Thanks fonduekid, I have left my system idle for approx 20 mins, but the GPU temp will not stabilise at any temp when the fan is off i.e. under 67 C. It just keeps rising until the fan kicks in at 67 C. I'm beginning to think this is not normal behaviour for the M1530 and I'm worried that the constant fluctuating temps (55 C to 67 C) will affect the possibly weak nVidia chip :(

TheWhacker, I have (and IMHO - most of owners 1530) the same situation.
I have GPU temperature always chages from 55 to 67 in idle, some times it warms quicker, some times not

i have stable temperature only in stress modes, while gaming for example ;)

Well, to be frank, you could check for some more days... and also as the poster before me said, I wouldn't worry too much with the fluctuation... I would be more concerned with the max temperatures obtained under load / stress...

As for the fluctuations it happens to me as well, and only after 20 mins or so idling, does it stay around the temp' I mentioned.. but not always I guess and as far as I have seen around, this the normal range of temp like what you are seeing..

though I would recommend you check for some more days.. and also check the max temp' while u r at it.. u can check the free RTHDRIBL tool... also you could run Orthos for checking stability n temp' of the processor too.. just to make sure all temp' are being normal...

My laptop gets hotter and hotter, then the fan kicks in, it goes back down, then it gets hotter again. Repeats over and over.

Just monitered it while watching a movie, the process just repeats. gpu speeds for instance, goes up to about 66-70, fan kicks in and it goes back down to fifty's, then goes up and repeats over and over.

Unfortunately, i would be very worried too, a constant rise and fall in temperatures will negatively effect the nvidia chip. By the way, what is the room temperature that your laptop is in? IF its relatively cool, and your even using a cooling pad. I would recommend (if still under warranty) to get your mobo replaced. I received mine with bios A09 with an ambient temp of 85F has never peaked above 63 without a cooler, with a cooler doesnt top 60 while playing an RTS with all high settings.

Now I have the heatsink replaced by Dell, the temp of CPU and CPU becomes better.

I'm very pleased with that :)

    hello there.
maybe it doesn't have anything to do with this, but ... has anybody notice that the lid partialy (1/3 or 1/2 depending on the opening angle) blocks the exhaust vent when openned? or it's just me being paranoic?
It doesn't block it like putting you hand against the vent, but .. it's on the air's way.

    Cheers.

Pd. i'll post my temps when getting home. (my 1530 came with A09 from factory)

Currently, my 8600M GT is running at 49 degrees celcius... But I've not even had this laptop 12 hours! So plenty of time for things to go wrong.

Hopefully nothing goes wrong... and that is a nice temp you are seeing.

I would recommend setting up ur comp, the desktop and such and the interface or whatever... and check the temp'.. and also try running the free RTHDRIBL thing for around 10 - 15 mins and look at the temp'.. you could monitor with hwmonitor... and make sure the temp' including idle (leaving comp for 10 or 15 mins alone), min and max are all ok...

And while you are at it, you may want to check other temp' too, like hdd or cpu... some good free stress test tools include prime95 or orthos... and hdtune...

good luck and enjoy your system

when stressing my GPU it doesn't go above 79-80 degrees, when i overclock it, the max temp has been 84 degrees, so i that would lead me to believe my system is OK, also considering i have a faster cpu, so that means the poor lonely heatsink gets more heat, but really the only one im worried about is the gpu, the cpu runs really cold.

im glad my lappy came without any defects or problems, and for the past 4 months it hasn't given me any trouble.
    Such a neat computer!

Oh yeah... those are fine @ Koer :) :) I wouldn't worry much.. but still I'd recommend a regular cleaning schedule :) just to be sure all vents are clean n stuff..

And I agree with ur last point... me having mine for a little more than 5 months now, and no issues thats breaking my head :) :) I am loving this computer :)

After what kinds of usage? idle? normal usage like browsing, listening to music and such? watching a movie / DVD? gaming? and for how long have you measured these temp's?

The max temp' are high.. pretty high too.. and the min temp of the GPU is not consistent with whats it should be, which is around 54/55...

so please get us more details.

Are you making sure you aren't blocking the vents below the laptop? like using it on the bed or couch or something? what is the room temp? the HD temp seems to be quiet warmer than usual...

The gpu idles around 60-70 and gets up to around 90 after maybe 30mins of gaming. I have a 9 cell battery and nothing is blocking the vent.

ok guys, these are my temps during idle (doing nothing) and then about 3 hours of playing World In Conflict (a very cpu and gpu demanding game)..temps are monitored using HWMonitor

    Min Max
    Core 1 50C 82C
    Core 2 50C 86C

    GPU 62C 89C
    HDD 31C 47C

my room temp is around 28C (i live in tropical weather that is hot), im using a zalman NC1000, i have undervolted (but only 60%, quite lazy to do the other 40%) and im using the ac with no battery attached

so in our opinion, is this normal? i'm not a fussy person when it comes to temps but i just want to see if it is normal after that much stress..
