was at work so i wasn't able to answer, but I checked my messages online and called back. Confirmed order as of the 13th. Said they would ship in about 2 weeks. So... Now all I have to do is wait. 4 weeks and counting...

I'm overseas, it takes about 2 weeks to get to me once it reaches my forwarding address in the states. So the 2 weeks they take plus the 2 weeks it'll take to get to me from the states, 4 weeks. waiting waiting waiting... I'll have the other components that I ordered in about 2 weeks from now. fun.

Hey guys, I've got a question... For those of you that have ordered and received your c90 from Gentech, when were you actually charged? Did they charge you the day that they shipped out your laptop? Or did they charge you and then ship it out a day or two after? Also, when they finally shipped the laptop, were you sent an e-mail or did you have to find out through checking the order status on the website? Thanks

I am not exactly sure when I was charged. I have a feeling the run the charge and when it is cleared they ship that day or the next, but I cannot be positive about that.

I received an email when they shipped it that included the tracking number.

My CC charge started getting processed the night before it got shipped. The charge on my end didn't completely go through until a bit after I got the shipping information via an e-mail.

Well guys I am going to be sending back my c90 to gentech for examination and even though I should be upset I am not really. Ken was very helpful about my situation and even though I tried to make sure I did everything possible it seems something is wrong (most likely defective gpu in my opinion). Nevertheless he was a great help and even let me ship it to them free of charge, even though I was the one who supposed to pay. Hopefully my situation is like vicious where the crashing was just caused by a defective gpu. Cheers! In the meanwhile back to my old crappy desktop.

hey guys, i remember vicious having this issue on bios 502 his c90 wouldnt run on battery (or maybe it was someone else) could you tell if he found a solution? right now my c90 is on bios 502 its very stable (edit -> first crashed on bios 502 just happend when toying with the webcam filters) and havent crashed except when i switch to battery. it wont even get past the logon screen if its on battery, but then on bios 704 i get to plug and unplug but the system is unstable and bsod form time to time.

    guess my two questions are:

in bios 502 what have others done to be able to work on battery?

in bios 704 is it normal for the screen to flicker every time i log in? (i think thats the first symptom that the system is unstable since i dont get that on 502)

btw im have a 2gb kingston + 1gb nanya and running vista business 32bits

Must be overheating, it was 70 something C at idle, we tried 10 units but still crashing, but his CPU is the old revision 22watts at idle so maybe it suppose to run hotter I don't know since we don't have another old revision Conroe to compare. The new revision runs at 12 watts at idle.

Also his 2GB Gskill RAM is not compatible.

i ordered mine the 17th and it shipped Monday morning. Seems that the order is somewhat random (somewhat) in who gets theirs when. I think its because they attack each person's C90 in order, but if there is a problem, then yours gets delayed while they fix it.

Some concerns... not sure if they're valid points but something to consider.

I ordered a C90S from them August 2nd for my wife, and when I asked the following week when could I expect the Laptop, Ken and Brian both responded that shipping would be within this week's timeframe. I understand that there are delays and was estatic to hear that it'd be shipped and I'll have the laptop by this next upcoming week, however there was some conflict with the bank. Now I authorized the transaction, and responded to the service email yesterday and today that it was ready to roll, I cannot seem to get ahold of anyone. I called the numbers they have on the site but not a single answer, and emailed back to service in regard to it yesterday.

If the laptop's shipping is going to be delayed until monday or so, please respond to me that it's getting delayed and with a timeframe of that, I can understand (...to a degree. An extra 7 days delay due to a payment mishap would not be acceptable) but keeping customers in the dark is not a good thing.

Sorry for taking my frustration out here but where else can I go if they're not going to respond with provided emails and numbers?

Edit: Not bashing GenTech PC, nor it's members, just my first time going with resellers that aren't newegg or some other large reselling firm.

    It is a Friday. :p

But seriously, they are usually great about getting back to people. Some times it took 24 hours, but they always replied to me. I really can't speak for them on ship dates, but they DO make a great comp and provide good service.

It's my first jump into resellers that aren't Newegg, etc, so my expectations might be a little too high. :p Anyways, thanks Ken for the response. :)

Edit: Woah, that went quicker than expected, disregard my concerns then. :) :notworthy:

The reason you may not have been able to reach them is the time you were calling. GenTechPC is located in California, so if you were calling from another time zone you may not have been calling during their normal business hours. ;)

Not at all, except that the "offical" 32bit hacked version does not work (I think it just does not work on intel's chipsets), and x64 does not activate, if you're using them.

Standard mode battery is 1:20 on vista and 1:30 on xp.Standard mode + vista "high perf" is 1:00

    I'm glad I didn't went with a E4300 or E4400. Thermal design is 61.1. The E4500 is 73.3.
