edit on the 5th of June could of edited earlier but im toooo lazy ^^

Asus would never give a gaming laptop only 1GB of ram. I'll eat myself if thats true!
Other than that, sounds promising. Link to the article? -
I think he's confusing system RAM with video RAM; 1GB DDR3 would be right for the nVidia card.
-
i wonder when it will be avalible in retail, because im going to buy a gaming notebook in states in september. i hope that there will be cheaper versions like it was with g50vt (x1,x5). 1200USD would by ideal for me

here say up 4gb ddr2... and say that could be a fullhd display... what do you think??
i'm waiting for any 15-16" fullhd display, with high performance cpu and middle or high video card performance (a 4650 from ati will be enough for me..).
What do you think??
thanks a lot!!! -

or around what price will the g51 be -

This is awesome news!!! This size should be perfect (because I liked the 16" Dell Studio XPS I tried for a couple weeks), but it'll have the extra oomph that the Dell was lacking (and better build quality too I hope). And it'll have the back-lit keyboard finally!!! Now if only it was DDR3 RAM that could support 8MB and it would be perfect. Now if only it had a removable disc bay that could fit a second battery (like my W3J can)...then I'd be on cloud 9 waiting for this to come out.
-
And the first models will be designated as G51VX.
-
You people are good!
I just heard about this model and you guys already have a model number and potential release date.
Everything on this laptop looks great spec wise but white, c'mon who thinks up these color schemes( not that white isn't a good color for laptops, just not this laptop in my eyes.) -
We will be expecting the first look at G51 sometime next week (July 2 - July 6) during Computex 2009.

The price is really good. Can't wait to spend the next 2 months trying to get a hold of that 260m

They already show that there is a best buy varient as well and have the 4 files for the best buy editions that we already have. -
Hopefully there will also be a cheap version of the G51 like G50Vt-X1
-
I would think later on their would be
-
Oh my word that thing is beautiful. I think ill be selling my vt towards one of these babies when its released!

WOW! I'll be buying a new laptop this summer and I love the features and specs, but hate the case lid (can't we get something more grown up and less conspicuous).
Anything over $ 1200 and its out of my price range, so my feelings are likely moot. -
Mmmmm I'm tempted to sell my G50V for this one--though I've been trying to keep my laptops for a full year now. But it's new and shiny!
-
i hope that before end of september it will be avalible at best buy
-
It could have DDR3 despite that it's perfect
-
-
I think the white outer shell will look awesome. I am basing this off of the pics and video's of the Lamborghini VX5 that I bought buy in a heartbeat if it had a better graphics card and didn't exceed $3k (which I'm sure it will). But after seeing this a couple days ago, I am completely ecstatic despite the 4GB of DDR2 memory limitation.
-
I doubt the G51 is limited to 4GB. See my sig - I've been running 8GB RAM with no problems on my G50vt-A1 since last year!
-

The press release states what configurations are available. Up to 4GB which has been the deal with models since the G50V started. Note that there are a couple of processors not listed work in all 3 model series.
Also note that I garuntee the inaccuracy of the press release. Even the original G50V press release doesnt match the G50V models. -
Wow....this seems awesome. I was going to get a Sager NP8662 but with this apparently going to come out towards the end of June, I'll probably try to get this as long as its price is relatively close to that of the Sager

The original G50V press release mentioned three displays two different res (wxga and wsxga) 16:10 15.4 inch displays and the wxga 15.6 inch display. The wxga 15.4 inch never existed...... -
I hope it has a 16" though...
This is what I think they should have done from the get go... These darn G50's are so large it could have been a 16" or even 17 for that matter, lol
Now I am mad, LOL I would love the screen upgrade, backlight keyboard and most the video card upgrade... Our video cards in G50 are good but 1gb ram would do so much more justice... I also like white better than the orange color.
But if its same price range I think they are a steal! faster cpu, better gpu, better screens as now LED, backlit keyboard, 2mp camera what more can a man want?!?!
Soo... Anyone wana buy my g50vt? HAHA at least I got warranty for 3 years, so if it breaks maybe I get a free upgrade... Than again if it breaks I would be pissed too, lol
Maybe if I can find a 2nd part time job I been looking for at nights I can afford a new toy and eBay mine..... -

My guess is the same price range = 1200-1600. Ive never checked what res the camer on the VT is but according to asus its a 2.0 according to bestbuy its a 1.3. I will check it sooner or later lol.
I would predict their sticking with the 15.6 inch chassis i think the 16 inch screen is wrong. 17in is the G71 which already supports quad core just needs a GPU refresh.
My next laptop will probably be the 300M series quad refresh of the G series 17inch. Whatever the laptop version of Core i5 is called as it PWNS. -
More info about Asus G51 (including pictures) will be on June 2 or June 3.

Man, im getting tempted to sell my 7811 for this thing when it drops(or keep both
)
-
Damn and I just bought a G50vt-x1, but at least it was really cheap, it will take a year for the g51 to match that price. 800 dollars.
-
-
Yeah price is really what's awesome about the BestBuy versions. For less than a grand you have a machine that can compete with laptops 1.5x the price. I don't think G51's pricing will be enough for us to kick ourselves over.
-
The problem with the Best Buy versions has been the screen resolution. Maybe they'll fix that with this one? I love the ability to actually look at the computer and pick it up myself, but I can't do less than 1680x1050 on a 15.4".
-
-
If you have a screen res higher than the current Best Buy offer than the price will be higher than what the current mark is.

I cant believe people have issues with 1366x768. A higher res is nice but it is by no means a low resolution. If you go by screen size versus the median resolution pitch. Its a normal resolution for the screen size.
What kills me is 37 inch tvs with less resolution and even larger with less then a 1080p 18.4 inch laptop. TV's are based around broadcast capability as well as current storage and there for will always be behind what can be. Larger then source res is costly and pointless and broadcast equipment doesnt have alot of bandwidth. -
what is the point of using so huge resolutions, resolution should match the size of screen. i have 17" monitor in my pc and the highest resolution i ever used is 1024x768, because it suits the screen best and i cannot find any lack of quality.
-
RainMotorsports Formerly ClutchX2
17 inch for me would have to be 1280x1024 which is what my 17 inch external is though during the period it was made 17 and 19 inch shared that resolution the 19 having larger pixels.
If the resolution of the monitor is higher than 1024x768 then your actually not getting optimal viewing quality as its stretching the inputted signal.
That is unless your on a tube then thats entirley different. They work at different resolutions much nicer. -
If you are a developer, or graphic artist, there is no substitute for screen realistate. Granted, if things get too small on a particular screen size, it is hard to see. I program all day long on a 20" 1680x1050, and when I come home my 17" 1280x1024 seems like there isn't enough room to see my code.
-
I have 1280x768 and it drives me nuts because I do'nt have enough screen real estate. The 768 is just too short for most web pages, excel spreadsheets, word docs, or any other paper that I'm trying to read for my online masters degree. Also, having more pixels horizontally allows me to put a word document beside a website or paper that I'm searching through. Plus, more horizontal pixels keep me from covering up my gadgets that are on the side.
The smaller pixels are also more welcome for me because with my current 1280x768 on a 14.1" screen, I find myself trying to scoot the laptop as far away as my arms will let me (when it's not sitting on my lap). Things are just too big for comfort...of course, laser surgery has made that possible as of last year.I doubt most people have that problem.
