Desktop Boards — Single- and multi-channel memory modes
I can't find reference to this asymetric dual channel mode. I am not sure even how that would work when you think about it...
As a power user (=lot of heavy programs running at the same time) 8GiB is still enough for me. I don't use Office so maybe that's making the difference[/QUOTE]
I agree 8GB is good. But just have about 10 chrome tabs open, Outlook, and fire up Lightroom and check your ram usage![]()
-
The regular use (by most ppl) will not use up 8gb. It's a different story all together if ur using it for a specific purpose like manipulitaing psb files in photoshop. Thats just one example, depending on what u use it foreven 10 or 12 gb might not be enough. I wish both slots were user upgradable to a max of 16...
-
Intel calls it flex mode. Dual channel for the matching part and single channel for the rest, for 12GiB memory 8GiB will use dual channel and 4GiB will not. In most cases single channel mode isn't a problem as it still provides a high bandwidth: ~12GiBps. Things that doesn't use much memory will use the dual channel part and things that need large amounts of memory will still run faster with part of it in single channel mode.

Wow. Thanks. So how heavy is the addition of the 500gb model vs dual ssd? How do you convert Romania currency to usd
-
-
I didn't look after the weight addition, but the price is 1750 USD.

Does thisnsuppprtnthr switchable graphics to save power.... Or is the gt650m just on all the time
-
Not to insult you or anyone here.
Go to the Asus Zenbook website and read about the product. -
I'm interested in this if it packs DDR5 650M's
-
Switchable (optimus). GDDR5.

I should have been more clear in my initial post (for example, read the latest Samsung with the AMD switching how it is really working poorly) The initial Sony Z series (sand Bridge) I currently have, while a good idea with NVidia (530M) really, had problems "sticking" or crashing based the mode, if you plugged in external monitors etc. Bascially I wound up doing it all manually.
So has the ivy bridge/NVIDIA been worked out to be seemless? Does this ALSO mean you need to wait for ASUS to update the drivers for the switchable graphics or can you just keep up with the WHQL from NVIDIA (again, the new AMD chips don't even have the right drivers on the new Samsung Series 7) -
Hello,
I want to buy UX51VZ but I have some trouble choosing where to buy it. In Czech Republic where I live is only one version offered CM042P, which is 512GB TOUCH GLARE which on top of that is not even in stock yet... I could buy it from Slovakia but its still this version that I dont want.
I prefer 256GB which is cheaper. I dont care for touch, but if it means it will get heavier or the battery will last shorter then I dont want it. I will use W7 anyway. And what I really dont want is GLARE/GLOSSY display. I never had it but I am scared of that lol, dont want to see myself on the screen.
So Germans have 256GB anti-glare version CN035H. The warranty for this Asus should be 2 year worldwide if I am not wrong. But the keyboard layout is a problem.
Asus, 90R-NWO1K1A80Y,UX51VZ-1A KEYBOARD_(CZECH)_MODULE/W8 W/LIGHT - Asusparts
Will I be able to change the keyboard myself if I order czech layout from here ? Or is it too complicated since its a ultrabook ?
And by the way, does the glossy display and touch display come hand in hand ? So matte touch is not possible ? (because I have seen offerings on some eshops but I dont really trust that much, especially sicne they dont even have them in stock)
And another question. I have seen a lot of different weights. 2,06 2,1 2,16 2,2 ... on asus.com it says Touch is 2,2 and nontouch is 2,06. (and 0,3mm thinner). Is is possible, that the touch feature would somehow weight 140g ? But on other hand those german versions all say 2,2kg and they are nontouch while I've seen smaller numbers on some Touch version reviews... -

Question for people that upgraded to 12gb of ram; which 8gb stick did u buy and are there any compatibility issues one should look out for?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
I would get any named brand one and you should be fine.
-
I'm in Italy and here there is only the touchscreen version, but I'm really worried about the non matte screen. What do you think? Maybe it's better to buy a version without touch from Germany (so, German layout also)?

the onboard ram should be 1.35V but i'm not sure.
-
Just ordered the cm062p Italian touch version, 512gb and 3632qm processor. The only think I don't like of this pc is the fact it is touch and so non anti glare. But otherwise I should have bought the German version (German layout) with 3612 processor.

Well you got a 100mhz clock advantage over that one and you can always get a german keyboard I suppose.
-
No I don't want the German layout, I'm fine with the Italian one. My only claim is about the glossy screen.

Low voltage ram does not really have an impact on battery life anyway.

Even on idle, if you look at per stick rates, it really is not that significant.

Hi,
I called the Microsoft store today about the UX51vz-US71t to double check the Intel HD 4000 graphics it has listed is in fact a typo. They talked to the technical support people, who informed me that it was not a typo, and that the computer did not have the nVidia 650M card. Can someone who owns this actual laptop (not just the non-touchscreen equivalent or a foreign equivalent, but this model) confirm or deny this for me? I know this has been asked before, but I am getting conflicting information. -
Quick question: how does one attach a headset with microphone to this machine? According to the manual the plug on right-hand side can only handle headphones or microphone. Is that right?
-
No it is a 4 pole combo jack so any Apple (and most modern phone) headset should work. I haven't looked but there should be adapters if you prefer separate headphones and microphone jacks.
-
Yes, but in my daily usage when I insert a combo headset it sees just the headset, the micriphone is still the one on the laptop.
-
Cheers -

Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Or set the one you plugged in as default
-
has anyone here found a lower price for this Asus laptop? can it be found on Asus' website?
-
I think you'll see that the computer "sees" just that something have been plugged in (as it still shows "speakers" instead of headphones as some other machines I've had). That's only a cosmetic issue ignoring the lack of custom volume for headphones, with an Apple type headset plugged in the internal microphone(s) are disabled and the headset microphone used. Easy to verify - with nothing plugged start the sound recoder (windows accessories) in tap lightly near the internal microphone(s) (small holes near the camera) and then plug in a headset and do the same.
-
For those of you wanting to use the input jack for combo headset and microphones, I've actually found that for some reason Apple compatible sets do NOT work (the microphone is not recognized).
However, standard PC sets with adapters or Android compatible sets (for example the included set from Galaxy S2 or S3's) do work - why, I've no idea. At least that's been my experience. -
I am not sure what kind of confirmations you could possibly need from any one on here. Everyone that has one with a touchscreen that has commented in all the various threads in this forum as well as all over the net has stated is has the nvidia+ the intel same with all the various numerous reviews as well. IT HAS TWO VIDEO CARDS. One Intel imbedded and the other NVidia GT650 2g.
If you are that worried that every single review and countless posts some how are incorrect about this and one store sale clerk is correct then why not call ASUS and get an answer from them. You do understand that if the sale rep is reading off the same sheet that the website description is written off of which would likely be the same sheet the tech guys have they are going to say the same thing. Its listing the Intel and just somehow left off the other card. This happens ALL the time on sales sites. -

So I have had this PC for about 2 weeks now and have been loving it.
Except all the sudden the speakers stopped working. No sound comes out. The volume popup equalizer thing shows that a signal is coming through (the meter bounces). The headphone jack and hdmi both produce audio just fine.
It is NOT muted... I promise. lol.
The speakers are set as default and also enabled in sound settings. I have tried toggling back and forth between enabling hdmi, headphones, and speakers to no avail.
The HDMI runs off of the nVidia HD audio driver while the speakers use the realtek HD audio driver. I have updated/uninstalled/reinstalled both and no change.
I called asus and they told me to do a system refresh. However, I really want to avoid this as I have software with a one time activation that I don't want to lose.
The only other thing I notice that seems weird is that when I look at the driver information through the Device Manager, it shows a different driver version number than the realtek driver I installed. It shows the correct driver number when I navigate by right clicking the speaker icon in the tray...
But I'm at my wits end here.
I noticed that in the device manager, there are 2 places that show audio drivers:
1) Sound, video, and game controllers
2) Audio Inputs and Outputs
The sound, video, and game controllers location shows the realtek driver with correct version number.
The audio inputs and outputs > speakers shows the realtek driver. However, when I look at details, I shows Windows as the driver manufacturer and lists the wrong version number.
The nVidia HD driver does not show on either location in the device manager. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
That looks like my audio driver setup and while mine is an MSI you would expect it to be similar.
You could try getting an HDD cloning program to get an image of your drive, if you put it back on an identical system it should not affect your single activation. -
-
You won't be able to find them anywhere unless you live in Ukraine, Romania or Japan. I was trying hard to find them but eventually gave up and got the 512 ssd model.
-
-
Could I mod this to have a glossy display? I'm not sure how to find one, since a quick search of screens specific to the UX51Vz only turns up matte/anti-glare replacement screens.
It seems like manufacturers are moving in the anti-glare direction, and I'm not sure why. It would be nice if more of them offered a choice. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Because it lets you use them outside.
-
That is really great for people who are going to use their computers in the sunshine but I'm mostly going to be hunched over mine in a dark room. I've been using a Samsung netbook with a matte screen for the last 2 weeks and it has reaffirmed my preference for the glossy screens. Not sure how much it has to do with the fact that it's not 1080p or that the brightness is stuck at 90%, but I just don't like the look as much.
-
You've got to be the first person I ever heard wishing a laptop had a glossy display! To each their own I guess...
You can get the touch model which comes with a gloss display.
