Does anyone know if this laptop is available in Hong Kong? I'm currently visiting and hoped I would be able to pick one up here for less than what I would back in rip-off England.... and if it is available in Hong Kong, does anyone know where from?
-
Have anyone seen any reviews or have any knowledge about the touchscreen they will use? I am waiting for the touchscreen version (feb 6th in Norway) in Norway, but is a bit worried if the screen will be very glossy.
-
I live in the UK and I would like to get the 512GB SSD version - Does anyone know who stocks this? I've seen it on Amazon and PC World but both appear to only offer the 256GB SSD?
Is this version even being released in the UK?
Does anyone know the UK / European Model number for the 512GB version? -
I can now see that the delivery date for touchscreen in Norway is moved for February 6th to April 3rd
That must mean that the release date for touchscreen is moved worldwide, or does anybody know a delivery date for touchscreen version in other countries?
-
It seems that the price is rapidly dropping on Amazon.de:
Asus Zenbook UX51VZ-CN035H 39,6 cm Ultrabook: Amazon.de: Computer & Zubehör
Asus Zenbook UX51VZ-CN036H 39,6 cm Ultrabook: Amazon.de: Computer & Zubehör
In two months the 256GB model has lost 130€ -
Unfortunately, as far as we are aware, there is no 512gb UK model, meaning you will have to look for something like the ux51vz-cn036h, which is the european 512gb model, and has a german(?) keyboard, or the ux51vz-xh71, which is the american model, which of course has an american keyboard. The keyboards are the only real difference, and if you can adapt to a different keyboard you should be ok. Best of luck!
-
Allthough some countries report having touch already, There is no official news, however, data on asus's own website suggest that the panel will be 1366x768, and glossy. This is not definate though and it is possible, likely even, that a 1080p touch panel will be availible. I also think that the screen will be no more glossy than most touchscreen devices, so you should be ok so long as you avoid direct sunlight.
Take this with a grain of salt, much of it is speculation on my part -
i am seeing similar behaviour with the U.S 512gb model, down ~200$, but no change to the 256gb model.
-
Good to know. To be honest, 1500€ is more adequate for the value of the machine.
FYI, Asus Italia just confirmed me on Twitter that UX51 will be available in Italy in mid February...
Guess I have to read more about the Samsung then, since I am forced to wait another month :banghead:

Beautiful! Hopefully this model will be available elsewhere too.

Where can I get the UX51VZ w/ 256MB SSD & touchscreen in the USA?
-
Hi,
Can you shortly explain how to go back? Wether WinFlash nor EasyFlash from BIOS let me do so, both tell me about 203 ist too old to flash. Have i missed a switch or something like this? -
lovelaptops MY FRIENDS CALL ME JEFF!
I don't think you can yet. Asus can be annoyingly slow to bring new models to different markets. They tend to roll them out in Asia, then go to Europe or the US, as long as 6 months later. Doesn't mean I'm not wrong here. Just going by the posts of others I have recently read. -
Sure, first let me remind you that using this option you are able to flash a lot more then you should. Also maybe corrupted files or files not suitable for your computer. Please reminder to take a good look if you have an A model or not.
If you've done that and are convinced you wish to proceed, you can use "WinFlash /FORCE" to disable these checks. Worked perfectly for me. -
Thanks for your reply. Surprised this is the case. Unfortunately my search for the beefier 512 model has meant Amazon seem to have run out now
Sadly means I have to buy something from PC World
-
Has anyone tried a /force on the ux51vza with the 205 ux51vz bios?
-
Just by the fact that the non-A BIOS has a different file size would make me very wary of trying to force it.
-
Amazon and PCWorld in the UK is now £250 off. Maybe the updated version with touchscreen is coming soon.
-
or maybe sales are not so good...
-
PC World says it has the i7 3517u LVU processor, is this accurate?
-
No, only full voltage CPUs

At least here in the Netherlands, the U500's have seemingly sold out recently, so that would not suggest slow sales. It is possible, however, that Asus has under-supplied our country in general. It was similar for UX32A/UX32VD models here as well.
-
Just a quick warning to anyone planning on dual boot: I've been trying to get it working for two days and I still don't have an end in sight ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...00vz-ux51vz-owners-lounge-56.html#post9054722).
I'd love to comment on the laptop itself, but so far my experience of it has been spent split between the BIOS, Windows 8 and Ubuntu installation screens, and the Windows 8 BSOD. The machine itself is quite pretty though
.

Hi all, just got my ux51vz-xh71, and noticed that there are 2 drives in explorer, is this normal?, how can I check if raid is enabled?
-
This is correct. There are two drives, one for the OS and one for "Data". The raid should be up and running even if they divided the space into two partitions. Dont worry.

Yep, this system has a GPU socket and the ULV CPUs are soldered so you wont find systems using both kinds. -
What about ux52? That's pretty much ux51 with ULV cpu. The only difference being Geforce 645 instead of 650.
-
Most probably because this model is expensive in general, many people go for the cheap HPs in PC World. I got mine from them with the £250 off, works great, no issues.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
If it's ULV it will be soldered, if not it's likely socketed. -
Anyone else getting BSOD's now and then? Maybe had it 6-7 times since I got it in November.
DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION
I tried to analyze the minidump, and it only pointed at ntoskrnl.exe with error code 0x133.
If anyone is interested I can provide a minidump file.
I'm sure this is a software issue but I want to confirm if anyone else is getting it on this laptop
Edit: forgot to add the fact that this bluescreen exclusively (as far as I can remember) only happened when I open the lid after it has been asleep. -
I can confirm this issue.
-
Really? So you have received some BSOD's when you open the lid after sleep? If this is true, it's a good thing since it means that it's probably a software(driver) issue.
-
I re-installed windows 8 on the laptop when it came and I open en close the lid (And thus suspend and resume) at least 10 or 20 times a day and have never seen this issue, it works flawlessly for me. I actually only reboot when needed for patches and that's easily 2 or 3 weeks apart for me.
So maybe a driver or tool that is active in the original Asus installation? I can at least assure you it's not a hardware bug. -
Thank you a lot for confirming this. Yes, I assume it's something that comes with the default install or some driver that I have not updated. It annoys me that I cannot reproduce the problem and therefore conclude if I found a solution or not
It does not happen often.

Hi there...I've been trolling these forums for the past few months looking for any info I could find for my next laptop purchase and I'm extremely pleased with the wealth of info I have found. You guys are awesome!
Had a question regarding the Zenbook...do any owners here run heavy graphical programs like cs6, maya, etc...? I'm looking for a mobile solution since I take the train daily but would like a powerhouse that would allow me to animate and work post effects in after effects. Have any owners run these programs on this bad boy and if so...how does it measure up? It's either this or the elite book for me...but personally 4lbs sounds so much better and the Zen looks so much slicker! Any help would be extremely appreciated! -
With the horse power in the machine, there is no way photoshop or maya would be other than rapid and snappy when working in it (I have not tested it myself though). The big backside with this laptop combined with photo/video editing is that the screen does not reproduce 100% correct colors, especially red can become a bit orangy (but not nearly as bad as that "orangegate" on sony vaio s15). As a guy who is not into photo editing and graphics, I do not even notice this unless I make a comparison with another screen like my phone. I dont know how much you demand though!
-
Thanks for hittin' me back! Honestly, the color being perfect is a non issue...I'd be using the Zenbook to create anims and assets based on already approved color and textures. Not to mention im not planning on rendering from this guy so I should be okay in that regard. My biggest concern is the machines ability to run the software without skipping a beat. Most 3D folks will tell me that I MUST get a machine with a quadro card, but I've seen wonderful results with a high end gaming card so I was curious how the 650 holds up?
-
I read somewhere that the difference between Quadro cards and regular Nvidia cards lies mostly within the driver, and there are ways to make the Quadro driver run with regular Nvidia cards afaik. It should run fine!
If you tell me what application I should test and what scenario you want me to test it in, maybe I can get some time over and test it for you
-
I don't know if this has been posted or not but it's the first review of touch screen version I have seen.
U500VZ Touch -
For Canadians, I just got the ux51vz-dh71 from ncix.com for cad$1599 with a free 1tb external. I was thinking about waiting for the series 7 chronos but I think at 1599 the Asus is too good to pass up. I guess the touch model on the horizon drove the price down. Keep an eye open it may get cheaper from other retailers as well. Mine will arrive tomorrow. Looking forward to playing with it.
-
Nice! I'm actually heading back to Canada in the next few weeks and was considering buying from memoryexpress, last time I checked NCIX wasnt selling it. Regardless memoryexpress has even better prices than amazon.com. The 512 gb model is $1999 cdn. We'll see what happens after they start selling the touch model.
-
I just picked it up this morning. It is a gorgeous machine. Build quality is great, I was worried about some of the problems people reported with trackpads not being flush and fans being loud, both are fine on mine. I cant hear the fan at all with the background noise in my apartment. The screen is beautiful and the keyboard is solid. Trackpad is not so great out of the box, but I just need to find where to adjust the sensitivity or change the driver.
I would have liked the 512gb version but I cant justify the price increase to get it. Either way I planned on getting a portable drive to go along with it. Getting one for free was the icing on the cake.
Windows 8 is taking some getting used to but I don't think its as bad as a lot of people make it out to be. I'll do a clean install when I decide how I want to configure everything. Very happy Asus owner
-
Wow, it's great to see that the prices are coming down! Has anyone seen the 512 gb model available in the US for a similar price?
-
So any idea on release date for US yet? I'm hoping that maybe at MWC they will announce it.
-
Some European sites announcing that the release of the touch version is imminent:
Asus ZenBook Touch U500VZ-CM040H, 1999
Výkonný ultrabook s dotykovým displejem stojí 45 000 korun – Novinky.cz
The 2nd link above seems to indicate stock will be available in weeks (I'm reading through Google translate) -

Hello guys,
I am looking to buy this computer. However, I am confused with model numbers that are all over the internet. For example: B&H Photo Video Digital Cameras, Photography, Camcorders is selling UX51-Vz-DH7 model, where in some website this model is shown as UX51-Vz-DH7/U500Z.
Now, you guys are taking about U500VZ model that is available in Europe or being released soon with or without touch screen version.
Could you please explain the model number convention and differences?
Should I purchase UX51 or wait for U500VZ model non touch or with touch.
The idea is to get latest version of hardware that would hopefully solve trackpad and noise fan issue.
Please advice -
Hey guys, I went ahead and bought the 512gb model and having an odd issue with the battery. I plugged it in and let it charge for 3 hours even though I know most electronics these days come with partial charges. I turned it on, windows 8 booted up fine, but then I noticed the battery icon and it went from "plugged in and not charging" to "no battery detected"...
I thought this to be a driver issue or something funky with windows not recognizing whatever, so I went to move to the couch to search for such said solutions. When I unplugged the power cord, it just shut off. Completely! Never seen anything like it before...
Has anyone had this issue on their Zenbook, and if so...how did you fix it? -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Well if it does not detect the battery when you pull the cord out it has no power so it will shut off...
