16:10 panels (eg 1680x1050) are making it's way out of the market and being replaced with 16:9. There's not much consumers nor notebook manufactures can do, since the supply of screens are (semi) controlled by the screen manufactures.

Its funny how people are mad about 16:9. If TV's werent so late to the market PC screens probably would have never gone 16:10.
If the screen was 16:9 the same height as the 16:10 and offered the closest possible res to the 16:10 do you think youd really see the difference?
I played PS3 on a 16:10 TV not knowing it was 1680x1050 and only notice that when i played it on the larger tv that something was off. That was because the 16:10 was actually distorting the image.
16:10 is actually nice for watching SD on HDTV because its not so distorted. But i think people are blowing it out of proportion. They need a fight and something to whine about. -
-
So when it comes out it'll probably be priced around 1500-1600$ for a 2.53Ghz Core 2 Duo?
How will this be any better than the Sager?
I don't mean to sound pessimistic but I was just wondering if there were any clear advantages over the Sager that I didn't know about. To be honest I'm leaning more towards the design of the Asus.
Will the G51 be any better than the Sager NP8662? -
ability for 2 harddrives? u ould use Solid state as a boot drive

1366x768 is not the 16:9 resolution to rule them all nor is 1280x720 or 1920x1080. Panel manufacturer can up and create a new res at a whim. Resolution is the screen dimensions versus the pixel pitch. Decrease the pitch you increase the res.
Current standard res's wont necesarilly apply expect to see a higher than 1366x768 but lower then 1920x1080 res to appear soon. -

They need a 1600x900 version.
I do wish Asus didn't feel the need to cram a numerical pad on every 15"+ notebook. -

For me it just took a a little getting used to "oh thats not the right side of the keyboard" lol. But it was on my list of things for my next laptop.

I never pulled out the tape measure but the specs on my 15.6 inch screen are written as 15.3 for the viewable.
Strange thing on the G51 release is the 16 inch screen.... calling it a typo for now. -
I want to see how the 260 compares to the 9800. might just get the b1 and wait for a G5* with a 280.

In terms of screen size theres different sizes. But having the 15.4 inch screen wont make it fit any better into a 15.4 inch slip case. The laptop is still physically the same size. I could put a 4 inch screen in it if u like, just need someone to make a rediculous looking bezel.
G50 = 15.6 Inch Laptop
Screen Choices = 1280x800 WXGA 15.4 16:10, 1680x1050 WSXGA 15.4 16:10, 1366x768 WXGA 15.6 -
Has anyone seen anything come from Asus at Computex concerning the G51? I have been searching and have yet to find anything.
-
RainMotorsports Formerly ClutchX2
There isnt anything to be said we dont already know. Pricing, Configurations and Availiability in exacting detail wont have come out at computex. -
I've been keeping an eye out too and nothing big so far. I have seen a couple of articles on other Asus products at Computex, so maybe we'll hear something this week.
-
Personally, I'm waiting to hear about the screen...that is going to make it or break it for me.
Here's to hoping they offer more than one screen resolution -
I'd be surprised if they only offered one resolution, given the history of the G series and the specs that have been released so far, but you never know. I'm waiting for more information on that mysef.

Hmm, I just ordered an M860ETU barebones chassis. I hope the G51 doesn't come out at a price which makes me regret it.
-
-
still don't know if i wanna wait or not for it -
If you haven't ordered yet, you're talking about waiting 3-4 weeks for a laptop that's a straight upgrade, plus a free upgrade to Win7 if you want it. Even if you still decide to go with the G50, the price will probably drop when the 51 comes out. Unless you need it right away, it's definitely a good idea to wait.

thanks i respect the credit
I hope the price is right i know it will be though -
Ouch that res is too low for me. M860ETU it is then.
-
I was afraid of that being the only res they offered >.<
It seems such a waste, though. I hope that report isn't accurate. -

LOL @ Pepil their not just double posted you reposted in the same thread, page 6 think ur the one i just linked in the other thread.

Here's a link with quite a bit of information: http://www.computex.biz/asustek/default.aspx?PageType=ProductDetail&pdt_id=24819&pcode=A2100

Dimension & Weight: 375x 265 x 34.3~40.6 mm, 3.3kg with 6 cell battery & 1 HDD
This is 7lbs!!! :O -
Shot down.. i was afraid this was going to happen... fricken 1366x768...
Its honestly pretty chunky too, at 34.3-40.6... even the Sager m860etu is thinner than that. and has a 8 cell..
But prepseb, from the link from the other posters, its 2 HDD's. and an illuminated keyboard. COOL! Shame the LED screen is gone though haha -

Unless more resolutions are added, 1366x768 means I'll probably pick up a G50 X6 at the end of the month, rather than wait for one of these G51's.
-
yea, the screen is a downgrade from the g50vt.... who their right mind would go increasing the specs of the comp but lower the screen res? It just doesn't work.

cited here, apparently Asus has no plans on adding variants to the listed 1366x768 screen res. Frick, that sucks. -
Yeah it's a bit disappointing that they upgrade the GPU but keep the screen resolution lower :blink I mean, yes the FPS boost will be more apparent on lower resolutions, but heck, half the point of getting a better GPU is to up resolution when gaming
I'll wait and see I suppose. If screen resolution is low, perhaps pricing will be low in accordance(see those Best Buy Asus G50s) and this may become a very good "bang for the buck" gaming laptop despite low res. -
I am too disappointed by the screen resolution change. I was really hoping for something like 1680x1050 or 1900x1080...I'll stick to G50Vt then or just wait it out for G71Gx
-
Well, this news makes it a no-go for me either. I was hoping for 1600x900 minimum and 1920x1080 preferable. I guess I'll get the current rev instead or wait for something more interesting (like alienware 15" laptop upgrade).
-
see its funny because you would expect for Asus to take a hint with the complaints for the k51... now the g51 is coming out and they still don't get it. They could be selling alot more if they allowed for more screen variations.
-
Well I'm one of those rare people who can live with lower resolutions, but I'd honestly like the option to have higher ones too. Seems companies are too set up with axing costs >.>
-
screen rez killed it for me
-
So anyone know any release dates?... Btw even if the screen res isn't great if its like 1,400 I'm still getting it.
