Yes very much so (another MSI GT725 pre-order bites the dust).
I would say if I had to have "1" concern with this laptop it would be actually one of the things that makes it appealing to me: the exterior finish/material.
My biggest fear is will this thing "dent" easy?
-
-
are we talking weeks or months after the X1 debuts?? or are you not at liberty to say
-
Personal guess on pricing:
Dual x2's with Extreme cpu and the works will probably be +3000 USD.
dual x2 with a good cpu and with out SSD probably +2500 USD
Single x2 with good cpu and w/o SSD probably right at 2000 USD. -

All I can think of right now is Emeril..... BAM!
(darn, suddenly I'm hungry for Cajun food for some reason......)

u know what ? I'm sitting in my chair yesterday and browsing this thread and I think to myself, if only asus had some great phone to go with the laptop. I think laptops that they put out seem quality built so they would probably put as much thought into cell phones. and u know what .....today by mistake I somehow stumble on a post somewhere about Garmin-Asus phone "Nuvifone"
Maybe it's old news to some of u but for me its new and great news. They have 2 models check em out.

sorry for posting that here but I did not want to start new thread about it
-
Hehe... actually that's my concern too. I game alot on the couch and when I close the lid and put it on the floor to one side the mouse often slides off and lands on the lid
-
I'd buy the extreme one immediately if that is the actual pricing on it
-

LORD NO! DENTS! Don't say that..... I can't even handle fingerprints, LOL!
Ah, who cares! I just wanna get my hands on it first!
(you ever notice how slowly and carefully the unboxing of a lappy goes? NOBODY, ever just RIPS one outta the box!) -
The MSI isn't an option for me due to its strict 1 year warranty. Can't even pay for an extension... in NZ at least. How daft is that!?
-
Definately start a new thread, but these are the shiznit! Smart phone with GPS and mapping preloaded. Great little gadget guru tech.

You guys need to know, it's the high prices of Nvidia's cards that have long factored in to the high prices of boutique notebooks. I guarantee you, if the W90 was rolling in with 9800M GTX, it would be closer to $4k. Alienware is overpriced for the m15x and m17x, but boutique brands such as Clevo and OCZ have never overcharged. Look at the Alienware M17; ATi 3870s in Crossfire for under $1750. Coincidence? No. Two 9800M GTX alone will cost you $1600!
What you're witnessing is the end of Nvidia's monopoly on the mobile gaming market. Wait until Clevo gets some of these cards, and you'll see the same results. -
I certainly hope so, Kevin. I am excited, and hope nVidia wants to actually compete.
-
Couldn't agree more!
If you spec the Alienware with Crossfire to the same level as the W90 tho it's over $2600... the sooner they stop kidding themselves the better. -
I am betting Asus sells a lot more computers a year than Alienware and probably gets bulk ability to sell, plus doesn't have to put in all that extra AW crap and get a custom case made, etc.
Alienware to me is still OK for the price. They aren't the best, they aren't the worst, but at least the M17 is competitive... -
I am interested in knowing how Asus negotiated what is obviously a steal on those T9600s.
The M17 is adding 4870s next month, so then we will see the real deal. -
I do! Seriously, I have absolutely NO restraint...
But what could make the A1 "better"? Well, the usual suspects: 2nd HD for RAID, Blu-Ray, but what about more leather? And an ionizer? ASUS has been into both... and that nice fresh "just booted" smell.
Kidding! But seriously how about a built-in TV tuner with a remote that "lives" in the ExpressCard slot? Or a USB phone there for Skype - I actually had a lappy once that had that, an Acer Ferrari.
Really, tho, it's GOT to be the "mystery" CPU, that's the only thing that would actually have a major impact on performance.
As for retailer versus reseller, for me paying a little extra for the full ASUS warranty would be well worth it even tho it does nothing for performance.
Finally maybe the A1 will come with the very best upgrade of all: someone with a strong back and weak mind to lug the beast for me!
"Minion? Oh, minion? Now where the heck's my minion...?" -
-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso
Hmmmmm...... couldn't we also say your reply is a little skewed..... simply because there are other factors to consider here. I mean, I just had a Whitebook on pre-order (since cancelled) with 4870's, at a preliminary cost of over $4,200.-.
Sure nVidia is high priced, but I don't feel that was the general message of either of the poster's you quote. Furthermore, an M17 @ $1750-, doesn't say much to the rest of it's config...... processor, etc.
For me to understand your point better, I guess I need more of an ' apples to apples' comparison here......
YES, competition is a GOOD thing, and the economy has certainly slowed.
-
Pre-ordered through who? KillerNotebooks? LOL. And are you factoring in the over $1k Quad-Core, or the custom work he does? Yes, let's indeed do apples to apples......
-
Hey guys, check out this overclocking of a w90...not sure if anyone has seen this yet...and if so, whoops
http://forums.vr-zone.com/news-around-web/394504-20k-3dmark-06-asus-w90-notebook.html
According to this, it has a 3dmark of 20k -
I heard Clevo and NVidia had a contract for Clevo to support only nVidia GPUs for their high end notebook systems. If this is true, I hope this contract expires soon because it's going to be a long 6 months for them. The GT725 already makes the Sager NP5797 look overpriced and takes away the value crown from the Sager NP5793.
I have seen some Clevo notebooks with ATi cards, but those were lower end systems. -
Jesus Christ! and no external cooling required?
It's official now. The W90 is the fastest notebook on the planet, period. I don't think even an M17/whitebook with 4870s also and a QX9300 could match this (due to limits in cooling and FSB overclocking), and you could forget about the Clevo D901c, this thing is in a different league.
I can now see why Asus held off on the W90 for a while (the chassis was introduced around May of 2008). -
Hmm this is strange, according to this link: http://www.kinc.se/W90/20k2.png
the asus w90vp comes with a Q9300 CPU....is this what we were expecting? -
Could have been a CPU swap, since the documentation listed the T9600 has the highest spec for a CPU in this system.
But this thing is just insane. The FSB is now past that of a QX9770's FSB. Never would have imagined CPU notebook overclocking to be this extreme. -
So swapping out the CPU doesnt void the asus warranty? and if it doesnt, how tough is it to swap the CPU?
-
On air dude. Is that even possible? I'd love to see the temp readings on those cores.
-
I'm not completely familiar with Asus' warranty system, so I can't say it would for certain. But on average, swapping out the CPU in a notebook is a relatively simple process.
-
well thats good to know...ill have to look into it
-
Well, one of those fans may be used exclusively for the CPU... There were those insane reports of Intel OC'ing the living hell out of the QX9300 on Air... who knows?
-
Same here, and I don't see anything external cooling it, unless the sheer mass of this system may be putting the external cooling system out of sight in gibsont's first link.
But it would make sense seeing that the W90 is larger and thicker than the Clevo D901c and all it has to cool are two 65w TDP GPUs and a 55w CPU compared to D901c, which has to cool two 75w TDP GPUs and a 90w CPU. In that regard, there should be room in the W90 for this sickening level of overclock.
Edit: and now that I think about it, until the D90xF comes out and if it does support SLi (which I think it will), I can see the Clevo M98xNU as a direct competitor to this W90. Like the W90, it can support the QX9300 (though I don't know of its overclocking capabilities in the Clevo), and if the GTX 180M is indeed a 55nm refresh of the 9800M GTX and still retain the MXM-IV card design, nVidia could squeeze out some more clocks out of it, which would put it ahead of a Mobility 4850. This can still make nVidia competitive with these new ATi cards and hopefully it won't be overpriced either. -
Um yeah 4GHz on a laptop is sick enough!
And I'm pretty sure a cpu replacement voids warranty. -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
I SAID IT!!!
Ive said so many times around this site, that this notebook will be the first notebook to break 20,000 (way before it came out). This aint no surprise though
im shocked it happened this fast....MWAHAHAHAH
i wonder what every gaming notebook maker is thinking right now?
Edit: here is my proof:

the beast is coming out soon!!!!
Are you guys all going to buy the w90 or see wat happens to the gaming notebook market.
May be a prices wars between the big companies? -
did anyone notice the review said the ram is 667mhz?...thats weird :S

Incidentally, thank God it's in a 16:9 form factor.
The AX or BX series would be a really good idea if only for the bag. Most users have trouble finding bags for 18" or 20" laptops. -
Hmh.. 65k CZK.
That would be around 2300 euros. That's interesting.. I'm really expecting a bit higher prices in europa than that. -
Hhmmm...I just got off the phone with Asus and I must say it was rather easy to find out who the "Exclusive" seller will be. Very sneaky Mr. Striker. I will tell you that the name of the company has been listed here, just in the wrong order. Too bad the seller isn't so eager to answer my questions. Just gonna have to wait like everyone else.
-
-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso
SNEAKY! LOL! I said anyone could find out as simply as I! Amazing what a simple phone call can do, isn't it? I was surprised no one had done it before I did, LOL!
Isn't it interesting that others can't say anything due to NDA's, yet ASUS gives out the info freely?
-
I just wish that the seller's customer service people were more willing to speak. I just keep getting the run around. I've tried asking them via Live chat, Email and calling them direct and they all keep reciting the same crap. Its as if they are also kept in the dark and don't know anything until the website is updated. I guess we shall see what happens on the big day.
-
-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso
Yep, same here!
I just wish (since the cat's out of the bag) that some of the resellers could get beyond the NDA's, and give us some of their pricing and availability.
I then might have the patients to wait just a little while longer..... I'd even pre-order, RIGHT NOW, LOL!
