    Hey Justin,

I know this is a bit off topic, but I'm still really curious...In an earlier forum when you told us about the bad news with no ensemble W1 coming, you mentioned that there would most probably be a barebone coming. I guess you can't be sure, but do you have any idea when it would be released? Christmas time perhaps? Would the barebone still have a colorshine screen and tv tuner with the x700? The current W1 with the rebate is very enticing, but since I can wait until the end of the year it might be worth the wait.

    Thanks in advance.

    Steve

Hey Fenderboy, how come you don't want to get a w2 instead. it's really slick notebook. I'm about to do a review soon.

    Steve,

No.. this is actually a little more on topic, wouldn't you say? Anyway, yes I said this and I'm going to have to get another update this week as far as what's really going on... I still haven't gotten a great explaination as to WHY the W1v ensemble was cut, other than what I said. If all holds try, no ensemble means that a barebone W1 would again be an option.

We already know that a barebone W2 won't come in the same exact form as the ensemble will come in..... but eventually we will get a 17" widescreen w/ x700... most likely I think it'll be a Turion model.

As far as a barebone W1 though... I think it would be here by the end of the quarter if at all and it's something I could probably give everyone a 90% yea or nah on before the end of the week.

    Thanks for the fast reply.

I would strongly consider purchasing a W2, I just want to see the reviews first. If there isn't a significant price difference then the W2 would be a fantastic notebook...I just don't think I need the 17 inch LCD...15.4 is already big. Both notebooks are on the cards....Thanks again

You're looking at $2,700 for the w2... that's basically been set already.

There are still some W3's from what we'll be shipping on Friday that are still available. Once those are gone, the next shipment we'll see will be on Tuesday which means shipping from us on Wednesday the 13th..... still plenty of time to get that extra rebate as the invoice just needs to be dated on or by the 15th....... but the rebate is coming to a close.

    Just a PAS I guess......

Don't count on that just yet....... it hasn't been confirmed..... Asus has asked a half dozen times if we'd rather slot load that's only 8x dual format....... or tray load 8x dual layer...... I'm for slot load becasue dual layer discs are still crazy expensive and slot is something new to us as far as the laptops go..... but they haven't confirmed anything...

hope this is an ok place to post, since we are on the topic of bonuses for buying the w3v.

does the extended 3 year warranty come included in systems bought in Canada? I can't seem to find the exact info for this, I just recall seeing it mentioned. Also, do I need to apply for the bonus year?

It's ok to post that... good question, but one answered a lot time ago and on Asus site.... NO.

It's good in canada if you buy from a US dealer who is good for it....... but you can't get it from a Canadian dealer.... and yes you have to email asus a copy of your invoice from a participating dealer.

How does the rebate work? If I buy the notebook from you now, have it shipped internationally (i live in NZ), receive a receipt, apply for the rebate from Asus... how do they pay me? By cheque?

Ok thanks for the quick reply! Oh well, I was hoping us Canadians could get some love, but apparently not yet. I wish I could convince others to buy my laptop from the states, but convincing that the Asus brandname is the laptop for me was a big enough comprimise, so I guess I will have to settle buying from a retailer here  ... oh well the ensemble notebooks are all the same, so at least I get the model I wanted

The warranty, yes... you can get the extra north american rebate no matter where you live if you buy from a US dealer.. but if you live away, it's not going to do you much good without sending it back to the US.

Rebates are always only US rebates.........

This rebate is down to it's last 3 days. I know many people have called wondering where this link is, so I figured I'd bump it back to the front page.

Just curious as to whether the upc code is the same for all machines or if each one has a specific one. The rebate requires one and has one listed at the top but that almost seems too easy...just checking

.... you also need an invoice from a dealer and that upc code is most surely just for the use of demonstration.
