Im a little surprised that they aren't doing a pre-order for the laptop like Amazon and Exotic are doing for the MSI GT725. Come to think of it...I don't ever remember them doing a pre-order for anything. I guess its just not their thing.

    OK, sorry..... :)

Hmmmm, the size seems to be a real issue for you. Maybe the W90 is the wrong fit? Maybe just wait for something better to come along?

I wish you luck in your search. :)

Yes, the sheer size of this laptop is as monumental as the proposed performance. Maybe we should just coin a new phrase like Lapdesk for it.

I think the measurements are roughly 17.5"x13"x2.5", which will make even the biggest laptop bags wince in pain.

Either way it fits the profile I need. Something with near if not par desktop game performance with an ability to move it quickly from room to room or lug it out of the house once every great while. Just bring the Netbook when you need something portable.

Heck how big these things are getting it wont be long before someone will come up with a Lapdesk that has a removable Netbook :D

Yep, that's pretty much my problem with it.

I really like my 9262, but I also travel across the globe at least twice a year. It's not particularly heavy, but it's bulky and I tend to travel with at least 2 laptops. Finding a bag for the W90 (outside of the Asus issued bag) promises to be a bigger pain in the behind.

As it is, my 9262 sits on a desk, while I carry my D630 around for daily use. I really like Asus's warranty, but I might just go with the Dell M6400 for the international complete care for sheer geographic availability and length of coverage. Plus, I no longer have the time to game as much as I used to. :(

Yeah, I mean I am thinking of the Sony AW my brother had... It's big. Head to your local best buy or Sony store if they have an AW, check it out, see the size, and then realize that its even bigger than that. :)

I've often wondered why a 17/18.4/19" laptop doesn't have removable parts to make it more portable. Think about it, put the graphics in a plastic enclosure with fans and heat sinks and make it removable. Then make the optical drive easily removable, and then make an optional lightweight battery. It'd be cool to see, though I know that wont ever happen :) but it's nice to dream about a one day portable and practical desktop replacement that can still destroy games.

    Just spoke to ASUS again.

They did confirm that the "exclusive" X1 will come with a bag and optical mouse. So that is good for those worried about finding something to carry it in.

Okay, David, it's clear a bunch of us want this puppy and we want it NOW! Can't you hint, nod, or wink what the performance enhancements in the A1 model will be?

I assume 2nd 320GB HD, and if they follow tradition the A2 will have like dual 500GBs plus BluRay.

So what else? Faster RAM? Faster CPU?

Help us impatient types keep from making the wrong purchase decision...

hmmm, according to the GPU-Z screenshot in that link, a single 4870 is just a 4850 with an extra 50mhz in core clock, and sharing everything else (same memory size, memory type and memory frequency as the 4850 seen in the MSI GT725. AMD/ATI did say that there were going to be a GDDR3 and a GDDR5 version of the Mobility 4870, so I'll be interested to see the latter, which is also supposed to have a higher core clock as well. Maybe the M17/W840 replacement cards might be GDDR5?

Nonetheless, for what is basically two mildly OC'd Mobility 4850s in Crossfire, it's still very powerful.

Hey, guys, decision time here. I was thinking what would get me more bang for my buck- Get a Core i7 desktop, which is very upgradeable in the future and a G50VT, which has modest power, or wait for the W90 and get a beastly laptop but have limited upgradability?

The ASUS rep could not confirm if it was a new design or the same bag that was packaged with their other Big'un laptops like the G71SG which is about the same size of the W90.

Where is that screenshot from? The Czech site?

If so, enlarge the photo of the bottom, and check out the serial number/model sticker.

    " W90Vp PR SAMPLE"

I wonder if this has anything to do with the CPU-Z screenshot? In otherwords, not a final production model....dunno???

I would go for the Core i7 desktop and the G50, but it really depends on what you want and need.

well only "U" can answer that question. either u want a desktop or a laptop, it's as easy as that, if u get a desktop it's just there, on your dek, with tons of cables all over the place, if u get laptop u get portability.
u can do anything on those two, it's not like comparing ferrari to kia :) so whatever u decide is still good.

Possibly, but it's very unlikely for the GPU and CPU specs of a PR to be drastically different from the production model.

Really it comes down to what you need the mobility for?

I was going to purchase an I7 based machine with a GTX295. I was planning on running it all through my HT and 52" 1080p LCD for big picture and sound fun. I ran my last desktop through my 50" 720p LCD and I cannot go back to anything smaller (for the long term) for true game gooberness. However this would mean that I could be competing with the family at times when they want to watch movies or play the PS3/360.

Now with a laptop like the W90 I get the best of both worlds, I can run the laptop via HDMI into my HT and Bigscreen. Then when the kids want to be in there I can retreat into another room, or if the wife wants to watch a movie but still wants to be "with me" I can play on the lappys screen while she watches a movie. Also, in those rare instances when I can get out of the house to visit my buds and play I can take the W90. The desktop would not allow this, at least without some serious belly aching. Buying both would mean that 1 or the other would be wasted for me. For some reason I would have an issue knowing that.

So really only you can determine what way is better. If you have a similar situation to me then maybe my reasons would be valid in your case.

Without knowing really what you need the mobility for its hard to make a suggestion.

I too wanted to run it to a 42" 1080p TV, but since I am alone, I don't have to worry about others using it. I do go to friends houses quite often though, to game, and I wanted a mobile powerhouse. The G50VT is a good computer- thats why I am almost second-guessing myself...

Plus, I am addicted to new technology, and I don't want to keep blowing huge amounts of money every time a new laptop tech comes out, so I think a desktop would help curb that.

Any suggestions? I knew most of the answers would come down to me and what I need :) but still nice to ask.

OK, I just got off the phone with a really helpful guy from Asus Canada. I wanted to know expected release dates in Canada (one week after American release it seems) and he had some interesting things to say.

W90vp-X1 will be exclusively released on Newegg.com first and should be there already. WOOT.

I asked him if he could hint toward differences between X1 and A1. He said the only thing you might see is Hard Drive configuration, BluRay and maybe a Quad-Core processor. He seemed to feel that the X1 was the best bang for the buck by far.

He said the A1 specs and release date is expected to be mid to late March (egad) and not as close to the X1 as I had thought. He also said that there will be another mystery version, I'm guessing the A2 but he could not say.

I know some of these answers have been covered before, but some are new (as far as I know) so I hope this helps some people out.

This is going to be a loooooooong weekend. LOL.

hmm so the X1 costs $2200 USD soo does that mean the A1 will be around $3000? Thats what im guessing right now......that would still be good though.
Alienwares M17 with the 4870 is on the way to i believe. I still would put my money on this though haha. Isnt it unbelievable? We recently passed 10,000 3d mark and now we are already at 20,000 thats just amazing to me. Once 2010 arrives probably mid way to the end of the year we will have a notebook that hits 30,000....book it!
