No it doesn't. You need to get it from the download store or call Dell and have them send you the disk.

Could anyone upload a picture of the 15.6" HD WLED screen? And post some experiences? I want to order a SXPS 16, but I don't want to spend 300+ euro on the upgrade to RGBLED.
-
it just came out in the US/Canada so I'm not sure how many people will actually have it yet.
-
I shall tell you how it is next Tuesday or Wednesday when my laptop arrives
-
Ah, too bad. So initially the US could choose between two screens? One 1080p RGBLED and one 720p HD LED? And now the latter has been replaced by a 1080p HD LED screen?
-
yes previously there were only two options. the 720p WLED and the 1080p RGB. both were 16inch.
-
I would really like that 720p screen in combination with the ATI 4670...Playing games at 1920x1080 (native) resolution is a bit too much I'm afraid.
And I wonder why they replaced the 16" screen with a 15.6" version? -
i got my sxps 16 yesterday. everything seems t be working fine but i'm gonna format and do a fresh intsllation soon. just one thing
I dont have roxio and power dvd on cd, and the driver cd doesnt include it. Its currently the weekend so i cant ring dell, but the question is whether i should have recieved these on cd or not.....does anyone know whether i'm actually supposed to get it on cd?
the facial recognition isnt the biggest factor, i really wanted to keep roxio and power dvd (partly cause i paid for it in the included price of the notebook) -
My SXPS16 is not charing my iPhone through the esata/powershare port when the laptop is off or when closing the lid. I can see in advanced power options usb selective suspended setting is ON for both battery and plugged in. Powershare is enable in the BIOS as well. I am using windows 7 and DELL can not help with this because they do not support my OS yet. Any ideas besides waiting till 10/22?
-
I have ordered a sxps 16 as well with the 15.6" 1080p WLED but i`m also wondering how it actually looks like. I`ve seen the 16" 1080p RGBLED but is there a noticeable difference between those two?
How far is it recommended to format the laptop on receiving it? Do the bloatware really take a lot of RAM?
How has the performance been with WIN 7 RC?
From what i`ve read in the previous posts some of you have got driver issues with WIN 7. -
Go with the RGBLED for the win . You will not regret it
No driver issues at all with Windows 7 and you should always format a new computer when you get it from DELL -
Thx for the info.
I already ordered with the 15.6" WLED though since the RGBLED was too expensive. I wanted to know whether the difference was substantial.
I`ll just format the laptop with WIN 7 RC when I get it then until WIN 7 is released in october.
Thx again. -
My Iphone clearly states it will not charge from a computer that is off or in any suspended state.
-
is it possible to hook up surround sound to the laptop? or do you have to buy a new sound card for it? or is it not possible at all, regardless of what sound card you have?
-
you can connect through HDMI and get surround sound, your you can plug in through the headphones jacks and configure through the IDT sound control panel for surround sound. either way you dont have to buy a new sound card
-
alright, but, i have a logitech speaker system that has 5 speakers and a sub. the 5 speakers hook up to the sub and then there's three wires that go from the sub to my desktop. would i be able to use this on the 1640 that im getting on the 10th? and if i can't do it with the factory sound card, is there one that i can buy?
-
studio 16 has 2 speakers and a subwoofer, they are much much beter than a cheap $50 logictech sound system.
-
why have DELL change their SXPS screens ?????
first it was RGBLED 1080p 16" (still is)
and WLED 720p 16"
but now it is 16" RGBLED
15.6" WLED 720p
15.6" WLED 1080p ????
where in Gods name have the 16" 720p WLED disappeared ???
does someone have any pictures (or Youtube videos) on the 15.6" WLED screen ????? (720p or 1080p) -
There is a huge difference, you can compare screenshots of both screen options or just read the comparisons on Toms Hardware or AnandTech.
-
Your laptop is turned off completely which means all of it's functionality is also off, including distributing power to USB ports. It makes no sense to try and power your laptop when it is off. You may have better luck when your system is on standby. I do.
-
You would be better off not doing that. There is certain software that cannot be duplicated when you reinstall windows. At the minimum, create an image backup of your drive before you wipe all the data. It seems foolish to do otherwise since you don't know what you are getting rid of.
-
can you give me the link to this compare pictures...thanks
-
Thx for the info.
Do you not recommend formatting then?
Do we not get all the other pre-installed software on the cds provided with the laptop?
Thx. -
its a dumb idea to begin with to put a poor lcd screen on a great multimedia laptop. 720p shoulda never being a option on studio 16.
-
completely false. 1) the laptop has a function specifically designed to provide power to the one USB port on the right when it is powered off, and even not plugged in. the reason he is having trouble charging his iPod or iPhone or whatever it was is because apple products actually require USB drivers to be installed, and the phone needs an operating system to know to charge, therefore it will not work when the computer is off.

What are people doing for cooling? I'm going to repost this from the cooling thread. My system was ordered more or less when these were anounced back in March/April.
My cores have hit 95C and 96C and the TZ00 temp point has hit a whopping 105C (I have the 2.66GHZ processory and ATI Radeon HD 3670 256mb, 4GB RAM)
I'm currently working on underclocking but I'll probably also pick up a cooling pad now.
Anyone LISTENED to both the Cryo LX and the Zalman nc2000? I'll probably go for the quieter one because they seem relatively equal in reported performances. -
Does anyone have pictures of the 15.6" screen?
Thx -
With him ^^

Hi, I've just bought my studio XPS 1640. Some thing happend and marked my harddisk drive as bad, so i used a software to reinitialize it. So, i lost my recovery image. I used the CDs came with the laptop but i lost lot of software. How can i get the recovery image?
-
dont bother to the recovery. its useless anyway. (if something happens, just use your recovery CD)....done
-
I'm not sure who's answer is MORE false, TO'Qs or yours, but you're both wrong.
If an OS was required to charge the iPhone, when can you please tell me which OS is installed in my car's cigarette lighter plug, which I use to charge my iPhone in my car? I'm pretty sure Chrysler did not install a cigarette lighter driver in my cars computer...
And, FWIW, my right-side USB port charges my iPhone 3GS, even when my '16 is turned off. -
I'm having a heck of a time with the touchable hotkeys, I'm frequently bumping the wifi/bluetooth hotkey and knocking out my net connection. Does anyone know how to disable this key?
-
Hey everyone, just received my Dell Studio XPS 16 with the HD RGBLED display about a week ago. I love it, the screen is wonderful and displays very accurate colors. My only concern is when the screen is displaying all blacks or darker colors (say if you go into paint and bucket the whole screen black) there seems to be some backlight bleeding on the left side of the screen. This is really only visible if you look at the screen from the right side. Not only that but it looks like the bleading is a vertical line that starts about two inches away from the left most side of the screen. so overall the bleeding is not very uniform throughout the whole screen. When you look straight at the screen the bleeding is non existant, but still im a bit concerned that it may be a defect in my new work tool. Can anyone check their screen looking at it from the right, at a decent angle, with a black background? Thanks for any help. I will try to post some pics later tonight.

Brendanmurphy Your Worst Nightmare
Call dell now those temps are insane. Mine never pass 70c for cpu or 70c for gpu. TZ00 70c aswell. -
my laptop hath arrived. Sadly I'm at work and my laptop is home
-
I would be calling in sick j/k
Or at least going home for lunch
-
Did you confirm those temps using 2 software programs? Those are insanely high (definitely celcius, right?)
My XPS 16 with the 4760 processor and P8600, playing neverwinter nights 2 for 4-5 hours was hitting 60-70 C on the GPU and 62-63 C on the processor cores.
I had the rear end and front propped up a tad and it was on a wooden table, but no cooler and the ambient temp was around 70-74.
Those temps are just insane. -
Hahah my mom was the one that accepted the delivery, so she hasn't even touched it. I expect it to be fully enshrined in the box when I get home.
Going home for lunch is impossible...1+ hr commute via the train to get home, lol. -
IT HAS ARRIVED!
My replacement 1640 was delivered TODAY Fedex.
There was no tracking number on Dell's site, it still says in production!
I ordered it 7/28 and it was delivered only one week later.
JOKER- Keep your eyes open it's coming.
Will be posting my impressions later tonight. I am hoping to God I get a good screen this time. -
Cool. I'll be getting mine soon too. Dell sucks at getting replacement computer specs right, so hopefully you double checked your specs on the prder cause I've had two replacement orders with incorrect specs so far.
-
Lucky. I ordered mine July 17th, and Dell still says its in Production (Build Stage). I think that the 256 SSD I configured my system with before they took the option down, is holding this thing up. My original Estimated Delivery Date was August 6th, and then they changed it to August 13th. Making it almost a month long wait. -
I remember when going with the SSD made for a quicker turnaround, anyway the SSD is worth it.
-
Finally started using the laptop. Seems like a lot of unneeded stuff running in the background. Going to wipe and install Win7 64bit.
Edit: I'm a little nervous here. How can I tell I have the RGB LED screen? At the top of the packing slip that came on the box, it says 320-7329 RGBLED LCD...but then near the bottom it says 320-7618 Premium HD WLED display. -
if you dont notice your lcd screen being diferent from other computers', then you dont have rgb led screen.
-
for it to be RGBLED it would have to be a) 16" and b) 1920x1080.
-
ok yeah i noticed the major difference in screen quality and yes it is 1920x1080 resolution.
When installing Win7 do I need to keep the restore partition or is it safe to get rid of it? I'd like to gain some of my hard drive space back. lol. -
i think the 15.6 screen is the one from the studio15, i have not seen the 900p or 1080p versions of it, but the 720p of it was pretty bad, dim/bad veiwing angles.
Im most certain this was a cost saving move by dell, 16inch displays aren probably more expensive to produce since there is more 15.6 displays on the market. but i would like to see one on a xps16. -
Question...I'm on windows 7 right now, and it seems like the eject button isn't working. Do I need to install drivers for the hotkeys? In device manager it's not showing any unknown devices.
-
Did you have to install any drivers for your powershare port to charge your iPhone? I am using the RTM version as well so this proves that it can work so I have no clue what to do.
-
So my first impressions of this laptop...I love it! It does get a little warm but it's not as hot as many people say it gets. I've installed Win7 RC and it runs so fast. Trying out Office 2010 TP and it works great as well.
