What??Are they offering new gpu??Its not available on indian site,or is it something u ask for and get it upgraded?
-
-
can you talk a little bit about OSX Leopard? I am starting to think you never had a macbook. Provide some substantial evidence that you somehow broke your system and then migrated to Dell. Actually, go ahead and explain how your macbook managed to splatter like that?
-
yup it's here, i just ordered it
-
I'm right behind you.
-
IT IS HERE!

Brendanmurphy Your Worst Nightmare
You guys are so lucky. Im stuck with the 3670
When it becomes available on the canadian site ill call dell and pull the " Ive been a customer for a long time and plan to be in the future but i would hate to be screwed for being an early adopter" Or i just stop payment on the DPA and return the system and order again
-
Do ya ppl think,if I ask the sales rep for the 4670 in India, will they get it?
Am equally confused with wifi 5100 and 5300?
What say ppl? -
Since i sent my computer in to get fixed since it didn't start, would i be able to upgrade to the new gpu if my computer doesn't work and i have to request a new computer??
-
Perfect. 4 days after my 21 day return policy ran out.
Screw you Dell. -
I did have a MacBook Pro, and did break it. Even though I don't feel compelled to offer evidence, here it is:
Anyway, OSX is great if you like to live in Apple's walled garden of operating system / computer hardware / software. There isn't much customization available for OSX or Apple hardware in general. I just missed Windows, mostly. That and not being able to play any of the good games
They gave me free next-day shipping on my order for having to order twice. Dell is really making me rethink why I ever went with anyone else in the first place. -
1GB 4670... $100 bucks more... Does anyone wanna buy an used 1640?
-
I would rather wait till at least tomorrow when dell decides to throw in windows 7 upgrade for free.
-
It shows the upgrade offer for windows 7 now,but it says only business laptops and workstations!!
Still not showing the latest gpu on indian site -
blame yourself, not dell. We all knew it was coming and you chose not to return it.
-
Be careful Joker, that was bad advice on our parts.
-
how can i install the idt audio driver and program on win 7 rc?
i have sound but i can't install the program -
ok people i have a question, lets say my computer stops working because of a part in the computer dies, and it is covered by the warranty. the computer is also new, would i be able to get the 1 gb Gpu instead of the 512 mb gpu when i request a new laptop to be sent??
-
Yep,That is what I intended to ask before, like pay extra for gpu and upgrade it,Is it possible? If it is then the already owners of this lap wont have any such problem.
-
no windows 7 upgrade info yet here in the USA
-
OK! Time for a happy update.
Got in touch with Dell support, here's what happened.
I had already updated drivers and messed around with power options.
So then they did an image restore. Didn't work.
Replaced my wireless card. Didn't work.
Complete reinstall of Vista 64.... twice. Didn't work.
Replaced my HDD. Didn't work.
Eurgh... now they say they're going to replace my whole system but it sounds like it's just an awful, awful wireless card.
It's strange because after typing it in to google, it seems there are 1000s of people with similar problems. Yet you guys don't seem to have encountered it and Dell said they had no idea what it was. Am I just going insane?
Has anybody had this problem and actually had a happy resolution? Please let me know there is still happiness left in the world.... -
I have seen it just now,on the home page wid those flash news,I think the second flash is about "upgrade to windows 7"
-
most people have the 5300 wireless card i believe, call dell and see if you can upgrade the the 5300 wireless card?
-
First of all, for you guys trying to scam a 4670 by breaking your systems hoping they'll give you an upgrade, don't bother. They will only replace it with another 3670 since that was your original package and they won't let you upgrade. Furthermore, the only time they ever offer upgrades is if the system and/or part is discontinued and you have had multiple system failures documented by a Dell technician. Best thing for you guys to do is sell your SXPS 16 for a small loss and purchase the new one. Anyway, I bought mine through Dell EPP just now and here's the breakdown:
-
Haha yah I guess we're vindicated aren't we? So many rants against us about "oh it's not gonna come anytime soon..it could be forever!" and "it doesn't overheat, my SXPS 16 runs as cold as the arctic". Well the new threads complaining about heat sure backs up what I said all along and what do you know, the 4670 1GB is here!
Now that people are finally hungry for benchmarks, I will happily provide them using the HP DV7 for now since it has a 4650 GPU (underclocked 4670) so they can take those marks and add maybe 5% to get the 4670 results.
What configuration did you choose? I posted mine above, I was really surprised by what an awesome deall Dell EPP offered, the 3 yrs complete care warranty blew me away. I can't wait until this baby arrives
-
I have to axe... what are you guys doing with the 4670 that you can't do with the 3670? I mean, 512MB video is a really good thing, no?
I don't play games at all so is this the main reason for upgrade? -
If you're not a gamer, the 4670 upgrade is pretty meaningless and the 3670 is more than enough. -
http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-ATI-Mobility-Radeon-HD-4670.13881.0.html
the 3d06 score is very good=7,300 (on default setting 1280x1028?). -
If you look at the details on their benchmark, the 1280x1024 one was 6995- but that was with a quad core processor. Still, yes- the thing benchmarks impressively. And it looks like it does even better in games- 2X or better performance over the old chip in some cases according to this ATI graph from the Notebookcheck benchmark page:
-
Just want to point out the AMD benchmark is based on an unplayable setting of 1600x1200, 4xAA, 8xAF. In reality, you probably won't see a 200% increase in framerate. In any case, I am still excited about the new GPU.
-
the gpu 4670 is finally out that is good news!
however its still not available on the dell Puerto Rico website
but im still excited its only a matter of time till it is!!! and i can have this baby back in my arms.
so happy! -
Is there a substantial improvement? Even according to benchmarks and posted reviews on this thread, still doesn't seem THAT impressive.
-
I think if I were going with the 1640, I would still stick with the 3670 vs. 4670, possibly based on my usage/needs. It's still pretty sweet!

Dell EPP is still a better deal. When I tried to configure the same system + warranty I purchased earlier today through EPP, the cost was $200 higher for the above link. -
Hey Guys im new to this forum and I just ordered my SXPS 1640.
I didnt buy the Bluray because I thought I dont need it and I dont buy movies, and I have external HDD for storage.
But I got the 1080p screen because a friend of mine said it is amazing and there is a big difference in quality and resolution... I read on a site that that 1080p screen is for HD quality files like Bluray etc.
i do download HD files sometimes but in the overall usage of browsing internet, playing games, ...is there a huge difference between 720p and 1080p?
Thanks. -
I know dell epp is a better deal but this is good for the people who can't buy from dell epp
-
That's certainly true..did you order yours yet? -
I'll call my Dell Rep. in about 7 hours and see if I can get a better deal. I saw your cost for your xps earlier but it look like you deleted it. if you don't want to post it, can message it to me if it's ok. I also want to get a free upgrade to windows 7 so i'm waiting
Thanks -
windows 7 is availible
my sxps is coming now or next week when 4670 will probably be avilible with 128gb ssd.
unlucky for people ordering yesterday, or just cancel and reorder -
wow, this is really sweet news
owais: where's available? i still see only vista..
elitehomegifts: where did u find this deal? it's pretty sweet, though i hope i can participate in dell epp too, that would save a few hundred bucks.
Joker: i like ur config, it would be perfect for me too (except maybe P8600 would be enough, but on EPP maybe 8700 is the minimum and so with the blu-ray drive, and i think i would go for the 9-cell battery), i really hope i can participate in EPP to get a similar config too. if i won't be able, i would have to call of something, like fullhd rgbled, my budget is kind of limited, i can't go much above $1600 total.. -
You have 2x the screen real estate .. so, yes it does make a huge difference if you are multi-tasking.
For gaming (3d), the lower resolution is actually better, because you can run games at the native resolution of the LCD panel. For games that you can run natively at 1080p (or higher than 720p), then the 1080p panel is better. Although, ive only briefly played SimCity4 on my unit. -
Guys, since graphics performance is the subject of the moment, i would like to ask a question... Do any of you installed San Andreas on your 1640? I just did in mine thinking that I would play everything on max, but it just doesn't! 1060x1050 (or something like that) AA = 3, Details = VERY HiGH (or even just HIGH), and the game is lagging!
This is a 2005 game, it should run on max, right? Maybe there's something wrong with my configurations (DirectX or something like that?)? What do you guys think? Am I expecting too much? -
I played San Andreas on full everything on widescreen with flawless play. It's weird how the performance is so varying on these systems.
-
Probably a symptom of it being a crappy port. -
Man, I downloaded several high resolution videos, even the same video in both resolutions (720, 1080) and I can tell you that there really is a BIG difference. Like ImaKE said, don't expect too much while gaming, because with the 3670 you will not be able to play games on 1080p (at least the more recent ones...). But with the new GPU, maybe you'll be able to enjoy all of the greatness of this screen even with games.
-
since you said your game is lagging, could it possibly be because of your cpu? its the 2.26 one correct? that could be slowing it down/lagging the game.
-
You mean a hardware problem? Any way of being sure?
-
http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/t...ng/en/emea/windows-7-consumer?c=uk&l=en&s=gen
https://win7.dell.com/
for all laptops bought on or after 26/6 (today)
32bit to 32bit and 64bit to 64bit -
What I mean is the software is not a good console to PC port. It's the game's poor programming rather than the laptop. -
Oh, now I got it! Sorry...
But I don't think that's it... N20D5OH said he could play it fluently with everything on high.
Hellriser1018 said, the processor... Which one did you have, N20D5OH? I doubt that it was much faster than mine (2.53GHz?). But the GPU is the same! Does some 0.3GHz make that much difference?
Did you guys ran any benchmarks? Maybe that could give some answers...
