The viewing angles are great....battery power depends on what mode you are using (power saving / performance) but am showing a little under three hours. It was on my desk for about 45 minutes and when i put it up in my back, the counter was warm like my previous laptop (latitude d531), which is very tolerable for me having it on my lap...this is in power saving mode though. I plan to use the "performance" mode for graphic/video work, and i do not intend on performing those tasks on my lap.

I was getting worried too; I had my phone in my hand with the Dell CS # ready to dial when the FedEx guy showed up. I must have gotten lucky, because I'm not finding any dead pixels or dust either. Have faith, don't worry. going to experiment with quadbooting later (XP, Vista, 7, Ubuntu). :D

careful now moosey, i'm not sure if that'll fit flush in the express slot as you expect it.

I got the travel remote which fits flush in the 1330 express card slot perfectly, but in my 1340 it sticks out and falls out even when 'clicked in'

    something to note everyone:

I got a replacement 1340, to replace the one I got with dead pixels and wobbly feet

this is now the 3rd 1340 I've had a chance to play with, and still, it had dead pixels, and wobbly feet...and, this!

The screen was of a different color temperature than the other two, it was the LED screen - the same on all 3, but this one had a "yellow" hue rather than a blue hue

then I checked the battery - the first two were made in japan, the 3rd was made in china...

Seems dell is sourcing different part manufactures for both batteries, and the actual crystal panel that is used in the lcd

suffice it to say that the blue hue panel, or, cooler color temperature panel - looks a LOT better...just interesting to know that all 1340 screens are NOT created equal

***update: I just noticed, it appears the "warmer" color screen has slightly less backlight bleed than the "cooler" screen, both have the classic led backlight ripples at the bottem of the screen

Dells site, tested them and it removed the sli option in energy settings, but its still works with the old ones, ie change to energy saver to only use the 9400 or change to high performance to enable the 9500 again.

does this mean that you no longer have the OPTION to toggle it on or off (its automatic and you have no controll over it), or that its now always on (no matter what setting its on)?

    PEOPLE!"

The hybrid SLI option is determined by a registry entry.

Enter the registry editor and navigate to the following:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\Hybrid

Change the entry HidePowerSetting to a 0.

Restart your computer and viola. You can now alter your power profiles with the Hybrid SLI settings.

I've picked it up and used it for a while, like it a lot!! :D

About the wobbly feet that many users mentioned. How is it wobbly?

I can feel a tiny tiny tiny "wobble" or "movement" when i lay down my left hand on the palmrest (sorry for the bad english).

I will contact dell, i think. But is the feet on the left side replacable? Or do they replace the entire unit?

Does anyone know if we can purchase an additional 90w power supply that comes with the laptop?

I would ideally like to have the same model that comes with the laptop, but I suppose any would do.

    90w Adapters by Dell

    Thanks,

    ALRIGHT.

First. You DOUCHERS! I've been roaming the internet for a good resource on the Studio XPS 13 for the past 3-4 days and have found jack. Turns out there was a 170+ page thread on it right under my nose, but the bloody thing was called 1340! Man. lolz. Shows you how much I know about Dells. I figured this thread was for the old 1330 or whatever it's called but a slightly newer model or something, not the brand new Studio XPS 13.

I've read about 100 pages, starting from about page 70 onwards. Very interesting stuff. You Dell guys are fun man, way more animated than the HP guys. The guy from New Zealand is a riot. I was laughing my rear off over a few of his comments- odds of two people having the same exact random brand as# enclosure was crazy by the way. Some guys freaking out over OS installs. Others breaking the bottom of their laptops. lolz. Ahhh man. This was a fun read, I must say. Very informative as well.

Seems like the heat issues aren't as bad as some of the reviews out there make it seem to be. I will probably go with the integrated GPU just to be safe- seeing as how my 8400 GS blew up on me, not to mention my AMD chip melting on a laptop prior to that, I am overheat-phobic... bADDD man. BAD. Oh, and the SSD seeing as how the 320gb are 7200rpm which can't be good for heat. Still don't know how much cooler SSDs are and I really haven't found any actual information on temperature variation, but hopefully I will be able to find that information when I get closer to purchasing. I probably will have to go ask in the Hardware section at some point, but I don't feel like getting yelled at yet... lolz.

ANyway. Just wanted to let you guys know you have been very f'n enjoyable man. Not to mention informative and helpful...

Oh, and a thought, be great to see some reviews of this laptop seeing as how many people, many highly highly informed people at that, seem to own this laptop. I read the one review in the PDF, which was actually really good(needs temperature readings though :D), but would obviously be great to read some more, especially with the 9400 + SSD configuration. Basically my point is that considering how popular and "great" this laptop is, the # of reviews don't do it justice. Just a thought. :)

    Take care...

Just received my new SXPS 1340!

Major issue though. It came with BIOS A02 and I figured I'd update it to the latest, A04, from Dell's website. I started the update and it seemed to be going fine but once it got to 'Processing block 1 of 32' it seemed to freeze and now it doesn't seem to be doing anything. It's been sitting there for about 15 minutes and I don't know what to do

Anyone else experience this? Does the BIOS update usually take a while?

Congrats! :) I cannot help you with that, sorry. But i would appreciate if you would take a look if yours a little, little bit wobbly? Are all four legs standing directly on the desk/table?
I recieved mine yesterday and one of the left legs is a tiny different from the other legs..

Good news! I left it for over an hour to see if it would complete the BIOS update but it was just frozen so I called up Dell and they had me remove the battery and power supply then hold down the power button for 30 seconds then reconnect everything and it worked fine. We checked the BIOS setup screen and the BIOS had even been updated :D

As for the wobbly feet, it seems to be the same here. There is a very *very* slight wobble, I think the bottom left foot is ever so slightly higher than the other three. It's such a small wobble that I'm not bothered by it. To be honest, if I hadn't read about it previously on this board I probably wouldn't have noticed it.

That sounds good to hear, maybe i'm also going to update the BIOS later..

Yeah, i know, if i haven't read about this "wobble" i would never noticed it, and im not really bothered about it either, it's so tiny.. so i think i'll let it go and just enjoy this beauty as it is. :D

    No, it's usually fast.

Hopefully it hasn't actually started processing yet and the old BIOS is still there. Try holding the power button for 6+ seconds to force shut it down if it's frozen. That might not work because the BIOS controls the power button. If not, you'll need to unplug it and remove the battery (or wait a couple hours) to make it stop. Then hopefully the old BIOS is still there so you can start up again.

Happened to me when I tried to do a BIOS update from Windows 7 (don't be dumb like me and do this, people). It hadn't overwritten the BIOS yet so it was fine after restarting, just not updated. Plus you get that horror-movie feeling when you realise it's impossible to turn the computer off. :)

Also, for long threads like this, if anyone's not aware, you know you can change how many posts are displayed per page in your user control panel? It could be painful to read this at 10 posts per page.

Can anyone tell me the part number for the second video card (I think it is a 9200 GS). I ordered mine without the option and decided later that I wanted it. I called and talked to my sales rep, but he couldn't seem to find the part.

Hello, I am new here, wanting to become a member for quite some time, well now is the time, after purchasing the NEW Dell Studio XPS 13 & Mainly because of the NEW Dell Latitude E4200. I actually returned the NEW Dell Studio XPS 13 for the NEW Dell Latitude E4200. After the NEW Dell Studio XPS 13 being faulty the first time and then ordering the other one and then ultimately canceling it due to the shipping delay. It was a good system its just I got tired of waiting and the uncertainty.

Which one of the pegs is longer/shorter than the others and is the front 2 the same. if they are then the 9cell will fix the wobble issue since the back 2 pegs wont be used.

so.... wat sort of battery life are you getting? also, what kind of battery life were you getting with the 6-cell? In power-saver... just browsing the net with some music playing... u know typical light-usage sort of thing....

it actually looks much smaller than the 12-cell on the hp... the 12-cell on that sort of made the dv2500 huge-sh... but this really doesn't seem to have that downside to it...

well, on my 6cell doing just normal stuff i was getting 2-2.5-3hrs on "dell recommended" mode.. i never used power saver.. im still charging the 9-cell currently @ 86% charged. im going to run it all the way down to where it shuts off then do a full charge before i post estimated time results and such..

keep in mind on my 6cell i normally had the bluetooth/wpan disabled with only wifi activated, keyboard light on 2, brightness half way maybe 1 under half. always have my nano vx mouse reciever plugged into usb/esata port.

yes the battery is deff wayyyyy smaller then the massive 12-cell hp thats on my dv6000, ill post a pic of both laptops flipped upside down for a comparison later tonight. i am noticing the laptop is running MUCH cooler with this battery --makes sense tho because of how the bottom will get air under it now.

k early results are positive as hell!

    web browsing..some music playing..

6.5hrs.. now remember i havent done a full drain yet.. so this might increase.

    my settings are..

    bluetooth off
    wifi on
    wpa off

    mid brightness
    keyboard 1

Just pulled the trigger, mine is estimated to be delivered by the 24th of March. :D

P8700 processor, the rest pretty much as it comes. My EPP discount covered the upgrade plus 25 dollars. Total of $1068.chg straight from Dell (plus tax, of course.)

Will I be as pleased as I know I will???

I just read about the oil picking up quickly on the 1340's which I absolutely hate. My 1530 had zero signs of oil after a full years use. Are there any keyboards out there now that can be swapped into the 1340 chassis?

I can get just about 4 hours battery on just the 6-cell with wireless/bt off, 9200 off, screen on about 1/3 brightness, and SSD. Just typing etc, nothing intensive obviously.

You got the WLED LCD too ya? Seems like it's a free upgrade with EPP...

What sort of temperatures are you getting? If you could post an HWmonitor screenie that would be fantastic.... with the 9200 disabled.... thanks mate.

Oh.. and how's the SSD? I take it you have the 128gb? Any stuttering or any of that junk? And in your opinion, is it with the extra cash?

I got the laptop as an insurance replacement when my 1530 got stolen, and I had the money available (minus about US$50) to upgrade to the SSD (128GB). It was also pretty cheap for the first few days after the 1340 came out, then Dell suddenly doubled the price for the upgrade.

If I was paying for it instead of the insurance I wouldn't have got it since they're so much more expensive, but it is a fantastic drive. Certainly no problems with it, plus I seem to get tons extra battery life.

My temps are fine, around 35-40 for the CPU and 50-55 for the GPUs at idle. On 9400 only it's the same, the fan just runs less often.

Think I'm about to get mad, as my build sheet does not mention the screen upgrade. I hate not getting free stuff that I paid for!!! Seriously, it's annoying, as I hate being lied to.

This may be a bad start...and of course, I noticed this five minutes after the call center closed...
