I just called the Order status automated line again today and mine is currently in the Boxing stage!!! And this is as of this morning (Mountain Standard Time, US) so hopefully it will ship like today or tomorrow! I sure hope so! I have next business day so I'll be receiving it soon!
I'm so excited!
Am I like the only US buyer here?
wildog: I also got the Sapphire Blue![]()

I live in the US and ordered mine on 13th and it is enroute to my house right now. I hope to let you know what screen I have when I get home. I definitely don't want a Samsung because I have had issues with Samsungs before.
-
Mine has not moved... still pre production and still expected 2nd November!
-
Another thing that I would like to discuss, which is a result of some 1730 owner's disturbing FPS in GRAWII: Have any of you (everyone that has ordered the 1730) considered OC'ing the two 8700m GTs? There is an active thread on the forum that discusses an OC'd 8600m GT where they had no problem with the heat. -
also i got the Red one, am a us buyer and have been in production for 4 weeks. -
i ordered mine on the 13th and it is being delivered on the 25th and i ordered it with the extreme processor, not many people from australia have had many delays, maybe they making it faster for us because we have to have the samsung screens
-
Anyone take theirs to a coffee shop just for the reactions?
-
Mine has shipped, to arrive tomorrow (Wednesday 10/23) !!
-
Meh, still waiting till 28th November for mine.
I gave them a email to see why it was taking so long with the estimated date, and they said they are really busy and its in huge demand... which is surprising since i thought the XPS M1730 would be more........ nitch, and that the 1330 and such would be the most popular.

Just plugged in my XPS M1730 and this is my first post from it!!!!
Everything is perfect thus far except for a touch of light bleeding from the bottom of the screen. It only seems to be an issue when the screen is completely black though so I'm not going to complain, even with the flaw I love the screen quality.
It runs quiet as a mouse, it is fast and kicks my old desktop's butt. The packaging was brilliant and the manual comes in a nice diary style binder/pouch.
I said to my wife she wouldn't see me for a couple of days as I get familiar with my new love. She said she wants to get rid of hers (her Inspiron 1150 I mean) and get an XPS for herself! And I can't blame her...
ps. I love that new smell -
That's great to hear that it is quiet. I am replacing my Ispiron 9100. Everyone calls it the airplane because it is so loud.
I'm also in the US and getting Blue.
Everyone keep posting their experiences with it. That is all have right now
I think everyone has good intentions and says they are going to post once they get it but are probably too busy playing games etc!
Mike -
Just an update on the noise thing, the dvd drive can be a bit 'clunky' at times. But the fans and cpu are quiet as a mouse.
-
Yeah, I'm quite used to dvd-roms being pretty noisy sometimes... my Inspiron 6400's is kinda noisy at times... makes weird noises, but if everyone's getting that and Dell has no issue with it in testing or anything, I would think that it's fine!
So mine's been in boxing stage all day... do you really think it takes a whole day (or more) to get it boxed? It could be loaded on the truck for shipment to the carrier maybe... but I dunno... impatience for computer parts/computers is a killer thing! It's just going to be so nice to go to school (I'm a senior in highschool) and have the nicest laptop in the school out of around 1600 students, and have bragging rights. Though I try not to brag, I simply like to talk about it in excitement... I don't try to make people feel bad...
What are you supposed to do when you order a $4800 computer (yeah, that's how much I paid including tax)? Be down about it? (Valve Portal computer voice) "Oh no... I.. am.. sad.. I ordered a brand new computer... this sucks..." lol!
I have called twice already today on the automated line for my order status and it's been in boxing all day lol!
Oh well... I'll be fine.. as long as it ships THIS week... because my ESD is the 29th of Oct
If it ships next Monday I'mma be mad because how long does boxing really take? C'mon
Glad to know there are a couple more US buyers here
J-Bytes: Hehe... I plan on taking it to a coffee shop with my girlfriend like Starbucks or Barnes and Noble and have people say, "A nerd, with a NICE laptop... AND a GORGEOUS girlfriend?!?! Wow!"
And so it's true.
Also, I'll let you guys know which screen I get. -
This discussion board has been great and has helped during the long wait. I'll definitely post pics from various angles for y'all
-
This just capped off a full week of re-formatting the SSD's and re-installing the software to no avail. A total waste of my time not to mention the sheer frustration of getting nowhere in the end.
The writing was on the wall when I pressed the power button for the first time when I got the machine and was greeted with errors and a message telling me the OS (Windows Vista Ultimate) couldn't load.
Then of course were less significant problems such as: a chipped lid, scuff-marks on the lid near the latch, a VERY noisy optical drive, and the light bleeding from the bottom edge of the screen.
None of these issues is acceptable to me when I have forked out $7,700 for a laptop. I must have got the "lemon" since it refuses to boot-up some of the time and seems to come up with different errors no matter how often the software (OS) is re-installed.
I need a laptop that will support dual-link DVI. At this point in time my options are to purchase an Apple 17-inch MacBook Pro or wait a few months for the quality of manufacture of the 1730 to (hopefully) improve. At present I think Dell is focused on quantity not quality. Hence the problems with my machine.
Meanwhile, I will continue to use my Inspiron 9100 (sans backlighting) in conjunction with the 30" monitor.
I too wish those of you with the 1730 a trouble-free and enjoyable ownership. -
Congratulations MrBubbles on the arrival of your machine. Compared to my old Inspiron 9100 the DVD drive is really noisy. It feels a step down in quality compared to the older optical drives. But that's just my opinion.
If the rest of the machine is up to spec and you don't mind the clunks, I'm sure it'll be great. -
-
There's always gonna be a precent that get DOA's.. -
Sorry to hear your frustrations Karanjit which ultimately lead you to returning your machine. I can't imagine how you feel.
It has taken me about 4 hours to fully set up the laptop. I don't know why SLI is disabled out of the box? The optical drive is the only complaint so far, apart from the noise it occasionally pauses for a minute, WTF!
Played Oblivion at the highest settings possible (except no AA) with OOO 1.3 installed and it runs @ 35-45 fps. -
Hey Mr Bubbles congrats, which xps did you get?, could you post some pics of the lid with the light on. -
Got the saphire blue T7500 with 4bg ram. Sorry, don't have a digi cam at the moment.
This DVD drive is really starting to chung now, any ideas why it's not spinning like it should? -
what brand drive is it
-
It's a TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-L632H ATA Device.
-
I actually gave up on a install just now because it got slower and slower. It doesn't sound like the disc is spinning at all, just jumping forward then stop, forward a bit more then stop. Pretty weird.
-
I've just done a re-boot and the drive seems to be working ok now. Go figure...
Confirmed, it's working a 1,000 times faster now! -
did a quick search and it seems to be a common problem with that brand TSST(toshiba samung storage technology), samsung seems to make alot low quality stuff, first the lcd and now the drive. I suggest you call dell and see if you can get it replaced.
-
hey mr bubbles, am not a wiz with computers or laptops for that matter and am wondering if it is hard to get the laptop up and running as mine is coming tomoro night, the delivery guy just rang me to confirm, does it come with all the soft ware installed and is it hard to set up the SLi, or does it come allready enabled, any help would be appreciated, i was hoping you could just open it and go
guess i was wrong.
-
Congrats on the new machine mr bubbles!
Mine has finally entered production so it shouldn't take too long to ship! -
Hey, i am tossing up whether or not to get a M1730 now as i am a little worried about how quick it chews through the battery.. Just curious as to how long the battery lasts doin stuff like web browsing etc.. Otherwise i may just get a PS3 and a cheaper laptop..
-
for work purposes i have IBM thinkpad t60, thats a quality work machine, it lasts around 2 hours like typing in word docs.
is there a problem with plugging in the laptop's power to that socket in the wall you got? -
-

-
Even though your laptop will have everything installed it is by no means turn on and go. The laptop will take for ages to start up the first time. To enable SLI (you will have to do this), right click on the desktop and go the NVIDA control panel, click on SLI and reboot.
Nortons a bit of a pain, it asks you to approve of everything before it does it.
Games work excellent! However, every game I've loaded so far freezes when quitting. So I have to End Process (End Task won't work either).
Below is a dot-point rundown on my system.
- Yes there is light bleed at the bottom of the screen but it isn't bad.
- The webcam is good.
- Speakers are good.
- DVD drive is a bit temperamental.
- Tiger Woods 08 won't install, only goes to 44%!
- MS Office 2007 works perfectly.
- My MS Intelli mouse works perfectly (didn't work well with XP).
- I copied a DVD no problems (it didn't mind that).
- The fan is quiet even when its going.
- No CPU whine.
- LEDs aren't too annoying, they're quite nice actually.
- Works with my external USB2 HDD.
- You get some nice ear plug headphones.
- The keyboard looks COOL!!!! Especially in the dark (I happen to by typing away without the lights on now
).
- Oblivion, Doom, Farcry1 all work perfect (except when quitting).
That's about it for me, I'm about to try sync with Bluetooth and my Ipaq. I'll let you guys know how it goes. If the DVD plays up any more I'll call Dell for a replacement for sure. -
thanks heaps, most of that stuff sounds bearable!! some of the things are a bit annoying for how much i payed for it, but sounds pretty good, i mainly want to play games such as company of heroes and medal of honour:airborne, cant wait to get it, only about 24 hrs to go
cant wait to see the keyboard to, night time gaming is now all thats in my mind.
-
Thanks for the info mr bubbles... the quitting problem sounds like a driver issue or conflict somewhere
I've been looking at a rather nice Plextor or Pioneer slot loaded notebook drive for quietness. The Pioneer is only around 25 GBP so a pretty good price indeed and much better quality than the TSST Corp one supplied!
Hope you manage to fix the quitting problem! -
-
Remember to install the new driver everyone! It should significantly boost your GPU. Think its 167.25! And its OC'able!
-
how do you install the new driver?
-
WOW, mine has now moved to Delivery Prep and I have my packing slip so should be shipped today!
I hope I have it before the weekend but it's more likely to be next week now -
http://www.tcmagazine.com/forums/index.php?automodule=downloads&showfile=298 -
congrats bubbles, i get mine tomorrow....cheers
ps. what drivers are you using? stock or the ones the guys above are talking about? -
2. you cant quit games properly? doesnt that annoy you? if it was me, i'd be looking at getting this fixed ASAP - thats bloody annoying. as someone said earlier, probably try updating all your system drivers, particularly the video driver - update that, if it doesnt work, i'll be a little worried. -
I only have the stock 156.22, I will install the new drivers and let you guys know how they go.
-
-
My wife wan'ts me to take a break and watch the 'Chasers War on Everything' so I'll start the download of the new drivers and install in half an hour.
-
Well my machine has been dispatched now so fingers crossed it will be this week!
-
Mmmm, the 167.26 driver is not compatible with the M1730 and the 8700 SLI.
