It sure is possible. This is *the* laptop to get, and while amazon.com is well stocked, there are also a LOT of people that want it. When the reviews hit the street, it'll be announced on sites like Engadget and Gizmodo, and people that hadn't considered this an option will read the reviews and purchase it. This is especially true considering that Amazon is the ONLY retailer to carry it.
Some people will hold out because it's black and they want silver. Some people will wait because of the 4400mAh 8-cell. Some people will hesitate because of the 1 year warranty. But make no mistake: this will be a high demand item this holiday season. That said, I don't think it'll sell out in the next few days, but it pays to be safe.
Get it while you can.

Oh you should be fine then. Reviews should be popping up tomorrow (don't quote me
). I won't be able to do a thorough review until I install my Intel SSD G2 which arrives at the same time. I'm pretty excited.

i really hope the laptop doesn't run out of stock. Asus tends to have this problem, same for all taiwanese companies. they love to cut down on inventory to create hype then launch a bunch... then launch a new model again...

2) usb installation -

I forsee this item being out of stock. I just hope it's still available when I'm ready and able to buy.
I'm not settling for the other ULs either. It's UL30Vt or bust... Of course, unless something better comes along in the meantime, which is HIGHLY unlikely...
}:^)~ -
-
I seem to remember Amazon saying when a certain item is low on stock, even to a degree of saying "3 items left in stock" etc... hopefully they'll give us a warning here too.
-
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'm wrong. -
Buy now and leave it boxed up. You've got 30 days to return it. They deduct shipping cost from your RMA, but because it is unopened there is no restocking fee. You'll eat $8-10 if you decide you don't want it, but on the flip side you guarantee yourself one in case they go OOS.
Mine will be here Friday. For $4 I should have overnighted, oh well, I'll get to read some reviews before I unbox mine -

Here's another thing that I would seriously consider, though, a 'luxury' UL (eg. ULX30Vt):
In other words, keep the hardware the same but upgrade:
1) The battery chemistry (lipo - smaller/lighter at same capacity -- no bulge)
2) The screen (high quality, LED, 1600x900)
3) The case materials (aluminum covering is fine, but more of it)
4) The thinness (make it a wee bit thinner with no protrusions other than small feet)
5) The form factor (class it up a bit)
6) Backlit keyboard
7) Better webcam
8) Factory overclocked SU9400 processor (same power drain, more performance)
9) Bluetooth
10) Two WiFi antennas
If it were priced in MBP territory, I would buy and even wait for this.
For those that just read this, it's 100% fiction. the ULX30Vt doesn't exist, nor is likely that it ever will.

But I guess this counts you out for an early review, eh?
}:^)~ -
i got my 5600mah battery from buy.com on ebay.
just search "90-NWT3B3000Y".
i suggest doing "buy it now" and getting 10% off through bing (about 12 bucks).
you won't find it for cheaper than 104 dollars anywhere online :-/ -

I've just placed my order, also used this order to get a new mouse (Logitech anywhere MX mouse).
Pray for me. -
Hmmmm, interestingly enough, the UX30 seems to have had their price cut by almost $200, its about $899 now, for those who don't need the graphics card, the UX30 might be a good alternative, though I believe it has a 6 cell.
It seems like ASUS cut a few corners, the 1 year warranty vs 2 years, and 4400mAh battery vs the 5600mAh, mainly to price the unit as it is, which makes sense, the price is pretty darn good. -
Also, anyone up to create a new UL30VT thread, since majority of this thread are all speculation/comments on what the UL30VT could be.
-
-
Just got my ship notification from Amazon. Should be receiving the ul30vt on friday.
-
someone start a UL30VT owner's lounge? quite a few of us will be able to put up reviews.
-
BTW, Owners' Lounge has been created.
-
Asus make a SILVER version now!!!!!!!

Have you guys noticed that this thread has more posts in it than the official UL30a owners lounge? Yikes, this is going to be one hot seller.
}:^)~ -
which is around the same as the UL30a thread (394 posts) hahaha... -
It got delivered to me an hour ago.. No time to mess with it until tomorrow
-

I couldnt resist after seeing a post about it on engadget and pulled the trigger... will arrive on friday..
I have a dell xps m1330 where the video card fried and dell told me they will send me a studio xps 13 (m1340) in 2 weeks, ill be selling the studio xps 13.
I like the battery life of this baby much better! -
I don't have any photos, but what do you guys want to know about the laptop? Opening it right now
-
Hmmm.. I emailed GenTechPc.com and asked if they're going to carry the UL30Vt and it looks like they're going to have the UL30VT-A1, but the ASUS rep at Amazon said it won't be available ?? I'm confused. Here's our back-and-forth email between a rep @ Gentechpc.com and me:

Are you guys going to be carrying the ASUS UL30Vt laptops?
It's this laptop here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002XZLURC . Amazon already has it on there site for pre-orders, so I was wondering if you guys are going to carry this or not.
It's like the ASUS UL30A-A2 except it has a dedicated video card Nvidia g210m.
His reply:
Hi proview3r,
Yes we will have it for pre-order soon, it's just that the arrival date is on January 2010 and we not sure if it's going to delay, we will have pre-order page up as soon as we are so sure it's coming.
proview3r wrote:
So are you guys getting the UL30VT for sure? because on the discussion forums at Amazon.com, the ASUS representative stated that the Asus UL30VT-X1 is only available at Amazon.com and Amazon.ca .
His reply:
That's right, We won't have UL30VT-X1, we will have UL30Vt-A1.
The person I talked to is : [email protected] -
The X1 seems to be Amazon exclusive for the time being, until early 2010 when all the other dealers(be it NewEgg, GenTechPC, NCIX, etc.) get theirs, the A1.
From what it seems, the X1 and A1 should be identical but the A1 should have the 5600mAh battery stock, and the regular 2 year warranty + 1 year accidental. Of course, with a price increase of at least $50-$100. Potentially Windows 7 Pro instead of Home, among other things. -
What to do, what to do?
Buy the UL30VT-X1 now from Amazon.com for 800 + 67 tax = $867 total
or
Wait until early next year for the UL30VT-A1 and pay roughly (estimating) $900 (no tax from other sites) for the UL30VT-A1 ? -
From Amazon discussions regarding the A1
-
Probably only buffing sales of the X1, but maybe the A1 get delayed... idk, but if gentech saying they gona get them, they will sooner or later. Either way seems the only difference is the battery, and you can get it close to $100 so at worst you just buy the extra battery for a $50-100 loss, but you have 2 batteries. Still its fine either way.

The wireless connection is fine. Walked around the house and the bars didn't drop

Ah, I went ahead and ordered the UL30VT from amazon.. chose 1 day shipping, hopefully it'll arrive this Friday.
-
This little machine is great. Initial boot up takes around 10 minutes. After the first boot u. exactly 1 minute
going to upgrade to windows 7 pro during the weekend, let see if there will be improvement after the bloatware are gone -
does anyone know if this laptop is available in australia yet or if not how can i get one from overseas. amazon dont seem to be shipping them overseas.
any other retailers.?? -

@dazzyd
You may want to consider having it re-shipped. Check out this page with some discussion about re-shipping to Canada, maybe it'll work for Australia as well:

@everyone else
I suppose the bulk of the conversation will shift to the Official UL30Vt owners lounge...
}:^)~ -
@Dazzy D
The model will be available in Australia shortly, but be prepared to pay an additional 400 AUD to get your hands on it.
the model numbers are : UL30VT-QX025X for silver and UL30VT-QX028X for BLACK.
These versions ships with win 7 professional and a 320 gig hd.
But its costs more than the X1 which has better specs.......
One retailer that offers the mode is http://www.i-tech.com.au/products/59446_Asus_UL30VT_QX025X_SLV__SU7300__13.aspx
By my calculations, you would be better off buying it off ebay for 1200 + free shipping than lashing out over 1500AUD for an australian version (which has worse specs imho, who cares about win 7 proff neway)....
Where are you based? if you reship it, maybe we could do a bulk shipment -
Capt'n Corrupt Notebook Evangelist
Gold?! I'd love to see how that looks!
EDIT: unless 'gold' is just a model designation... LOL
}:^)~ -
haha, dunno where I got the gold from, I must be pirating again

Just wondering,
I know this laptop doesn't have a built-in optical drive, but does ASUS still include a Windows 7 disc for those of us who want to re-install fresh using an ISO of the disc on a USB drive??
Or do they not include an actual disc, and include some sort of bootable partition to reinstall??
Thanks for any info. -
bootable partition with the factory image.
Its also possible to install OS off a usb thumb drive. -
How do you get the OS image from the bootable partition to the USB drive?
-
I don't know of a way, I was refering to if you have another copy of an OS on a thumb drive.
-
Recovery os disk is included
when you first boot up it ask I'd you want to back up a copy of your windows -
I'll be replacing my HDD with a SSD soon after arrival on FRI
, any thoughts on clean install of windows 7 vs using recovery disk? How bad is asus for bloatware? I won't have luxury of recovery partition as it will be a new drive. It will need to be a usb install, as I don't have an external optical drive. I would like to retain all built in overclocking obviously as well as the expressgate functionality. I already have win 7 image on usb drive if that helps. I think I can clean install with new included asus licence. I guess I'm ok with removing asus bloatware, but how to get recovery disks on to usb drive. Is it an option in the disk creation tool?
