Ordered mine on 27th of November from Germany, on the 7th of December it went into production and it was sent out on the next day!!! I wonder how they built and do the quality control in only one day! Did anyone have a similar experience? Should I worry about this?

No you can't think like that. Your config may have been ready before and quality controlled. They are over the initial mad rush now so will have built up stock. Its a production line not individually hand built to your specifications.

My replacement was suppose to come in 7 days, thats what they told me because I had problems with the XPS 15 I bought earlier. Well the replacement was ordered on Nov 30, and until now all it says is NO INFORMATION AVAILAIBLE, not even a estimate delivery date, so I called customer service and they said the estimate delivery date is JAN 1....but it still does not show up on my order number.....

I guess I am going to call back.

My replacement order was placed on the same day as yours. I was also promised a 12/06 DD (with Next Business Day shipping). I have received the notebook today (12/9). The order shipping and delivery dates were shown as "NO INFORMATION AVAILAIBLE" until yesterday. Suddenly they changed to shipped, and later the FedEx tracking number was added.

Ordered mine on 4th dec(from Punjab,India). XPS 15 L501X. on 6th it went into production and today it's still showing "work in progress" with EDD: 31Dec10. what re the chances of getting it before that; say next week?(coz the wait is getting really annoying)
How many days does it take for completing the manufacturing process?

Nobody will or can answer this. Some people got theirs within a week, others waited a month or so. You will just have to keep your fingers crossed and hope you are one of the lucky ones.

To everyone who upgraded to the 1920x1080 screen shortly before Dell took the option off of their website. I would like to share my experience so far with you all so you too can check if you received the correct product.

I ordered my XPS 15 with the upgraded full HD screen and received everything I ordered except for that. They shipped me the 720p screen instead. I was not notified of the switch nor was I given back any of my money! This whole thing could have been avoided if they just called me up and told me they were out of that screen and asked if I would like to cancel the order. Within the next few days, I had called numerous support representatives to which one even assured me I had the correct screen and then spent the next hour trying to get it to the full resolution and finally gave up and said something else must be wrong! Each customer support person I talked to told me that the 1080p screen was shipped with my laptop. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I easily deduced that I did not in fact have the full hd screen by comparing the HardwareID of the LCD panel to info available online for that part number.

Basically, at this point, Dell is completely out of the 1080p screens now. They've tried to get me to take a refund of the difference between the screens; they've offered to give a full refund for the laptop, they've offered to exchange the laptop which doesn't make any sense since when I asked them how they were going to get me a 1080p screen they said "Oh, you'd be receiving the same screen with your replacement." Uh...ok? And they've offered to replace the LCD with a refurbished 1080p screen to which XPS support said not to do. Brand new laptop, used parts? I think not.

Bottom line is this, I want this laptop...I want the 1080p screen, I told them I can wait for them to get them in and they can install a new one on my laptop. They told me that wasn't an option since there is no ETA on the 1080p screens. So my 21 day return time is winding down and I have no options here. Bad situation all around. I hope they come up with something better than this. I'm a first time Dell buyer and if this is how they operate...not so sure I will be buying again.

Anyways, everyone, please please please check your lcd to make sure you can indeed get that 1920x1080p resolution you paid extra for and if you're still unsure check the Hardware ID of the panel to verify the native mode for the panel.

ok, well what a nightmare is that.

yesterday was jan 9th and i ordered a 15inch 1080p screen! but that was an option for on jan 9.

and to boot, i added the 256gb SSD HDD, and it said that alone would add 8 days so..

what happened with you in the end?

I ordered a XPS14 on january 30. I was wondering what is an approximate date based on your guys experience I can believe to receive it. I'm living in Canada. Strangely, on dell website it says march 30...
    Thanks

I just ordered mine on 2/2/2011.

    1 224-9506 XPS 15
    1 317-5418 Intel Core i7-740QM 1.73GHz / up to SC 2.93GHz / 6M
    1 317-5423 6GB,DDR3,2 DIMM
    1 331-0481 Backlit Keyboard (Internal) - English
    1 320-1669 NVIDIA GeForce GT 435M 2GB graphics
    1 342-1684 750GB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive
    1 318-0152 Metalloid Aluminum (WLAN) L501X
    1 320-1673 15.6FHD TLF B+RGLED LCD L501X

I hate the wait, but I guess patience is a virtue... that I don't have! I went through most of the pages from 50+ and it seems that some people get theirs extremely fast (7-10 days) and others who end up canceling their order because of delays.

For those of you who are wondering about the XPS 14, I called Dell and they told me they have a shortage on some components and they can't give me an estimate whether my laptop will be delivered or not...
