Thanks. It will be my primary computer, so I want something with some decent performance. I might not be playing games or using intense software every day, but I want to have the ability to do so.
Thanks. Is that 3 hrs on the lowest settings (brightness, etc)?

latest dell drivers i scored 2109 in 3dmark 06
windows update drivers i scored 3492 in 3dmark 06.
still isnt able to run the drivers from nvidia.com for some strange reasons. -
-
Is the LED screen worth the extra money? Best buy has P8600 model with 4gb of ram and a 320gb hard drive for $899. No led screen though. It would be a lot more to get it from Dell with the led screen.
-
@crcowboyfan
I got the best buy 1340 for $899, its a great deal. I really don't think it is worth the $300+ for the led screen. In the end you will get a brighter screen and just a little better battery life. That's just my opinion, I am not saying that the led isn't better. Just not worth the price difference in this case. -
-
I worked out why my Windows 7 was freezing up, in case anyone else has the same problem. The NVIDIA drivers freeze if the 9200 is disabled and you try to enable it again. By default, it's set to disable after 4 minutes - hence leaving the computer for any length of time caused it to freeze.
You can stop the 9200 turning off in advanced power options, though I don't know how to actually fix the problem yet. Starting with both cards already on will let me use them fine. -
Just run the newest Nvidia drivers. The ones that Windows automatically finds are 181.72 I believe. The newest drivers out are 185.81. I don't know why Mysticon has had trouble, but once I placed the modified INF file in the extracted installation folder, I was able to install them. I did get the standard "this driver has not been singed message," but it all went without a hitch. This is by far the best driver I have used so far. HDMI connectivity is great and I it tested at 3694 in 3DMark06 which is the largest I have seen.
-
Thanks, I'll do that. I had downloaded them but didn't know about the modified inf to make them work.
-
What does it do? -
I had originally tried the ones on laptopvideo2go and those did not work even with the modded inf. -
You wouldn't need the modified INF for just the 9400M. The 9500M is the problem most likely because it is a very nonstandard configuration. Oh and the modified INF file is here: http://laptopvideo2go.com/drivers/win7x64/185.81 Use only the modified INF from here. I would suggest downloading the drivers straight from Nvidia.

I'm getting more and more worried about marks from the keyboard on the screen.
A soft, perfectly fitting case isn't enough. On one hand, I think those MAY just be prints from fingerprint oil as they seem to go away when I wipe the screen with a soft tissue, but on the other hand, I can't shake off the feeling that some very faint marks didn't vanish. It can be pure paranoia of course, but if I'm right, then by the time the marks are visible it's too late.
Also, has anyone else had some issues with the function keys above the keyboard? Occasionally they seem to be stuck after booting, with one or (rarely) two being brighter then the rest and completely unresponsive... -
I do not have any problems with the function keys..
The fingerprint oil is very annoying but I love this laptop so I live with cleaning it once in a while.. I do not see any marks on my screen. are you saying the keyboard is hitting your screen or something? -

Just completed installing windows 7.
For some reason the latest NVIDIA geForce 9M series (notebooks) drivers dont work well. I coulnd't switch to hybrid w/ the modfied file from the location listed below
http://laptopvideo2go.com/drivers/win7x64/185.81
I decided to get the drivers from the windows update and now it works and I can switch from regular to hybrid mode with no problems.
Anyone know why?
Also I have two missing drivers.
Coprocessor and Unknow Device
Any ideas where I can get the missing drivers? Windows update wont find them.
Thanks....! -
You can find all the drivers you need here : http://support.dell.com/support/index.aspx?~ck=pn.
Also I have noticed the same problem you have. If I install the drivers while in a profile that would put the graphics cards into performance mode, my notebook will restart with hybrid SLI enabled, but if I change to power saving mode I am unable to get back to performance mode. Right now I'm messing around with some .dll's to see if I can fix this. So far it seems like I may need to go back to the windows update drivers. Also there will be new windows update drivers. 185.85 has been WHQL certified so it is only a matter of time before they hit Windows Update. -
Thanks for the fast respond. What about the missing drivers?
Coprocessor and Unknow Device
Also my wireless doesn't work if I hide my SSID from broadcasting. It works fine when it does broadcast. Anyone know why it would do this? It works fine with all my other laptops. -
I don't have the missing co-processor (I installed the motherboard drivers from Dell, try that if you haven't) but the unknown device will be the infra-red. It's not important unless you have a remote but if you want to get rid of it, just install the IR driver from Dell.
Also yep, same video problems for me. Went back to the Win Update ones. -

P8600 CPU
my 3dmark06 results with windows 7. This is the windows update graphic drivers.
2176 - regular mode
2713 - hybrid sli mode
So why is it so low? -
The most recent video driver update screwed my system! It won't boot up at all now... looks like Vista tries to load then blue screens and reboots. I tried using last know good config and safe mode.. same problem.
Using the Vista repair console it has managed to get it to boot again but now it stops dead in its tracks once booted... the logonui.exe file (the windows login screen) that the repair process copied over is a 16bit program and cannot load in the 64bit environment!!! Stupid Windows...
Can someone please email me or host a copy of there 64bit logonui.exe file so I can attempt to fix it via the command prompt. It is located in the 'c:/windows/system32' folder... and it is tiny.
FOUND THE FILE ON THE DELL RECOVERY PARTITION. -
Whenever my function keys get stuck, I just shut down the laptop and start it up again (soft reboot is not enough). This fixes it, but it is by no means a permanent fix, and the keys are likely to get stuck again at some point in the future. It seems to happen at least once per day.
Are you saying that you had fixed this problem permanently? -
i recently purchased this laptop with the base model specs in new zealand. I would recommend to anyone I have had no issues at all including BSOD or overheating.
The graphics performance is also very strong on the 9400.
Dont be spooked by the lemons and buy this laptop. -
3DMark06 score on P9500 CPU, 3GB RAM and GeForce 9400M: 2226
Running latest W7 with latest nVidia drivers. -

Got everything back up... had to do some work in the command prompt and then some more tweaking to get my trackpad and keyboard working again.
I have no idea why it crapped out so bad... I want to try the update again but I am a little paranoid. Maybe tomorrow -
what is the specs of 128gb samsung ssd used in studio 13, it seems to be a little bit slower than 256gb samsung.
-
I have seen four of these now at various Best Buys and all of them have terrible fit and finish. Many areas not lining up right, buttons and keys fitting poorly, and really an impression of cheap plasticky look and feel throughout. Really not an impressive effort by Dell.
