It's a widescreen... specs are similiar to that of the W5f... just smaller, no camera... no optical drive. Basically it's an update to the old S5n/a... an 11" widescreen is the width of a 12" regular ratio, but about 3/4" lower.... so basically the old S5 was 2.8 pounds..... but have a slightly smaller footprint, then you've got a system that'll be more like 2.4-2.5 pounds...... any improvement on the S5 is just amazing - and it's hard to believe that model is already more than 2 years old.

Yeah.. it was shown at Cebit... it's the model that is covered in leather in every shot you see....... the pink palmrest with faux croc..... the brown palmrest with a baseball glove leather... sadly, I don't think the US is going to get those models.... (some may say thank god) but there's also going to be just black and white models as well. More pictures of those to come later.... just not now.
-
Not sure if you saw my question regarding the W7, but do you have any information on the dimension and weight for it? The picture is kinda blurry and I can't read out the numbers. Thanks. -
The V1J has everything I want to bring me back to Asus. I still miss my Z70Va. Gotta find me a wormhole or time portal. Otherwise, it's gonna be a long summer 'til August.
<<< hoping for WSXGA+ >>> -
Haha Jack's back
Welcome back my friend
As for the screen, Unfortunately, no Glossy 15.4" screen has WSXGA+, as of yet. Hope for the best indeed -
PROPortable Company Representative
... 12.4" x 8.8" x 1.1" - Basically.. bigger than the W5 by a hair / smaller than the W3.... there's not much difference between them, so you could use your imagination a bit. -
I really like my Sager, but it's just too big for my frequent travels. I'm gonna see what I can get for it on eBay, pretty soon.
I miss being part of the Asus family. This V1J is gonna be an awesome notebook. I can deal with no glossy if it has a matte WSXGA+ screen. -
I personally can't wait for the W7J. I really hope it comes before Fall..... patience is truly a virtue that I am trying to learn.

-
Sorry, I'm kind of new to the ASUS scene, but I was wondering if the W3J has a built in camera, and if there there are any pictures of the W3J because I can't search for W3J on the forums (no 3-letter word searches)!
Also, PROPortable, can you tell me what you know about the W3J model and does your company ship to Canada?
Thanks! -
Hmm... I don't recall reading about the W3J having a built-in webcam.. so my gut feeling says no.
Appearance-wise, it will be pretty much identical to the W3V...and there are plenty of pictures of that to look at
ProPortable ships to Canada. -
Okay good, I love that ASUS look! I hate the "rounded" look that some ASUS' have.
Oh, and to modify my original question, PROPortable have you shipped to Canada and asked the buyer how much shipping/taxes/tariffs were?
Is anyone here from Canada that has done this? Thanks again, -
-
thanks omph, I just noticed that thread appear on the frontpage! (I think it was burried a couple pages back)
but wow, 38 pages... that's... a lot. better get started -
As for customs, it's usually like tax, 15%+, however, some people don't get hit for some reason. I on the other hand, have been spanked around by customs hah
-
waitaminute .. I just noticed the V1J screen was listed as WXGA - nooooo!
is there any chance of a WSXGA+ option? -
WXGA!.....you must be joking me!.....I thought the W and V lines were geared for multimedia and performance!

Case closed... the V1J will be mine!!!!!!!!!!
EDIT: I just hit 500 posts!! -
whew!.....by the way, are there any more pictures of the V1J floating around, or is that model still too much in development?
-
Given that it's part of the V series (and looking at the photos) I would imagine the design is fairly similar to the current V6. I could be wrong of course (and likely am, so as the great Reading Rainbow says...'don't take my word for it!')
-
PROPortable Company Representative
It's going to resemble more of the V6 than say... the W1 or M6....
-
Think V6, but widescreen
Man, ASUS has one HELL of a lineup... -
I would just go with the W3J instead of the V1J. They both have similar specs and the W3J is available now. Its also smaller than the V1J.
-
Amen. I was dead set on an MS-1039 until I saw the W3j and did an immediate aboutface. If I had the time to wait I'd take a serious shot at the V1j. It looks incredible.
-
True, but if you or anyone can wait, V1j PLEASE
Regretting getting V6va....must.....nooooo..... -
-
Hopefully the V1J will show up sooner than expected
-
-
-
Okay WSXGA+ is totally sweet .. looks like V1J will be it for me
I'd go for the W3j instead but I kinda want the higher res screen, and the webcam...
now to mark days till august ... -
August is a long time to wait.
-
That's nothing, remember the ASUS Z70v -> Z70va wait, with the 'certain reseller' incident?
Now that was an unbelievably long wait -
No WSXGA+
It will most probably somewhere during May be available in Europe

if it happens that I can have chances to choose between a8ja and w3j...so...which is gonna be better?
-
Is it August, yet?
-
Just a few more weeks...
/me looks at calendar
Err....months...not weeks -
Why do you think it's going to take Asus so long to put the V1 into production? The technology is almost identical to the W3 aside from the screen size, webcam, and screen resolution. In my opinion there's a fairly large void in the 15.4" department and the V1j is nearly the perfect solution to it. I would think they would have pushed for a similar launch date as the W3 and covered a larger clientele before the inception of Turion X2 or Merom.
-
What I think is that, it goes same as the Lambo, I have a feeling something along the lines of an x1600/7600 or even more powerful will be in there, so alot of R&D must be done. Heat issues if obviously a very big factor.
-
Actually, there's a much simpler explanation for the long wait for the V1J. Asus just enjoys tormenting their customers to the brink of insanity.
-
Yeah. That too haha
-
Makes sense, but you would think that if they can cram a X1600 into a 14" widescreen without heat issues they could do the same for a 15". But it's really an unfair statement anyway since production is such a complicated process. Whatever they end up doing I'm sure this notebook is going to blow people away.
-
Well, If the V1j is anything like the V6(Thin and Light), then there's somethin right there.
The W3 is 1.3~ inches thick, while the V6 is 1.1~ inches. Then again, the W3j isn't really released yet, who knows if it will be cool enough for everyones expectations....you know how it is(complaints about the warmth, it ITS a bloody x1600 in a 14" dammit!) -
I hadn't realized it was that thin...you're right, that will make hear transfer more difficult. That stated, I think almost anyone who buys either of these systems will do so for the GPU. Heat I think will be much lower on their list of concerns. (so long as it isn't so high as to burn the fingerprints off one's digits) If I were holding out for a V1 I'd be looking elsewhere also. By August Turion X2 will make the market a whole lot more interesting.

Future look...I want to see a V1J with a Merom!
well they may called it a V1M or something lol.
And for kicks.. ASUS change the FN and CTRL key around! LOL
ohwell people will get used to that.
I can't wait till i get to see the W3J, W1J side by side and possibly a V6J!
Good Job ASUS.
Thanks,
MysticGolem -
wow V1j looks amazing can't wait i believe i will hold out for it for college!

tks -
Nothing new with AMD Turion huh. I guess I'll recommend an A6k to my friend.
