I could claim ignorance; it's not like dell have actively gone out of their way to tell people about these drivers.
Besides I presume the fans are on much more under the new BIOS, that is something I wish to avoid. Would I be right in saying this, are the fans on more?
-
No point in hitting Dell on the head repeatedly, because no matter what, I still think Dell did its best for the moment (I still find it hard to believe that Dell would have called for replacement the 100s of 1000s of laptops probably right away) in releasing the BIOS update, even if its not a sure fix, but something to keep the cards (assuming ALL are defective) going till they, and nVidia too probably, figure out the best way to deal with it. You should take a look at Forte' (and other similar posters in that thread) arguments and reasonings
Makes for a good reading and for once makes you think from different perspective as well.
For your second part, I wouldn't say the fans are on 'much more'. Before when gaming or excessive work load, the fans kinda kicked in around 70-72. Now its at 65-66. And this only if the temp' touch 65-66, not otherwise. For me, I don't see a big, life changing difference to be honest in fan turn on frequency.. Looks the same for me these days. And in any case, as one poster pointed out a couple of days back somewhere in this forum, "I'd rather run my fan now than have my GPU screwed up" -
Well what I mean is I'm sure dell will fix any issues resulting from these faulty dies. Also I only have a 1 year warranty. My worry is that if I use the fix now, and I happen to have a defective GPU (which is probably unlikely), the problems will become apparent as soon as I'm out of warranty. This way if I'm going to run into problems it will be sooner rather than later and I can get a free fix up.
If however, the BIOS update conclusively proves to run the system cooler without increasing fan time (which hopefully someone will test sooner or later) then I may consider upgrading. That said I don't really have a problem with my 1530 running a little hot (as long as it's not doing damage) as I don't use it on my lap much.
Finally as has been mentioned before. If this BIOS ammendment does help, then it will only delay potential issues, not prevent them. -
i played C&C3 for almost 2 1/2hours and i got max GPU temp of 69C.
i guess my NVIDIA driver is not affected of latest driver issue.
i'm done with NVIDIA driver....my concern now is tickling sound of my HDD, sometimes i heard a freakin sound -

Sorry, when I said underclocked, I meant undervolted (as the laptop will underclock itself when idle anyway). Does the fan on your xps ever come on? Even if I am web browsing, after about 5 mins of fans off the fans will come on to max before tailing off again for 1 min.
I would definately investigate your CPU settings as the fact your cpu core 2 temp is below ambient is astonishing!
Ambient = 28 deg, core 2 = 24 deg!!

My temps at idle
THM 41C
CORE0 41C
CORE1 41C
GPU 59C
HDD 39C -
Cheers.

3hours of gaming now i got 73C maximum temp, no aircon/no cooling pad/rom temp around 32C.....
see attached pics to see how's my XPS1530 explode like a bombAttached Files:

My temps after turning on, about 15 minutes on the internet and then 3 hours on Company of Heroes, it is now idle(ish):
Item : Current : Min : Max
THM_ : 39 : 38 : 73
CPU1 : 42 : 37 : 70
CPU2 : 42 : 36 : 70
GPU : 61 : 54 : 75
HDD : 42 : 39 : 44
Room temperature about 25C -
Mine with around 3.5 hrs of browsing, music, extensive analysis of my research data with 3 different graphic intensive applications, preceded by around 3 hrs of gaming wow, now the current system temps -
THM_ - 42C - min 38C - max 61C
core #0 - 37C - min 35C - max 63C
core #1 - 42C - min 37C - max 62C
GPU core - 56C - min 55C - max 67C
HDD - 39C - min 31C - max 43C
room temp around 25ish I would guess; no cooling pad; a small table fan running around 7 feet away focused towards me n the laptop. -
Ehh...are you guys testing temps with the AC adapter plugged in or with the laptop on battery power?
THM---> 43 C
CORE0---> 42 C
CORE1---> 42 C
GPU---> 60 C
HDD---> 38 C
This is with charger plugged in, screen setting on brightest, and about 2 hours of internet browsing... -
mine was on AC, screen at full brightness, max resolution as could be seen in my sig.
-
I think it will be better to type min/max values for idle and gaming modes
I have on A08
in idle
GPU 57-70C
CPU 46-60C
in games
GPU max 82
CPU max 82 -
mine was on AC, max brightness at 1920x1200
I think it will be better to show min/max values too, otherwise they will drop significantly when you finish your game and goto the desktop. Even Ctrl-Esc to the desktop while playing will lower the temps because the GPU doesn't need to render the game frames at that point. -
While playing GRID my max temps are
THM_ 71
core 1 68
core 2 66
GPU 82
hdd 45
Got it two days ago. It is new but it was shipped/built on 19/03/08 so I'm slightly worried, but it seems okey. -
have apdated to A09, nothing is changed
in idle
GPU 55-67C
CPU 46-60C
in games
GPU max 82
CPU max 82 -
It actually seems to have raised my temps a bit. While I used to idle at ~59c, I now idle at ~62c.
-
When you guy are playing on AC are taking the battery out?
Does it make a difference on the temperature ? -
Check these out:
under one hour of use, internet only no gaming, 9 cell batt, plugged in,
THM - 83 max92
core0 - 79 max89
core1 - 80 max90
GPU core - 86 max90
HDD - 49 max 49
if you guys are worried about lower temps, I'm quite concerned about mine. It is quite hot to the touch, but I've never had any operational problems. Wish I knew what the temps were before A09, but doesn't seem much different... -
Btw, internet on wireless??
Anyways... have it checked out mate. And this after A09??? -
Call Dell ASAP -
wow, thanks guys for the heads up. I've never had problems with performance, just the heat is obviously a nuisance. Or maybe the temp program is not working right. I will call anyway.
-
this is my temps after update the A09 driver. i just got this m1530 for 2 days from the Dell outlet store. And I got the max temp after I played COD4 for 1.5 hrs
Item --- Current --- Min --- Max
THM_----- 41-------38------58
CPU1------44-------36------62
CPU2 ----- 42-------37------63
GPU ------ 56-------53------76
HDD ------ 35-------32------44
with these temps, i think it should be OK for now... -
here is my xps 1530 temp.
just took now,
im using A09 bios version,
n nvidia 175.97ver drivers which put my gpu to normal temp,
while im usin ma xps just for normal work like, browsing, n multitasking
here are my temp attached in the picture.
while playing games my gpu temp will go up as 84-88c, but i play games for while, not always,
thou it gets heated up.
the gpu drivers 175.97 are digitally signed n they run ma gpu by 60c normal boot up.
im happy for that.Attached Files:

i was playing COD4 and the max temp for
ACPI 82 C
GPU 83 C
Core1 76 C
Core2 75 C
HDD 38 C
Is that Bad ??????? -
your ACPI is normal, GPU is maybe 3 degrees higher than avg but still within normal range, CPUs are fine, HDD is good.
-
I've been using my lappy for nearly 6h, only for internet and chatting , and here is the result :
Is that bad? -
I think i have a problem
I played TF2 for about 10 min ...Attached Files:

Very strange thing,
I decided to revert to A08 and my temps are better for the CPUs and the GPU (5-7 C) ! -
And are you sure u r not blocking the vents or anything?? -
Here are my temps..
Normal, At 15mins of RT HDR IBL, Max after 15 mins of Orthos and max after 3d mark... -
I really think I need to call Dell
for 1 hour of TF2 I get nearly 100C on both CPU and GPU, with a 9cell battery -

is there any temp-difference if i'm usin wireless or not?
Is it possible WiFi card , to heat up other components?
Right now my temps are:
GPU:
Min 56 - Max 83
... (i'll check otheres later). -
-
I also think position and room temperature have to do with the laptop temps too people...
Just did another run with World in Conflict same settings, 77F-78F after 3 solid hours. -
I agree with you Xe12o. Room temperataure has LOTS to do with it. I live in Delhi, India and it gets to 46 degrees C here in the summer (about a 113 F, I think), and my GPU, after playing Crysis for a couple of hours peaks at around 89-90. Recently I visited a much cooler place in the mountains and playing the highest my GPU hit was 81. So that's my experience.
My temps:
GPU: Idle-60 Load-90
CPU: Idle-48 Load-60
HD: forgot. lol.
And personally I haven't noticed any difference after the BIOS update.
Oh and I've OC'ed my GPU to 650/950, which is pretty goos IMO. -

Take no offense, but I was just thinking you could have an even better idea about the temp when your GPU n CPU are being stressed to the max...
and it was a free tool anyways
Cheers.

I'm pleased with the BIOS update. I was actually at A07 before I updated to A09. Oops. But when I'm playing GRID on medium quality preset, I'm averaging high 50's rather than high 60's like I did before. I also updated my driver to 175.97 though, so that might've helped as well with temperature. Definitely helped with graphics performance too

My temps are CRAZY hot and I JUST got the motherboard replaced TODAY!!!
After about 15 minutes of playing WoW I noticed my hands were getting HOT!!! Even on my dual fan cooler below my temps were as follows:
THM 51c Min 100C Max
Core0 51c Min 98C Max
Core1 51c Min 94C Max
GPU 61c Min 92c Max
HDD 43c Min 45c Max
I was NOT blocking the fan and my room temps are 73F.
I am chatting with Dell right now. -
Dell is making me send it back to the factory. CRAZINESS!!! I am going to be without a computer for 2 weeks!!!

Hi Guys,
First off, great forum. I've found loads of useful info on here - keep up the good work!
I finally got my M1530 on Friday which has the now infamous 8600M GT. My M1530 using the A09 BIOS and 174.31 driver idles within the 55C - 67C temperature range. I've had a look around to get an idea of other peoples idle temps when using the A09 BIOS, however I would like to ask the following question. Are peoples temps stable at the posted idle temps? i.e. The system stays at the posted temp for a reasonable about of time.
The reason I ask, is because my system constantly cycles between 55C and 67C (at which point the fan kicks in and cools the temp quickly back down to 55C). The cycle then starts over again. It can take as little as 5 minutes and always less that 10 minutes for the cycle to completeI'd love to hear peoples opinions on whether this is normal?
Thanks in advance.. -
