Idle I get 4 green or yellow bars (40-1000) and then 1 red bar (about 4000).
After a full reinstall with every necessary updated driver installed and wireless/bluetooth disabled I got the same pattern but the 4 bars between spikes actually stayed consistently around the 40-80 mark. Spikes were still always every 5th bar and around 4000.

Well, I have formatted my studio XPS 13, but I cant get the bluetooth drivers from Dell working. It installs a Windows Vista Feature Pack for Wireless which is filed under Bluetooth drivers for the studio XPS 13 on Dell's website. Installed it with no difference.
Does anyone have the Vista X64 drivers for Bluetooth?
Kind Regards -
um.. use your drivers cd thats what i did and it works just fine
-
Untouchab1e, you should also install the bluetooth application from dell's website.

Hey guys, I am new here, and am on my fourth Dell, (second laptop). Aside from all the issues I have had in the past month I really do love this machine. I had to do a clean install to stop the freezing issues, and it has been running like a charm. Until yesterday...my speakers stopped working, I went through tier-3 online XPS Premium support, and less then 24 hours later a technician was at my door! He replaced the whole top end of the machine (as the speakers are attached to the cover) and still no dice, so he will be back in a few days with a new motherboard. We shall see...
-
well, dell was going to just send me a new 4gb stick of ram except i told them about the wobbly feet and they said that they are just going to replace the entire computer.
Unfort, i feel like the computer is finally working fine (only running on 2gb ram). i might just ask them to send me the new parts. What do you guys think? -
-
After the nonsense I had to deal with I would have assumed exchanging my laptop for another one would have been cheaper then sending a technician out twice to replace two different items! I wonder if it is only the US's tech support that is this stubborn? Haa!
-
wierd...mine had wobbly feet. now i just checked it again and they are not.
hmmmm. what did i do eh! -

I have an idea
Once thing that may be in common with all these machines having the DPC Latency issue is TSST DVD±RW drives.
Would anyone be willing to try and either disable or physically remove the drive (I know it will be tougher because it is slot load but it can be done with some patience) and test with DPC tool to see if it resolves the issue.
These drives have been a problem for a few folks and issues have been resolved by swapping them out with other makes. If this is it this notebook could be a really awesome package capable of just about anything besides heavy gaming. -
Thanks in advance! -
Just thought I'd write in now that I've had this system for a few days. IT'S FRICKEN AWESOME!!

You will just have to provide proof of ownership.

Thanks cin, but i found out it really was the wireless adapter's problem. I am using my desktop wireless usb adapter then my dpclat change fromm 11 red bars to the same pattern as 4 green bars and 1 red bars around 3000. I don't think i need to reinstall anymore. It's the stupid wireless 1515 adapter's problem.

Guys, how do you install latest video drivers from NVIDIA site? The setup keeps telling me that I don't have any compatible hardware.
-
you dont, you install them from dell or get a modded ini file
-
Hey everyone, just curious if anyone else has found this on their 1340.
1. Whenever I press the eject button, it automatically alt-tabs to another open window.
2. In HWMonitor, there is no temp gage for the hard drive (250gb 7200rpm Hitachi)
Can't seem to figure these two out. -
Not sure on #1, have never used Alt+Tab for anything, so not sure hat it even does, and it is two in the morning and I don't feel like Googling...
N/M, I tried it (got out of my lazy faze), and I can assure you that my eject button does not exhibit that behavior. It simply ejects the disc, even if I have the drive's Explorer window open at the time of eject. -
Thanks for the link... downloaded Crystal, looks pretty good.
As for the other issue, anytime I press eject, a different window pops up on my screen. Strange. -
Hey guys, I am successfully dual booting Windows 7 (build 7057) and Vista, it was actually painless and 7 is actually quite fast. No driver conflicts so far, I am pretty happy with it overall!
-
Where can you find out the manufacture of the SXPS 13 monitor? It only says generic pnp monitor. HD: Wester Digital. Ram: Samsung. DVD rom: Toshiba samsung technology.
-
Folks...I went ahead despite the fact that everyone has had so many issues.
I went to Best Buy last night and picked up the XPS 1340
My main purpose is to use this laptop with Reason 4 and Sonar 8 paired to a M-Audio profire 610 interface. This laptop was just to good of a deal for me to pass up. I am fairly experienced with computers and have built a few whitebooks from ASUS and Intel in the past including the more recent Santa Rosa platforms.
I brought the book home and first thing first...loaded the latest A04 BIOS.
Then I loaded up a fresh copy of 32-bit Vista business (this is our Volume liscence) and and loaded all the most recent drivers available from Dell.
Loaded up Reason and Sonar 8 and then went to testing. DPC latency is exactly the same as other reported 4 green then 1 red bar.
I removed everything I could from the notebook besides RAM and CPU as well as disabling everything I could while being able to boot in the BIOS which had no effect on DPC.
I also purchased a DYNEX firewire 400/800 s port express card which installs fine but still does not let me record without pops and clicks. I was hoping this little card would yield better results but it did not.
I am about to try and install XP SP3 to see if that will get me anywhere but I'm afraid this is something Dell must address...and given that their notebooks have had a history of these issue being fixed 90% of the time by the end-user community I'm not too hopeful. The Nvidia MCP79 chipset doesnt help either since it so new.
This book is nice and fast but ti does run HOT! even with the latest BIOS and while doing minimal tasks. I'm not sure if I feel like having to undervolt this to to the temps of the Lenovo U330 or Sony SR and Z series...rant
I have 2 options at this point.
1. Return and buy a more expensive Sony VAIO
2. Try and find a USB based device like the E-MU 0404 or something that people have stated works despite the latency issue -
I cannot believe that you, justanothercrowd, just posted three threads with the same words. Anyway, I found out my led is LGD0145 which is very common for the sxps users. Maybe it's LG? Toshiba? but definately not samsung.
-
Justanothercrowd, if you get XP to installed could you please post the DPC latency? If it doesn't have the red bars I'll put more effort into getting it to work on mine.
But yeah, you shouldn't cross-post the same thing in different threads. -
So my brand new 1340 finally arrived. The first thing I did was try to reinstall with 32-bit Windows XP. After the first reboot I got an error about being unable to load E:\i386\asms from the CD rom. I tried 3 different disks with no luck what so ever. Eventually google searches lead me to believe it might be the memory. So I burned and loaded memtest86. After 5 seconds of memory testing the computer rebooted. I tried again, same thing. Reboots at the same spot (%50 on the self test). I think the memory is bad.. I'm seriously considering returning the 1340 and buying a 1330.. I really want the T9600 and 1066 FSB/memory.. But the stability of the 1340 is CRAP.
-
Isn't it true if you install a 32 bit OS with 4+ gigs of ram your memory won't be accessed fully and will probably have problems?
This applies to mauvehead and justanothercrowd -
Yes this is true you will see 2.75 on the 1340 because the VGA card takes up some memory but that is still enough memory with the p8600 to zip along
-
Can anyone post the combined weight of the laptop + charger? Also the weight while its equipped with the 9 cell...
-

What's the graphics in this laptop actually? I'm a bit confused.
It's called 9500M G but when I look it up on notebookcheck the specs are different from what the reviews say. Notebookcheck says it's 9500M G dedicated + 9100M G integrated.
I've read in reviews it's actually 9400M G integrated + 9200M GS dedicated which seems like a very unusual combination and NOT what is usually referred to as 9500M G.
Or is it 9400M G dedicated + 9200M G integrated?
Can someone please clarify. Also what is the commonly accepted unified name or identifier for this type of graphics solution? Since 9500M G doesn't seem to be it. -
Did a bit more digging and can now answer myself, it's actually 9500M GE as opposed to 9500M G or GS, and it's quite an uncommon solution, it's also unfortuanately weaker than the two above. Notebookcheck doesnt have any benchmark data for it, so it's hard to say how it will run the actual games...
-
acific Assault, Dead Space, etc. As long as you can deal with less than maxed, it will run them all playably smooth.
Haven't done any actual benches, cause they are playable, and that's all that matters to me.
It'll run COD4 at 1280x800, low-medium at a playable rate. Of course, lowering res will make it even smoother, but it looks awesome, even with the lower detail settings.
Crysis needs low settings across the board, but still looks decent.
The machine is not a "gaming" laptop, but it games rather well. FWIW... -
so, ive refixed my wobble issue, i applied a small felt square to the bottom right foot and the wobble is gone, i didnt like the screw adjustment prodecure because i had to have the one screw completely unscrewed. ill take pics when im back from ATL
