True... But since everyone has a differente setup then maybe its like this barebones gets this config thos other barebone gets this different config... Some configs work inmediatly and are shipped inmediatly and some just dont work and they keep trying with different parts / wait for new bios
Or i could be talking out of my a** and have a completly wrong idea though this might explain why some c90 get shipped before
-
Haha, either way, I just want a notebook that works... and sometime before the turn of the century...
Since the new bios won't be out for another 2 weeks or so, most are going to have to flash it on their own anyway. -
-
I ordered mine on the 11th, and just got a shipping notification earlier today. Hooray!
-
Ordered mine the 18th, shipped out yesterday. Should have it by the 14th, go to school on the 18th... Very happy.
Question though, did the BIOS update ever come out? Or are they shipping it without the BIOS update?
And I'm ordering the CPU and RAM today... Is the verdict in on whether or not the new 1333MHz will work after the BIOS update? I'm either getting the E6600 or the E6750 if possible, as both are the same price.
Also, I am going for 2GB of dual channel RAM... will Kingston or Corsair work? 2x 1GB - 667MHz SODIMM. -
And I don't think the BIOS is out yet, I think 2 weeks is what I heard. -
-
It still just frustrates me. The laptops that are ready to go should be sent to the ones that ordered first, regardless of configuration.
-
UPDATE: Ordered early early morning of July 13th, my C90s has finally shipped! Well I think it will be picked up for deliver tomorrow because it says "Billing Information Received." But at least that is something!
-
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
It will be worth the wait. Congrats!

-
Lol just recieved mine but im not at home i couldnt resist and went to pick it up im on mi phone but have to make a stop at my gf house ill be at home eround 11 snd open it up
-
So wait, I could potentially tell GenTech to send my Laptop even if it doesn't have the new bios update? I can most certainly flash the bios myself, and if it means getting my laptop a heck of a lot earlier I'll definitly do it. Maybe I'll call tomarow and inquire how my laptop is coming (whether or not they are actually working on it yet).
-
It'll be great. I'm just very happy I will get it before I leave. I get it 3 days before I go away to college many hours away. -
-
Installing vista business right now crossing finger that everythinmg is going to go smooth thoug imy internet is out so no updating today
im still on my phone btw)
-
So far so good but dont have anything strong to test it out except for the windows vista benchamrk i put in overclock mode and run it changed the calculation speed from 5.2 to 5.5 and it didnt crashed... I have a busy weekend so ill probably wont spend as much time as i would like on it...
So far am really thnakful about gentech testing everything since i have no issues :d -
-
Awesome. So I ordered mine on July 12th with 2-day shipping assuming that, as I had a month to receive it in time and that "most laptops ship within 2-5 days", I'd have no problems. Fast forward to last Monday and Tuesday when I was assured that my laptop would be shipped out by Wednesday.
It was shipped out late Thursday night and will be here Monday. I have to leave for college Sunday morning, and won't be able to return home to get all my necessary files off of my PC until late November because of football. Great. Just great. -
Edit: and you can also buy yourself an external hard drive and transfer your files that way -
Yes, that seemed to be the most logical solution to me too, but it's still a very frustrating $100+ out of my pocket which I could spend on many more useful things right now than extra exercise for the UPS drivers and a hard drive I'll probably use once and then store away.
-
I think I ordered mine on the 11th, maybe 12th.. idk.. but I got mine today so it's cool.
-
Q: All the C90 units sold by GentechPC use SATA HDDs correct? I'm wondering because apparently the ones sold at Circuit City use ATA/100 ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=154160), and I already bought a 250gb sata for when it arrives about three weeks ago.
-
Well if you are going to use it just once then i can store it for you.
Joking i bought and external esata drive to keep my game library and backups ... You might find it useful after you get it... -
-
Hey Ken, thanks for getting things shipped! I am assuming that everything was tested and works well and all I will have to do is flash the BIOS when it comes out?
-
Yes everything is tested with the BIOS V704, if you don't experience any problems you probably don't need the new BIOS. -
Excellent, good to know!
-
So the new BIOS, will it just fix some compatibility issues or what's going on there? I'm still holding off a little until I understand what's going on with it.
-
-
Oh. Ok, well that helps. I'll be ordering a C90 barebones from gentech today as well as the parts from newegg. 6 weeks of waiting, here I come...
-
-
Yea, thanks for the advice matt. I went through the forum and made sure the components I ordered are definately ones that other people on this forum have and work.
I decided to order 3 GB of RAM, the a/b/g/n WiFi card straight from GenTech though, since some people have issues with the same brands that others do not have issues with. Sooo, that was my executive descision.
Otherwise I went with an E6600 processor, Western Digital Scorpio 250 GB HD, Windows Vista Ultimate X64 and NOD32 for virus protection. If anything, I can alway's install VMWare to run XP if I needed. Now I just have to wait for GenTech to give me a call. -
Excellent, nice choice.

I am a little surprised why people are focusing on recommending GenTech. When I was looking for a dealer to order from it appeared that only Gentech had the C90S's in stock. Their site only said "two week turn around", so I searched for a contact phone # to call and ask did they mean they were instock and it would take two weeks to send, or were they coming in in two weeks? I wasted 5 minutes clicking on every button on the website and no where was there a toll free # to call them and order. This raised the first red flag. So I sent an E-mail on 8-6-07(no exotic program, just Outlook Express), asking if the C90S's were in stock. Just as many other people have posted on these forums, I received no response - Today is 8-12-07 and STILL NO RESPONSE! In the past the only sites I have seen that did not have a phone # were scams that wanted to make it difficult for you to get ahold of them in the case of a problem, or their english was so poor that talking to them on the phone was useless. From reading all the posts in these forums it sounds like GenTech is giving good service most of the time, there are more than a few people saying they are having a long hard time communicating with Gentech and people who paid them for testing and their laptop did not work in oc mode when they first received it(which only took the user a few minutes to find). The second red flag was finding a TOLL number for service. Why would anyone want to purchase from a dealer they could not call toll free to resolve a problem, and worse run up a massive phone bill trying to receive service?
Luckily for me while I was waiting for the E-mail response from GenTech that never came, I saw that Bto Tech had them in stock, at a good price, free shipping, and everything was clear and "out in the open". Toll Free phone Numbers jumped out at you. Not only that, but a single click and I was presented with not only a toll free phone #, but instant messaging and even after hours by appointment!! This clearly showed Bto Tech has nothing to hide, and are proving it by making them selves available more than any one should reasonably expect. This made me remember the frustration of searching through GenTech's site.
Watching the threads on notebookReview.com(which I thank all the moderators for supplying such a great place to find info), reminded me of a forum I have been posting on for years - Procooling.com. When I first started designing and fabricating high performance external liquid cooling systems for PC's(just a hobby), I was thankful for the people who unselfishly devoted their time, many of these people were the "top jimmy's" who designed the highest performing liquid cooling components for the top companies in the world. Some times these people would lash out at forum members who would make a statement(giving erroneous advice, or advice that could mislead people) that was not entirely correct. Beleive me, I always made sure my posts were completely accurate and If I wasn't sure I would ask for clarification. I realized that these people were at the top of the game, had paid heavy dues(my naval propulsion engineering school experience was very humble compared to these masters in the field) and I respected their time. I am explaining this so people will understand why Eddie is quick to stop any one who makes a partially true, vague, etc. statement. I for one want a retailer(and a forum poster) who knows the field inside and out and makes sure there is no misinformation dissiminated. I made sure I "did my homework" before I called(as I valued Eddies time), and had a few very specific final questions before I made my purchase. Before I spoke with Eddie, I had decided to buy a C90S complete barebone and install the OCZ 800Mhz memory which from reding the many posts here on the forums seemed like the ideal memory as it had headroom. Eddie took the time to explain the current memory incompatibility issues might still happen even with the OCZ. Also, he gave me the straight,no bs explanation of the very confusing and risky purchase of buying the C90S as a barebone with at least no CPU what others have had to deal with if they needed warranty, because ASUS's original idea was to sell the barebones to the dealers who would in turn assemble and warranty them to the end purchaser. This was a huge point. The last thing I want is to get stuck in a "whose got my warranty game". After only a few minutes of speaking with him, it was obvious he was the dealer I wanted to trust with my hard earned money. I knew I didn't have to waste his time asking if he was going to install the latest bios's, etc. as i knew that someone as "on the ball" as Eddie would do everything that was needed to send me a first class product. I thanked him for his time, hung up and went to the Bto Tech website and ordered a C90S with the 2.4Ghz proc so I would receive the warranty, and 2x1gb sticks of the Kingston ram so I would not have any of the memory related problems.
Now comes the hard part - waiting.
I realize this is a long post, but I hope it will help to clear up a few things so that everyone who is making a choice about the C90S will end up happy
And just for the record, I paid full price for my laptop, and no one asked me to write this. I spent the time to repay all of the others here who so graciously and unselfishly give of their experience. Thanks

lol everyones so geared up to defend this thing or that thing XD
Look as far as sites go every shop you go to has a deal to pitch.
Weither it's gentech or another site, I have only one expectation that I
believe we all have in common.
Ship us our stuff or we'll be down there in mob format! XD
C'mon guys pitting sites against each other is not what we should aim
for at all, personally someday I'd like to see companies work together
and none of this "every company for himself" bs.
I mean that in the sense it should be in, not to get retorts of companies
like the medical industry that works together to screw others.
I'm sure ever site here selling a c90 has their own testing methods and
company secret techniques that they'd rather not go into.
Good luck to all the sites selling things, and as far as gentech goes..
They sent me mine and I'm not having any issues so far, time will tell.
Later on I'll write a review for my c90 and tack on a small review for gentech. -
Just got the email saying my C90s is ready to ship from gentech's warehouse
. Shipped in exactly 25 days (I ordered July 17th, so that's total days, not business days) just like Ken said the C90s' would. He was very helpful, Brian answered all my questions (so did Ken when I started emailing him directly) within hours of my emailing them to him, and the customer service people helped with the small changes I made to my order. All in all a very pleasant experience with Gentech. Another customer giving props to Ken and his crew for their service and knowledgability.

I think gentechs service is great too! though the c90 is a test to patience
(post eddited due to a case of being a whiny little girl)
(BTW dont know how to spell whiny, lol) -
Well IM having BSOD in oc mode too (standard as well), sigh ill try reinstalling windows and testing each stick of ram separatly.
(post editted) -

For the different retailers here selling C90s: What exactly is your testing process for these units? Do you have a check list of things to test before everythings determind to be fine? Do you run stress tests? Are known issues tested? If possible it would be nice to actualy know what steps are taken to ensure the units are problem free upon arrival.

Hey everyone im really sorry about yesterday i was really sleep deprived and on a very foul mood, i do sounded like a whiny little girl, lol, after a good night sleep im kind embarrased about my ranting.
Im still very happy with my C90 Im sure ill eventually find out whats happening and fix it, illt try your suggestions tonight thanks and again sorry for my ranting.
(BTW im editing my posts... because... well ... they are embarassing... lol) -
We all know that the c90s has several issues with it, and some of them are quite major. Ken, could you give us an update on the new BIOS and when it will be arriving, and will this fix these issues that people are having?
It just scares me a little that Cancer777 is one of the customers that had to wait a long time like many of us for extra testing, and yet when he finally gets his laptop, he is already having several BSODs on normal use. -
most of the times it happens when on battery and when connecting stuff (like a gamepad or an esata hard drive) -
To anyone ordering a C90 from GenTechPC
