My results are quiet strange I think :
    [IMG] [IMG]

Can you tell me which update of armoury crate you were talking about ? cause I don't have any notification about an update. Also do you have that multiwheel file ?
    Thank you

No GPU throttling, always between 130-140 W in PUBG.

Temps get to 80° in Performance / Turbo but about 73° when fan are Maxed Out.

@ lahceneamine Could you do the test again with hwinfo ? we can see way more informations with it.
I got an update in armory crate, i forgot the exact name of it. Completely changed my laptop.
Gained 20 fps in Warzone and cold war, cpu is boosting way higher than before.

I need to repaste the laptop, i'm thinking either to send it to Asus or do it myself.
Should i apply Liquid Metal to GPU or take no risk and just use normal paste ? any recommendation for thermal paste ? I've used in the past thermal grizzly but it was pumping out hard after few weeks and temps rised back.

I will do it tomorrow ASAP.

    Will test Warezone again also.

For Liquid Metal, i've used it last year on a ROG Griffin (CPU + GPU) with a GTX 1080 (G703GI) + Undervolting : I went from 89° to stable 65° which litteraly blew my mind.

Not sure I will win that much on the zephyrus.

Are you on dedicated GPU mode, or Optimus? Turbo mode as well?

I've done it again like you advised me (Turbo + Dedicated).

Better score in general, lower in CPU, better in GPU.

    Should it behave better ?

Yes, that cpu score should clearly be a lot higher. Make sure you've undervolted your i7 as well, to get the most out of it, and make sure your BIOS is up to date.

Also, do you happen to have the inferior x16 RAM by any chance? Just check once. I'm asking this because, if you happen to have 16GB RAM inside, the chances of getting x16 modules is very high. If you have 32 gigs installed, then you most likely have x8.

Guys, I've created a server on Discord for the ROG Zephyrus S17. Whenever someone asks something or shares any benchmark results, we'll get notified of it straight away, meaning we can get more work done in less time than what's possible currently. Here's the link to join:

@lahceneamine i feel your score are a bit low, maybe it's due to the same issue as i got (with armoury crate), maybe wait for the update to pop up for me it made the whole difference.

I've ordered some liquid metal and some SYY 157 paste for the GPU, i will repaste my unit in few weeks and let you know.

Otherwise been playing some New World 1440p all high settings with GSYNC  This laptop remain my favorite one even with all the issues we have.

Guys, any thoughts on QHD vs 4k from gaming perspective? Can the GTX3080 handle games properly in 4k or it is pointless as it will require to reduce quality/resolution anyway?

Honestly get the QHD for proper advanced optimus, nice QHD screen, i'd say 4k60 is doable but not more, the 3080 laptop is still a low scoring 3070 so....

For anyone getting low CPU performance, i got a reply from a dev from armory crate, he sent the logs to the engineer team and they are checking what's wrong hopefully a fix for everyone.

Regarding the overdrive missing all you have to do is uninstall this app Settings>Apps>RefreshRateService.
Download and install the new version https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/...reshRateService/RefreshRateService_V2.1.0.zip

Regarding the missing driver for the wheel, we are still waiting for @ Mythbuster if he can upload it.

Next week i might do a full repaste of my laptop i will try to take pictures, if anyone has a bit of experience, i might liquid metal the GPU too.

When you get yours tomorrow, please also test Cinebench R23 on manual with max fans, and power limits turned up to 107W using intel XTU.

Edit: Flatlander and Vincent tested this in quite a lot of depth. Problem is, manual mode just locks itself to 65W which is annoying. This s17 has so much thermal headroom, but due to Intel Dynamic Tuning, it allows Asus to take control of power limits in manual mode, which they've capped at 65W. Now even though Intel dynamic tuning can be uninstalled from device manager, the problem is, it reinstalls itself after reboot. Flatlander reported that he got nice temps at 77C @90W in turbo mode, but manual mode capped it at 65W at 55C which is ridiculous. Throttlestop didn't work at all, they've tried everything they could. @Papusan can you please tell how to prevent Intel Dynamic Tuning from reinstalling itself? I don't know, it was called Intel DPTF earlier, and now it has been renamed. There's no guide I can find online to get rid of this so far, all guides are for DPTF, and almost nothing for Dynamic Tuning. I just don't like seeing that PL1 slider maxing out at 65W in manual mode, crippling performance unnecessarily, and I want to override whatever 65W limit Armoury Crate wants to enforce.

Those of you who have Advanced Optimus on, do you have stuttering while gaming? The first unit I got back in August did and it was awful. I returned it and have a new unit coming soon.

When running in dedicated mode, it was a fantastic system though.

Another question, can anybody tell me what the CPU's power limit is on battery on the S17? I'm comparing to a Razer 17 2021 with the QHD and it is limiting the CPU to 18w on battery no matter what I do. Runs great on power, but its dirt slow on battery. Even my old 2019 Razer 17 let the CPU have 25w on battery.

I had some stutters when out of the box but it was addressed in an update i believe, othewise the advanced optimus worked perfectly for me.

I don't have mine as it's in RMA i will let you know when i receive mine back ! :)

@Darkhan Did you finally got yours ? i really hope everything went ok with your RMA

For me a dude came pick it up, he didnt had any protective sleeve and i kinda feel bad about not taking any picture before ... really worried in which state it will be brought back.

Ye I got it Saturday. I heard of horror stories but this is my first to experience.
Booted and reinstalled my backup. everything seemed fine, ran timespy and GPU score of 4800?? I was shocked, then I looked at temps.
CPU fine mid 70's GPU 108!! yep 108c.
Opened up the unit took off the heat sink and not a single drop of paste on GPU. Everywhere else was fine, so I pasted and also noticed the screws were all barely snug, so I went over and tightened all of them.
Now this CPU holds -80 UV where the old one would crash anything over 70.
GPU temps max 78 that's new world on ultra for several hours and CPU max is 87. On Turbo my timespy is 12300 about the same as before, cpu is 11k. I would be sure and open it up and tighten all screws.

Damn Asus really ahha to be honest i feel like it's not them who does the repairs, they have service center who are approved by them i guess.
I'm glad in all and all that everything is okay!

When i tried to repaste mine i struggled a bit, had to remove the speaker connector who is under the NVME ssd and the screen connector (very thin and i guess easily breakable). After repasting i had even worse temperature. Tried a second time with different paste and it was the same. I'm curious at how you started tightening the screen of the cooler, the 4 CPU screws had numbers on it, so it was easy however the GPU had only 3 screws so it was a bit tricky to tight it evenly on all side. Which paste did you tried ? I tried SYY 157, cooler mastergel, thermal grizzly kryonaut.
Also i'm pretty sure that GenTech PC lied about repasting my unit, the thermal paste application looked factory, the liquid metal was overapplied (typical asus way of doing it) but what gave it away was the use of blue thermal puddy instead of thermal pads as they offered when i ordered, pretty sure i'll never go through their services anymore.

I'll attach a pic of my temps before i tried repasting while playing new world too! Thermal Throttle everywhere.

Also noticed that the third Nvme is almost not usable some cable are on the way, and they obstruct physically to attach an NVME.

I just went from corner to corner then the third all with slight tension then went back in opposite order to tighten full.

I used Noctua NT-H2 I have about every brand but that one is very easy to apply and felt like I wanted a close tight fit. Seems to be a good choice as temps are about 5c less than before.

Very disturbing to hear that they forgot to paste the GPU and screws were loose. It just shows you Asus has no quality control.

Is there already a fix for the strange fan behaviour in idle? It was "pulsing" all the time without any need to do so. This is the only thing which holds me back to give the device another chance. Or do you all have a manual fan curve?

Wow these are horror stories, just ordered mine for a second time :D. Want to give it a second chance because it checks all boxes which are important for me:

    -QHD G-Sync
    -3080 with more than 130W
    -Intel 11th gen CPU
    -Optical keys
    -17“ thin notebook

Mine is fine after I pasted the GPU. No fan ramp up ramp down noise. CPU stays high 80.s after hours of new world on max setting GPU gets 81 max.
I did also take the 4 arms on the cpu heatsink and bend them up a little to apply more force on the cpu.

Yeah you have to remove ssd to unplug a speaker cable that run over the cooler and unplug the screen connector too because the cable is routed over the cooler.

The tricky part is that the GPU is 3 screw with no order to tighten them up and the CPU has number 1234 but if you tight them up first then the heatsink bend a bit, you need to tie both GPU and CPU at the same time

    Thanks for sharing those details.

My unit will arrive tomorrow I hope. My biggest concern is the quality of the QHD display. It seems like there is a high diffenrece in quality control on the QHD model. Backlight bleed and colors are the most common problems. Is it really as bad as I think? My first unit had some really strong backlight bleed, maybe it was bad luck.

    Asus ROG Zephyrus S17 GX703 review (2021 GX703HS model - i9, RTX 3080, QHD) (ultrabookreview.com)

Do you have to remove the FANs before removing the heatsink or do you just need to unplug the FANs and the whole HS with FANs comes off?

There is a slight backlight bleed on my unit at the bottom but it's really light, nothing to make me want to send it back.
Hopefully your new one will be better.

You dont need to remove the fan or unpluggin them, the cooler is separate.
I'll add pictures maybe tonight if i have time.

Some pics would be very helpful :) Yeah really hope my display is fine. I think it is the only laptop with 17" and IPS, QHD G-Sync panel. Sometimes light bleed gets better when the display is "warming up". Will keep you updated about my unit.

Here is a picture, i've hidden some serial numbers as i have issue with my unit as it's in RMA.

Orange highlight is the cable you need to remove.

Notice how the left bottom NVME is obstructed by cable, i couldnt put my other NVME there.

Unfortunately I need to wait for monday to get my second S17.

I was thinking about the "issue" that the left palm rest is getting quiet warm. What do you think could be the problem?

I would think about the primary SSD, the battery or both together. My first try when it gets to warm will be to disconnect the battery to see if this improves things. Maybe this is just warming up when the battery is charging and gaming at the same time The view inside the device clearly shows that all other really hot components are definitely not in this area :)

EDIT: Just refreshed the status page, mine will be delivered today :)

I have no idea about the left palm rest, it doesnt really make sense but ONCE again i have a faulty unit who is overheating so i would better listen to Darkhan who doesnt have a faulty unit and said that his is perfectly fine.

Really happy for you, order a new wifi card, and if you add an NVME get some thermal pads also :)

You can also try to max out the fans in manual mode. It should help a lot with the temperatures. Let us know when you get your laptop, waiting for the good news.

Damn that was bad, glad the barrier worked.

Can you do a small AIDA both GPU and CPU stress test for 10/20 min in turbo and post the results ? :)

If you can also please test in game temps, it would be nice for us.

Cause I'm still wondering if I should repast or no.

    Thank you :)

Well, RMA #2 for me, wish me luck, i hope this time they will fix it :)
100C CPU and 96C GPU after a single run of TimeSpy!
For them the RMA #1 was done properly and my unit deemed operative haha

Im Games under full load: CPU 69-79C and GPU 76-79C. Fans are very quiet even in Turbo Mode. Repaste was necessary on CPU (See my pic) and GPU. GPU was 80-82C before.

CPU was repasted with Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut and GPU with Arctic Silver MX4.

Palmrest ist warm but not as hot as my first unit. FANs are still ramping up down under idle, but after repaste it is so much better. I have also undervolted with -80mv in BIOS. Lightbleed is in the lower right corner but this is okay for me because the keyboard RGB is shining on the display in this area :D

All in all it is a very nice piece of hardware. FAN noise (without the weird ramping up an down) is just fantastic compared to any other gaming laptop. No high pitch noises at all like Alienware X17 or Razer Blade 17 (Mid 2021).

Of course this machine is very expensive but you will get high performance with a one and only 17" QHD G-Sync screen :)
