yay :) hehe ok soo all i have to do is part 4 over again ?
    which is this part right

Part 4 - Installing the new drivers!

Ok now we are all done and back in Windows, its time to install the new modified 9.4 drivers onto the video cards.

Prerequisite: Have the stock Asus drivers already installed on the system, we are only updating the video card drivers, but will keep the old ATI control panel so it needs to be installed.

1.) Install the Included 9-4_vista64_win7_64_dd.exe to the default directory and exit out of the installer when it comes up, you will not install anything via the regular installer.

2.) Copy the ATI Folder located in the Modified .INF folder over the top of your ATI folder located on the C: to replace the original .inf files with the new ones.

3.) Get into your Device Manager (I usually click the windows start button, right click on "Computer" go to properties, and then click on "Device Manager")

4.) Right click your 4870X2 display adapter (the first one is the one I use) located under the tab "Display Adapters" Choose "Update Drivers"

5.) Choose "Browse my computer for driver software"

6.) Choose "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"

    7.) Choose "Have Disk"

7.) Navigate to the directory where the modified .INF files are located for your driver (C:/ATI/Support/9-4_vista64_win7_64_dd/Packages/Drivers/Display/LH6A_INF/) is the default for the included drivers.

8.) Choose the 2nd card name/option and the drivers should install.

That is it, if the card name changes for both cards (it should) your all done! If the 2nd card name did not change follow the steps above again for the 2nd card also.

If you have a reason to do it, put it on a flash drive and use the Asus EZFlash utility in the bios.

Did anyone manage to use the HDMI output after the flash/drivers 9.4 ?

The CCC sees my TV, I'm in a good resolution, I can clone/extend/switch to the TV but the TV doesn't receive any signal.

In VGA, it's a bit better : I can switch to my TV and the screen goes black if I use a 3D software in fullscreen (it works windowed).

Works fine with flash/drivers 9.4 on my 50 inch Plasma.

But for the first time, you must press "Alt" and "Enter" together, when you are
in the windowed mode.( on ccc "clone the desktop")

    greetings from germany

I get 11580 points Gpu Score on 3DMark Vantage with the 9.4 drivers.
    With QX9300 @ 3 GHz and 600_900 on HD4870x2.

With the old driver from Asus I get 10380 points Gpu Score, 1200 points less.

But with the 9.7 drivers I get on a single HD4870 6669 Gpu Score on 600_900.

So let use bring the 9.7 drivers do work in crossfire.

It works very good with HDMI, so I don't test VGA.

What should the driver tab say in Hardware manager once the cards are flashed and new drivers installed?

    I have got 8.600.0.0

    E-wrecked Bored Mod v4

    That correct?

If so then it went as smoothly as a babies bottom for me.

I used this back in the day, and I mean, the 9.4 drivers are great, but there have been a number of updates which would be nice.

So I was wondering if any updates to the ATI drivers have been made to work with this method.

Or if anyone has enough know-how to make them compatible, they could explain the process, and let myself or another do the foot work.

Have no clue, and this guide is now updated to the new version 3 - http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=437019

Version 3 is definitely for the W90 only as it incorporates a system bios change.

Hey guys, maybe you can help me. When I go to flash the new VBIOS on the second card I get the 0FL01 error with adapter not found error. IT IS NOT DISABLED IN THE SYSTEM BIOS. Already checked that. It doesn't see it in the windows device manager either.

I can flash the primary adapter just fine but it can't find the secondary. I've tried the programs and files from all the different limitbreaker versions and installed the modifed BIOS and it simply will not find the second adapter.

So have you guys ran across this before or have I borked my laptop secondary card???

Thanks for the reply but as I stated I already tried that!

    ***EDIT***

I also found this so that error could mean different problems:

My problem is that the second adapter isn't found at all!

OK....the problem with the second adapter not being found was a hardware issue that I solved. All is right again and I was able to update the vBIOS on the second card. I also was able to use the mobility modder program on the 9.12 cats and install fully functional with Xfire support.

    Thanks for the awesome package!

Your welcome. I was starting to think it had to be hardware based.

Was it turned off in the bios? or was it just not seated properly?

CDN_BiggDogg I am having the exact same issue as you had!
I am thinking it must be hardware related.
How did you fix this proiblem?

It might have been self induced as I replaced the stock thermal cmpound with arctic silver. When I removed the heatsink a second time the arctic silver may had bridged to the surounding resistors on the master vcard when I reinstalled the heatsink. The heatsinks are a real pain to remove and replace especially on the master vcard!!!!

I ended up removing both cards.....cleaning them up real well and reapplied the arctic silver and was much more attentive when reinstalling the heatsinks. After the reinstallation I booted with the USB stick and ran the command "ATIFLASH -i" which lists all the adapters detected. Before the reinstall it would only find adapter 0 and after it found both 0 and 1.

It could have been the thermal compound or just reseating the cards. (BTW I had tried reseating just the slave card which didn't help). I also reseated the crossfire link ribbon cable on both cards. I'm not sure which cured the problem but I was knee deep so I covered everything!

This is not a project for the faint of heart or the less than knowledgable in the computer hardware department. Laptops are extremely confined spaces and small intriquet parts. I've been building desktop systems since 1996 and have always been riding the "bleeding edge" of hardware. This is my first laptop and as I discovered even experienced people have to be extremely carefull!

Ahh yeah i always warn about that, this is one reason I use ICD now, not only does it cool just as good or better than AS5 but its non conductive.

Arctic silver was always the good choice but that's been a long time ago now. What's ICD?

    Innovative Cooling Diamond

its basically grounded up diamond paste :D diamond is way more thermally conductive than silver and its non electrically conductive.
