can someone with the laptop put a damn video on you tube i am soooo bored of watching the same one over and over!!!
-
Will the two 8700GT's ever become faster at games than the two 7950GTX's? I mean its just weird that they are an upgrade from the 7 series, but actually do worse at the moment. I know that the 8700GT is DX10 capable, and will its real force shine when most games become DX10 available?

I spoke to Dell today regarding my LCD panel issues. See previous posts from myself and others such as linkin_parker92 and puremind for more info on the issue.
I spoke to Roy who was very thorough and listened well. This is what we subsequently found out.
No one in Australia or South East Asia has an XPS1730 with anything other than a Samsung panel.
He could arrange a tech to come out and replace the panel but it would only be another Samsung. He had a drop down list where he could choose which panel to send the tech out with but LG and Sharp were greyed out.
He said it was possible that Dell might start to use the LG or Sharp panels at some stage but this was purely speculation and he could give no guarantee or time frame.
He has updated my record with the complaint as to my dissatisfaction re: the panel's light leakage and poor light/colour distribution (certainly compared to my DELL 2707FPW, 2407FPW, 2405FPW, 2001FP and Asus F3Jm panel). He advised that the more people that raise the issue the more likely the LG panel will be introduced.
He advises I could keep checking in every month and if/when they have LG panels available for the 1730 I could have a tech come out and install the LG panel.
SO long story short everyone in Australia will get a Samsung panel - atleast until something changes.
Anyone in Australia or SEA that has an XPS 1730 with an LG or Sharp panel PLEASE LET US KNOW!
The way I see it I have 4 choices now.
1. Demand a replacement XPS 1730 even though it will be a Samsung panel in the hope that my panel is just a particularly bad one. I don't think this is the case as my wife thinks I am being pedantic - which I am - BUT I have to look at the thing all day it better be as good as it gets!
2. Return the XPS 1730 and get a refund.
3. Buy an XPS 1730 from the Dell.com website in the States and hope I get an LG panel.
4. Live with it.
The most likely two option are 2 and 4.
If I did go with option 2 then I would need to find an equivalent machine for an equivalentish price.
Anyway that's about it for now.
Oh for some good news.
Half Life 2 Lost Coast Video Stress Test - 1920x1200 with everything on High ,4 x MSAA and 16 x AF got average 102.71FPS which is pretty damn good I reckon! -
-
Damn thats some nice FPS's on HL2!
-
lets just pray he has a bad one!! and the rest of us have reasonable screens, no offence mr greenfingers, just kinda sucky feelin knowin u cant do nuthin about it as mine is coming very soon.
-
You'll get a Samsung.
Can you let me know what you think of your panel you when you get it?
I stuck a pic of mine up quite a few posts back. Basically it has light leakage about an inch wide running across the entire base of panel. It's extremely disconcerting sometimes. -
Can you let us know of your experience when you get it? -
Hi guys.
I accessed the BIOS and overclocked my CPU speed to 3.00Ghz
and refreshed the windows expereience and guess what happened!
Just one modification caused the RAM to increase

hey, just got a call from the delivery line and my m1730 is coming this thursday between 4pm-8pm, its pretty funny seeing i didnt pay for after hours delivery and am still getting it, feel sorry for the people who payed the xtra 50 bucks for it, oh and could someone tell me if overclocking is worth the risk and will it damage the computer and also how to do it?
-
mr greenfingers Notebook Consultant
lee im sorry to hear you dont have a chance of an lg pannel im in uk and iv still got my fingers crossed to be honest if i get a samsung with the same light leekage i will be sending it back and if i cant have it with a lg then i will be getting a rerund and going with an alienware m9750 id much rather have the dell but the screen is the second most important thing on the laptop to me after the performance i just could not live with it not for £2600 anyway
-
mr greenfingers Notebook Consultant
also can you overclock the 2.4ghz modle and if so what to
thanks -
The overclocking of the 2.8ghz model was tested by Nvidia and caused no problems but no one tested the lower-end model.
however you can try tho by browsing thru the BIOS but it may cause major heating problems because the CPU cant reach up the process -
My order is still in pre-production
I was told they were awaiting one part but it looks as though that's not arrived yet
Anyone else in the UK got their's yet? -
linkin, im gettin it with the extreme processor, should i overclock it and how do you do it?
-
Just go into the performance page before Windows starts up. There should be a slider that you can use to crank up the clock frequency. But remember, do it in increments. Even though Dell has said it is OC'able up to 3,2 (3,4 is also possible), each laptop is unique. But you SHOULD be able to get it up to 3,4 without heat problems.

Soon after the pc boots up, hit F2 in the first screen it appears.
There will be words on the right hand corner sayin about what the each action do (the f2 and f12?) but jsut hit f2. then the BIOS appears, then usin ur arrow keys, go to advanced settin and there you will see a CPU overclocking support. You may wish to juice it up to 3.4Ghz too.
Have fun
I tried the Half Life 2: Lost Coast Video Stress Test
and i got a score of 117.9 FPS!!!!! Isnt this amazing!!!???

Can someone PLEASE post a vid or slideshow with their m1730?
I'm realling looking forward to a video review of it. I'm expecting mine the 30th, but it would be great to see some more vids of it in the meantime.
-
People in London can get the maxed out $5000 config for 2500 pounds. wow thats awesome. -
linkin_parker92, do you have any pics of the back your m1730with lights on, I have been trying to find pics of all versions with the lights on.
-
The anticipation is killing me... Just checked the order status and to my amazement, it's one week ahead of the original scheduled ship date and is already enroute to Toronto - Canada. I'll have it tomorrow. As soon as I familiarize myself with it, I'll post up some screenshots and youtube clip. Can't wait. Will also post up the Windows Experience Index score for those who are curious.

OK just got back and am finally able to get to use mine a little more, although i am currently at work so i cannot play around to much.
Anyway to those interested i did do a clean install of vista and it did not improve performance noticably. Not sure it is that needed, although i always like to start off fresh.
The one thing it did do was i lost all of the custom dell wallpapers that come with the system and cant seem to find them on any of the disks. Does anyone have any ideas on that? I actually did not mind a few of them.
Other than that things are working well, havent had time to do anymore benchmarks or testing as most of my time was spent installing software for work etc. -
But ya top of the line system is 5000 dollars, and thats about 2500 pounds -
Am really looking forward to hear what you have got to say more about it. Which LCD panel did you get with your m1730? -
I got the LG, i posted some details and numbers last Thursday night, along with a few pics of the screen. There have however been a lot of posts since then. I think it was around page 36 if your interested.
-
I'll just look through your personal posts.
-
Hey everyone! I have been with this thread quite some time now, and I'm so excited to say that I finally received my XPS M1730 today! I will be opening it and setting it up this coming Thursday. Once it is all up and running, pics, vids, and a full length review will be posted right here. Please stay patient; I will try my best to get a comprehensive review to all of you as soon as possible. After Thusrsday (once it's opened and in my hands), please don't hesitate to ask me questions, whether it be by PM or right here.
Best of luck to the rest of you who haven't received your M1730 yet. I'm sure it'll arrive soon.Cheers.

For those of you who might be interested I have spoken to Dell again today regarding my screen. Spoke to Darius and Shu who are both excellent. I asked whether they could ship an LG - LPL0032 from the US or Europe and have that fitted to my XPS1730. They couldn't do it. The only option I was given was to buy the XPS1730 from the US and specify the LG screen.
I am returning my XPS 1730 for a refund.
Darius advised the LG's might come through to Malaysia within the next month or two or more and he would email when they arrived. In the meantime I have my old notebook (Asus F3Jm) to keep me up and running. Otherwise I am open to suggestions on decent alternatives to the XPS 1730 (not that I could find them before).
So there you have it. Australia and South East Asia do not currently get anything other than Samsung screens.
I found this to be an interesting thread in regards to the issues pertaining to the Samsung screens.
I wish all of you guys in Australia the very best with yours when they arrive. I hope you aren't as fussy as me. -
i will receive mine next monday, i will let you know about the screen. will most pictures.
am i the only one getting the bone white? -

yeah mines coming this thursday hope the screen isnt un bearable, if the problem is notciable but small i will not worry to much about it as i just want to play games and u just stare at the center of the screen
am i the only one getting Sapphire blue? -
mr greenfingers Notebook Consultant
yes wildog but if its noticable it will constantly draw your eye away from the centre and why shud anyone have to put up with anything when you are paying this kind of money for a laptop???
-
Good luck with yours! -
My order has today finally reached production according to the status page, so UK production must have started at last.
-
Is the samsung screen really that bad, I'm kind of worried but then again I am going to be moving from a 5 year old matte 17inch crap ass lcd from my desktop so it hopefully won't bother me but I'll let u guys know when I get it on Thrusday
-
Jesus the Nordic dell support are SO crappy! Really hope to get the LG lcd, but I don't know anyone from Scandinavia who has already got one :S Does anyone know if the ones delivered to the UK guys is the same as here in Denmark/Scandinavia??
-
yeah if it becomes bloody unbearable i will get a new screen, i might wait a while though until dell fully except the crappy screens and come to your house to replace them
as soon as i get it im not gonna put it back on the damn ship, ive been waiting way to long for it.
-
i agree with you "wildog" i would just continuously be telling them the samsung screen has light leakage (if it happens with all samsung screens) and keep getting them to replace them...
if they refuse theres always complete care to help replace the system, and i am sure you could get creative in making one inactive to get it replaced lol... (obviously not recommended lol)
after a few screen replacements you would hope they will get the picture and realize that there is a problem with the screen and they may eventually replace it with a good lg one later down the track....
rather than sending the whole system back like "leebaldock" is going to do as I dont think there is anything out there similar in performance in the market place for the same price with warranty similar to complete care as dell has the xps m1730 for
but i can see where he is coming from... spending 3-5k on a laptop gaming machine... it should be perfect from day one with everything being in tip top condition
to sum up i would just hold onto the system and get the screen replaced if/when they start the LG roll out in Aus.
my 2c -
Did anyone get any Sharp?
