Any specific differences between 303LA and 31LA? Specs look exactly the same.

On a side note, I went to the microsoft store today and the guy said a lot of these laptops were being returned for defects. Didn't really elaborate much.

303 has one additional USB port.
I'm not sure but I think it may be a little thicker because of this.

It's the new model so I would get it over the 31 LA. I don't have any issues with my 31LA.
Some have bleeding but that is only on the boot up screen. Not an issue. most screens do this.

Did anyone have any BSOD issues with their laptop? Other UX31LA models like UX31LA-DS71T have tons of negative reviews on Amazon strictly due to BSOD.

Thanks Mark. You've been of great help. I'm buying this laptop this weekend.
One question: How bad is the glare since the screen is not matte finish?

Not bad I just deal with it. For the price this is the best choice out there. Make sure to get the ux303la as it is newer and cost the same.

the ux31la doesn't have room for a 7mm hdd, it only has the 2 M2 slots. i believe the ux303 has a 7mm hdd slot. this might mean the ux31la is a little thinner, but im not sure as i have not seen a ux303 in person. the listed dimensions seem to be the same though (12.8" x 0.7" x 8.9").

I'm still experiencing the problem when I close to lid and put it to the sleep, it will be randomly boot back up into bios. This is a big issue for me as sometimes I'll put the computer to sleep, put it in my laptop bag, only to pull my laptop out a couple hours later to find the computer hot, and the battery drained because it booted back up into bios.

Does anyone have a permanent fix? I've tried replacing the drivers as suggested upthread, but I still experience this issue.

Its is possible, but you won't get all the space as you would if you put them without raid. Plus raid 0 is risky becuase, there's a higher chance that the drives will fail, and you will lose your data. I also got a 256GB, but will be putting them normally side by side

    Hey everyone,

I recently received my UX31LA and am having some issues with the touchpad.

At first it would clikc and then stay clicked for a few minutes. Now, it'll get stuck sometimes and i'll have to apply pressure to the front of the laptop to un-stick it. Also, if I have pressure on the palm rest then it won't un-click.

Does anyone have experience with this issue and maybe a way to readjust the touchpad with a few screws or something? Sending it back is going to be a big pain and there's a chance of getting another defective one.

    Thanks!

I was able to install a 256GB SSD into the second slot without any problems. The computer recognized it, and now I have an extra 156GB :)

I managed to install a second 128gb drive which is recognized, but can't find a way to strip (raid 0) or make a spanned volume (don't see the option in windows even after making the drives dynamic. Any ideas?

Also, one of the screws managed to strip the part it screws into in the laptop. Not sure how this happened (the screw just popped out without a stimulus). Any fixes for this? I wrapped the screw with some tape and put it in and it barely stays in the hole. Is there a way to add new threads?

    Thanks

The screw may be too small.
    Get a larger screw?

Curious if anyone here has done a fresh install of Windows 8.1?
I'd like to eliminate the backup partition and do a fresh install.
I'm not sure how to get the activation code. I'm also not sure how I can get a legit copy of windows.

Thanks in advance for any tips-

I too still have this problem.
All I can do it seems is hope that when I take my laptop out it doesnt feel hot.
Sometimes I manage to feel the heat through my bag before it drains too much but this is pretty crappy.
    We should try calling Asus.
Ive been avoiding doing so because last time I tried to contact Asus about my old Netbook they took FOREVER to respond to my RMA request to the point where the time during which I could have sent it in (a few weeks) had passed and school had started again so I needed to keep it...
I also seem to have a issue where sometimes when my UX31LA wakes from sleep after I open the lid, it immediately goes back to sleep and I have to press a key to wake it up again...
So much for Asus' slogans they put on some pics like "Rock Solid . Heart Touching" or "Inspiring Innovation . Persistent Perfection"

Make sure everything is updated, including Windows 8.1, BIOS, and drivers. Unfortunately I'm not sure which update fixed the issue for me, but I think it should be possible.

    Just got my 303LA

it has a FullHD screen but it sucks. It's way to dim even with the highest brightness settings. And the colors are off (i'm comparing it to my Vaio TT290)
Is the 4k screen any better?

OK, fixed the issue: there is some "adaptive lightning" setting in the power options.

Now to fix the colors, because crimson looks a bit orange.

You need to relax and take a breath before posting.
Also you are posting in the wrong thread. This thread is for the UX31la not 303LA?

i have just bought one of this ultrabooks ( used), and i have noticed that the battery is not the same with the UX31A:
    ux31A: 7.4v 6480mAh 50wh
    ux31LA: 11.1v 4400mAh 50wh
do you think the difference in autonomy comes from this ?
asus should have used a 11.1v 6480mAh in this ultrabook, i'm sure we get 10h or more with such a battery .
    what do you think :)

    Hi,
just bought one, I have been reading trough the thread, and I haven't seen anything about ssd size support.

    So here it is:
whats the max ssd size per module?

I'm asking because I want to buy a transcend 512 gb mts600 2260 ssd, but I'm not sure whether it is supported.
    I've only seen 2 x 256 gb Raid 0 ssd-s.

Normally it should be a problem, I mean its the same type, only larger, right?

If anyone can help I would appreciate it.

I am also interested to upgrade my 128gb ssd. I would like to buy 2x 256GB ssd , or 1x 256gb and 1x 512gb. Can anyone give me some links on ssd models that are combatible with this machine ?
    thanks

See post 261 and several after:
the 256 gb is what most use. Torque T5 screwdriver is also used.

I would stick with a nice single large drive.
