Hey guys check this out, though bad quality due to youtube. I´m running Crysis with a heavily modified CFG at 1680x1050 with frame ranging from 25 in firefights to 40 running outside dependin on location. And the game looks really great, more near to High than Medium settings :)

    Take a look.

No not yet, but they have to come out with something very soon, especially if Nvidia have it advertised on their site.

Nvidia dont seem to have the drivers for it though, well not on their site anyway. I guess it would be a metter of using the Dell ones to start with, like we had to with the 8700m's??

I'll ring my account manager at work tomorrow, and let you guys know what he says....

OMFG It's real, we better be able to upgrade from the start, otherwise Dell is going to get a hell of a lot of complaints and people sending their current 1730s back... I'm planning on getting a replacement anyway, the technicians have screwed up mine and a replacement give them no excuse to not give me an 8800GTX

What kind of 3dmark06 score would SLI 8800mGTX get?
Once I get these babies, i will be able to play team fortress 2 with textures on very high and not on medium. :)
and I should be getting $2000 in the mail soon, as my high school refunds the deposit we paid when I was enrolled. 08 is looking to be a lucky year for me :)
Oh... and I just made the University course that I wanted as well :) by 1.25 marks

Guessing they will be an upgrade option for when u configure buying one. In that case I'll say +$850 on the configure laptop page from the 8700 (Australian dollars). If thats the case I'm hoping they give existing owners at least $100 off.

Vader, call them both and get them into a bidding war (probably best to wait until the 8800s are actually an option on the dell site tho ;)

Also remember the warranty! Only Dell send a nice man out to YOU next day if something goes wrong unlike every other gaming laptop company where you have the hassle of sending it back and waiting for who knows how long....deal breaker for me personally.

    Yeh Im at work ;)

Ive just rung my account manager. He hadnt heard anything about it just yet, so it may be a few days too soon. But he has gone to find out and is gonna give me a ring back in a bit.

Ok he rang me back just as I wrote that!!

He said that the 8800GTX IS NOW IN THE SYSTEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    WooooHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

However, it was being priced as £3-4000!! lol. Obviously a mistake in his system, either that or that wa sthe price of a new laptop.

It should go on as a seperate product (the card alone) in the next day or two, so he is gonna give me a ring back with the price as soon as its available. He said he'll check at lunchtime, and then again tomorrow morning.

BUT - bad news as well. THERE IS NO UPGRADE PROGRAM. He said Dell dont do that - since Im a business customer Im not sure if that applies to home users as well. My guess is it does. YOU CAN NOT trade in your old card. You need to buy the new card and have a techy upgrade it for you - although Ive asked if I can just upgrade it myself!

Hopefully he should be getting me a price for just the card very soon, and if its reasonable I'll snap it up ;)

I'll let you know when he gets back to me.

With no overclocking I was getting a 3Dmark06 score of around 8700 (drivers 167.51).

If I got the 8800, I'd probably have to stick with Dell drivers since I want my BD-RE drive to work properly - well at least until Nvidia bring out the proper 8800m drivers for SLI!

If so, Im assuming I should be getting much better game performance through it anyway, even with stock drivers? What kind of 3DMark06 score should we be looking at?

I hope the SLI is stable this time though!

great ifti. Ive just come off the phone into someone on tech support department and he said similar thats its coming out with 8800m gtx but they didnt have a concrete date not even an "in a few days" like you said.

You gonna be hitting 14000-15000 easily. Overclocking about 16000. Just a guess.Only time will tell.

Well lets put it this way. Once its out with 8800m SLI just compare it to the other top end machines. I mean with this u get the added bonus of the LOGITECH LCD Panel which looks well cool and u get the AGEIA Physx PPU aswell. The m17x will also be nice but this imo ill prefer over the m17x.

I like other stuff about this laptop as well - may be small stuff, but it makes a difference to me - the backlit keyboard, the LCD, the beautiful screen, etc. It all adds up.

We should be able to run most games using max settings and at 1920x1200 now! ;)

Yea correctamundo 1gig ram but there both mirrored as each card renders half of the screen while the other card does the other half.Hell yea max settings in most games at 1900x1200 is well possible easily with 40fps.

Crysis is another story id say with high settings and 1280x1024 30fps easily.

Nah not with my current config for Crysis, easily 1920x1200 with my great config and High shaders :) Damn I run Crysis now in 1680x1050 25-40fps with that config and the game almost looks as good as High settings :)

that'll be like £400 over here in the UK - plus we get screwed on taxes etc, so probably more!

EDIT: They havent got it on the UK site yet :(

Considering you have to pay more for the 8800GTX, I doubt they will send a replacement system with it. Thats like returning your system with a DVD drive, and them sending you back a system with a bluray drive. Dell will only send back a system of the same spec as you sent in to them. They wont send you an upgrade for free.

You can either argue your case and ask for the upgrade as compensation, or a gesture of goodwill, or you can pay the extra price and get them to upgrade it while they have your system, so you get it back all pre-installed.

I got the XPS m1730 backpack when I ordered my system, but now I come to think of it, I'll never really be taking the system out anywhere - its just a desktop replacement at home.

Its a pretty nice backpack - lots of extra storage compartments for bits and pieces, disc holder, a pouch for your mobile phone, extra padding for your back, etc

Do you think I'd get anything if I try to sell the backpack, or shouldnt I bother??

I guess only way for current users to upgrade would be going through spare parts paying an arm and a leg.

spare parts is notorious for overpricing.

I hope we will be able to trade in the 8700's, but I doubt it since Dell cant really sell them on in new laptops....
