Does anyone have good settings for RMclock for the M1330 (stable undervolting)?
-
My replacement system just went into boxing. Replacement requested 8/17, boxing 8/24. So they can shift these things quick if they have too. Now I will just have to see if QC got any better this time.
I had to speak to a manager, and he said he would "expedite" the order. So maybe that does make a difference.
Sorry for the double post, but I saw a earlier post in this tread asking about replacement systems. -
I am thinking of getting a replacement but I will be moving out of province soon for school. Can they ship to my new address which is located in another province? (I live in Canada)
Are 99% of you who hear the cpu whine in their m1330 getting a replacement? Any extra cost? Seems pretty troublesome to me and I have never done things like this before, but I paid big bucks for it so I guess I have no choice =\ My parents will probably get mad and ask me why I picked Dell instead of going to BestBuy and pick up a cheap laptop there. =( sucks... -

Call Customer Support and explain the prob
Explain you would like a replacement
They will arrange it
It arrives
You decide which is better
Send back one complete system their cost (mailing label emailed 2 u or their dispatched courier) -
thanks flamenko. I got the m1330 2 days ago. how much time do I have before I decide to replace it?
-
In Canada...30 days. Many say its 21 days in the States but I have seen literature that identifies it as 30 days. If you call Customer Support they will tell you; make sure you get them to send yoy an email saying you loved their service...that way you know who said it.
-
-
If they send you a customer satisfaction email, you know who it was that told you the information. That way later, if for some reason they challenge you on it...you have the source.
-
Foget the phone, use the online chat with Customer Care, if they say something, they can't wiggle out of it
-
well... I got my laptop on August 7th and so I'm kinda worried cause August 30th would be considered "30 days" from the date that I have my order arrive. Now I don't know if they count it based on "30 business days" or "30 days including weekends". I just counted 30 days so that would've been my deadline. I'm worried that if later on I'm not satisified I'll have to put up with restocking fees. Do you think that might happen?
PS: My mom just said if I do well first year I wouldn't have to pay anything and she'll fill up the extra so I'm definately aiming at MBP right now if Dell screws up again. -
I had detailed this earlier after speaking at length with the Total Satisfaction people in Dell Canada. They wont charge you restock/shipping fees so long as your return is legit and honest. The only example I am aware of where they had was a delivery refusal.
Further, you only have 30 days for a 'new' replacement and that cant be altered; it has nothing to do with Customer Service. I learned of this as I have had some lengthy conversations on policy with the sole approver for system exchanges for Dell Canada; he is in Edmonton.
After the 30 days, their contract allows them to ship a system refurbished to you. -
-
-
Thats correct. After 30 days Dell will send you a refurb and the CSRs dont control that. Its an automatic process built into their system
-
sigh.. this is really bad... They said my replacement laptop is going to arrive on the 21st, which obviously wasn't correct (as expected)... I'm getting worried... I got my laptop on the 7th this means I only have around 1 week or so left before my "30 days" is up. What if my new replacement has that whine too? Should I just keep complaining until they give me next year's best thing (like Flamenko) or should I go with getting a refund and go for apple instead?
-
The only thing I can say is not to jump ahead of yourself. Wait until this one arrives. If it has the whine call them and the Tech will prob guarantee its brand new (which it may be as this is a brand new line) and keep record of it.
The exchange M1330 for the M1210 was supposed to be a Refurb. In fact, on the status page it listed it as a Refurb. It was not. They laughed when I called stating there are no refurbs for this line yet and wouldn't be for a while. -
More details on the refund and charges procedure.
3:30:07 PM CA SALES Suman 1287 not full refund
3:30:28 PM CA SALES Suman 1287 you have to pay the restocking fee
3:30:43 PM You how much would that be?
3:31:20 PM CA SALES Suman 1287 15% of the amount
3:32:52 PM You ic... but there wouldn't be any deferal of the 30 day limit because of delays caused by dell?
3:33:36 PM CA SALES Suman 1287 no
3:34:06 PM You ok thank you -
Hes wrong and I addressed this issue already, in its own thread, after speaking with Dell Total Satisfaction Team.
You get 100 percent back. If you need then background search "Total Satisfaction" -
But when I spoke with the guy who ordered my replacement he assured me that I could return for a full refund whenever I got my replacement, as long as it was also defective. But I do not trust anyone at Dell very much anymore.
I am dreading calling them and having them say just what the sales rep said to you. Hopefully it will be perfect so I do not have to worry about it. -
so when does the 30day start? The day the laptop arrives at your home delivery depot or the day they start to build your laptop...?
-
I would hope the day you get it, but it could from the day it shipped.
-
It's from the day it shipped.
-
ah!!!!! *my expression is the same as chuck232's avatar right now*
Mine shipped on August 1st!!!!! Sigh... Dell's really pushing my limits... I'm going to email my rep just to have her tell me that I can return it still... I ain't paying 2k for something like this. -
My new system still has the noise, I am in the process of return them both now.
A quick tip, call Technical Support first and explain that you want to return the system, having them create a case number and note the problem and that you want a return. Then forward you to Customer Care, or call them yourself.
I tried calling Customer Care first and they made me call technical support to make sure nothing could be done to fix it. So I had to make two calls.
Also, this new system is making two noises!!! When the system is turned on it makes the same CPU whine as the hold system. BUT when it is in sleep mode or turned off it make another whine! It sounds like it's coming from the battery. Only when it is plugged in but still annoying.
Anyway, I want a refund. I will think about buying a different system later when these CPU whine problems have been addressed in all systems. -
That's not good to hear as I'm about to call dell tomorrow and ask for a replacement... I guess I should hold on now.
-
-
I just finished talking to a tech person. We found that high pitched noise is coming from my harddrive. He told me to take apart the laptop to isolate where the sound is coming from..and from that we found it's from the harddrive...so I'm getting a harddrive replacement....I'll see if a new harddrive will fix this noise problem..
-
-
Hmm, before I call dell I should also isolate the parts too. How do I remove the harddrive?
-
you know the back where there are 4 cylinders symbols? there are 4 screws next to them, unscrew them and take out your harddrive.
-
do you guys only have this whine as the only sound problem on your laptops? In addition to that high pitched noise..I'm getting like grinding/clicking noise when it's in used...I want to know who else has this problem.

Ok the return process was a bit of a pain but overall ok. Here are the steps I think are best if want to return the system.
1. Before calling, get all your info together. The order numbers, and service tags of both systems just incase. Also figure out exactly how much money you should be getting back. I took my total system price with tax, environmental fees, and shipping and subtracted the $216 credit I already had.
2. Call XPS Technical Support. Explain the problem, let them try to fix it over the phone (this might take a while, but I think they need to do it for the record). You can try and just request a refund right away, but they are reluctant to do so with out first troubleshooting the problem. I think it is actually quicker just to let them try and troubleshoot first, even though you know it's pointless.
Just stress that you have been waiting for a usable system for months, and do not want to wait for another exchange. You just want your money back.
Then request a case # and ask them to note in there that your system is defective and you want a full refund.
3. Call XPS Customer Care, or better yet have Tech Support forward you call to them. Then Tech Support can explain what you want and save you time. If you need to give them the case number assigned by technical support. Tell them your new replacement is defective aswell as the first, and you do not have time to wait for another replacement. So you would like a full refund. Confirm with them the amount that will be refunded to you.
4. They will give you a return address, and a UPS tracking number. They schedule a pickup for you, and the UPS guy is meant to bring all the pre-paid labels with him and stick them on when he picks up the box.
------------------
They tried to get me to accept another replacement system. But she also quietly said that if I get another replacement, and it's still defective I would not be able to return for a full refund due to the time. Not sure if that's because it would be my third system, or because it would just be more than 30 days. But after hearing that I wanted a refund ASAP. I woke up early and called Customer Care at 7AM the next day (they were closed the day I called).
Overall they were all very nice people. They make you jump through a few hoops first, but you can tell it's just the procedure they are forced to follow. So I do not mind. In the end I got a full refund and had to spend about a total of 30-40 minutes on the phone. So that is not bad at all really.
I think I am going to take my time and start shopping for a new system again. I mainly want a linux machine, so an AMD system might be on the books. -

Codemonkey thank you....
I explained this process less than a month ago almost word for word and had someone jump all over me saying that I was wrong and "its not done like that in the US". I was actually worried that we were treated different hear and that I misinformed.
Glad you posted this. -

Im gonna be sorry to see you leave the M1330 Owners Community....
I love mine personally...its a rebirth of the computer geek in me. -
-
My M1330 doesnt whine. My M1210 that they replaced it for did. It went through 3 motherboards, 3 hds, 2 dvds, 2 batteries and I still loved that machine.
Even with all the ironing out of initial problems, you cant pry the M1330 from the cold dead hands of most here. -
-
My replacement order was canceled. So i called dell up and they told me that another order was "in process"... meaning that it hadn't even been placed yet so there wasn't an order number. I was told that i should get an order number soon... hopefully that's true.
I'm also considering jumping ship. I'm going to check out my friends brand new MBP, and if i love it more than my m1330, i'm sending this one back, and selling my replacement system as "new"... (which it will be)... i dunno i really like my m1330, but i'm doubting it... kinda like an "iffy" girlfriend. -
Mine doesn't whine and I got mine today. Phew!
Seems they've fixed any problem there was or it was just bad luck if you got it...
I'm with flamenko, loooooove the m1330 -

Guys,
Been following for a while and i need some advice. I ordered my M1330 on 7/7 with an estimated ship date of 8/28. I was just informed today that it has been delayed until 9/5. This really pisses me off bc I called yesturday and asked if it was still on schedule and was told it was. I also wanted the 6-cell & 9-cell option which was not available when i ordered. and also the 4gb ram is also cheaper now. i duno whether I should cancel and reorder or just complain bc waiting 2 months for a laptop is just soooo aggravating. Is it worth waiting for or should I buy a mac or sony instead? Here's my specs:
Black Matte cover
LED backlit screen with camera
2.2GHz T7500/800MhzFSB
Nvidia 128, 8400M
2 GB DDR2-667 RAM
160 GB 7200 rpm HD
4 cell Primary Battery and 9 cell additional Lithium Ion Battery
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium -
I got mine yesterday and it's perfect.
I can't hear any disturbing sounds from it.
The most noticable noise is from the fan and it's not any louder than it has to be.
