W3J Advance Order Thread

holy ****, i'm am really excited about getting. My W3J next week. If i could go over to pennsylvania right now to pick it up from Justin i would but i can't because i live all the way in CA. We are actually finally going to get our W3J after 2 months.

 

newegg.com has them in stock.

Tempting, but I'm already on the proportable wagon with justin - What's another week?

 

^ "In stock" may mean - in transit to warehouse...then a few days to process (take stock).

If they just hit the Fremont site, I doubt they've been distributed, but what do I know. Maybe they're real close geographically.

 

Its likely they say they are in stock but they will actually ship them when they get them in a few days. They are located in Cali though.

 

Asus released out shipment yesterday..... most likely released other dealers shipments today in whatever quantities they may have ordered.... but we're in PA and obviously shipping to us takes a few days and a couple more when you figure in the weekend.... but regardless, everyone said they had them in stock weeks ago.. I'm not saying don't believe them, but I physically have tracking numbers for all of our units, so they're ours and technically part of our stock now even though they won't be in till Monday.

 

i'd go with newegg because i live in CA, but they don't offer the Asus extended warranty and the optical drive battery, which i hope will be shipped with my order from Proportable. Also I like the reputation that PROPortable has compared to other resellers.

 

if you live in California and order from newegg you'll be paying a fearsome amount of tax though.

I can't wait until N.A. dealer gets one in hand to confirm all is as expected (specifically HD speed). I'm not concerned, but that's the last piece of closure I need.

Quick run down of shipments based on order id......

First shipment arrived last night 5/18:
Friday 5/19 (5925-5950).

Second shipment arrives on Monday 5/22:
Tuesday 5/23 (5951-6000)
Wednesday 5/24 (6001-6050)
Thursday 5/25 (6051-6100)

Third shipment arrives on Thursday 5/25: (roughly a dozen left)
Friday 5/26 (6101-6150)
Monday 5/29 (6151-6200)

Forth shipment arrives on Wednesday 5/31: (30 unaccounted for)

At this moment, we only have 12 systems unaccounted for from this coming Thursday's shipment, so if you want a ship date before June, there are a dozen systems left. We also have a final guaranteed supplemental shipment arriving on Wednesday 5/31 of our last 30. Those will start shipping on Thursday, 6/1. The next shipment is roughly the third week of June.

Now, before anyone starts emailing me... there are some orders which higher numbers that were processed a long time ago.. I just want to let those people know that their ship date is probably on Wednesday. Also, due to a lot of cancelled orders, our order numbers were reset, so that messed with the exact dates on some orders as well.... but above is the best I can I estimate at this time and I'll have some more updates next week.... some orders may ship earlier and some may be delayed a day depending on the shipments. I know that the shipment for Monday is pretty well set, but the Thursday shipment might get in on Friday and push those back a day... but it might come in earlier as well.

... I'm fairly certain that everyone will be sold out before June... anyone who didn't think this was hot before... think again.

 

is the optical drive battery hot swappable? and thanks for the updates Justin

 

Asus has always listed their modular bays as "hot swappable", but they've rarely worked that way. I have problems when taking out the optical drive and putting in a hard drive... but never really any issue when swapping in a battery......... but I think most people make that change before the system is on anyway....... but even though asus considers it "hot swappable", we'll never make that claim because there are instances with all the systems where you might find a glitch.... it's probably mostly a windows thing, but regardless, if I see issues some times, it'll just stay being called a modular bay and that's it.

 

I've tried not bothering you Justin and been a good quiet customer ... but now I'm just itching to know ... will we get tracking numbers via email so we can be certain when they will be arriving? I've just had instances where my tracking number shows up after the item was delivered. So I wasn't sure how that worked. Will you or the delivery company be mailing out the tracking numbers, or should we not expect any? Just curious. Thanks for the updates!!!

I think I smell them up here in Rochester ... ooo the sweet smell of new laptop ... aaah! I just want to drive down and pick it up now!!!

 

Well, when we make up the shipping labels, FedEx sends them out... sometimes it's within a few seconds, sometimes it's when FedEx scans them into the truck...... and yeah, sometimes they show up after they get signed for (a lot of good that is).

Most of the orders that were processes a while back will probably even get a tracking number this weekend, or so as we know when those are going to out.... but I guess the short answer is.. yeah, you'll get them through email.

so ProP, u guys have 30 W3js that people can order now? Also for the next ship around third week of June, how many will you get?

Well, I think we've got 40 or so left that people can order. There were about 12-13 people who we cancelled out on our side who were expected to reorder but haven't yet.... but then we were able to allocate 30 more unit than we initially ordered a couple months back.... so there are at least 30, and if those left from the intial voided orders don't place new orders... there will be 10 or so more... But that last 30 isn't expected to ship from here till all of the advanced order and the orders that have already come in, go out... i think i posted the shipping dates on the last page.....

 

I was wondering. I was in the very original order that got canceled. Then I was in the second order and my order number is in the 6101+ now. My original order number from the first order was much lower than that, though I cant remember what number that was. Will I ship from that original order number? Is it possible you can look up that original order number and just pm me or something so I have an idea when I am going to ship?

 

How many days do you think they will take in transit to get to NH from PA? 1-2 days?

 

I don't know why I got so many emails back with people thinking that their ship date was based on older order ids, but it's not....... I guess I have to think about how I put things into words, because if I'm confusing that many people I must be doing something wrong.

.... we got a couple dozen in last night and those went out today to honestly not that many people (probably only half a dozen businesses and such with multiple orders). Most of the people I know from this site will start getting shipped their units on Tuesday and Wednesday, You have to remember that we only have the capacity to get out 40-50 a day and we had over 100 orders in the 18 hours of the advanced order.....

To answer the shipping question.. because it's common, I think everyone should pay attention, but 2 day shipping means that whether you live 3 hours from us or 3 time zones, you'll get it in 2 days. The only exception that I know of is that some 2 day shipments will get within a 2 hour radius of us in a day.... other than that, it's usually on the mark. Now if we were talking ground shipments.... west coast would take like 7 days and NH from here would probably take 2.

Would anyone happen to know the thickness of the W3J with the screen up? seems to be about 1.25in with it down *i hope*

Great news from ProPortable. I am sure hoping the ones that went out on Friday show up this week with reviews. I am interested in seeing what folks think about the NA version of this machine.

 

Is the ProPortable site not working for any particular reason? Any Asus Ensemble I click takes me to an error page.

 

They are updating the database. Just keep trying. When I click it, I get a page that says "we are currently conducting routine maintenance of our database server. If you have any questions, please contact [email protected] we apologize for any inconvenience."

I guess that clears that up...I got the same page at 1am on Monday. Busy, Busy!!!

 

Justin did mention the possibility of closing everything down over the peroid of the first shipment, so they could focus on turning the units around as quickly as possible.......?????

Sorry I haven't been around but I was busy this weekend renovating my koi pond and taking a break from these damn computers..... then Monday and so far this morning have been a real pain..... The good news... as a lot of you have posted, is that we got out nearly 3/4 of our advanced orders already and all orders up to Wednesday of last week are out as of noon today.

We're clean out of the W3's right now, but the 3rd shipment is arriving on Thursday and there are still a handful of available systems. On Friday, we're getting out 4th shipment and there are still 30 some in there that aren't taken.

About the site...... that was actually on purpose and by accident at the same time. I did say that we'd need to close things down when these came in, but at the same time a few raid cards died in our servers and we were plum out of them. I think they're getting fixed today, so I apoligize for not mentioning it before........ but it was unplanned, yet really didn't bother us any.

 

I hate to be a pain, but the W3j page is saying it's a W3v

Just want to be sure before I place an order for the W3j.

Vlad.... I realize via email, many weeks ago, you wanted to take an item off your order and I just never caught it. I apoligize for sending it to you anyway and having you send that part back, but you were already credited for it and I'm not sure what else I can say - other than the fact that I'm surprised that was my only screw up out of all of these orders.. and it was a pretty small one... I'm sorry nonetheless.
