The S17 is a maximum 12500 TimeSpy. So lower than X17 fully loaded i guess.
Fan noise in game is amazing however it's very unregular on IDLE and light load.

@Mythbuster Yeah same here but the wheel still work just accessing it on Armoury crate does not work.

Can you post a TimeSpy and which bios do you have ?

    Hi,
I will do later ... I think this weekend. Sadly I have only time for Windows Setup, no Benchmarks etc. ... it is hard to have a new toy here which I cannot use ...

Nevertheless: Multiwheel. With the Software, you can press the wheel and then you can choose between different functions ... I saw this an a video. Now only volume works ...

My S17 arrives tomorrow to the service center. So far they have been very good with communication. I am using my 2020 razer 17 at the moment but my typing sucks. I am not even going to open the new Razer17 and just send it back. The s17 keyboard has spoiled me.

Amazing, hopefully they manage to fix it quick; did you sent it back with the original wifi modules ?
As for the keyboard it's the same here; I can't go to any other gaming laptop without feeling it's cheaply made hahaha

Yes, I swapped back to original wifi and did a clone on the drive and then wiped the drive. I own an Engineering company for Dell/HP/Lenovo/Apple etc so I did not want any NDA material to be floating around out there.

I was just checking the ASUS page for the most recent BIOS update for the S17. Then I found out that there seems to be two different BIOS versions for Version 310. Maybe you have used the wrong one? It is a bit misleading on the ASUS Support page.

    upload_2021-9-17_4-38-18.png
If you take the link which I have marked you will be redirected to the BIOS for the QHD version and not 120Hz.

No. One is for the EZ Flash Utility (flashing through the BIOS), and the other can be flashed from Windows environment.

Test Cinebench R23, and see how much wattage the CPU can sustain long term using Hwinfo. Test this in turbo mode first. And then use manual mode with max fans, and set PL1 to 120W using a third party utility like Throttlestop. Let me know if you need any help regarding this.

Also, do a combined stress test using AIDA64 (with Stress CPU and GPU option checked): do this test with turbo mode first, followed by manual mode with max fans, and PL1 at 50W. Also test 3dmark timespy as well, and let us know what score you get.

Let us know the CPU and GPU temperatures along with their corresponding wattages in the tests.

Okay, no chance. I can`t stand the strange "fan ramp up behaviour". I will stay with my x17.

BTW I ran a TimeSpy and the score was good. 12300 GPU and 10500CPU (Turbo Mode). Than I ran it again after switching to manual and back to turbo again. Now I only get 9500 CPU score... Besides that the left palm rest gets really warm..

Well it is a good device but for me the x17 is the better choice. Have fun with your devices :)

Fan noise can easily be controlled. Manual gives you full control over your fan curves, so I don't think you should worry about it. Try to give the S17 another chance I'd say.

Btw did you try Cinebench? And how were temps overall?

I see you mentioned the palmrest area getting hot. @Darkhan @vincent9669 did you face any such issue with your s17?

For sure palm rest gets hot. Is it as hot as the razer blade aswd keys get hot?No, so for me it was not a deal breaker.

@pitha1337 my unit has the exam same issue.

TimeSpy CPU power throttling hard and getting 9000 score.
Bottom left part in between the keyboard and palm rest get annoyingly hot.
Fan ramping up hard for no reasons, like if they are 1 degree above a threshold they blow for 3 second and stop spinning then start blowing for 3 seconds again.

all those issues unless the palm rest is software and will get fix if we give feed back on the armory crate software forum.

the temp and noise are still way better than most laptop, for me the x17 that I’ve seen was just way louder

My x17 was louder and I get employee discount and still sent it back. But everyone is different and you just need to find what you like the best. I think perhaps the x17 r2 may fix many of the issues I did not like? At least I hope so.

well for me was Noise/Size/AW command center. I just felt like while using it looking at my office corner where my Area 51m is setting that I have 6k invested in and never use it after each update it got lower and lower performance. I just did not want another system that I could not throw in my 15inch tumi travel bag. The s17 fits, (corners are snug but it fits) But I think the x17 is great machine for many and as many systems as I buy I am sure when an R2 comes out I will be first to jump.

Does any of you know why " Intel ® Smart Sound Technology for USB" seems to conflict with the Delta Headset ? I had to disable it in device manager to get the Delta working again in Armoury Crate.

Yes I think it is because of the Delta mic technology, I will keep the ones from Armoury Crate, they are better.

I haven't installed COD yet but I got between 78° and 81° on PUBG and Cyberpunk (GPU) while CPU goes between 71 and 76.

For the ones having issues with the WLAN Mediatek card :
    - Download the drivers that are here : https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?124328-DRIVERS-MediaTek-WiFi-Bluetooth
    - Uninstall the ones you have completely (you can use the tool on the asus thread)
    - Install the new drivers
    - Test and see

    It fixed mine.

Can you please give manual mode a try with fans maxed out and let me know if that helps bring the GPU temperature below 80 degrees? The GPU hitting 81C in Cyberpunk kinda bothers me, so it would be great news if the GPU stays doesnt cross 80C while gaming after this tweak.

Mine is slightly warmer 85c cpu and 83 gpu, turbo profile on call of duty.
Expect 5c less on full fan but it’s way too loud.

Okay. Whats your room temperature like? Also if max fans is too loud, I guess a sweet spot between turbo mode and max fans would be good to go, right?

Also, I dont understand how Jarrod in his review of the Zephyrus S17 had way better temperatures than what everyone is reporting here. I just wish there's a way to get better temps on this beast.

Mine isn’t stock it’s from GenTech PC, re pasted by them. It was free when I bought it and I regret it every minute.
If you have a stock unit Turbo is sweet spot because it’s relatively quiet for the performance you get, if you want manual mode can be great but you need to tune everything and it can be time consuming to set up.

With fan maxed out, GPU is 76 and CPU between 69 and 73.

Is the GPU cooling system using metal liquid as CPU ? If not, do you advice me guys to re-paste it with metal liquid ?

Ran AIDA CPU+GPU stress test for 20 minutes to have an idea of temps, i'm considering to repaste the poor job of GenTech PC and maybe apply LM to the GPU.
    CPU 91C
GPU 87C with hotspot in the 95c
    Turbo profile, bios 310.

Or i'm still considering returning my unit because of the low score.

My fix time is delayed due to low inventory. So you may want to wait before an RMA if they have to swap the MB like they are doing in mine.
They said they will call me next week and give me an ETA.

    Holy Sh... !!!

If by any chances you apply LM on the GPU, keep us informed so I can make a decision myself (lol)

On my previous Griffin G703GX it had a gain of -12° on the GPU which was awesome.

Imho, if it's possible, then return is a better option because it hard to predict how long it will work in the future after those manual experiments. I mean, that there is no guarantee that the deal only in paste. Unless there are no other options, do repaste without any doubts.

Sorry to hear Darkhan. Honestly I’m not bothered if I don’t have it for few weeks.
Lahcene I’ll keep you updated if I’ll do it. Also could send your results for your temps ? (20 minutes stress test with AIDA)

Denis, yeah thanks mate most probably won’t touch it and send it back because I want to keep the warranty.

Your GPU is thermal throttling big time, and is down to 120W already. Even smaller laptops like the Legion 5 Pro can sustain 125-140W on the GPU with ease, so it makes no sense for the Zephyrus S17 to struggle with it. You should initiate the process for repasting from your side. Meanwhile, how about you give manual mode, maxed out fans a try? I know it is loud, but I'm interested to see how much the temps drop down with manual mode in Aida64.

@Darkhan @lahceneamine do you also experience the same GPU thermal throttling that Vincent is facing? Does manual with max fans help reduce gpu temps to any degree in AIDA64? Please share your results as well via screenshots.

Oh sorry. By "initiating the process for repasting from your side", I meant that you should tell Asus customer care to initiate the necessary process. My bad, should have checked what I wrote xD. A customer should not be expected to apply LM by himself in any case whatsoever. Apologies again mate.

By the way, I saw that the temps did improve a bit on the GPU at 79C. But the CPU isn't firing up to 40-50W anymore like it was doing earlier, and dynamic boost is kicking in instead. Kinda strange behaviour. You can try running it offscreen now (no need of screenshots, just let us know your results here) if the GPU temp continues to be good when the CPU is dialled in at 45W or so. Hope you got the point I'm trying to make here.

I just saw that 'IA Limit Reasons' says Yes under the CPU. Is there any power limit throttling going on? Probably thats why your CPU is being pegged at lower wattage than expected. Can you see again with the BIOS update, if it improves things in Aida64?

Edit: If you need any help in testing, definitely let me know. We can connect on Discord and we can do more tests in quick succession via the screen sharing feature. That will be very interactive as well I guess.
