the same happened to me, the original order had the wled screen even though i had requested and paid for the 1080p one. i mentioned this to the rep, and the told me not to worry, the same thing he told you.

when it arrived, it indeed had the correct screen. i wouldnt worry too much about it ^_^

Would you mind posting the calibrate files? The RGBLED screen seems way off. Thanks a bunch!

It creates a color profile. It doesn't change the settings.
Every screen would be slightly different. If you used the profile created for my screen you might be even more off than now.

You can ether increase the DPI or lower the Resolution.

sweet thanks, did the DPI since i didn't want to lower the resolution, i can actually see the print better.

how do i make the side bar and top bar bigger? without messing with the resolution?

I don't think there is that ability to do that built in to windows however they may be some 3rd party applications that do it. So the only way to do it out of the box is the resolution.

i got my laptop yay. but there a problem. When i reboot the computer my wireless internet, 5300 card says its identifying the internet. it really didn't work, so i had to re add the ssid and stuff in order to connect to the internet. any fix for this?

for the Drivers how should i update them? through the update manger or going on the dell site? Is there an easier way to get the computer updated completely??

Yes update them all. All I can say is you're going to love Win 7. It's so easy to install the OS and pretty much everything works immediately.

Is windows 7 faster?-Difficult to answer,if we are talking about faster boot,it seems better as there is no sidebar,so it saves some time, then it also depends on the startup`s in system tray,It is user customizable. If we are talking about navigating around "My Computer",good news here,it seems faster than vista.Copying data is very fast.So overall,it appears faster than vista. It is indeed much, much better than vista.I am of the opinion that, this OS is breakthrough! It might end up being the most satisfactory OS by MS till date.

    I give win 7 9 on a scale of 10
    Compared to beta vista,I give win 7 11 on a scale of 10!! :D

I am really considering ordering this laptop as I love the size / style. Would one of these with the best video card be capable of running most games in pretty high settings?

Im still undecided on Win7. Ive been using Vista for a couple of years and have had no issues with it, except for some compatibility issues with some older apps.

They also seem to have removed the Quick Launch icons; which is a huge downgrade. I have a 4x6 matrix of apps that i can access with one click.

I got that too. I called and the customer service rep said the order status was just showing the incorrect item, that the 1080p screen was still in the order. However, I would still call. If you could post what they tell you, all of us seeing the same thing can verify.

I hope the laptop ships better than the sleeve I received yesterday. The box was destroyed, one corner completely slit. Looks like someone took a look at the packing slip and crammed it back in.

i must say this laptop is very nice it does get very hot when its on a table completely flat, but when inclined a tad to let hair come through its just warm. gaming doesn't seem to heat this computer either, so i guess all the people tha said this computer gets hot a fix is to prop it up for more airflow.

My order says the same thing. I believe it's for the leathepiece that goes on the cover so I wouldn't worry much if I were you. Scroll up on the invoice and you should see it list the rgb led display.

For me,the Estimated delivery date is 7th Jul,but just gotta sms from courier service that I would be getting a parcel from dell on 3rd Jul,seems dell is least bothered to update the order status on the web.
One more thing,I placed the order with 3yrs Complete cover, but in order details it says Yr2 to 3,Is it some kinda trick?Or dell just mean to say till the end of 3rd yr?

I was searching for few more reviews and minute details about sxps1640 and found this:
"Dell Studio XPS 16 notebook features standard Wi-Fi Catcher for connecting to a Wi-Fi hotspot and it is done without powering up your notebook."

    On the following website: http://www.cyberindian.net/2009/02/04/dell-studio-xps-16-notebook/

    Is this true?

I had the same issue with my order and my rep told me that the 7332 sku is a trigger sku for the 7329 sku and that, in her system, both show as being the RGBLED screen. See below for the response from my rep:

I got confirmation that 320-7332 is the trigger logic sku for 320-7329. They are the same panel.

    320-7329 16 1080p FHD RGBLED LCD,2.0 MP
Edge-to-Edge FullHD Widescreen 16.0 inch RGBLED LCD (1920x1080) W/2.0 MP

    320-7332 16.0 Full HD RGBLED Blk-Lthr 1
Edge-to-Edge FullHD Widescreen 16"RGBLED LCD (1920x1080) in Black w/2.0 MP Webcam

I just e-mailed my Dell rep with the following:

    Hi Pranita,

I had a question about my order. When I check the Order Status it lists:

    1 320-7329 16.0 inch Wide Screen 16:9 1080p FullHD RGBLED LCD W/2.0 MP, XPS 1640

1 320-7618 Premium HD WLED Display Obsidian Black, Leather 2.0 MP Webcam

I ordered my system through Dell EPP with the 16.0 inch Wide Screen 16:9 1080p FULL HD RGBLED LCD not the HD WLED display (320-7618). I want to make sure the order is correct and it is indeed the 1080p display that is on order.

I'll post an update with what she says though I'm pretty sure it's the 1080p display on order and they just list part 320-7618 as the leather piece that fits on the cover.

Is the upgraded video card really worth it? I don't game at all, just HD movies, photoshop, etc.

I would like to purchase form the outlet if this GPU is useless to me. Also, I don't think they improved the cooling system at all, right?

ok there is noise but thats the fan going when its at full blast, the heat if its propped or has the 9 call battery is just warm on top, and when i say warm its not like super warm just a normal warm. if the computer sits on a desk not propped it does get hot but the hot is on the bottom since there is not a lot of air coming in. The screen is wonderful but i can't really compare to anything since i had a crappy moniter in the first place before this. Gaming doesn't get this computer to warm which surprised me.

Great news,Am going to recieve one tomorrow.Am planning to keep it on for almost entire day, working on it,simulating routers and playing around wid vmware.I hope it doesnt bother if I do so.
Currently,I own Hp lap and it doesnt have heat issues keeping it on for 24/7.
Of course am going to elevate it on a laptop stand or get myself a cooler.
yes it is surprising that gaming doesnt produce heat. How many hours did you game on it?

Save some money and get a system from outlet. The 4670 is really only useful for gamers, artists/CAD designers and maybe people that do a lot of heavy 3D based design. For the average user, an integrated Intel chip is more than enough so in your case the 3670 should last you a lifetime if all you are gonna use it for is some light photoshop and movie viewing.

Please let us know the exact settings so we can try it also. Thanks!

The expected ship date is July 10th so if it ships Monday, that would put it about 4 days ahead of schedule which is about right for Dell.

I disagree about the Intel video being decent for ANYTHING. Modern OSes need hardware for video playback and the desktop. The 3670 is about as good in terms of performance as my Geforce 9650GT, so I think is *just* good enough for those uses, but even for the basics I wouldn't mind having more power available.

Plus with Direct X 11 and OpenCL, we'll probably see more and more other programs run pieces in the GPU too.

The Intel GMA 4500MHD does everything a casual user would require. It does 1080p playback and is DX10 compliant. Remember, all this guy does is watch movies and do some photoshop. Windows 7 will work just fine with an integrated GMA 4500 and it will run photoshop and movies perfectly. The 3670 is overkill for either of those activities let alone a 4670.

They CLAIM those things, but Intel's claimed all sort of things for their hardware over the years, and there's a difference even between Nvidia's 16 and 32 core GPUs for general use, both of which stomp all over anything Intel's made.

The chip has been tested, it works fine. Nobody said it performs on par with nVidia or ATi but rather it works as advertised for the casual user that does nothing more than e-mailing, watching videos and a bit of photoshop.

The question is should it be ati 3670 or 4670,So the answer should be yes 3670 does great job for him, still,if he can invest bit MORE then why not go for the higher gpu,Lets forget about intel cards here.

I am an architecture student looking to purchase this laptop. I am the type of person willing to wait to get something when it is updated. I am just curious as to if this would be a good time to purchase since I need this laptop for school in the fall but I hate purchasing something and 2 months later a hardware update will be out. So what are some foreseeable upgrades that could be done to this laptop. I saw they just updated the GPU and the only thing I can think of would be the rumored Intel mobile i7's this Fall supposedly. So should I wait or quit thinking about it and get this laptop?

Well,Nowadays one should purchase these items according to the needs and usage, its very hard to say,like-if I wait for another 6mon(say) I might end up quad core in sxps 1640!!But is quad core necessary for you?trust me,I waited for long just for the hyped 1gig of gpu and ended up purchasing without it,as its still not available in India (Just imagine, the days I wasted for this),So you think the current specs is right for your usage and you feel you need one laptop today, then get one now.Later as you need high end laps, sell this and go for the higher one.

Though,it is equally true,"The longer you wait, better you get."
So purchase once you urge to get one!!
