if you think about it, it's already mid-May; and next week is nearly the end of May, so we only have about 2-3 more weeks of waiting. Besides there are other things you can look forward to while waiting for the W3J like, The Da Vinci Code Movie and X3. Well atleast i'm looking forward to those things other than the W3J.

Both of those should be pretty good... not to mention the next two to three weeks basically wraps up most of the big shows on tv too... the weathers getting nicer up here in the north east (or at least it was before this big storm).....

i forgot to mention "LOST" on ABC **** thats a good show, can't wait for the season finale. yeah weather in Southern California is good as well if you like really dry heat. where temps. range from 80-100 degrees celsius. I'm just sitting here typing and i'm already sweating. hopefully this heat doesn't mess up my w3j.

    ????????

You realize that 100 C is the boiling point of water right? If that were the real temperature everything (including you) would be dead.

I'm actually not happy that I read the book right now (even though it was a phenomenal read) because I know what's going to happen...I get hyped up when I see the trailer and then I'm like - oh yeah...I already know the beginning, middle, and end.

It's pretty cool that we're coming down the home stretch...I'm going to be stressing though if we don't hear that they're on the boat within the next couple of days, though the recent news of the a8j points to them being on the horizon I figure.

I can only find the presence of mind to echo coriolis on this.

Talk about tripping all over themselves for the N.A. market. The W3J issues maybe you can chalk up to a new product launch hitting snags, but at this point the list of missteps is only growing. And they've managed to piss off plenty of their resellers, which at the moment is their sole distribution channel in the largest PC market on earth. This product better kick ass b/c if there are problems with it somehow, they will have put a serious dent in their still nascent long term plans for the N.A. market.

80-100 Fahrenheit of dry heat is not that hot. Try 80-90 Fahrenheit of 100% humidity -- what genius decided to build our nation's capital on a friggin' swamp?? I'll take dry heat any day of the week.

Also, last summer I went to Egypt. Try 100-120 dry heat in the Sahara desert. Now THAT's hot.

it's usually the humidity that kills. Humidity causes sweat = no good. Dry heat is ok to a certain degree. =)

Not to be picky, but humidity keeps sweat from evaporating. Without evaporation, our bodies can't remove the heat, that's what kills. We still sweat in dry heat, it just evaporates very quickly.

Is there a reason why the w3j isn't listed on the NA Asus site? I see only the w3v. The A8jm has been up for ages- just wondering why no w3j.

They'll be here on Monday, so shipments should start on Tuesday for advanced order customers who were never voided out........ the reorders will probably on Wednesday and Thursday... and news orders starting today are probably Friday at the earliest.... I think we're going to put the following Monday on the site.

If you notice the W3 chassis essentially uses the battery as a "bamboo hinge" so it's pretty much integrated into the design of the notebook.. and since the W3J uses the same chassis as the W3V.. one would expect it to have the same bamboo hinge design..

Yea, why would they name it the 'W3(j)' if it was not a relative of the W3 series?

    It's like, naming the s96j 'V6h', doesn't make sense!

That, and the chassis is already being marketed in Europe and Asia. Why would they change it for the NA launch? Doesn't make much sense to me. I'm not sure I'll believe it until I see it.

... what am I to know anything about? Come on guys... it's been how long and it's obvious you guys haven't done your research because it's nothing special.. but it's also something that can't change...really. It's part of the design and the design hasn't changed.

The term.... is just speaking about the design of the hinge and battery location. The design sort of combines the two in what is considered to look like a bamboo hinge which is a primitive sort of hinge made with bamboo obviously..... It just happens to be one of the most obvious design features of the notebook.

All I can say is that a change in the way the hinge is designed means it's not a W3 model anymore. All demos were the same chassis....... there's really no way to change that. If there is a change that big, I would certainly expect it mentioned way before having two rams sticks instead of one....

So we can start ordering the W3j as of NOW correct? I'm not on advanced order. And since I'm ordering now and not an advanced order, I can get the NBR member discount?

Hey sorry to bother you guys, I had a question regarding the preorder. I ordered a w3j for my younger brother back during the first preorder. I used my Dads email address for the contact information. Well it looks like he never read his emails and so did not reply to the ones from proportable concerning the delay. Does this mean his order was canceled and I need to reorder? or was the email asking if he wanted to cancel? Thanks.

Email ProPortable back and see if you still have your order or not - it all depends on how early you ordered - basically if you were one of the firsts, then Justin already processed your order and you're in...if not, then your order was cancelled and you need to reorder.

Do so now as you still have your "spot" provided there wasn't a problem with your order in the first place (at which point it was probably cancelled and forgotten).

Without knowing who you are, it's pretty impossible to tell for sure, but I can give you an answer based one the information you gave above.

... you don't have an order. I can tell because from what you said, I never would have accepted that order for a few reasons. There's obviously too much going on.... one person ordered for another person and that person ordered using someone elses information. So, basically regardless of where you stood order number wise, the orders that were processed were from people who we were able to contact and allowed us to process their orders. A vast majority of people were voided just due to the delay because we were running out of time on their CC auth's and either needed to process them or void them and due to the delay we didn't want get stuck processing them and face another delay.... all of those people were also in contact with us. Anyone who didn't answer emails were probably voided a long time ago... the very least I can tell you is that there certainly isn't an order in at this point from anyone who didn't answer my emails.

If you got an email from me today, that means that you were in that last batch (maybe not responsive), but they were all voided anyway.... Anyone who had an original order id of 6031 or higher (with a few known exceptions) were all cancelled. So if you want to reorder, you'll be batched in the order you were before.

Don't worry.... It is the same as a W3V, I was in the UK 3 weeks ago and heald a W3J in my own hands and I have seen many pictures of the W3J, it is exactly the same chassis as the W3V although slightly darker and different track pad and buttons, but essentially it is the same shape and chassis design as the W3V (no protruding battery), maybe they changed something internally to fit new components in?? who knows??? but from the outside, it looks very much, if not identical to the W3V, although I personally like the new darker colour scheme.. it is top notch! you will not be dissapointed :D

PS: its my birthday on 3rd June :D :D :D

Just as an update, even though information is spread all over this forum... I might as well continue to post mine here. This is a note to some of you who never placed an order but want to know when there will be actual stock for you to buy.

In my estimation, we will be getting about 40 pieces a day for little while, so shipping breaks down like this:

    1. Orders that weren't voided (you know who you are) - shipping May 23/24
    2. Orders that were voided and reordered in the last few days - shipping May 26/29
    3. Completely new orders as of the last few days - shipping May 29/30/31...

Now, in my estimation, after all the voiding/reordering/delays/etc.... we've only got about 40 left.... some of those will go to some late reorders, but I gave all those customers until this evening to reorder....so they'll probably be about 30 left for new sales that aren't in yet. As everyone said, I don't think we have to worry about how long these are going to last.... we have to worry about making it another 3 weeks before the next shipment with no stock. So anyone looking for stock, there's still some that will not be accounted for and although we'll start shipping from here on the 23rd, all out our first shipment should be easily be shipped out before the end of the month.... so at the very latest, the person who orders the last of this shipment should have it in their hands by June 2nd....

Just in case people are reviewing this thread but not the other, the mixup about the design "change" was cleared up. The specs said "concealed" bamboo hinge (i.e., concealing the battery) but it was misread as "cancelled" bamboo hinge. So there is no reason to think there is any design change (and every reason to think there is none).

Do you guys think I should get or will want a screen protector - basically one of those pieces of material that you lay on the keyboard when you shut the lid?

I'm torn - I've had one PC where I had problems but it was old and I don't know if it's still an issue or if the W3j keyboard is raised enough to touch the screen when it's closed.
