Ummmm...your replacement needs to be ordered by XPS Tech Support. Customer Care will send you back. I must be lucky; I have never once dealt with XPS people such as this.
-
-
I dunno how they do it in Canada, down here XPS techs do not offer replacements. Maybe if I got escalated to 2nd or 3rd tier, or after 21 days are over, but not right now and not for me.
-
You don't have to keep the replacement. You can compare the two and send the one you don't like back, just talk to whoever ordered it for you.
-
Wait...did they say you had to send yours back first????
-
now now, I was first to suggest to get the replacement, therefore he owes rep to me, not you
-
hardly..hardly ever..whatever..to one situation..look at how many Intel situations are on here compared to AMD..yes and i read that ONE...I was just comparing to the fact that AMD doesn't seem to have this problem as much as Intel
Note to Self: remember to be more specific for Flamenko. -
Ok let me help you....
Go to Yahoo.com
type AMD and in brackets "high pitch"
Look at any of over 70 pages relating to exactly what your asking. Im not trying to prove anything here nor do I wish to get in a debate, but, in the first four pages I found 23 separate occurrences with AMD processors.
Is that enough to remove AMD from the hardly category???
PS... and when they relate to forums, take the time to read them to see how many separate occurrences are in each. -
This is strange, I'll check to see if my new notebook has this whine. None of the core twos I have or have worked on have this whine, but none of them are dells.
-
sorry..you just mentioend that ONE..then why does everybody keep talking about Intel then? but i guess i've never had any problems with any computer i've ordered..guess i'm lucky or just know what to get, eh? i've had Intel, AMD..and you guys talked about older computers..never had a problem. and why are you going with that XPS m1330 when a lot of what i've read in this forum is problems with the whine in the XPS..just hope you get lucky..I will pray that you will get a good laptop!
-
My apologies as well; I can be blunt at times. I have had several systems and only encountered this once; with my M1210. Because of this, I have learned a heck of alot about it though...
There is only one common thread in all occurrences with all companies in all the years. No one has been able to pinpoint exactly why this occurs. -
so how about the dv6500t..or any Inspiron models..
-
so does anybody have any problems with it with their Asus's or Sager's or Compal's..from what i've read..(so far) it seems to me that the cpu whining is from the "bigger name" manufacturers. please give me a link or something to read if anybody has heard anything with the sager, asus, or compal..or even ibuypower's..or alienware..for that matter.

Asus problems with whine
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=139526 -
Sorry but most of the links I find with that search are for Core2 Duo processors with the letters AMD in a link at the side of the page or in somebody's signature. And those that do seem to be about AMD processors aren't about notebook processors. I can't find anything about CPU whine in the Inspiron 1521 or 1721.
-
okay..i just turned down my hubby's audiobook for a minute just to see if my desktop had it..just b/c i was totally curious after all these postings. so anyhoo i turn the speakers all the way down and open up the lil door on our desk to where our Tower is. and yup i heard it..it wasn't loud at all but i did hear it. I guess i never noticed it before b/c we had it inside and not outside. but after all of these postings it got me interested..was it jsut notebooks or desktops too. you can hardly hear it though..but i got a pentium D 2.8 Ghz. processor. but its not that bad of a problem at all on this..i have watched some youtube video clips on this but i wonder how loud some of em can actually get..mmm..
-
for me it sounds like just the fan..its just not that bad.
-
i couldnt hear anythnig either on mine, until I saw the youtube video and put my ear right on the keyboard and I can heart it. but during normal use, I cant hear anything, even if im conciously listening for it. i guess all those loud music messed up my ears
-
Well they said I had to go through the customer care and order a replacement. I'm really new to this because it's my first time ordering a laptop so I'm not sure how or what procedures I have to go through. If ordering replacement means getting the second laptop first, compare and return the unwanted laptop (as described by Zetto) then I'm definitely going to take my chance.
But will dell really trust me with 2 M1330s in my house (1 being sent free for replacement purposes)?
SAHM1: the reason that you're seeing a lot of "intel" surfacing right now is because all big laptop manufactures uses Intel chips over AMD. Since there's more intel chips on the market right now, obviously AMD will get less complains.
You might think it's just a little mores code noise but when you work in a quiet environment, that high pitch becomes really irritating to your ears. It's like the Tee Buzzer noise that teens love to use on their cellphones (very irritating)
http://youtube.com/watch?v=yWICnMbTRAU -
yeah... people were talking about this CPU whine so the first thing I checked for was this whine by putting my ear close to my laptop to check for it.. I noticed it and then tried working again normally in my kitchen late at night... and then it started becoming louder (maybe cause the environment is quiet) and that's how it starts to annoy me lol
-
"SAHM1: the reason that you're seeing a lot of "intel" surfacing right now is because all big laptop manufactures uses Intel chips over AMD. Since there's more intel chips on the market right now, obviously AMD will get less complains."
true..it would be nice to know how many people who have AMD processor that have this problem as well. i've read a few but not many. well hey with my 14 month old running around the house who likes to be noisy most of the time even if i get that whiny noise maybe i won't hear it..LOL. (thats me trying to be funny) -
Unless u r a convicted felon, Dell will have no problem piling up stuff in your bedroom
J/k, they don't care even if you are a criminal
They did this for Cliegal, so why not you?
-
Imagine if no one told you - you would still be blissfully ignorant and happy with your 1330
-
I think i'm getting used to it. It's not really bothering me much anymore (and it hasn't even been a week)... when it would bother me though would be when i'm showing off my laptop. What if i'm like, "yo dudes checks out my new expensive xps" and then someone is like "yo bro, your shizzle is making crazy noise" .. then i'd be like "nah playa' your ears be buggin'"
..sorry, it's late
here's another youtube vid with annoying high pitched noises: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9g0yThhJcxY
At what frequency do you begin to here it? For me it was 14.1 -
XPS policy is to send you the replacement and then you send back yours. If you dont, for some reason, they will just bill you/minus yr credit card.
They even send u a boxkit for the system u r sending back. -
and i suppose that that means they pay for the shipment when I send it back too right? I don't want to pay to a penny for getting my laptop replaced (which isn't my fault).
-
yup, you get a pre-paid shipping label which you can attach to the original box and ship it back via DHL.
-
In Canada...Pre-Paid Purolator and they will pick it up from your house...
-
14.1.. that might've been the frequency that we've all been hearing from our processors
-
Alright in that case I'll try to file a replacement and cross my fingers
-
Nope I started hearing things at 12
-
hmm.. very interesting... I checked in with my mom this morning and she's in her 40s and she could hear the mores code whine without having to put her ear onto my laptop. This means that the whine is obvious and that the rep I spoke to yesterday was just trying to get me to shut up. Obviously he couldn't hear it over the phone since it's such high pitched and my phone is a cordless phone which may have interference.
I called up dell care and they said they're sending me a system for system exchange so I'm expecting my new system to arrive in around 7-10 business days. I'm crossing my fingers hoping that the new system will be a lot more stable and better built since they're stabilizing their production line now. -
Your welcome...but dont tell Zetto because it cant be done this easy.
-
Iceman0124 More news from nowhere
When dell ships the replacement, they will put a hold on your CC for the amount of the replacement, that hold will be removed once they get back your original unit, if they dont get it back, that hold will become a charge, all in all its pretty simple and painless, and defiantly beats the alternative of sending yours back, then waiting weeks for the replacement to arrive.
-
Let us know how it goes... i don't know how 'used to' the whine i can get.
-
IwantAquietLaptop Notebook Enthusiast
stabilizing production line eh? Good because mine is supposed to ship 9/13. i will not tolerate any ounce of noise.
-
Get used to it... In the poll Im running, its a 50/50 chance as to whether you get a laptop without the whine.
More disheartenning, there is only a 1 in 5 chance of you receiving a perfect system...
Scary...
Its here:

You are such an a-hole. If you cared to actually read what I was talking about instead of taking it all out of context, maybe I would've had some respect for ya. But as it is, you just behave like a total jerk and ignore any constuctive criticsm. And at the same time you pretend to help others beggin for reps like a little baby, jeez, give me a break already, and get off my case.
-
Since our conversation, I have assisted 3, countem 3 people with whines to get a replacement.
Gonna go on and tell us how wrong we are?
I see why they denied your request. The only whining left is being done by you...even after i tried to help. -
I don't need assistance from a guy who doesn't know jack about what he is talking about. Oh and please, go ahead, continue beggin for reps, 'cause that's the only thing u r good at.
-
Zetto,
I understand your upset. I just went through our initial conversation when you tried and they refused to send you a replacement system for that whine. I dont know why.
Then I followed 3 other posts where you were telling others that I didn't know my #$% from a hole in the ground including Codemonkey where you dared him to try it. I just dont understand, affter what 7-8 replacements have been granted where they keep the system till the new one arrives, why you still insist on going at me.
Im here to help, even sad cases such as yourself...
Beg for reps?? lol... Enjoying the appreciation is all.
Ive been exactly where they all are now.
And who wins in your case??? You, out of your stubborness, are going to keep a system that really bothers you, according to your own writing, just because I bother you. Come on now. -
can't we all just get along!
,
-
well polices may differ depending on your location but according to Dell Canada you are entitled to requesting for an exchange in the system.
This means that they will send you a system for you to compare. You may take parts from the new machine and mix it with your current machine if you want. You just have to make sure that a complete machine is shipped back to them during your return process. This is good because there's no down time for you and they pay all the shipping for you.
Here's what I did
1) Called the 1800 XPS hotline
2) selected 1 for english
3) selected option 2 for "dell customer care"
4) spoke to the rep asking for a system exchange.
Please note that system exchange is only valid up to 30 days from the day your sister arrives at your house. I hope this clears up all confusion. -
sesshomaru Suspended Disbelief!
I haven't read the whole thread through, so i don't know if this has been mentioned before or not.
i can elimininate the whine in my machine by forcing the processor to run at a minimim internal clock of 500 MHz, through NHC. Even 100 MHz does it, but the system seems rather twitchy at that setting.. It lags at times due to no apparent reason.(It shouldn't, seeing as I am limiting the minimum speed, not maximum). 500 MHz seems to be the sweet spot.
On another note, the CPU whine seems to be dying down, even when under no load. -
Can you specify exactly what you did? Because as far as I can tell my 1.5Ghz chip will not clock below 1Ghz whatever I do. It's minimum multiplier seems to be 6x and default 9x, so it would seem mine can not go belove 1Ghz?
Also it's funny you should say that about the sound dying down. I thought I was going crazy, because I am having a harder time hearing it now than I was a few days ago. At the moment I think I can live the sound if it stays where it is or gets quieter. So heres hoping.
For example, right now I am plugged in and can barely hear anything. If I switch the battery I can hear it a little more but not as bad anymore. -
sesshomaru Suspended Disbelief!
Perhaps it's like tinnitus- We get used to it after a while.
.
Seriously, though, I think is has decreased in intensity.
I am using NHC to limit the FSB to 50 MHz, at the minimum. -
anybody having the "dreaded" whine with the dell vostro notebooks?
-
lol, wtf? My CPU whine, or at least the sound purported to be CPU whine is related to the LCD brightness on my 1330. When I set to 100%, it's gone, but anything less produces distinct high-pitched sound emanating from the CPU area... some sort of power convertors?
-
I could answer that if you like...
-
hmm weird... it didn't change much for me. I usually cannot hear the whine when I have my laptop plugged into an AC adapter. It happens when I go into power saving mode with only battery.
I must admit that my whine died down a bit too to a rate where i can be up close and still not hear much of it, but once in a while it gets louder and then I just couldn't help being bothered by it... Maybe I am getting used to it too, I'll have to see what happens.. lets hope eventually it just goes away
