They usually won't just leave a package at your door without specific instructions to do so. They'll leave a tag on your door if no one answers, and say they're coming back at such and such a time, usually the next day, or else you have to go to the depot and pick it up.

    You'll have to sign...

And you definately DON'T want a $2000 laptop waiting for you or anyone else who comes to your house, waiting on the front steps.

    That's bad mmmkay.

Yeah, part of our shipping cost is an adult sigature.... if you can't prove who you are, you don't get the package..... any customer who doesn't like that, really doesn't understand the amount of fraud in this industry and the fact that Fedex will usually let your neighbor sign for a package and in this day in age, neighbors are often the people we don't trust the most.... so we employ the highest level of security from order to delivery...... yes it costs more, but YOU are going to get YOUR package....

I don't know... you mean the 2nd day of shipping. 4/23 is a Sunday... so I can't promise you anything... we're expecting to ship during the week of the 16th.. so the 17th to the 21st are likely.. if we get them on thursday the 20th.. the first shipment would be on friday the 21st... the 2nd on Monday the 24th.... if we get them on Friday....... we're looking at Monday the 24th as the first day of shipping.. right now there is too much up in the air...... everyone should have them in their hands before the end of the month as long as they don't get caught up in customs..

All shipments go out with adult signature required..... that means someone I believe 18 years of age or older with proper ID that you live or work at that address is required........ Then again, if you know your FedEx driver and get regular deliveries, it's much easier, but technically they're supposed to ask for your drivers license or something. But basically it's for proof of who they left the package with.

I wouldn't be too concerned. As was stated before, as long as there is an adult there to sign for it, the package will be OK. The only issue will be if noone is there at all, which is just inconvenient, and not truly a problem.

I placed my pre-order today for an Asus W3j. I called first and talked to Justin's brother. He was friendly, very informative and helpful. Justin you have a great family run business and I look forward to purchasing many more computers from PROPortable over the years to come.

I guess you could consider it family run... About four family members are in some way involved in this business and a few others that are life-long friends of the family and a few school mates from college... I'll pass that message on to Sean.

    ... and we're spent......

Our first allocation is officially sold out. As soon as I get more information on a supplemental shipment or the possibility of buying out one of the distributors allocations or something like that.... I'll have the page opened back up with a new ETA, but right now this one is closed.

Everyone, with any lucky, should have their W3j's in hand sometime prior to the end of the first week of May..... that seems like worst case at this point, but we've got to see what happens with customs.....

There are still some W2j's left out of the allocation, but the $50 promo ends tonight at midnight eastern.

I guess that's what I'm saying, but that's the best ETA at this point... Right now, Asus Fremont was expecting the shipment to arrive at port sometime within the week, however Tiawan never actually confirmed the shipment yet...... so we're a little up in the air, but we do know that they've been built and were supposed to have shipped last week.....

We have a best case senerio of delivery to customers sometime in the 3rd week of the month (don't bet on it)... we have a likely delivery during the last few days of the month..... and we have a worst case (based on the current ETA) of delivery during the first week of the month.

So currently..... try to follow....... given the current ETA (which is an estimate in and of itself), we have a worst case delivery to the customer timetable of say a month from today........ If Taiwan contacts Fremont and says something like the W3 and W2 missed the boat last week - then we're looking at adding a bit of time........ but if everyone crosses their fingers and toes and do any kind of little dance you know.... we can try to get through this together and hope nothing else happens.

Although the delay is somewhat disappointing, the W3J is certainly worth the wait, and at this point another few weeks won't really make that much of a difference. Glad I ordered early, though, as I'll definitely have the laptop before school starts :)

Justin, as always thanks for the updates, greatly appreciated!

Yeah, I did the numbers this afternoon and I think there may be 8-10 people who we can't satisfy from this first order. Our allocation was cut by nearly 50 units as Asus needs to get some more units up to Canada... so perhaps Danny at CanadaSys will be getting more earlier than Canada usually gets stuff.

So when does it go on normal sale?
and, I'm hoping once that happens, the usual ASUS forum member discounts will apply?

Well technically the release date was set for the week of the 16th, but if we sold out of them, the release for normal sale would be when the 2nd shipment comes in..... that is 2-5 weeks (2 is normal - 5 is what we're seeing with the 2nd shipment of the V6j).... so unless we can get a supplemental shipment somewhere in between, we're probably looking at May before they're in stock to the point where someone can order it and it ship the next day from here........ and yes, there was a special $50 promo on the advanced orders - but discounts other than that couldn't be used (to help ease the difficulty or processing all of them at one time), but the normal discounts will apply once they get in stock...

By tomorrow I'm going to contact the straglers on the list who we may not be able to accommodate and then set up a 2nd backorder for the second shipment...... I have made Asus aware that we're already at our limit and if that can help bring the next shipment in a little faster, or somehow manage to secure us some more, then it's all good news.... we'll see what happens.

Very simple reason.... I'm dumb enough to put up the BS that an advanced order creates..... We also pay for a certain allocation far in advance, so we know about how many are coming in. Unfortunately, now we're sold out...... so on release day, we're not going to have any stock.... and everyone is going to be looking for them......... those who were lucky enough to get some stock - won't have it for long.... so most likely they'd just like to wait and see what they get and it'll be gone in a couples days after they mention it......

Advanced orders really can be - and in our case - are a lot of work..... imagine a few hundred people asking if there are updates on delivery - or why have you run out - or what's up with this...... it's honestly a pain, and really only worth it if you end up with stock upon release... because that's the day that everyone really goes out to order them.....

As Justin said, it can be a difficult and convoluted process, and there certainly can be a greater headache with so many people asking questions - believe me, I've been one of those, and Justin has been nothing but helpful, professional, and just a darn good guy about the whole thing. I give him credit for his willingness to accommodate so many of us, and it's really a testament to the added value you get from picking a good reseller.

They only take pre-orders through their forums. Not sure if they're all filled. Judging from the interest Justin has experienced, you might expect something similar at Canadasys.

Don't get me wrong - sales are sales....... but it's only through advanced orders that this forum produces any substantial business... and although it's a lot of work and my guys tell me if I want to run one, go ahead, but there isn't enough time in the day to answer all the advanced order questions without customers looking for in stock items getting the put off..... So, I don't really mind taking over in sales for this period, but I still have other work to do at the same time, so those who know me know that I'm especially busy during this period.

Like I said.. a sale is a sale and I'm glad at least once a year my work here is some what repaid..... but for the other 11 months of the year, I'm asked why I waste me time here........ so whatever....... it's mainly done to help some of the forum fiends to get their fix and know there's a guarenteed system for them. They can stop asking questions for the most part (like when's it coming in... when can i get in line, blah blah)...... but basically the only thing I hate is that after all the hoopla, we're already sold out and won't have any upon release...... and let me tell you... last year we sold as many on release day as we have taken in advanced orders and basically that means we're either SOL or hopefully people will understand and accept a backorder for a few weeks... it's the least they can do for trying to hold out...... and hopefully it teaches people a lesson that we're doing this more to help them than ourselves... infact, this is just me, not even the company.... Everyone else knows how much of a pain in the butt these are, and I'll take on more work just to get everyone to shut up and sit tight...... :) Regardless, if last year is any indication (about 95% of the w3v advanced order customers let the forum once they recieved their system)... then this forum is going to lose a lot of posters.......... naturally people go back to their normal lives and don't post anymore... so we may see a serious lull in posting once the w3's stock is healthy and people aren't really looking for it anymore.... Honestly, all those people with the units are the best salesman /women as they use it everyday. People came in the forum last summer and said the w3 must not be popular because no one was posting had one...... well, like I said, they go back to their lives.... So not posting about it is almost one of the best things, but it's hard to get people to believe that.

there's definitely a lot of truth in what you're saying. i know that when i'm looking for a cell phone i'm all over howard forums and mobileburn and mobile-review and similar sites. but after the initial honeymoon period, that's when people just enjoy the product for what it is and only make occasional stops by the forum to contribute something or to find out about the newest firmware or something. or to *****...can't forget about *****ing. hopefully, all the w3 users will at least stop by occasionally and be able to help out others with questions or tips.

True... but anyone who's been around for a year or so knows that this forum has turned over 3-4 times at LEAST - with the exception for maybe a half dozen of us........ it's really sad because after a product comes out, the only people who post about it are those who are pissed off about something......... if you get into double digits on complaints on an Asus system in a DEDICATED Asus forum- that's amazing..... but we've got 1,000's of people who buy them and 10's of 1,000's of people in the US who have them.... I can only imagine what W3 sales during the summer and fall would have looked like if 1/4 of the forum members who bought them actually stuck around....... that word of mouth advertising is priceless...

You are, of course, assuming we HAVE lives to get back to. If that was true of me I would probably have bought an HP and hurried along my way. As it is, I just don't have anything else to do.... Not that I'm complaining, since I'll soon have a most excellent way of wasting the tons of precious time available to me. Point in fact is, 'Where will I go? What will I do?' (movie...anyone? anyone?) I may not know much, but I'm just bored enough to stick around. (I can hear the excitement already, no no everyone, calm down)

Would be interested to know how many units you solld and does it set any presidence for sales. how does it comparee to other releases and do you think you can get more units for the next shipment to ensure the demand is met?

I just found out I missed out with the first shipment but will wait willingly for the second, but I wonder how many other people get fed up with waiting and buy other laptops??

If I wasnt such an ASUS fan...........

That's basically just how it goes. The people who really want a particular laptop will be willing to wait for it, others simply bail out for whatever reasons they have.

On the sticking around note, I'll definitely be sticking around - or trying to, at least. I've learned a lot from being here, and I've got a level of confidence in the members that I'd have to re-cultivate at a different forum. Although I'll have significantly reduced free time once school starts, I'll try to be as present as possible :D And hopefully I'll get a chance to put up some positive Asus comments and reviews to offset the naysayers

Naysayers? waitaminute .. you mean there are ASUS naysayers? wow .. i guess you just can't satisfy some people..

and about the forum dying down .. heh, yeah, i've seen how that goes. The same happens on a lot of the camera forums i frequent .. I stayed after buying my camera, to trade tips and pictures, and hopefully point some people towards nice cameras.. but many don't ever return after they get what they want.

I didn't want to start a new thread, so does anyone know what specific hard drive the W3J is coming with...I can't remember if It's been mentioned or not...I want to know the make and model if possible...is it an ide/pata drive or a Sata drive??? If It's PATA, does anyone know if the W3J is SATA compatible?

    Thanks in advance :)

So i jumped on the bandwagon and got in on the first shipment of the W3J from proportable. I registered so i could post and see what eveyone else thinks of this beautiful machine. I plan on doing a complete and full review when i get my W3J from proportable. Stay tuned!

One thing I would like to know is....

If the W3J has a darker chassis, does this mean when we buy accessories like the second HDD case, second battery (that goes into the multibay) they will be a different tone.

I just noticed that on Proportable's web site, these accessories were listed as W3V/J.

    But will the colours match?

Yeah true, just being picky and as long as its not glaringly different, would be ok. I notice the W3A models were quite light in colour.
