Hey guys I just thought I'd share this with you - just came across it on eBay and I reckon they look pretty good. They're by SGP Corp and I've got a few of their screen shields and full body skins for my iPhone 3G and they're of top quality! I especially love this carbon fibre skin for the 1340.
Topside cover: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/DELL-XPS-13-1340-Laptop-Cover-Skin-CARBON-Pattern_W0QQitemZ370203716619QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item5631dc6c0b&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14.l1262&_trkparms=|301%3A1|293%3A1|294%3A30
Palm rest cover:![]()
Free shipping too! I'm going to order these two pretty soon. Wanna keep my newcoming Studio XPS 13 in top condition, and the carbon fibre just make it look so nice (Won't be covering the brushed aluminium part though).
-
Now that will make it look better, I have no doubt.
-
I just ordered them earlier. Hopefully receive them soon
-
That carbon lid cover looks nice. You should post some pictures of it after you've put it on -
Hello,
I've just installed a clean Win7, and there is only one missing driver in the device manager. It's Coprocessor under Other Devices. 'Update driver' feature does not work. How can I install this driver? Does it effect the performance if the processor?
Thank you
I have a Studio XPS 1340 -
I think it was chipset driver. I installed it from Dell web site. It seems good now.
-
If you're installing Win 7, it would be best to get the video and chipset driver straight from nvidia.com. They have drivers for Windows 7.

Hello all. I have had my 1340 for about a week now and mostly love it, did a fresh install of Vista, have had no crashes or system problems at all.
However, when I am in a fullscreen game (TES4 Oblivion), I am unable to control the volume at all with the touch buttons. This is certainly not a dealbreaker for anything, but it is mildly annoying. I installed Dell QuickSet to get the onscreen volume notification during normal use, but pressing the volume buttons during a game has no effect at all. They still glow when touched, though. Is this normal or do I have to fix something?
edit/update: I have tested this in other games (Portal, HL2) and the volume buttons do appear to work in those, albeit without any onscreen meter display. Perhaps the problem is something more specific?
Other issues:
-The optical drive starts spinning very loudly right when a disc is inserted. Typically it calms after a second or two, but it practically gets the desk vibrating for a moment. If this is typical, I guess I'll deal with it.
-There is a fair bit of flex around the Enter key. I wasn't sure if this was normal based on other reports, but it is pretty noticeable. The left half of the keyboard is very solid. -
Hi everyone!
I was thinking about creating a new topic here, but I think its best start without flooding hehe
I bought a Studio XPS m1340 with base config here in Brazil, and due to low budget I was unable to upgrade to Geforce 9500 and to WLED display.
The latest is making me worried. Everywhere I look it says:
Display : 13.3in WXGA (1280x800) White-LED Display with TrueLife (thinner & brighter)
So the questions I have (while I wait my notebook to be delivered) are:
1) My notebook will be thicker than those with WLED? Is there 2 types of cover (one for WLEDS and other for regular LCD´s)?
2) Will I be able to play some games with this regular 9400 GeForce?
Thanks in advance! -
-
2. Yes, though the 9500 combination is a bit more powerful. The 9400 on its own isn't too bad. -
Idk about the cover being thinner, it probably is a little since the webcam drops from 2.0 to 1.3 megapixels but I doubt it's a dramatic difference. The 9400m is pretty capable when it comes to games (within reason, of course). What kind of games do you have in mind? Mine does pretty well in some older games like Halo 2 and Oblivion running only on the integrated card.
-
Mine is the 730i, but I don't have the hybrid SLI which I think might have a different chipset. -

My girlfriend just bought a 1340 and there's a problem that annoys her: the notebook is not standing even. So actually it's standing on three out of the four rubber feet. That one on the front left side has no contact to the table. (no the table is not the problem - I just checked it on a glass plate). So when you start writing and putting weight on the front of the 1340 it slightly moves and the rubber foot on the rear right side has no contact to the table. That sounds like a minor problem but it's a brand new notebook and wasn't cheap at all. In addition the jolting might affect the HDD when it happens regularly. So I called the hotline and they were very helpful and sent a brandnew system. I just receidved it and the first thing I checked was if it's standing even. Unfortunately it's identical to the first and therefore not standing even. So is this a regular issue? Have any of the other owners experienced the same?
greets,
saint -
@the.s.a.i.n.t: I know a few ppl who are having that issue so u might wanna call up dell tech and have someone fix it - This same thing happened to my m1530 and I got it fixed right away. Hoping it's not going to happen with my new 1340 when I get it.
-
so it's just bad luck that the new notebook they sent me has the identical problem? That means ordering another replacement might help? Then I will give it a try - thanks for the answer
-
I think the loud spinning is normal - mine is behaving the same way. It is a Drive from TSST Corp. -
Guys, I did it! I got the computer via best buy for my brother. I'm going to get the computer next week and only for 4 days... Do you guys recommend me to do something special with it? Any important updates/changes/installs?
Thanks in advance. -
You should re install vista to get rid of the bloatware.
Or install windows 7 -
-
btw why do a fresh install? what will change? I think theres some software like face recognition that disappears when you re-install since they arent supplied on dell disks... -
hi, for some reason it wont let me search on here, but i need to ask a question. i have a studio xps 1340, and am very very happy with it. the only thing i would change, is i would love to add bluray to it. does anyone know if the BC-5600S will fit in it? thank you

Hi,
I just got my new studio xps 13:
P9600(2.66GHz/1066Mhz FSB/6M L2 Cache
4GB, DDR 3, 1067 MHz 2 Dimm for XPS 1340

500GB 7200RPM Free Fall Sensor Seagate Hard Drive
8x DVD+/-RW Slot Load Drive for XPS1340
56 WHr 6-cell Lithium Ion P Primary Battery
I am now looking for a good way to keep it cool...
I heard about thermal grease but i'm not quite sure I want to open it to do it...
I also heard about laptop coolers such as Enermax Aeolus CP001 Cooler
Ty for giving me your trick to keep it cool ^_^
ps: I'm french that's why my english might be a little weird -
I should have it ready in a day or 2.
Yes the facial recognition has to be gotten from dell. I'll have instructions for that in my guide also. -
I'm thinking about purchasing a Studio XPS 13, but I do have some questions for current owners regarding this notebook.
1. Has the heat coming out of the exhaust vent damaged anyone's LCD screen? I know the LCD does not block the vent, but redirects the flow (depending on the angle)... right onto the screen.
2. How long have you own the notebook, what type of programs do you usually use, and how many hours do you use it daily?
3. Would you recommend it? -
Well i got my XPS13 since 25/03/2009, and so far it hasnt let me down in anny way except for the ''High RPM alike sound'' comming from the cd player when a certain disc is inserted. It doesnt happen to every disc just some.
The heat scores on a scale from 1 to 10 around euhm 7 or 7,5,
which is slightly to the hot side. It didnt damage my WLED and i think it wont damage it in the future either.
I havnt had anny blue screen and i havnt reinstalled my xps yet mine works fine the way it got delivered.
I play games like CoD4, NFS carbon, H.A.W.X and Guildwars.
They all work fine with a very good FPS rate on medium/high settings.
I dunno if i would recommend this laptop to anyone because altough mine hasnt had anny problems or whatshowever. I do seem to see a huge amount of people that do have issues and problems with the quality of the hardware and both software. So i dunno im not sure if i would recommend it >.>
guess i just got lucky -
I have just installed Windows 7 RC1 64 bit as a dual boot to Vista 32 bit - my original operating system.
I think this has been asked before, but without the search capability I can't find it, so ...
The Gaming Graphics Windows performance index has dropped from 5.3 on Vista to 4.8 on Windows 7. I think there was a recommendation here to update the graphics drivers but I'm not sure to which version - was it the latest from nVidia, 185.85?
I'm currently running the latest from Dell which is 179.82.
Thanks for your help
Geoff -
so has ANYONE installed bluray in their sxps 13?
-
Sorry to keep banging on about this, but does the DPC latency issue still exist?
I saw a post on the official dell forum yesterday claiming it is still around. Has anyone got it working on the SXPS 13? I spoke to a sales rep over the phone yesterday and he claimed the issue was fixed in the latest bios. I don't believe him. -
I just ran the checker on my SXPS 13. Fresh install of Vista, newest drivers for everything, newest BIOS. About every 4th time it had a bar in the red. So the problem has not been fixed. Also tried disabling the WiFi card and bluetooth, didn't change anything.
-
Same really -
I just wanted to thank everyone for posting all this info (cheering) can't wait to get my hands on mine. Already got delayed once...boooo. I just hope they fix the sound issues..... So again thank you for your posts!!!!
-
hopefully if everyone keeps griping over the latency issue Dell will find a way to fix it soon. I'm still excited for the arrival of my 1340 and hope this is the only problem with it, and a short-lived one at that. I use my 9262 for recording audio and will continue to do so.
-
My 1340 lcd screen has a vertical lines on it. Sometime it appears, but sometime it doesn't. I Today I just contact Dell customer, and they decided to replace it for me. They give me an On-site tech - a guy will contact me by tomorrow to set an appointment for visiting my place and replace the screen - with no cost for me.
Anyone has this service before? What will they do when they come? Do they just replace the screen or check the issue before start the replacement?
Thanks in advanced ^___^ -
I just placed an order for my 1340... worried about getting a lemon now, no lemons no lemons no lemons... *fingers crossed* -
To 3udepot:
I bought mine from BestBuy, and do u know how many times I exchange my lappy? 5 times. Hahaha -
Well that makes me feel so much better... Note to self: Refund
-
in case anyone was wondering, that blu ray drive is too thick.
-
-
1st: Dust under screen
2nd: Dust under screen
3rd: Space bar failed right out of the box
4th: Wifi didn't work
5th: I have used it since last Apr, and now, sometime it has a solid color line on the screen.
I totally give up with my Dell XPS 1340. I will give it to my younger brother and buy another one. Still have any idea about what next ... haizzzzz -

'You are running a 32 bit version of Nvidia uninstaller on a 64 bit system (Binary type I386). Wrong version of uninstaller. Ininstaller exits now.
Setup detected that the operating system in use is not Windows Vista [64-bit]/Windows 7 [64-bit]. This setup program and its associated drivers are designed to run only on Windows Vista [64-bit]/Windows 7 [64-bit]. The installation will be terminated.'
Well, I am definitely using the Windows 7 64 bit graphics driver from Nvidia, and I am definitely running Windows 7 64 bit.
I have tried earlier versions of the driver from Nvidia and get the same problem.
Does anyone else have this problem running 64 bit Windows 7 on an XPS 1340?
My next step will be to try re-installing Windows 7 and trying to install 186.03 without previously running any other graphics driver installation.
Another question - are there enough people running Windows 7 on the 1340 to demand a separate thread? I do refer to the thread re Windows 7 on the 1640. However it uses a different chipset and different graphics card and drivers.
What do you think?
Geoff -
Wow, i didn't notice that there is a new firmware update for TSST drives that came out on 5/31
-
I notice there is new A08 bios out.
I'm still on A06 as there were reports that as of A07 the fan runs too high. Did A07 really change the temperature thresholds for the fan?
