Ul30vt

How does this cpu (su7300) handle the HD content?
I'm a little sceptical if it can play the higher bitrate movies with 15mbps or even more. (i will connect the notebook with plasma via hdmi cabel)

I want to buy a future proof 13.3" notebook, that will play any HD without a problem. (i don't care about games, just videos) So i need to make shure about that thing. Other than that, the notebook seems great to me.

Quadron who owns a UL80Vt is going to do a test. The UL80Vt almost identical to the UL30Vt, just with a DVD drive and a slightly different case structure.

720p mkv present no issues. I don't have any 1080p content yet to try out.

 

Played 12.8 mbps avg 1080p + 1.5mbps DTS just fine, with cpu room to spare. (Cores spiking to 80%.)

edit: here they are claiming, ul30a couldn't handle their 1080p test clip? weird...

 

I have the UL30A. Just tried downloading the 96MB 'killa sampla x264' mkv video clip and it played perfectly fine. CPU usage was between 5-20%. I have Vista 32-bit and played the clip in Media Player Classic Home Theater with dxva enabled though.

Hothardware may not have enabled dxva for their test. There was a discussion on how to enable dxva for the Intel 4500MHD chipset in the UL30 Owner's Lounge thread.

Since my UL30A already has no problems, I'm sure the UL30VT with Turbo33 + the Nvidia G210M GPU will be fine.

Hi nanonym, im in perth. are you sayin that the UL30VT-QX028X is lesser specced that the UL30VT-X1 but costs more. thats a bloody rip off then

where else to get the UL30VT-X1 besides ebay and is the X1 with the 8 cell 5600mAh battery and 4gb of ram.??

UPS has some good people. I missed the shipment and called to pick it up at the main center... However when i called and the driver got the notification he said it was close enough and surprised me at the door ! Thanks customer Service. I'll be running it through some test today and tomorrow and let you guys know what I find.

BTW I already love how light this baby is. It's perfect for what I need... Mobile photo editing for on event photography playing movies during the downtime is great too.

Yep! it comes with a 320 Gig hd.However it I reckon it has 2 years of service and stuff like that.

You need to just watch how you do it. First, you are correct, Amazon won't ship it here. But here's the numbers I worked out . . .

799 US cost
0 US ship to friend in US
40 US expedited with US postal service
5 US brokerage fee (THATS why you use US Post instead of UPS etc)
843 US subtotal
891 CAD (todays rate 1 USD = 1.05705 CAD)
18 CAD (MC currency conversion fee)
45 CAD GST (I live in Alberta so no HST)
0 CAD duty - there is no duty on computers regardless of point of manufacture

954 CAD total
Ok theres one more catch. My friend declares it as a gift - you still have to declare the value but it may or may not come through without a GST assessment - especially at Christmas time. Theres a chance it could arrive for a total price of $909 CAD. If the dollar takes another spike the price comes down more.

So the only question is will I see it for less than $909 CAD before tax for sale in Canada in the forseeable future?

There is no customs/duty on any computers regardless of point of manufacture. I already checked into this here
http://www.aacb.com/tools/dutytax.asp (make sure to set your province to get the correct taxes). Add 2% on the CAD purchase price (but not the taxes) as this is the standard currency exchange rate for most credit cards.

GST/HST is unavoidable regardless of where you buy it. Brokerage fees depends on who you ship it with but whatever you do NEVER use UPS, their fees are excessive. US postal service is the cheapest at around $5, and from what I understand DHL includes brokerage fees in their shipping rate (but double-check this).

Yes, USPS is the way to go if you're lucky enough to have someone in the US to ship it to you. For the rest of us poor saps, we've got to get it re-shipped or wait for it to be carried by locals!

Unfortunately I don't have the equipment to test this right now. Namely, I don't have any HDMI cable... It seems some people are starting to receive their UL30VT though, hopefully they can help out.

Yes, the UL30VT will be available in most countries, though with a different product number. The ones I have seen starts with QX, so UL30VT-QX, try to input this in a search engine and see what it brings up for the UK.

 

Won't there also be state taxes for your friend in US?

I live in Vancouver BC. I'm planning on getting one shipped to a mail depot in Blaine Wa and picking it up when I go for a weekend getaway to Seattle. Just before checking out my cart on Amazon I see an estimated tax of $67.92us.

That was a GREAT HD vid, and now I'm convinced that this monster can chomp through any video! I'm even more stoked to get it!

I'm assuming that the external monitor was 1080p native. Is this a correct assumption?

Does anyone have videos of gameplay on the ul30vt, there are tonnes of gaming videos about other netbooks, ie. 9400m but none of the ul30vt. And this is designed with gaming in mind!

 

Give it some time> ION is not as new as the ASUS UL30Vt.

 

I almost clicked to order, even though I am not thrilled with Asus's treatment of customers problems as of late. I didn't because the ports just aren't as handy as the U81a or UL80vt. I like the 2 USB's and all the video and audio ports on the left side of the notebook as I tend to use a mouse on the right hand side of it.

Seems though this particular model is an awesome unit though. Asus needs to get their customer service in line with the majority of their hardware. My primary peev's as of late though;

1.) Treatment of customers with the UL30a-xx wireless problems in some series notebooks.......
2.) G51j BSOD issue is still not resolved and no real sence of urgency at this late point by Asus........
3.) Late/delayed driver disc's for the Windows 7 upgrades. At least, even if they didn't directly admit the delay is their responsabilty, they have a schedule.......

Now if Asus gets on the ball, maybe I can recommend this supposedly excellent piece of hardware to others................

 

I took the plunge and it shipped today. Can't wait any longer and besides I will probably drive myself nuts waiting for ASUS to get it right. This is everything I want with the exception of the battery. Colour is not a deal breaker for me. I will update with the final price (excluding GST/PST because that will vary by province).

No state taxes shipping to California from Nevada. Tax asessment varies by state tax rules for mail-order goods.
