i totally agree with you. its just a bigger screen, apart from that its still a g51 with a higher price tag.

Any reason why you think that? Asus' G50 X6 was a step-up from G50-X5 in those regards; what don't you think newegg will do the same with the G51-RX5? Some said it would be around the 3rd week of July so we may have a bit more to go.

Is the g51 still getting high temps on everyones laptop that will eventually damage the laptop?

    not everyone's
mine has not been over 60C on the GPU, after playing crysis warhead for 20-30mins on high
i've tested with many other late games and no overheating issue really at all

That is interesting...I wonder if they fixed the paste problem after a few shipments of the laptop?

Also, does anyone think there is any hope of there being a cheaper g51 model once it hits newegg then the ones you can pre-order now?

    Thanks...

    Below 60C after Crysis?

If that's true, there seems to be some double-talk going on, as Asus is saying 90C is fine and dandy. What are your conditions like?

Already discussed this - *AFTER* the game is off, or even ALT+TAB in windows lowers down the temperatures very fast (20C down for less than 30 seconds). 60C Load temp on Crysis on any laptop seems unreal

No way, unless you're on a cooler. I'm sorry for doubting your word, but that's just impossible, with about any gaming notebook. The G51's heating solution just isn't up to the task.

Hey guys, I'm looking to purchase this laptop from Best Buy, as I have a relative over there in the US. The only problem is that I live in Europe, so I am a bit worried about the warranty as I understand its only a 1 year (US only?) warranty.
Is it an international warranty or not?

While anything is possible, i have my doubts on this. Even my desktop setup at stock speeds (285gtx) will go over 60C in crysis, a latop with very limited cooling i doubt will be able to sustain those ranges. I would like to see maybe high 70s low 80s with an external cooler, but 60c is highly unlikely.

But as i said anything is possible, im really intersted into some screenshots, maybe HWmonitor, just let it run and play, and post it after.

I'll do that. Is Crysis the best benchmark pretty much?
Any particular settings you want me to run in the game?
    Anything else?

my conditions are normal; i just have the laptop sitting on a desk with nothing covering the sides

No need. I just played crysis again on FULL settings (1366x768, 4AA, ENTHUSIAST settings on all) for about 30 mins. GPU temp reached 84C max. Could not take a screenshot though, something with the game still open and game window overlapping the hwmonitor, i'm not sure.

Don't know why it as 60C before, but it looks like you guys were right.

BTW, at those settings game was laggy, but i still managed to play it like that for 30+ mins.

I'm curious if anybody has tried undervolting the CPU, as shown by the guide here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=235824

If successful, this would also lower the temperature of the 260M as they are connected right? although I remember reading somewhere that someone couldn't undervolt the P7350 due to a program not supporting half multipliers or something ..

    EDIT
I just realised that TevashSzat (two posts above this one) has undervolted his CPU, how is that going for you? any decrease in temperatures?

Thus far my friend Josh's G51 has yet to exceed 82C. Now granted that is with a cooler but i would say within acceptable limits. I had him loop 3dmark 2006 on max settings for 3 hours before checking the temp. Next time i talk to him i will ask him to run crysis.

You can download SpeedFan freeware prog. and try to speed up your fan(it can even force fan to work non-stop).Perhaps that will solve the overheating problem

I think those numbers seems fine for heavy playing n benchmarks. I seen some people comment high 90s even breaking 100s, so those range do worry me. But maybe was just the first batch.

    Hey all,

Been reading all these posts and you guys have convinced me I need one of these bad boys!!!! Ordered it from BB yesterday, because all the stores around me were sold out. I went to look at it though, and that sent me over the edge on whether or not to buy it. I really like the keyboard, as well as the LED back-lit screen.

I am turning 21 this coming Sunday, so I am using some extra $$$ to get a processor. I read Clutch's review of the G50, and really liked the t9600 he put in it. I found a T9800 for just under 300, so I splurged and got it!!!

Along with those two purchases I am going to try the NZXT Cryo 'S', which is the smaller version made for 15" laptops. If I do not like it, I will probably try to get a Zalman NC2000.

Everything will be here by the end of this week(hopefully), and I will try to get some benchies done! :D

CPU at max load went from about 69-70C to about 65-66C, nothing that extraordinary, but still decent. GPU temps seem to be minimally affected. Mine maxes out at 89C, maybe 1 or 2C drop max.

Tell him to run Furmark a while and check the temps with HWMonitor. 3DMark 06 is NOT a good stressor on the GPU.

I posted this a while back, but dont have any pics for you guys uploaded..
with Furmark running for a full 10 minutes i max out at 91c, and the fan kicks in and holds it steady at 90c. Once the load is decreased (turning fur off for a few seconds, IE) the temps rapidly go back to 82-83c and hang around there. I have yet to break 92c in any game, including Crysis on highest settings (no AA)

Ive been hearing here by some that the bad overheating problem has been with the first batch of g51s. Does this mean that if I go to best buy today and pick one up it wont have too much of an overheating problem?

I don't think there were "overheating" problems so much but they do heat up. Mine gets into the mid 80's while gaming and while thats a little high it's never caused a problem and I don't think it will in the future, that's just the nature of the high-end video card.

My Dell XPS runs hotter than the ASUS and I used it for over 4 years with no problems. I also like the 15.6" size as the 17" are a little too big.
I've read some people putting down the P7350 proc. All I can say is it runs very well for me and I play a lot of different games as well as use Photoshop and Illustrator frequently.

My G51 has been very solid, it hasn't crashed once in the almost 3 weeks i've had it. It is simply a great notebook. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a powerful notebook and it can't be beat in this price range.

Nine cell should be fine. Twelve? Not sure.

There's something odd here. Or maybe I wasn't observant before.

Anyway, when I was installing my second hard drive I had the bright idea to put in the driver disk the G51 shipped with (which has a big fat ASUS G60 printed on the CD).

I used it to install a driver for the SM Bus Controller. After installing and configuring my second hard drive, I noticied this:

Do you other G51 owners have the same thing? A G60vx?

They are parctically the same notebook, except for 0.4 inch screen difference right?

What are the resolution options for the G51?

I know you can get 1920x1080 and 1336x768, but are you also able to set the resolution to 16:9 anywhere in between... say in the 1400 or 1600 range even though it would skew the image a little bit?

Even though my desktop is hooked up to a 1920 x 1200 monitor, I can still get a whole range of resolutions that are 16:10 and then set my monitor to 1:1 aspect ratio.

Is this an option for the G51 as well?

I think the G51 may be restricted to mostly 16:9 ratio resolutions. 3DMark06, for example, won't run at 1280x1024 on mine because of the resolution and can only do it at a max of 1366x768

    @xcskiier23

Well it depends, I always do a clean install in all my computers, everything worked out perfectly , the drivers disc you get has everything to get in going, some things are not up to date but you can easily update. I mainly did it because I wanted to erase most of the asus programs and to delete the express gate partition, which was 11 GB, and I don't use it. As performance I did 3dmarks before and after several times to compare, Before I was getting between 8900 a 9000, after the clean install I got 9443.

The A1 hasn't been released yet. But I'm confident it will support lower 16:9 modes.
