How does this cpu (su7300) handle the HD content?
I'm a little sceptical if it can play the higher bitrate movies with 15mbps or even more. (i will connect the notebook with plasma via hdmi cabel)
I want to buy a future proof 13.3" notebook, that will play any HD without a problem. (i don't care about games, just videos) So i need to make shure about that thing. Other than that, the notebook seems great to me.
So can someone try playing this sample http://www.legittorrents.info/index.php?page=details&id=c684d628dc3da4e1ec6c1bbcca3f3888296cadca
(I'm also interested in those, who have the ul30a...)
Thank you in advance!!!

That's a good question. You may want to follow what's going on in this thread:

Quadron who owns a UL80Vt is going to do a test. The UL80Vt almost identical to the UL30Vt, just with a DVD drive and a slightly different case structure.

720p mkv present no issues. I don't have any 1080p content yet to try out.

beauml, you may want to check out the UL30Vt official owners thread:

The laptops have been arriving, there are pics (1st page), and impressions are coming in. No full review yet, but people generally seem delighted with the laptop! Check it out!

Thx for the response!
if anyone decides to check the sample/any other high bitrate movie, please post the result here.
thx Capt'n, wil be checking that other topic as well
edit: here they are claiming, ul30a couldn't handle their 1080p test clip? weird... -
Hothardware may not have enabled dxva for their test. There was a discussion on how to enable dxva for the Intel 4500MHD chipset in the UL30 Owner's Lounge thread.
Since my UL30A already has no problems, I'm sure the UL30VT with Turbo33 + the Nvidia G210M GPU will be fine. -
Thx kuri!
I'm pretty certain i will buy this notebook -

It's nice to know that the video clip played despite the high bit rate. Do you know if it'll play at 1080p on an external screen?

UPS has some good people. I missed the shipment and called to pick it up at the main center... However when i called and the driver got the notification he said it was close enough and surprised me at the door ! Thanks customer Service. I'll be running it through some test today and tomorrow and let you guys know what I find.
Anything specific you want to know
BTW I already love how light this baby is. It's perfect for what I need... Mobile photo editing for on event photographyplaying movies during the downtime is great too.

see you @ the owners forum -
@ dazzyD
Yep! it comes with a 320 Gig hd.However it I reckon it has 2 years of service and stuff like that.
Anyway, by my calculation, I were to reship it to Australia.
It would be 799 for the laptop
100 USD for reshipping
No customs or GST since the laptop is less than 1000 AUD.
might order it soon then -
799 US cost
0 US ship to friend in US
40 US expedited with US postal service
5 US brokerage fee (THATS why you use US Post instead of UPS etc)
843 US subtotal
891 CAD (todays rate 1 USD = 1.05705 CAD)
18 CAD (MC currency conversion fee)
45 CAD GST (I live in Alberta so no HST)
0 CAD duty - there is no duty on computers regardless of point of manufacture
954 CAD total
Ok theres one more catch. My friend declares it as a gift - you still have to declare the value but it may or may not come through without a GST assessment - especially at Christmas time. Theres a chance it could arrive for a total price of $909 CAD. If the dollar takes another spike the price comes down more.
So the only question is will I see it for less than $909 CAD before tax for sale in Canada in the forseeable future? -
i put an overnight order earlier this afternoon on this bad boy
excited for its arrival tomorrow!! -
I've found a way to import it to Canada for $854 USD shipped. However, it does not guarantee brokerage/customs/taxes, so its a hell of a gamble.
Hmmm.... -
http://www.aacb.com/tools/dutytax.asp (make sure to set your province to get the correct taxes). Add 2% on the CAD purchase price (but not the taxes) as this is the standard currency exchange rate for most credit cards.
GST/HST is unavoidable regardless of where you buy it. Brokerage fees depends on who you ship it with but whatever you do NEVER use UPS, their fees are excessive. US postal service is the cheapest at around $5, and from what I understand DHL includes brokerage fees in their shipping rate (but double-check this). -
What's the opinion on the webcam as it is only 0.3M?
It would have been perfect if it was at least 1.3M -

It's even worse here in europe. God knows when I'm gonna get this thing in my hands...
-
It seems some people are starting to receive their UL30VT though, hopefully they can help out.
-
Will the UL30VT be available in the UK?
-
Yes, the UL30VT will be available in most countries, though with a different product number. The ones I have seen starts with QX, so UL30VT-QX, try to input this in a search engine and see what it brings up for the UK.
-
I live in Vancouver BC. I'm planning on getting one shipped to a mail depot in Blaine Wa and picking it up when I go for a weekend getaway to Seattle. Just before checking out my cart on Amazon I see an estimated tax of $67.92us. -
I will be testing out the HDMI tomorrow.

Here is the video of playing that high bitrate clip on asus ul30vt. (+ on external LCD)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3VF6fH6qAhQ
I also told him to open the task maneger for cpu usage, but he forgot... Anyway, he's got alot of videos about this machine, so check them out -

That was a GREAT HD vid, and now I'm convinced that this monster can chomp through any video! I'm even more stoked to get it!
I'm assuming that the external monitor was 1080p native. Is this a correct assumption?

Does anyone have videos of gameplay on the ul30vt, there are tonnes of gaming videos about other netbooks, ie. 9400m but none of the ul30vt. And this is designed with gaming in mind!

Give it some time> ION is not as new as the ASUS UL30Vt.

I almost clicked to order, even though I am not thrilled with Asus's treatment of customers problems as of late. I didn't because the ports just aren't as handy as the U81a or UL80vt. I like the 2 USB's and all the video and audio ports on the left side of the notebook as I tend to use a mouse on the right hand side of it.
Seems though this particular model is an awesome unit though. Asus needs to get their customer service in line with the majority of their hardware. My primary peev's as of late though;
1.) Treatment of customers with the UL30a-xx wireless problems in some series notebooks.......
2.) G51j BSOD issue is still not resolved and no real sence of urgency at this late point by Asus........
3.) Late/delayed driver disc's for the Windows 7 upgrades. At least, even if they didn't directly admit the delay is their responsabilty, they have a schedule.......
Now if Asus gets on the ball, maybe I can recommend this supposedly excellent piece of hardware to others................ -
No state taxes shipping to California from Nevada. Tax asessment varies by state tax rules for mail-order goods. -
Please check the ul30vt thread in the owner's lounge : http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=439591&page=42
-
There is already an owners lounge?
I have a question for you, should this thread be closed and direct all the traffic to the owners lounge found here to avoid double posts and missing information?
If so, report the thread and ask a moderator if he could close the thread. This way all the information is compiled together. -
Good idea, I was meaning to do so, since the origins of this thread was a speculation thread.
