Personally I can live with the screen res on a basic model at 1366x768 but if im paying 1000+ id like something higher, So yeah depending on price. And as the release models wont be cheap, then yeah the res should be higher lol.
16:9 or 16:10 doesnt matter as long as its a high res, in fact it doesnt actually matter to anyone but someone has to have a cause right? If they never had it they would have never known.... biggest mistake in the world is giving people a choice lol.

true man, i just want the best because i'm looking to spend 1800-2000..up to 2200 CA as needed for the extra performance. After seeing my sisters mandatory rent laptop with a t7700 runninng left 4 dead sluggishly, and my cousins $699 play warcraft 3 TFT on a res of 1280x768 with the biggest frame rate/lag problems i have ever seen, i've concluded that i require a laptop that is still respectable on terms with gaming performance. People tell me i'm wasting money for such a high end laptop; i tell them i can't stand to see my laptop lagging so horrendously that i feel like i wasted the $1000.
I really don't see the laptop being more than 1099 for the bestbuy version though in the U.S. Really they can't jump the gun on the price that much just because its new. I'm hoping for the high res/good cpu/good HDD to release for about 1300-1400. That would really fall in my budget quite well.
Choice does hurt us my friend. But choice is also what allows us to evolve so quickly. If everyone was merely sticking to one thing, we wouldn't have advanced very far in life. Laptops would still probably be $3000 for a single core cpu. -

I think that is too much, my guess will be around $1200.

I was saying 1200 to 1600 as in the range of all the models initially released. I also said it was my guess as some people have quoted the supposed release pricing. There is more than one model of the laptop..... -
You can add me to the list of wanting a higher res.
I think the 1200-1600 price range given is the lower ends... probably Core 2 Duo 2.53 Ghz... Quads will probably be 1600+...
I just don't see them being that cheap along with a GTX 260M and 4 GB of ram with dual HDDs. -
with your given information ClutchX2, i would then have to say that the highest end model with the q9000/1920x1080/500+ HDD would probably cost us around 1600+100 US. The way in which you've deduced the price of the high end laptop seems to work out. The price of an X5 at one my retailers was 1499.99 CAD but unfortunately i cannot verify it because they have taken the actual item out of their webpage. All other g50vt models are also out of stock so i am assuming they are planning to move the new g51 units in. I'm probably expecting a the high end g51 to cost about 1899.99 CAD then.
I'd say the $1400 would probably only include a P8X00 series intel cpu and about 320-500 gigs at max for the g51. The resolution would also be presumably the declared 1366x768.
Great info ClutchX2. -

Well we're not sure yet. Clarkfield CPUs aren't coming for another half a year so it might be a refresh as much as Asus might decide to release a new line of G51s with those CPUs.
-
i thought the clarksfield was coming in the Q3 of 2009 but i just found out that it is delayed until Q1 of 2010. O well i guess the only thing left remains is for me to pick a p9700, p8800 or a q9000.. honestly the price difference for the extra 3 mb of cache and .133 ghz for the p9700 and the p8800 is ridculous.. does it affect performance that much? It's also been debated alot as to whether the p9700 or the q9000 should be the chosen CPU at the same cost:
p9700:
-28W TDP (Longer battery life)
-2.8 Ghz x 2 cores (better for single threads games/tasks including Warcraft 3 TFT, Doom 3, World of Warcraft, etc)
-6 MB cache
q9000
-45W TDP (Shorter battery life)
-2.0 Ghz x 4 cores (better for cpu intensive tasks & games such as GTA 4, Supreme Commander, World in Conflict, etc.)
-6 MB Cache
o life's hard choices... -
Well it comes down to what you need really. I mean, sure it'd be nice to have the best performance, but sometimes we can't afford it or we simply don't need it. I know that any semi performing core 2 duo would be more than enough for me so I don't see the need to wait for anything better unless that implies a price drop for the stuff I already want.
-
I should have clarified that I was talking about the best buy version. Don't think that will be over $1200.
Learux -
-
Well the G50Vts from best Buy had a P8400 in them >.>
They certainly won't have a quad for sure, but it's not impossible they'll put a half capable Core 2 Duo in it. -
RainMotorsports Formerly ClutchX2
X1 = P8400, X5 = P7450.
-
Not really to big a deal if it comes with the slower processor, but if all versions support QUAD core cpu's, a QX9300 ( I know someone willing to sell me one pretty cheap) will crush every game.
Problem fixed! -
Then the A1 with a T9550 (2.66GHz) with 260M GTX, WUXGA+ and 2x250GB would be $1700.
Q1, Q9000 (2.0GHz) with 260M GTX, 2 x 320GB HDD should be like $1900. An extra $750 for the QX9300.
Just an educated guess based off previous Asus pricing schemes. -
RainMotorsports Formerly ClutchX2
Your educated guess just downgraded the previous best buy hard drive capacities lol. They previously came with 320 GB and I believe (runs and check my G50 chart) The G50VT-A1 was the last one to use 250's in dual or single config, the rest all had 320's in dual or single.
-
I would be just happy with the 260M GTX and do some upgrades myself later.
You can get faster HD's pretty cheap and swapping out the CPU is a piece of cake, also gives you a chance to apply some AS5 to help cool it better.
1000 post's!
Yay for me! -
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
-
RainMotorsports Formerly ClutchX2
Q3 is still technically late. The G51 has already been designed so unless the motherboard manufacturer and intel provided engineering samples for developing the system early this year for ASUS they wouldnt have the time.
-
if it released late September i would wait until the release of the clarksfield in the g51 and wait for reviews to see if its good.
-
Is it just me thinking 1920x1080 would be too much for a 15.6"? I wanted 1680x1050
-
You can get a 1920x1200 screen on some laptops (SAGER NP8662) but personally I think that's a little bit overkill on a 15"/16" laptop.
A 1680x1050 screen would be great, but I have never seen one on a 15"6 laptop, the 16:9 aspect ratio would make it pointless.
But for all you people out there who would prefer a higher res. screen the 1920x1080 would be the only option to maintain the "golden" 16:9 aspect ratio stated by ASUS on there product page -
I may be jumping ship from the MSI GT727 to this bad-boy....
One question: what's up with their overclocking? 20% on all CPUs? Any restrictions, warranty, etc.? MSI requires that, when OC'd, you have it plugged into an outlet.
Thanks!
~Ibrahim~ -
But how long do you think it would last OCing on battery power alone?10 minutes..lol
When gaming it needs to be plugged in to take advantage of high performance mode. -
OK, got it, thank you.
When is this going to be released?! No news since initial leak, really, minus those nice pictures a few pages back.
~Ibrahim~ -
supposedly in july i think
-
Hadn't I heard end of June or something? Well then again, I'm not really well informed, I just recall seeing someone say that >.>
It'd be interesting to see final specs and the according price. -

well i know when i was researching the G60 i was only finding july so im sure that would be it.

July is what my local retailer tells me. They are a big Asus dealer and usually have good info.

@Starfox and IKAS V: The jump from 768>>1200 is really big. Hopefully as 16:9 becomes more established we'll find a compatible screen that's somewhere in the middle. I've been debating whether it's worth it to jump to a higher res screen or just get a bigger monitor and have the best of both worlds.

Thanks, ClutchX2-- appreciate the way you handle things.
Haha yeah. Imagine how many "***OFFICIAL G51 THREAD ZOMG***" threads there will be when the G51 does come out though. -

Yeah I've seen 1600*900 and it's a pretty decent resolution.
IIRC Dell also offers this on their Studio line. -
Yeah, Dell did just recently add it as an option after a small refresh.
Going with x768 is just being cheap, plain and simple. -
Yup it is.
Well I think it'd make people a lot happier if they chose the midrange 1600*900 over the lower one, but I guess some people just insist on cutting costs >_< -
For some weird reason, I'm more comfortable working on 16:10 screens than 16:9. Very subjective thing, but was wondering whether it was just me?
1600x900 won't be hugely diff from 1680x1050 (though I'll miss the extra pixels) but I think I'd prefer it over 1920x1080. The G50Vt has the same chassis size iirc and it has a 1680x1050, so I'll keep dreaming!

so many interesting laptops being released in july so to speak...

Hmm yeah, I may be somewhat biased by coding and writing. I don't do much graphical work so I don't need as many toolbars on the screen.
