like you said before, technology is always changing. I don't see the w860cu being released anytime soon either so there's not really direct competition since the k series still runs on puma or maybe caspian that we currently know of.
The m860etu is a monster too kevin![]()

I have classic technocritis. Never content, always worried about what's next. Plus my technospider sense is tingling, like something big is right around the corner.
How long are you going to hold out? Your budget should be growing.
-
Does anyone know how the Asus speakers will perform. Will they be 2.1?
-
RainMotorsports Formerly ClutchX2
2.1 would imply it has a subwoofer...... so i doubt it? Quite literally sound card aside all 2.1 means is theres 2 speakers plus a subwoofer. 7.2 would say 7 speakers and 2 subs (The 7 speakers are usually 2 side 2 front 1 center and 2 rear).
While no one ever refers to stereo as 2 in this comparison 2 is only inferior to 2.1 as it lacks a subwoofer for bass. -
unfortunately my bank accounts not growing in size, even though i found a job at bestbuy, i only get 5 hours a week cause of recession, which all disappears to my phone bills and going out. xD
I think your technospider sense is going to be accurate
me want a laptop soon.. or an msi ex625 and a pool table.. either way i'm getting something
honestly though i think a m860etu is still good though because its not like you getting old old technology. You still got quad core, gtx 260m, 1680x1050 16:10 res, 8 cell battery at a 15.4 inch. What else could be better? -
Nah, can't live with 4:3. My order of preference is 16:10, 16:9, random sand drawings, 4:3.
-
ALLurGroceries Vegan Vermin Super Moderator
A surprising amount of computation can be done with sand... and rocks
Of course the original computing devices were pebbles and sand... aka The Abax
/massive OT (sorry, maybe somebody got a history lesson tho!!
)
I'm going for a direct upgrade from sand and pebbles to the G51, resolution be darned. -
That XKCD cartoon is great!
(But I still stick with my 4:3 preference, sorry about that
Of course it's just that, a personal preference.)
-
When will GDDR5 launch for Nvidia? Probably not in the next couple of months... will they be same price and just replace current models?
-
i would guess nvidia and GDDR5 would be some time late Q1 2010 (similar to their 9x and gtx2 series).
NCIX pulled the G50 models as well. -
Newegg doesn't have the G50's either. I don't know if it had any to begin with, lol, but there aren't any now...
~Ibrahim~ -
Yeah newegg has the G50. Seems it must be coming soon if lots of places are removing their G50s
-
huh? G50vt is still there
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220483 -
I still see them at newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...A=0&Order=BESTMATCH&Description=g50vt&x=0&y=0
-
now that your technospider sense has been proven accurate, i no longer want to purchase a 8662... I'm out of luck though seeing as they won't be released before august.
-
Sooo... can somebody explain to me what the heck the HD 3D panel is?
I mean HD I get. Probably up to WUXGA. But... 3D??
and HEY. WHERE'S THE SECONDARY DISPLAY. -
Hey bestbacon since you now work at BestBuy can you sniff around for the G51 BestBuy version?
I'm guessing they will have one
-
RainMotorsports Formerly ClutchX2
What is it u wish to find, an SKU and a unentered pricetag of 9,999 like circuit city used todo? Though prices seemed to get entered ahead of time at BB. -
Not to interested about the price too much just about specs and how the design on the lid might look/color scheme.
I wont mind if it comes only in the white color we have seen posted but usually the BestBuy version has it's own unique look.
No offense but the lightning bolt pattern on the last model was, to put it mildly, horrible. -
RainMotorsports Formerly ClutchX2
Yeah well if engadgets revealings of what best buy employees have sent in on the matter there wont be any pictures. With weeks to go i doubt they have even shipped yet. -
still haven't got notification yet of the product bro, its not on my retail weekly yet so i have no news on it. i work tomorrow so ill see if its SKU is in the system.
edit: i live in canada, no asus lappy's here anyways -
I like your style man
keep us posted us of any news, I'd like to see and get my hands on one of these badboys before making a purchase.
Thank dude! -
sorry bro if you read my edit, i noted that i work fro ma canadian bestbuy and they don't really have asus laptops so sorry to inform you there though. I can only search within the 58 stores of ontario so its not much
-
You only have access to stores of the same region? That's odd. At Staples I have access to inventory for all the country; I just never use the stores outside Quebec lol
Asus in Canada is handled by online resellers mostly so we'd have to check with them. Only retail store(other than the physical store of those online stores) is Microbytes I believe. -
i've actually never heard of microbytes. And i'll check at bb again, i'm still new so im playing around with the system.
-
Microbytes used to be back in the days it started one of the cheapest places for computers. They weren't big, but they were known to those who bought computer parts. Now however they've jacked up their prices however so it's not as advantageous except on few occasional cases. Doesn't help that each of their physical stores have different selection of products >.<
What I find advantageous is that they usually carry notebooks that main retailers don't like Asus and MSI laptops at certain locations. Thing is you hvae to find out which locations these are lol
-
Bah i don't think im going to find a Microbytes in toronto. My best guess is PCVonline which is about 20 mins away for me :O. O which brings me to the idea, why'd don't you order from PCVonline themselves if u want an asus laptop? Ask for them to ship via USPS and voila, no brokerage fees ;d. Tax is still there though unfortunately. Since Microbytes might be potentially more expensive, i'm sure the shipping fees would still be greater than the premiums paid.
-
Well there are lots of online resellers for Asus laptops in Canada. PCVonline is one of them. There are quite a few in my area to which I could even save shipping(but to the added bonus of the extra tax).
I was surprised how fast Canadian resellers are on Asus laptops. The [non important] K series laptops were on the sites nearly as soon as I had heard it was launched(like max 2 days later). -
wait, there's a bonus tax for you in Quebec? I thought it was 13% everywhere in canada so i wasn't really concerned about it xD
anyways, it's funny how we've been chatting over 3 threads for the last half hour. I'm off to bed, night. -
Nah it's not the same % everywhere in Canada.
If I buy from say NCIX which is in BC, I only pay the 5% federal tax. SO really buying in Quebec saves me shipping but adds me that extra 7.5% provincial tax. -
Aside from taxes you'll have to pay Canada customs duties and brokerage fees for products entering from US into Canada.
-
Do Asus laptops fall under NAFTA so that there are no duties?
-
Sure canada is so important as usa
, I wish Brazil was in NAFTA too
Forever_Melody are you a girl?
-
No, she just enjoys having a cartoon image of a girl for an avatar.
-
Like lots of guys I've known
-
I'm a 100 foot green giant of course!
Does my gender really matter? lol
If you want you can try and scour that thread where people post their pictures for my post >.> I wouldn't suggest it though lol XD
@Cheese: Well that's why I'd rather buy in Canada directly. Asus is sold by quite a few online resellers at a quite decent price >.> The question is whether to buy in my province(and get the full 13% sales tax without paying for shipping) or buy from say BC(and get 5% sales tax but with shipping). -
I'd still like to know what they meant by 3D panel. Or is it obvious and I'm just missing it?
-
Of course it's obvious! Means the panel has width, height and depth! A 2D panel would be flat like a paper
Ok in all seriousness I have no clue lol
-
Maaaaaan you about made me feel stupid there .__.
But no really, I wonder if they'd actually try to implement 3D display. A waste of money IMO. -
wait so would that work for me too? I buy from a different province and get cheaper tax?
-
Depends on the store really. Some stores will adjust their taxes with the province they ship to, but others will not. NCIX doesn't for example. Neither does DirectCanada and a few others IIRC.
-
man this thing is about ready to release!
-
We're sure ready for it!! But it's not ready for us...
-
Ok how many models will be release? G51-X1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 - A1,2 B1,2?
How much will it cost? -
ALLurGroceries Vegan Vermin Super Moderator
AFAIK the only known model # so far is the G51VX.
-
Is it likely to be sold in BB?
-
I think its the same technology as the 3D LED TV.
-
I mean... I wouldn't mind having one. But are there even many programs out there that support that?
I'd like to make full use of that technology if I get the chance...
-
ALLurGroceries Vegan Vermin Super Moderator
If you do a web search it says G51VX (BestBuy) so I think so
But it'll almost definitely have the lower resolution LCD.
the new asus g51
