Got it, thanks for the update, it helped to ease some anxiety.

Got the E-mail thanks for the update. I wish I could just go pick it up in Cali when they arrive I live so close.
Heck they will either drive by or fly right over my house on the way to Pennsylvania. I wonder how many people are ordering them and live in Fremont?
-
-
I ordered it but i live in SoCal. I used to live near San Jose before I went off to college. Yeah I wish they could just do a direct ship from ASUS to my apt. so that the shipping would be cheaper and wouldn't have to go back and forth across the country. Its ok though as long I get it undamaged i'll be happy.
-
I would rather wait a litttle longer and let it go through the propper channels, to ensure you recieved it, however painful the process may seem.
But hey nice thought!!
When shipments are split, items can often go missing, would not want my W3J to be swapped for a carton of smokes and a bottle of JD. -

... right, all of your Californians.... you'd also be paying sales tax if you picked it up in cali...... had an issue a couple years ago when we actually had asus drop ship a few things for us.... they had to charge us sales tax for orders shipping within cali and therefore it had to be added into our price.... so although I kno what you mean, it has to come here first and get sorted out.
-
So, the countdown begins.
Have fun guys -
Thanks for the update, Justin.

Depending on how anal IRS is going to get about use tax, we might end up having to pay the sales tax with a check come next april
-
how come proportable is selling the optional 1gig corsair 667 ram for so much? $120? Newegg has it for $89 + $5 shipping.
-
Newegg might be able to get it a lot cheaper in bulk.
-
yeah, take into consideration how much smaller of a company proportable is than newegg
-

We sell ram as a convenience item.... you certainly don't need to buy it from us, we use it for our custom systems and only offer it for people who want to buy extra ram for their systems - but for us we don't sell a lot of it in that fashion and we need to pull it out of our custom parts inventory to sell it.... That and we haven't had a problem with our corsair 667.... take a look at the issues their having with their customers.. We buy an average of 10-15 boxes a month, while newegg buys 100-150 boxes a month. Our ram can be $300 and if someone buys it, they buy it, but no one will shed a tear telling me that our ram isn't as low as newegg. Ram is usually something they sell under cost because it gets people to buy other products from them. Some companies can get a way with that and others just don't sell ram... but we've got it if you need it. -

Its ok Justin. Just say gooose fraba a few times exhale and inhale. There is no need to explain. Dragon does not understand the stupidity of his question.
-
I thought it was an innocent enough question.
That's NewEgg's gig - ProPortable's is to sell the laptops. -
At the end of the day its just the way it is..... prices will always differ between vendors, I always search out a bargin, this time I was happy to pay for the extra RAM from Proportable because I can get everything sorted and supplied in one delivery and in one bill.
Some times cheeper is not always better, when you have been mucked around before, customer service is worth a little extra -
Hey justin i know in the other W3J thread someone mentioned prices of the Core Duo's dropping will this effect W3J pricing later in the summer? as the prices are supposed to drop at the end of May
I am almost certain that i want to buy this laptop its just a little out of my budget... -
Usually Asus just refreshes their notebooks in order to keep it at the same price point, so i wouldn't expect the prices to go down for the W3J until the next W3 with a new chipset comes out. Most likely next year since the W3V came out around this time of last year.

Well, Asus is bringing these systems over with the 1.83ghz cpu instead of the 1.66ghz cpu initially to make up for that drop that is happening in June....... Most people take that as they are getting more then what they are paying for now.... but really this keeps people from complaining a couple weeks later when the cpus drop and Asus has 500 units that still need to sell......... and they finally get a chance to get new units back in sometime in July that match that price difference..... so I think this configuration is safe for the summer - even though that really doesn't help you much.

Asus told us not to expect the W3/W2's before the end of May as of this morning.
-
Sadly, I was expecting as much. Until there is confirmation that they've actually left I'm not getting my hopes up.
-
This is boardering on cruel.
Did they explain what the culprit was? -

Taiwan is simply a dictator in many respects...... They're seperate companies, yet they're tied together enough that Fremont can only do so much. They get confirmed orders and money...... then they build when they can... if it takes them longer or their is a hold up for any reason, all the President of Fremont can do is contact the head honcho in Taiwan.... and see what's up... that's it.
All advanced order customers got another email from me.... read it.. enjoy it... cry... whatever you think is appropriate. -
I'm not waiting any longer for this notebook. Over the edge-HARD.

Anyone who mentions a latitude in the context of comparing it to something like the W3, doesn't deserve the W3 in the first place..... I'd usually preface that with something like "don't take offense", but in this case, mentioning it as a replacement to a W3 is insulting to the computer itself. Since a W3 can't talk for itself, I figure I could help it.

Depends on how long you do it. What can you say...c'est la vie, no?

I think the disappointment is more in the many changed ETA's. But that's what ETA means in the first place. You would think they would give it a little broader range like instead of telling us end of may than changing it 2-3 more times just tell us we will get them sometime around christmas. That way when they come in November we will be happy. Before you jump all over me Justin for saying Christmas I am just being overly dramatic (Sorta).
-
I wish they'd decide to Airfreight the units at this point...at least we'd gain a few days or more?

Because of a delay, you'd get a civic over a gallardo? I'm for real, it just boggles my mind how anyone could understand what Asus has to offer and then buy something else, knowing full well that it's substandard compared to what they were waiting for. If you're in a time crunch, ok, whatever... but if you're just sick of waiting, honestly.... you don't deserve an Asus. 99% of this forum would agree with me if they took the time to comment.

Last comment on this.
I've been reading this forum for months. I'm no kid either. I don't know what kind of business you run but i gotta tellya, i'd NEVER buy anything from someone as arrogant as yourself. Some of soapboxing i've seen you do in here is just unacceptable and unbelievable. You didn't have the first clue why i might pass on this computer, but you ran your mouth any way. I'm in a time crunch. -
anyway!
on the proportable site, the product id for the w3j is W3J-H009P. But on the latest specifications, its W3J-H0017P. Is that just differentiation between shipments, or are they different configurations? -
-
I don't mean to beat a dead horse, but yeah... I'm sad about the delay. After hearing Justin talk about how great Asus laptops are, and seeing the specs for the w3j, I was quite willing to wait and get it. But that was two months ago, and unfortunately (with respect to this situation) I am leaving to Thailand in five weeks. I would soooo wait it out, but circumstances dictate that I must purchase now. Looks like I'll have to settle for Lenovo... ::sigh:: (or a cheaper Asus model, heh heh
)
Godspeed to all ya'll that are able to wait it out! Ya'll are gonna have a great computing machine! -

yo wait a min Jude24to25, you said you got 5 weeks left to wait. The W3J is expected in 15 days (2 weeks)
Unless im missing something.
Also im not sure if you know but the wait time for a Lenevo is sometimes 1-2 months!! eek: but not sure how they are now.
Anyways, i do suggest people to continue to wait if they can. This is gonna be one awsome laptop!
Thanks,

The answer is simple and that is that you can certainly not be worthy of a product if you can't appreciate why it's better than something else and how all of the little details differ. Just because you can afford something, doesn't mean you should own it.
The H017P and H009P really don't mean much... they're based on the configuration and it's a number that Taiwan gives to Fremont after they order, and basically the numbers in the middle are all that is really important to us. the 009 was the configuration number that Taiwan initially gave the US when placing their order. 014 was given recently, but changed in a couple days to 017. Asus insists this is the number it's shipping with, but the number doesn't really mean anything on paper besides that it'll corespond with numbers in Asus' system.
Asus really won't confirm, but I can try to show you why and how those numbers changed:
W3J-H009P - 1.66ghz cpu / 1gb x 1
W3J-H014P - 1.83ghz cpu / 1gb x 1
W3J-H017P - 1.83ghz cpu / 512mb x 2
But like I said, those numbers really mean nothing as Asus has confirmed what they're getting in their systems, it's just a matter of what configuration number Asus finally places that particular configuration into.. So the configuration is set, ordered and built (or at least that's what they say), but that number could come in as W3J-H444P for all I know and it doesn't change anything. -
Let's roll.

So as it stands, have they still yet to be built, shipped, what are we talking about? Just curious b/c the further we are in that process, the less likely we are to see delays into June. -
Guys, the end is near. If you're not waiting it out for Justin's efforts, then at least wait it out for an awesome laptop. I've personally been through 2 laptops in the past 3 months, and now the W3J - so I think my patience is being almost maxed out by now. If I can tough it out, so can you.
Go learn how to play the guitar or something. Go draw. Work out. Build a poker table - whatev. Take your minds off of this and enjoy yourselves. I've been way to OCD about the W3J, so in the meantime, I'm gonna relax, pick up something, and get good at it. -

The order went in on March 30th..... part of the shipment was going to be shipped mid April but was held up..... the order was then expanded on and more units were/are being built. Asus can't or hasn't confirmed a shortage of x1600 gpus, but if that is indeed the case... then it would help explain what's going on. Personally I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't get some W3's in with this W2 shipment, but I wouldn't count on it. On the flip side, a larger shipment is going to come in when it comes. The talk around the web has gotten many more people to call up and inquire about them.... Asus may have realized exactly what I told them.... they were seriously underestimating the initial popularity of it.

I won't be as blunt, but those who knew what they were getting into last month... will stick around a few more weeks [with us, G2P, or whatever]. We [and our fellow Engineering students] were more than just impressed with this model at the last showcase we had. Hang in there guys, it's well worth it.
-
I just won't be able to handle it if we're dealing with the same thing come June 1st.
-
The delay stinks. Yeah, it's been said before. I feel better now, though.
So sick of waiting, but like they say: you pays your money, you takes your chances.
All in. (Watching too much poker on tv.)
